LGBT Pride
Haley doesn't know how to handle this. She's new to this. She and
June have been getting close. Really close. They've been on three
dates. They shared several kisses. June always set her heart
ablaze. Things were getting hotter. But…
“What are we?” Haley asked.
“Hm?” June asked. They were leaving another nightclub. Haley still
felt nervous around her. She shifted a bit.
“Well… What exactly are we?” she asked. “We've been on three dates.
I love kissing you.” She shivered a bit. June held her hand. Haley
took a breath.
“Are we dating?” she asked. The other woman smiled.
“Why?” she asked. Haley stared at her.
“Well… I want to know,” she said. June took her by the cheeks.
“That badly?” she asked.
“Yes…” her date said. They were so close. Haley couldn't escape her
gaze. Is she going to kiss me? Her heart fluttered.
June kissed her on the lips. Haley felt like she would melt.
Mmm…
June slowly pulled away.
“Yes,” she said.
“Hm?” Haley said, her head swimming. Her date giggled.
“Yes,” she said again. “We are dating.” Haley thought she was going
to faint.
----------
She had one answer now. But that led to more questions. Was she a
lesbian now? It didn't work like that, did it? Haley had been
married to a man for years. She hadn't been on many dates either.
She hadn't expected to fall for another woman.
Haley felt like screaming. When did it get so hard to focus?
“Ms. Scott?”
Haley jerked her head upward. One of the other younger teachers was
staring at her. She frowned with a concerned look on her face.
Haley sat at her desk, blinking.
“Huh?” She looked up at her colleague.
“Oh…” she said.
“Are you feeling okay?” the other teacher asked. Haley sat there.
She started to ask herself that question lately.
“I don't know,” she said at last. “I don't know.” That was another
thing. Haley taught at a well-respected middle school. Image was
everything. How would they take her dating a woman? Some parents
and teachers were homophobic. They would run her out of a job.
Haley loved being a teacher.
That led back to her earlier question.
What exactly was she now?
----------
Still, Haley had one more issue at hand.
How were her kids going to take the news? She and June had just
started dating. It felt too early to introduce the kids. This
relationship might not work out. What then?
It all made her head hurt. A hand rested on her shoulder. Haley
turned her head. June had a serene look on her face.
“Don't overthink it, baby,” she said in her ear. Something about
those green eyes hypnotized her. Haley lowered her eyes. She
thought of saying something but couldn't think of anything. June
kissed her on the lips. Haley felt like floating away. Just being
with June made her forget.
Haley's problem would have to wait until later—again. Maybe then
she would have an answer. Maybe…
