Chapter 55: The Birth of a
Vampire

"Huh?" Keiji stopped dead in his tracks and
looked a little surprised.
"What is it, Keiji-san?" Treble saw the
expression on the boy's face.
"I thought I heard someone call for help but it
was just in my head." Even though he said it, he could have sworn
that he distinctively heard Tsurugi call for help telepathically.
Keiji didn't know what to do and it made him wonder if Tsurugi was
alright. It very well could have been a call for help.
"I think that was a telepathic message from
Tsurugi. I caught it too but only faintly," Treble replied. Keiji
was glad that he wasn't the only one.
"Then we should head there. How do I ask him
for directions?" Keiji wasn't telepathic, nor was he keen on how to
be telepathic. The only thing that he thought was if the link
between them was still active that he could attempt to communicate
with the angel and find out his whereabouts.
"I'll ask him if I can get a good wavelength to
communicate. Leave it to me," Treble decided that it would have
been easier for him to open the link, rather than have Keiji try,
since he knew telepathy very well. The drummer nodded as the white
dog-man tried to communicate with the blonde angel.
'Tsurugi, if you get this, where are you
located at? What's the status of the situation?'
The dog-lord hoped that his message got through
and after only a few moments, he soon received his
answer.
'There's a big wooden cross where we are.
You can't miss it. Please, if you can then hurry. Hiro-kun is
really bad!' The angel's voice
pleaded within the confines of his head.
'I'm fine. Ignore it. We'll be there in a
few minutes.' Hiroshima's voice cut
in.
'Hiro-kun?'
Then, everything on their telepathic hotline
when dead as Hiroshima sat up in his lover's lap. His form still
shook with weakness and blood loss and his breath was ragged. His
eyes seemed as if they had trouble focusing and the angel was still
broken out in a heavy sweat.
'Are you sure?' Treble asked after a few more moments of
silence.
Hiroshima stood unsteadily. 'Yes, I'm positive.'
"Well, that's odd," he commented aloud as he
put a furry, clawed hand to his chin and looked perplexed. Why
would Tsurugi say one thing and Hiroshima say something so
completely different?
"What is?" Keiji looked to Treble in question.
What was going on?
"They wanted us to come there but they seem to
have changed their minds."
"What? Why?" That did seem odd, even to Keiji.
He knew that they weren't always the most organized when it came to
being on the same frequency as far as thoughts came but that was
strange.
"They are coming here," Treble told
him.
"What?" As soon as his question escaped his
lips, Azmy ran into view and stopped in front of the two males, out
of breath and tired from running. The girl didn't even bother to
take any breaks on her way to them. She was too afraid of the
ominous feeling that she had to even consider it and Azmy knew that
there was no time to waste. The situation was dire and the angels
needed her help.
"I ran here as fast as I could! Hiroshima...and
Tsurugi are..." The girl stopped in order to catch up on a few
breaths.
"It's alright, they are fine now," Treble
chided. She shouldn't overwork herself, especially if she was
already tired. Azmy simply needed to rest for at least a few
minutes before she explained the rest of her sentence to
them.
"How do you know-" Azmy asked, but was cut off
by Treble. He told her that he spoke to them telepathically. Keiji
then walked up to her with a grave expression and asked her to
inform them on what had happened. There was no doubt in his mind
now that it was Tsurugi who had so desperately tried to reach him
and maybe there was even a reason that he wasn't able to talk to
them now.
"After Hiroshima got out of that tunnel through
a hole in the ceiling, we saw a giant wooden cross being raised so
we ran over to see what it was. It was a crucifixion and Tsurugi
was nailed to it. Hiroshima told me to come here and get help while
he fought the vampires but I guess that he defeated them all." The
gun slinger explained.
"We should still go to them. Lord Bass, Helix
and Mikunai are dealing with Baratone so we'll have a break. We
have to get to Vasca-sama and we're so close. We can't possibly
leave them behind," Zuri commented.
"What? You found Baratone?" Azmy looked
wide-eyed at her statement. She couldn't believe that everyone had
already found him.
Undine blasted an offending soldier out of her
way before she replied. "More like he showed up. It was
unexpected," the slate-haired girl explained.
"I say we leave them for now and get to the
angels," Fife told them. They could still reach Vasca but if their
team mates were dying or critically injured out there then they
were top priority.
"They said that they were coming to us," Keiji
noted.
The prince smiled. "We can always meet them
half-way, can't we?"

Tsurugi remained by Hiroshima's side and
watched as his lover barely managed to stand. His body was hunched
over and his head hung listlessly. The blonde arose and placed his
hands on either one of his mate's shoulders. "Hiro-kun, we really
shouldn't move. You'll only get the infection in your system
faster," he warned. Tsurugi could see that the infection was
spreading quickly enough and he really didn't want things to get
worse, especially if there was a chance that it could be reversed
as it was.
"I'm already turning into a vampire. Why
prolong it? I can barely concentrate on what's going on around me.
If no fights spring up then I can get there with no problem," the
angel's voice sounded pained, almost more so then Tsurugi had ever
heard during the course of knowing him. Suddenly, the vampuric
angel felt himself being lifted. His gaze shot to his mate as she
asked him what he was doing.
"I'll fly us there," Tsurugi
replied.
"You're hurt and you only have one wing,"
Hiroshima advised against it.
"I'm using wind magic to keep balance. Come
on," the blonde didn't want Hiroshima to worry any more then he
already did. If he wanted to get to the others, which, to be honest
was the correct way to go about the situation before they ran into
any more troubles, then he would carry the both of them there.
Besides, his wind magic took some of the burden off of his wounded
hands, not that Hiroshima was really all that heavy. Without his
wings, the angel only weighed about 120 pounds and that was really
no burden on him if about 100 pounds of that weight was supported
by the wind magic.
"Can I borrow something to keep around my
neck?" Hiroshima was then handed an olive green scarf. "Where did
you get that?" He looked to Tsurugi in question.
"A dead vampire," the blonde smiled sweetly at
his mate. "It's very cold here so I borrowed it."
Hiroshima tied the scarf tightly around his
neck, in order to hide the six bite marks on both sides of his
neck. He didn't want anyone to be distracted from doing what they
needed to do by caring about him or his situation. The legend would
simply try to bear it on his own. He thanked Tsurugi as the two
headed back towards their team mates.

"Time for me to make my exit! Magic Buster!"
Baratone threw both of his arms out to either side as the plain
around them was illuminated in a blinding white light.
"What the bloody hell?" Bass was caught off
guard by such a large attack and hadn't thought that he'd use an
attack like that against them at such a close range.
"Shit!" Mikunai grabbed Helix as the whole area
exploded and Bass was thrown one way and the two male vampires were
thrown the other way. Mikunai shoved Helix beneath him as he left
himself exposed to the attack. For a matter of ten to twenty
minutes, the area was lit up in white light.
"Master..." Helix looked surprised by the
usually psychotic vampire's protective actions.
"I protect what is mine," Mikunai replied in a
voice that seemed to promise the statement rather than simply state
it.
"M-Mikunai-sama..." The Catholic man was
flattered by his show of kindness. Mikunai usually tried to show
how unpredictable and bloodthirsty he could be, so anyone who
received a kind gesture or comment would know that he felt close to
them and trusted them enough to reveal his inner most feelings
to.
"Drop the formalities, babe," Mikunai smiled
kindly at the white-haired man who lay below him on the
ground.
"They don't know we're lovers. Isn't it
forbidden for vampires to love their bait?" He asked.
"Vampires are protective of our feeding
sources," Mikunai placed a hand to the side of the man's face and
looked into his blue eyes. "We don't kill you, in fact, we're very
protective of you and we are territorial of those we have full
ownership of. Most vampires don't play with you or have sex with
you. You are food and far from a lover."
Helix looked down and seemed a little
disappointed. It seemed that their relationship was the same as any
other, no matter what he thought of it. "I see..." His voice was
low and saddened.
"However...We are also very lonely creatures,"
Helix could feel long, slender arms caress him and hold him close.
"It's hard to be lonely and I can't be lonely like all of the other
vampires. It's too hard and you've stuck with me all of this time.
I feel so close to you." Mikunai's voice was unusually soft and
kind.
"I feel close to you as well. I care about you
a lot, Mikunai," Helix hugged him back as Bass crawled out of the
rubble a good fifty feet away from them.
Rocks and debris fell to the ground as the
Winged Canine stumbled to his feet. "Damn, that blood wanker is
gone," he cursed to himself as he glanced around at the barren and
naked battle field. "He's destroyed a good hindered feet around
himself...or shall I say, where he was. I wonder where Mikunai and
Helix are."
"My boy...I think I like you far more than just
a donor," the vampire confessed.
The blue eyed man placed a hand atop of the one
that sat on the side of his face and looked to his master and loved
with a kind expression in his eyes. "I've always loved you but I
could never tell you because of our contract."
"Our contract says that you do what I say,
babe," Mikunai pulled his head back and looked into Helix's eyes as
long, white, straight hair cascaded down around his
face.
"Yes, I'm aware of that," Helix
smiled.
"So, I'll tell you to kiss me." That sentence
was so carefree and it seemed as if all that existed at that moment
were the two of them.
The other male blushed slightly. "But it's such
an informal time-" He tried to protest but his protests were cut
short by the other male's lips caressing his in a gentle embrace.
Helix then tangled his hand in the long tresses of Mikunai's hair
as the two shared a passionate kiss. The kiss lasted a good five
minutes before a familiar British accent was heard.
"I say, there you are gents. Are you alright?"
Bass asked the two men, who pulled away from their kiss and looked
at him in unison.
"He's so British," Mikunai
responded.
"Yes, we're fine," Helix actually answered the
dog man's question.
"Baratone got away," Bass replied.
"What a coward," Mikunai had actually just
noticed but he didn't want to quite admit that.
"Where's everyone else?" Helix
asked.
"I'm not sure. They were fighting the Holy Army
but I don't know where they scurried off to," Bass commented as his
keen eyes searched around but found no sight of any of their allies
or even members of the Holy Army for that fact.
"Let's find them," a determined look crossed
Helix's face.
XxXxXx
"They're in this direction?" Keiji asked as
Azmy replied in affirmative and pointed to the large cross, telling
them that they had found the exact same cross that she saw. Undine
saw what seemed to be two people flying over the hill and asked who
they were. Fife replied that it was them and they seemed to be
flying.
From their position, Tsurugi told his mate that
he'd caught sight of their group and Hiroshima looked down in
silence. He'd taken some major blows to his pride and didn't feel
as if he could look at them with the pride that he had
before.
"Damn, I'm not prepared for this," Hiroshima
remarked in a tired voice.
"What should be do?" Heavenly blue eyes looked
down at the green-haired angel below him.
"Let me down."
"But Hiro-kun, your condition," Tsurugi advised
against it.
"Who cares, just do it!" The spiky-haired angel
snapped in a vicious tone and his mate complied by gently setting
him down. He tried to put his arm around the angry legend but
Hiroshima turned with his back towards him. This surprised the
blonde and he didn't understand why Hiroshima was turning him away.
Was he truly that mad, or was it merely pain?
"Don't help me. If they see that I'm hurt it
will only delay us from reaching Vasca. I don't want to be a
hindrance to the team." So that was the reason that Hiroshima
didn't want his help. That was a relief. He hated it when Hiroshima
was angry with him.
"As you wish, love. Just try to walk straight,"
Tsurugi teased.
"You insensitive bastard," the legend grumbled
as Keiji ran up to the two of them and asked what happened in an
urgent tone. Tsurugi explained that they just got into a little
trouble and told them that he was sorry for worrying
them.
"Nice scarf," Chichiri pointed out the fact
that Hiroshima hadn't worn one until this moment in
time.
"It was cold so I stole it from a rouge
vampire. They won't need it," Hiroshima hid the pain in his voice
with his usual calm tone.
"Where were you all?" The blonde angel
asked.
"Funny story actually, we ran into Baratone but
Mikunai-" Zephynthos' explanation was cut off by Mikunai's
voice.
"Yes?" The long-haired vampire peered over his
shoulder and smiled impishly as Zephynthos whirled around, nearly
causing the two to kiss.
"Good God's sake! Don't do that to me!" He
shouted in shock and irritation.
"I was fixing to shoot you," Constantine placed
her gun back into her holster on her belt.
"Well, you know I'm crazy like that," Mikunai
explained, as if it was a good enough answer to cover his
ass.
"...and you were going to be dead like that,"
Ko replied.
"As I was saying, Mikunai, Helix and Lord Bass
were fighting him but I guess he got away because they are back,"
the black-haired vampire finished.
"Sorry, he blasted us and made an escape," Bass
reported, a little disappointed that he couldn't give them any good
news.
"I smell fresh blood," Mikunai commented as he
cast a glance to Hiroshima. The legend felt a little intimidated by
this and felt as if he needed to get defensive. He tensed up and
narrowed his eyes. He was about to speak until Tsurugi piped up and
covered for him.
"It's probably mine. I got hit with a cannon
but I'm fine. They only got my wing. I'll heal in three days," the
blonde angel told them, trying to dismiss the subject.
"You remind me of a horror movie," Chichiri
looked at the blood splattered angel. There was a large amount of
blood on his face, hands, entire side and feet. The bones of his
wing protruded from his back and his clothes were ripped on one
side.
"You look terrible," Keiji told Hiroshima, who
also didn't look too far from Tsurugi. The legend was paler than
usual, broken into a sweat, visually trembling and looked very
sickly.
"Yeah, I almost look as bad as you," Hiroshima
cracked a smile and Keiji frowned.
"Now it's the time for that."
"Damn, my neck is killing me and I'm dizzy,"
Hiroshima placed a hand to his neck as he swayed a
little.
"Why does your neck hurt?" Chichiri asked
overdramatically before he gasped. "Don't tell me you were
bitten!"
"I fell off of that big ass cross. I'm entitled
to hurt," the legend shot back.
"Why would you fall off of a cross?" Especially
if he had wings and four of them at that.
"I didn't do it on purpose. I was disabled from
flying. It knocked my equilibrium off. That's why I can't walk
straight," Hiroshima only half-way lied. It was part of the reason
that he couldn't walk straight. From a few feet away, Helix
straightened his glasses as he peered at the spiky-haired man's
neck. At the top of the olive green scarf, part of it had been
pushed out due to the contact of his hand and he could see two
vampuric fang marks. He tugged on his lover's shoulder and called
his name quietly to get his attention.
"What?" Mikunai asked and turned to him in
question.
"Look at Hiroshima's neck."
"Hm?" Mikunai seemed a little confused but he
looked in the direction Helix had told him and straightened his
shades to make sure that he wasn't just seeing things. "He's been
infected."
"I wonder if he's aware of it."
"I'm not sure. When you're fighting multiple
vampires, you aren't always aware of those who bite you," the
white-haired vampire replied.
"Will this hinder us?" Helix asked.
"Maybe slightly but you have to give the guy
credit, he's pretty calm about it. Although I'm surprised that he
can stand like that. Most newly infected are on the ground in
convulsions at things like this. His body is converting so the pain
is excruciating. I wonder if he has fangs yet," Mikunai
informed.
"Since we're all together, we can continue on
to Vasca's, right?" Ko asked.
"Then let's go," Hiroshima began to shakily
walk ahead of everyone. Mikunai's comments were true, Hiroshima was
in so much pain that it nearly blinded him, but above all else, he
would have no one worry about him. He wasn't about to be the reason
that they paused in their search, nor did he want anything bad to
happen at the castle just because they couldn't get there in time.
He owed Vasca a great deal and he didn't know what he'd do if
something happened to his dear friend.
'Hiro-kun, please be careful. I'm worried
about you.' Tsurugi watched his love
try to keep his footing. Soon, everyone else began walking.
Hiroshima's place went from first to last as the group continued to
walk. The legend was panting heavily and Mikunai found a moment to
try and peer into his mouth. He moved his head around Hiroshima's
face closely and looked as if he was concentrating very hard to try
to see if the man had any fangs or not.
"What the hell are you doing?" Hiroshima asked
with a confused and irritated look on his face. Of all times, he
really didn't feel like being stared down like a piece of meat.
Especially by a vampire of all creatures.
"Are you tired?" Mikunai asked.
"What does my mouth have to do with
that?"
"I couldn't help but notice that," Mikunai
hooked his index finger on the top of his scarf and pulled it down,
revealing the many bite wounds that the angel had obtained. Many of
them still oozed with blood. Hiroshima stopped dead in his tracks
and a small gasp escaped his lips as his eyes widened slightly. He
had been found out. He knew that Mikunai was skeptical of him
earlier but now he was exposed. It was a good thing that he was so
far behind everyone so that they couldn't look. He just hoped that
Mikunai wouldn't have an outburst about it. "You've been
infected...Oh my, this is worse than usual. There has to be at
least six bite wounds here." The vampire examined his neck closely
before Hiroshima smacked his hand away.
"Mind your own business," the legend warned
defensively.
"I'm amazed that you can even stand," Mikunai
replied.
"It takes a lot more willpower then you think
it does," Hiroshima told him.
"How do you feel?"
"Like someone took a mallet and smashed all of
my insides."
"You're an admirable man for taking all of this
pain without a word," Mikunai had never came across anyone who
could get infected and not even utter a word but somehow, this
angel was able to take a striking amount of pain.
"Don't tell them. I don't want to slow anyone
down more than I've already have." It was bad enough that they
wasted time looking for them and worrying when he and Azmy fell
underground. He didn't want them to worry about his condition when
he would change quickly. There was no use stopping for that reason
alone and putting an even further hiatus on their
objective.
"If you really think that's wise," Mikunai had
a totally different opinion of the situation but if Hiroshima
wanted it kept quiet then he wouldn't say anything
either.
"I do. So don't say anything,
vampire."
"You know, this isn't the worst pain, right?"
Mikunai asked. The worst pain of conversion took place when the
transformation hit its peak. Soon, the legend would be unable to
walk and it was only a matter of time before he fell to the ground
and was exposed to everyone.
Hiroshima then clutched his chest and hunched
over. "Thanks for vexing me you bastard," he replied in agony as
his knees bent slightly and his body began to act as if it were
going into seizures. He stood there for a while, trying to fight
off the massive pains in his chest and body but it was no good. The
searing pain of his joints and stabbing, burning sensation in his
chest caused his heart of beat at a faster rate and his blood
pressure to rise. Soon, he became incapacitated as fell to the
ground.
Everyone heard a loud thump from behind them.
They turned around to see Hiroshima on the ground, spasming and
they called out his name in exclamation and ran to his side with
worried expressions. Ko kneeled by one side and asked what was
wrong with him.
"What happened?" Azmy kneeled beside of Ko and
looked as if she was about to cry. "Please, are you going to be
alright?"
Keiji knelt by his face. "Hey, snap out of it,"
he then placed a hand on the side of his sweat-soaked face. "He's
incredibly hot and he's covered in sweat. He's also convulsing and
trembling...What's wrong with him?" He asked as he looked to the
vampires. Maybe they could tell him something, since Sumeria was
their land.
The vampires said nothing and Mikunai looked
away as the legend wildly clutched at his chest, nearly ripping his
button up shirt and writhing with extreme pain below them. Everyone
once in a while he tossed his head and released a yell or a pained
noise.
There was only one other person he was with
before he was like this: Tsurugi.
Keiji looked to the blonde angel with a dire
expression. "Alright Tsurugi, what happened to him?"
...To Be Continued...
