Chapter 79: Angelic Triple
Threat
By: Melissa Norvell
XxXxXx
Three angels emerged from the golden light.
Each was very regal looking and worn many robes and sashes. Their
wings were white as snow, a sign of their purity and they were of
the highest rank, the elite archangels and reigning over their
element. Ten Sao Tami smiled in delight as he spoke to the group
with joy and anticipation in his eyes.
"I'd like to introduce you to my friends-
Nataniel, Ra-shiel, and Zadkiel (1)."
"What?" Tsurugi's eyes widened upon hearing the
names of the mentioned angels. Did that man just say what he
thought he had? If so, then they were in far more trouble than he
could begin to realize.
"These are the angels that I've taken powers
from," Ten Sao Tami gestured to the holy beings. "They are under my
control. I do think that it's very unfair that there are so many of
you and only one of me, so I decided to make things
even."
"What names did you just say?" The blonde angel
asked in a shocked whisper.
"Why are their names so important?" Ko
questioned. It had been the one thing that Tsurugi seemed in shock
about. She didn't get what the big deal was, unless they were
someone important or something.
"These angels are legendary," Hiroshima
informed her on the importance of these beings. "They are some of
the oldest angels in creation and they have been reincarnated many
times. They are the reigning angels of creation. Ra'shiel of the
whirlwind, Nataniel of the raging flame and Zadkiel of
Jupiter."
"Jupiter?" Ko was baffled by that one. "You
mean, like the planet?"
"Yes, he's the reigning angels of Jupiter. They
are all white-winged angels from heaven." Beings, the Hiroshima
himself never thought that he would see. They were the pristine and
just, but now they were being forced to submit to Ten Sao Tami,
under his cruel blow. In many ways, the spiky-haired man felt sorry
for them, for he knew the pains of an angel all too
well.
"We have to fight them?" Chichiri
asked in a panic as he pointed to the angels with a freaked out
look on his face. He knew the inevitability of the answer at hand
but if there was a small chance they could avoid it, he would
rather take that option.
"Those angels are far stronger then we are,"
Tsurugi informed, further putting dread into the other blonde on
their team.
"What about Hiroshima?" Zangetsu noted who the
strongest member on their team had been. He wanted to know how the
legend compared to those angels, or vice versa.
"Even if I was well and my powers were
unrestrained, they still out power me. These are angels of my
father's status," the green-haired angel noted.
"You're father was a legendary angel?" Fife
asked, although he had known exactly what Hiroshima was talking
about. He had figured him out in Hikari Country but this was his
small way of trying to get the angel to reveal himself to the
group. If he couldn't hold secrets- the Hiroshima shouldn't be able
to either.
"Yes."
"So, what are you?" Keiji turned to him. The
green-haired boy had fully gotten Fife's intent and he found
himself wanting to know who exactly Hiroshima's father was as
well.
"I'm just a dark angel," Hiroshima wanted
everyone to stay on task. He would tell them all they needed to
know later. Right now was a bad time.
"Liar, no dark angel has both black and white
wings."
"I'll tell you, just not now," Hiroshima
replied.
Green eyes glared him down, almost in a
threatening way. "I'll hold you to your word." The boy's words
seemed to be a promise or threat of some sort. Whichever it was,
Hiroshima was unsure of.
"My word is good," ice blue eyes leveled the
green ones with a promise that he would not break. It was fate that
they all know who he was and why they were going on these seemingly
pointless missions to gather the magical items of Zamlen and stop
Soel.
"What should we do?" Zangetsu glanced towards
them. The situation was looking more and more grim by the second.
He wanted to save the people of Shaffon and free them of their
prejudice and hate of angels.
When he thought about it, this was Vespa's
plan. She had sent them here to help and by sending the very thing
that the people of Shaffon hated to help them, then perhaps they
would see that not all angels were bad. The Red Witches' ideal was
for them to save Shaffon from themselves.
"Well…" Keiji looked as if he were
struggling to think of any semblance of a plan. Things were looking
grim and with the arrival of these new angels, things could only be
worse. Not to mention, Ten Sao Tami knew that Time Freeze attack
and Hiroshima was down and out of commission.
"We don't have a choice. We'll each take one
angel in a team. There will be two teams of two and one team of
three. Since I'm weak, I'll be in the team of three," Hiroshima
laid a hand gently on the boy's shoulder to calm his troubled
spirit.
"I'll team up with Chichiri," Tsurugi was the
first to volunteer his services.
"What? Can I trade partners?" Chichiri asked.
Tsurugi was a good fighter but he really wanted to team up with Ko.
Besides, that meant that he was Ko's partner and
no telling what he
would do.
The dark angel crossed his arms and glanced
over to the blonde a little darkly. "Do you have a problem with
me?" His voice was smooth and cold towards the matter. He had been
kind enough to offer his services and now he was being shunned
because of Chichiri's love interest?
"Well…um…" At that precise moment,
Chichiri had realized how that made him sound.
"Alright, then I'll be with Ko," Tsurugi
figured that would shut him up for a while and show him how
childish he was being if he dared to speak up.
"What? I have to be with Zangetsu?" Chichiri
wasn't happy about that at all.
"Stop arguing about childish things. You and
Zangetsu do well to spend some time together," Tsurugi told him
with a look of disappointment. This was not to decide who you got
along with better, this was to work under any condition, and even
with those you hate and put aside your feelings to work towards a
common goal.
"So, I'm with you, Tsurugi?" Ko was confused at
who her partner was. Tsurugi had switched around so much she wanted
to make sure she had the right partner.
"Yes."
"So, it's just you, me and Fife," Keiji looked
to the legend for confirmation.
"If you weren't well, I'd seem like a hog. Our
team would be the strongest one," Fife noted with his usual calm
smile.
"What?" The green-haired boy asked.
"As far as fighting does, we have more
experience combined than anyone else," the vampire
noted.
"That's not true," Hiroshima countered tiredly.
"Tsurugi and Ko have more combined experience then we do, simply
because of the fact that Tsurugi has lived so long."
"Hiroshima, stay back and let Fife and I handle
things. You're too weak to take them on," Keiji instructed. As it
was, Hiroshima was their weakest link and he could not afford to
have him killed off. Whatever plans were still in effect from
Vespa's side, required that he live and he wasn't about to let her
down.
"But I'm the only one who really knows about
them. I'd feel like a bad team mate if I stayed behind," the
spiky-haired angel's voice held a great deal of concern for the
well-being of his team mates as two fireballs sped towards
them.
Hiroshima saw the orange light bathe their
forms as his ice blue eyes widened. "Look out!" He tackled Keiji to
the ground, just in time as the balls of fire sped past them in a
blazing glory.
"Ugh…" Keiji winced as he could smell
blood heavily on the other's form and opened one eye to see
Hiroshima above him. He thanked the angel for saving his
life.
"You're welcome, Keiji…I'm glad that you
didn't get tortured." It was hard for Hiroshima to admit his true
feelings and how much he secretly cared for his team mates but he
knew in the end, it would be worth it.
"Hiroshima…" Keiji's eyes widened at the
kind words that poured from the angel's lips. "Why are you saying
this now?"
Before his question could get answered,
Hiroshima arose and pulled out the Crimson Blade. He summoned his
Dragon Blade attack as multiple crescent shaped waved of energy
bombarded the fire angel's form.
Nataniel was quick and nimble in the air,
unlike any angel the humans had seen so far. He was the ancient and
elite, and it showed as he effortlessly dodged one wave after
another as if it were mere child's play.
Hiroshima steadied himself as the angel closed
in on him.
Keiji jumped up as he watched helplessly at the
two angels. His mind scrambled for a plan but only racing thoughts
came.
"How the hell can a physical fighter like me
defeat something like that?" The boy asked in dismay, completely at
a loss in what to do.
"You never questioned yourself before," Fife
mentioned. He could tell that Keiji was definitely feeling the
pressure.
"I actually doubt we'll win this one," Keiji
said in defeat.
"How dark of you to say."
The fire angel stopped in mid flight as he drew
fire to his hand and formed it into the shape of a bow and arrow.
He summoned a flame arrow and fired it at Hiroshima. Fife quickly
got in front of his battered team mate and wrote out his Pierce
spell as a stream of symbols shot through the air and destroyed the
fiery arrow.
"It will be no simple task to defeat me,"
Nataniel said in an emotionless voice as he stared down the
green-haired angel with blank, red eyes.
"I am aware of that," Hiroshima
replied.
"You are an Earth-bound angel and you're well
informed about this world, but you know nothing of heaven or hell,"
Nataniel's words were distant and cold, and meant to strike the
green-haired angel's heart.
They held a significant amount of truth;
however, Hiroshima had never known heaven or hell and had lived on
the mortal plain all of his life, walking among the
humans.
"You're being controlled by Ten Sao Tami. You
don't even know what you're saying." Despite his words, Hiroshima
knew this was the truth. They existed in two completely different
worlds.
"All sinners must die. Fire Wall!" The
red-haired angel called out as he raised one of his powerful and
jewelry littered arms into their air as he summoned a great wall of
fire so thick that no one could see through the flames.
"Barrier!" Fife called out as he shielded
everyone in the area from being burnt by the flames. "Nataniel may
be stronger and smarter than us, but there has to be a way to
defeat him."
XxXx
"Burst Winds!" Ra'shiel threw his hands in
front of him as powerful winds shot from his grasp and shot towards
Tsurugi and Ko.
Tsurugi crossed his hands above his head, then
brought them to either side as he summoned a giant, white
lightening strike that clashed against the winds and both angels
were knocked backwards by the attacks.
As Ra'shiel flew back from the force of the
colliding attacks, Ko found her opening and decided to take it. The
ninja ran in and attempted to kick him and send him back further.
The gray-haired angel held out his hand and summoned burst winds,
which sent the white-haired girl backwards as if she were merely a
fly in his face.
The girl screamed as her form was propelled
backwards. She was soon caught be elegant hands as she glanced over
her shoulder to see Tsurugi. Ko thanked him and he told her that it
was not a problem as he smiled placidly, happy that she seemed to
be alright.
"There are different types of angels, right?"
Ko asked with a serious expression.
"Yes, there are," Tsurugi wondered what the
girl's train of thought was, or if she was trying to come up with a
possible weakness.
"What kind of angel are you?"
"I am a Rainstorm Angel," the blonde angel
informed his team mate.
"What is Hiroshima?"
"He's…" The dark angel tried to say but
thought about it for a while. "Well, I'm not sure to be honest,"
the puzzled look on his face was more than genuine. When he thought
about it, Hiroshima didn't fit into any angelic category that he
knew of. "He was born of a light and dark angel, a Sun Angel and an
angel of Light, so I'm not sure what type of angel he technically
is. I don't even think that he knows."
"He doesn't know who he is?" Ko was confused.
Hiroshima was a very confident individual but when she thought
about it, he really didn't seem to know much about himself, or he
acted as if he knew and that it was some kind of secret that only
he knew. The white-haired girl wondered if it truly was a secret or
if he just didn't know.
"I think that's why he wanted to carry on this
mission with us. I also think that a few others have the same
problem," Tsurugi noted.
"You mean like King Fife?"
"Yes…Actually, I think that he's not the
only one."
"We have no time for talking," Ra'shiel grew
impatient as he charged at the two beings. Tsurugi grabbed Ko and
quickly evaded him. The Whirlwind Angel turned swiftly and flung
his hand out as small disks of wind raced towards them. "Wind
Blades!"
"Dodge!" Tsurugi instructed as he and Ko jumped
out of the way of several discs, the side of paper plates. The
discs hit the ground and chewed up the earth below them, leaving
short but deep scars on the ground.
"How in the hell do we beat him? We can't even
get to Ten Sao Tami because all of the angels are defending him."
Ko told her team mate.
"He's already fled," heavenly blue eyes
narrowed as a serious look crossed his face.
"Are you serious?" He had to be kidding her!
Then again…The whole situation made sense…While they
were fighting the legendary angels; he would make his get away with
the feather.
"Look out!" Tsurugi called out as the two of
them jumped away from the discs again. There was no doubt that
Ra'shiel and the other angels were simply toying with them. The
only question was, why didn't they just kill them off?
Was there a part of them that fought against
Ten Sao Tami's possession?
XxXx
"Meteor Shower!" Zadkiel called out as many
flaming rocking fell from the sky- a wide spread attack that, not
only his adversaries would have to dodge, but everyone in the area-
angels and human's included. Zangetsu and Chichiri scrambled around
as they tried to dodge the fire storm that fell from the
sky.
"Gah!" Chichiri barely managed to move out of
the way as a meteor smashed into the ground close by. The impact of
the rock sent the blonde flying forward as he did a belly flop on
the hard ground.
"Celestial Beam!" Zadkiel then pointed his
finger as a white, lazar-like beam shot from his finger and headed
straight towards the two males below. Zangetsu quickly grabbed
Chichiri and jumped out of the way as the beam hit ground and blew
up the dirt. as it lit up the sky.
"Do you have any ideas of how to defeat
Zadkiel?" The black-haired ninja asked his team mate.
"I'd love to know how anyone can
defeat these guys," Chichiri replied as the two of them landed on
the ground.
"Comet!" The heard the deep voiced angel call
out as he summoned yet another attack. The black-haired angel threw
his hands in front of him as a medium-sized comet fell from the sky
and headed towards them.
The two males barely made it out of the way as
the object collided with the ground. They were going to run low on
energy if they didn't figure something out fast. Zadkiel was
relentless with attacking them.
"Shit! That was scary!" Chichiri whined. He
nearly thought he saw his life flash before his eyes.
"Yes, these guys are way stronger then
Hiroshima. None of our attacks can even faze them, so we're reduced
to dodging," Zangetsu didn't want to be reduced to running and
evading but there was no way anything they would do would even dent
their powers.
Hiroshima was a young angel in his own right,
being only twenty-two out of the 300 years that he possibly could
live but even Tsurugi who was 127, could not compare to any of
these angels. They were the ultimate hierarchy, more powerful then
archangels and more like Gods than anything else.
How exactly do you defeat three
gods?
"We'll run out of energy if we keep doing
this," Chichiri stated. They wasted more energy running and dodging
than anything else, and given that factor, they would not have any
energy left when and if they decided that they could attack
back.
"I can't think of anything else to do,"
Zangetsu looked torn on what to even think at the moment. He, like
Keiji, was trying to think of a plan but nothing came to his
mind.
"You usually have all of the good ideas,"
Chichiri told him in a condescending voice.
"Would you stop acting like that?" The
black-haired ninja did all he could to keep from fighting Chichiri
instead of Zadkiel. He was really beginning to irritate him with
whatever vendetta he had against him. To be truthful, he didn't
even know why Chichiri was so pissy with him in the first
place.
"Don't tell me what to do," the blonde
snapped.
"I wouldn't dream of it," Zangetsu
shoved the other man away and moved himself to another part of the
battlefield. Right now, it was all he could do to think of a plan
to defeat these angels, and he didn't need Chichiri's
input.
"Hey! What are you doing?" The blonde shouted
after the ninja.
"If you don't need my help, then find a
different way to defeat Zadkiel yourself."
"Team mates don't abandon each other," Chichiri
argued.
"I don't need any unnecessary
stress."
"Um…We always have stress. Don't
act like you're so frail," the blonde seethed. There was nothing
that angered him more then someone else acting like they some
little weakling who couldn't handle some stress.
"I'm not-" Zangetsu turned to say something
else but they were interrupted by a beam that shot between them,
ending their quarrel. Chichiri let out a yell as Zangetsu looked
thoughtful on the situation.
"How do you beat someone that knows your moved
before you make them?" The ninja asked.
"What?" Chichiri questioned.
"Nataniel, Zadkiel and Ra'shiel are all angels.
Angels can read human's minds," the black-haired man noted. No
matter what they did, they knew the outcome and could counter them
in any way imaginable.
"Raging Storm!" Zadkiel sent another attack at
the two of them as he swept his hand across the ground. The ground
violently split between the two men as sand flew up in a storm-like
manner and beat against their skin.
XxXx
Hiroshima and Nataniel's forms were knocked
back as the angel's fire and the Crimson Blade struck against each
other with great force. Nataniel flew back and stopped himself, his
feet never touched the ground. Hiroshima dug his heels into the
ground and had to keep from stumbling over himself and
falling.
The green-haired angel held his sword out and
tried to catch his breath as the fire angel looked down on
him.
"How are you still fighting? You shouldn't even
be technically standing. You're holding yourself together with
sheer magic alone," Nataniel moved his long, blood red bangs from
his face.
Hiroshima was a pitiful creature, beaten beyond
measure and stubborn beyond compare. The angel would fight until he
could no more for the sake of the humans he traveled with. Nataniel
had not seen a guardian angel with that kind of devotion in a
while. Part of him thought Hiroshima was weak for it, but another
found him to quite loyal.
Either way, he would plow through the
spiky-haired angel without fail, for this is what he was forced to
do. He had no desire to hurt the humans or their angelic companions
but his body moved on its own. As much as he wanted to believe that
these people could help him, it was hard when the three of them
could decimate them so easily.
Ra'shiel, Zadkiel and himself were nothing more
than pawns to Ten Sao Tami and the very thought saddened him a
great deal.
"That doesn't matter!" Hiroshima charged at the
angel, ready to make another strike on him, although he knew what
would happen. He would be knocked back as if he were nothing, for
this was his fate-
But things didn't quite happen that
way.
A large fireball flew over his shoulder and hit
the red-haired angel in the stomach and nearly engulfed his form as
it sent him sailing backwards. The legend stopped in mid-charge and
turned around as a surprised look crossed his face.
"What?" The angel asked as he looked back at
his two team mates, who also wore looks of confusion.
"It wasn't me," Fife told him with a
shrug.
"Well, I don't know magic," Keiji
reasoned.
"Vespa!" Hiroshima saw the witch standing there
with her staff and a placid smile on her face. After all of this
time, she finally came to aid them out in battle.
"I thought I would come and help you out. You
seem like you need it," the woman replied in the same calm demeanor
she had always spoken to them in.
"What are you going to do?" Keiji turned to
her.
"I need you to chase after Ten Sao Tami,
Keiji," Vespa instructed.
"What? Me?" She wanted him to face off against
that man? By himself with no aid from anyone? Could he even
accomplish a task that great?
"Yes, the rest of us will fight against the
angels."
"Why?"
"When you defeat Ten Sao Tami, you'll free them
from their possession. You can't kill the angels but you can kill
Ten Sao Tami if you need to," Vespa would rather have a clean
conclusion to everything but she didn't think that there was any
other way to save Shaffon from their blind prejudice.
"What about his Time Freeze attack?" Keiji
asked. If he were to fight him on his own with that attack, he
would surely die.
"Since the angels have separated from him, he
no longer possesses that power," Vespa informed. Ten Sao Tami only
had the powers of the angels when they were encased in that crystal
orb, when they were released to aid him in battle, their powers
returned to them.
"So, one of the angels has it, but which one?"
Green eyes looked to the battlefield as he thought about each angel
and the powers they possessed. Someone was in danger, but
who?
"Zadkiel," Hiroshima told them the
answer.
"What?"
"That's a power specifically to Zadkiel.
Nataniel is a Sun Angel, he controls fire and Ra'shiel is a Storm
Angel," the legend noted.
"What kind of angel is Zadkiel?" Fife
asked.
"He's the reigning angel of Jupiter. I said all
of this earlier," the spiky-haired angel signed in
annoyance.
"Oh yeah, I forgot," Fife placed a hand behind
his head and smiled.
"Vespa, Fife and I will fight Nataniel-"
Hiroshima began to say but he was cut off by the witches'
words.
"You and Fife will fight against Nataniel; I'll
help Zangetsu and Chichiri against Zadkiel. They'll need it if he
decides to pull his Time Freeze attack out," Vespa noted as the
angel sighed.
"Damn…I don't know how much longer I can
keep doing this," Hiroshima had hoped that Vespa would have worked
with he and Fife so he could rest while Fife and the Red Witch
fought off Nataniel. He didn't know how much magic he had left to
keep himself standing and conscious.
"You should take the back seat. You are the
weakest member of the team right now," Vespa's words seemed easier
said than done.
"I can lend you a hand," Fife told Keiji as he
held out his sword to him. "Here, take this with you. You cannot
fight him with just physical strength behind you."
"Thanks," Keiji smiled a little as he took the
sword.
"You don't need magic to control it, simply say
'Demon Sword, hear my call' and it will come to your aid," the
vampire instructed him on how to use the sword incase he might need
it to fight against Ten Sao Tami.
Keiji thanked the king again for his
help.
"I wish you luck," Vespa pointed her staff at
the boy. "I will now send you directly to him…Flame
Transport." The red-haired witch closed her eyes as the winds began
to blow, causing her hair and clothes to flutter in the wind as
flames shot up from the ground in molten streams as they swirled
around Keiji's form, engulfing him in a circle of fire.
"Thanks for helping us, Vespa,” he told
her as the last of the flames covered his eye sight and everyone
was lost from view.
"That's what I'm here for," Vespa told him and
turned from her spell with a serious look on her face.
'Besides, we have a contract and I must live
up to my end of the bargain, otherwise, everyone involved would
die.'

NOTES:
Nataniel, Ra'shiel and Zadkiel- These angels
are based off of the Jewish perception of the angels of the 7
Heavens. I thought it would be interesting to use them, as well as
show everyone the light angels. There will be more light angels in
this work, in this and other arcs, if you chose to read
them.
