Chapter 83: Yin-Yang

Hiroshima lay in bed, his bandages had been
changed and now he found himself resting a little easier then he
was before. The gentle pattering of the rain provided his battered
body with some comfort.
"There, now you should be able to rest easier,"
Keiji sat at his bed side.
He heard a few footsteps as Iva walked into the
room with a few sets of clothes and a cane. "Since I'm a fashion
designer, I have some clothes that you all can wear. I specialize
in punk, steam punk and gothic lolita fashions. I have a few that I
think should fit you all. If they don't then come by and I'll
either find something or tailor them for you."
"That's very sweet of you, Iva. Thank you,"
Fife smiled at the gothic pub owner as he took a few garments from
her. She then walked over to the bed-ridden angel and handed him
the cane.
"I noticed that you had trouble walking. You
can use this instead of having someone help you out all of the
time," she offered. "I'm sure that you'd like feeling more
independent."
"Independent is his thing," Chichiri smiled
playfully.
"Boy isn't that the truth?" Keiji
agreed.
"Oh, shut up," the spiky-haired angel took the
cane and his change of clothes from her.
"Let's all get some sleep," Fife suggested. "We
can change tomorrow."
"There's a shower down the hall to the right,"
Iva instructed them to a place where they could wash if they had
to. "It's small and reserved for bands but you have free access
since you're my guests."
"Bands?" The blonde questioned.
"Sometimes they want to get a quick wash before
they hit the road," the black-haired woman glanced over to Tsurugi,
who was fast asleep on the floor.
Hiroshima said his good night as he closed his
eyes and drifted off to sleep. Keiji then bid everyone good night
as Iva told them that she would see them in the morning. Ko nodded
as the she turned off the lights and told them good
night.
While everyone slept, a thick, black fog began
to flow into the room, originating from Hiroshima's chest. He
clenched the covers as a pained look crossed his face.
Suddenly, his body shot up and he hunched over
in pain as wings of a pitch black color shot from his back as he
heard a familiar voice shoot through his senses.
'Do you honestly
think that you can defeat me or even think of ridding yourself of
me? The ultimate punishment for betraying me is death! You think
dying in a year is bad, you just put yourself in the front of the
express line!' The voice was
irrational and livid in tone as the angel's eyes shot open and he
clenched his chest.
"Damn it…I knew this would happen. I
never…should have told those kids…about my
problems…" He strained as massive pains shot through his
body.
'Now, the fun
shall begin.' The spirit told him as
it sucked itself into the angel's chest. Keiji shot up out of bed
as he heard the angel's pained yell.
His green sights shot straight to the angel as
shock overcame him. "Huh? Hiroshima!" He saw nothing but black fog.
The boy sensed that there was something wrong, so he quickly arose
and dashed over to check on the others, who still seemed to be
asleep.
Keiji ran over to Ko and called her name but
she seemed unresponsive. "Hey, Ko!" He shook her lightly. "Ko!" He
tried to call out her name a third time but he got no response and
when she was rolled over, he found that she was dead. Quickly
releasing her as he stumbled backwards in horror he could hardly
believe that she had died. "What's going on? She's
dead."
"Foolish boy, you cannot even think to get your
precious friends back now," he heard a voice call out to him. It
seemed familiar and he could have sworn that he had heard it
somewhere before.
Quickly, he turned around to see two Hiroshima
standing before him. One of the two had wings of pitch black and
was dressed in a black, long-sleeved shirt that more resembled a
coat with several blue belt-like clasps with matching pants and
shoes and a blue head band that tied in the back. The other,
however, seemed polar opposite and possessed wings of pristine
white, dressed in an identical outfit- except in white and
blue.
"What the hell?" He saw both of them talking in
perfect unison.
"What's wrong, boy? Can you not tell us apart?"
Both of the angel's asked.
"What's going on? What have you done with my
friends? Who the hell are you?" Keiji demanded.
"Your friends are dead, absorbed by my powers.
I was going to absorb you as well but you woke up. Your response
saved your life," both of the angels noted.
"Ko…" Keiji's expression saddened as he
looked at each of his friends. "King
Fife…Chichiri…Zangetsu…Tsurugi…" He then
glanced down as he clenched his fist and his bangs shaded his eyes.
"How do I undo this?"
"Well, since they were just absorbed, it takes
a while to break them down completely. You can get them back but
time is of the essence. Even now, their precious memories are being
deleted. You have to go through me," they responded to his
question.
"What?" At this moment in time, it was crucial
that he make a decision. If their spirits were slowly being erased,
then it was imperative that Keiji do something and fast.
"One of us is the real Hiroshima, and one of us
is the spirit who inhabits his body. You will fight us both to the
death. We are Yin and Yang, two sides of a whole. If you kill one
of us, then you'll get your friend's souls back but if you kill the
wrong one, then you kill Hiroshima. The choice is yours on what you
want to risk. Don't bother trying to tell us apart. Hiroshima is
possessed, so his eyes look exactly like mine. We are exact in
every way," the angels informed him of their conditions.
The boy glanced back and forth between the two
as he tried to spot any little imperfection between the two, but he
found nothing. It was as they had said- nothing was different about
the two. They were truly identical in every way.
'This is impossible. Their auras and
everything are exactly the same. I don't see any differences at
all. So which one of you is the real Hiroshima?
If I kill the real Hiroshima, I'll be the
one to have killed everyone with a stupid decision. I've got to
find something that sets the light and dark Hiroshimas apart. I
mean, either one of them could be the real Hiroshima.'
He continued to glance from one to the
other.
"Damn it."
"I don't have all day for you think," the light
Hiroshima replied.
"The more you wait, the more your friend's
souls degenerate," the dark one informed him of his dire
situation.
"If you don't choose, we'll both attack you,"
both angels spoke in unison, forcing him to make a
decision.
"I'd rather fight both of you then risk making
a mistake," Keiji wasn't sure enough to fight them individually and
he would have liked to compare them to each other.
"You couldn't possibly defeat both of us.
Hiroshima is the strongest member on your team-" The light one
spoke before he was cut off by one little fact.
"Yeah but by separating, you've reduced his
original power," Keiji noted. 'And
I'll have to hope that it's enough to possibly defeat
him.'
"Your defeat is still evident," the dark one
smirked. "Pick your weapon, boy. You won't be able to defeat me
with your usual hand-to-hand combat."
"I'm aware of that," the boy thought to himself
on what weapon he'd choose. 'The only
weapon that I know how to use is the Demon Sword. I'll just have to
wing it and hope that Fife wasn't cheating me and doing the attacks
for me.'
He walked over to the vampire king, who lay
dead on the floor before him. Green eyes looked down on him with a
frown. "You know, you're a liar and I should hate you…but
somehow, I can't find myself doing so,” Keiji then picked up
the Demon Sword and closed his eyes. "I'll use it wisely." The boy
then looked at the other members of his team. "I'm sorry, everyone.
I should have protected you all."
'Now,
I will
save you.' Keiji thought to himself as he got into a battle position,
ready to attack at any moment.
"Let's get this farce over with!" The light one
told him as he drew his weapon, either an exact copy or the
original Crimson Blade. Just then, the dark angel shot past him and
circled around the boy with his sword drawn.
"I'll kill you right now! Demon Wind Blades!"
The black-winged angel called out.
"Demon Sword, Hear my call!" Keiji quickly
jumped into action as red beams shot from the blade and
successfully hit the angel, which caused him to let out a yelp of
pain. The boy quickly created a barrier with his blade as the
attack bounced off.
"Spiral Winds!" However, the second angel was
on him in a matter of seconds. He would not let Keiji even attempt
to stop for a second and ponder whether he was the real of false
Hiroshima.
"Ah!" The boy shouted as he was thrown back by
the by the winds as he closed his eyes to keep any debris from
disabling his vision as the harsh winds cut his clothing and skin,
causing a sting that shot through his body like an electric
current.
Keiji's eyes popped open as he quickly turned
to see that the light angel was coming down on him with his blade
pointed straight for his heart. He quickly moved as the blade dug
into the ground and the sadistic angel smirked and uttered the word
'fissure'.
"What!?!" Keiji exclaimed as the ground shook
violently and a large crack split it far too quickly for him to
evade such a thing. The boy plummeted into the darkness of the
large crack. Down he fell with little time to think. As he felt the
weightless feeling of his body gliding downward, he noticed that
his the wall of the split was close to him, close enough so save
him from utter destruction.
Thinking quickly, he stabbed the Demon Sword's
blade into it and managed to hang on, saving himself from
plummeting further. He gazed down into the sea of endless black,
thankful that he had not fallen any further into the unknown. Then
he glanced up and wondered how he would get himself out of his
current situation.
Then, he found himself staring at the dark
angel, who released his Quill Feather attack upon him. Keiji pulled
himself as close together as he possibly could as the feathers went
sailing past him like knives. A few of them pierced his skin
causing him to wince and close one eye.
A trickle of red blood ran down his arm and he
could feel it seep through the back of his shirt but there was no
way in hell that he was letting go of that sword.
The light angel dove towards him as he quickly
assessed the situation at hand. 'There's my chance.' He
thought as he pulled his sword out of the wall and jumped onto the
light angel's back as he flew out of the crevice.
"Stupid boy!" The angel turned around and
grabbed the boy from behind, diving down towards the ground in an
attempt to pile drive him into the ground.
'Shit!' Keiji thought to
himself in a panic. 'What now? Think
Keiji, think!' The boy's thoughts
scrambled for an answer before he became one with the ground below,
then his sights were directed to the angel's smirking
face.
"I'm going to send you straight to hell!
Express lane!" The angel promised as Keiji glanced to the side and
examined the base of the angel's white wings, then a thought came
to his head.
'I
know!' Keiji grabbed the base of the
angel's wings and slanted them to where the wind flow would
redirect and cause the light Hiroshima's body to pull up from his
fatal dive and flip the angel on his back as he jumped away,
letting the winged creature hit the ground harshly on his
back.
"Crimson Slash!" He heard the familiar voice of
Hiroshima as the dark angel was soon on top of him with his
signature attack.
The light angel teleported before he was hit
and Keiji managed to roll out of the way as the light angel
appeared on the other side of him and delivered a harsh kick into
his side that sent him rolling through the air as he landed hard on
the ground below.
His landing nearly beat the breath out of him
but he had little time to catch it up as the light angel was on top
of him again. He must have teleported but Keiji wasn't too sure
with the inhuman abilities that Hiroshima had often presented.
Angels defied all human laws of physics and were creatures of
mystery.
He rolled to the side and stuck his leg out, as
if to kick him and landed his heel into the ground but the angel
was too quick and evaded the hit.
"That was pretty inventive of you, kid," the
light Hiroshima complimented him. "Turning my wings to redirect the
air currents, causing me to be flipped beneath you was genius but
it won't get you far."
"Prepare to taste my blade. Crimson Slash!" The
dark angel tried to attack him with Hiroshima's signature move once
again but Keiji managed to dodge it.
"Crimson Slash!" The white angel then mimicked
the dark one's attack, trying to make sure that he got Keiji if the
other failed, but the boy dodged again. Then both of them got into
a similar pose and moved in perfect synchronization as they called
out the name 'Dance of Blades' as they moved both of their blades
quickly and the familiar crescent winds came barreling at
him.
"Demon Sword, hear my call!" Keiji brought his
blade in front of him to create a shield as he concentrated on both
angels. 'Damn it! I can't tell them
apart. No matter what I do. Is there a possibility that they are
both Hiroshima? No…one's the spirit, but which
one?'
Just then, a flashback hit him of something
that Hiroshima had said in the past.
'If I had to
choose, then I would ultimately choose to be
dark.'
It was a small flaw in the spirit's plan. There
was no doubt that the real Hiroshima had to be the dark winged
angel. If Hiroshima were to choose then there was no doubt that
he'd obviously be the dark winged angel. Then that meant that the
light winged one was a fake.
'That's it! He
would never be light, so this light Hiroshima has to be the
spirit.' He then closed his eyes as
he tried to vanquish any uncertain thoughts that came to mind and
attempted to counteract his theory. 'I hope this is the right choice.'
"Have you made your choice?" The dark stood on
a nearby cliff and stared down at him with those same hollow blue
eyes and that same smirk as he rested a hand on his hip.
"Whichever one of you is the spirit is the real
coward for this," Keiji spoke up, not really looking at either
angel as he did. "How dare you hide behind your host," he then drew
the Demon Blade and looked to the dark winged angel with a small,
sympathetic smile. "I think I've figured out who the real Hiroshima
is. Don't worry, things will be over soon," his expression then
hardened as he stared down the white-winged imposter. "I'm going to
save my friends and you."
The green-haired youth then charged with all of
his might towards the imposter angel, as their blades clashed over
and over as the two engaged in a heated sword fight. "I've got you,
bastard."
"You think you have it figured out? How?" The
light Hiroshima questioned.
"Because Hiroshima said that he'd ultimately
choose to be dark," his was confident with his answer.
"Did he?" The angel questioned.
"Yeah, he did," Keiji glared.
"You're a fool for believing such things," the
angel waved his blade across his view and sent out a blast that
knocked the boy back quite a way.
'I wished I could
do more than just call on the Demon Sword's power.'
Keiji thought to himself as he caught himself
by digging his feet into the ground. He then thrust the bastard
sword forward and yelled, "Demon Sword!! Hear My Call!!"
A red dome of magic encased him and quickly
grew as it sent the white-winged angel flying back as he yelled in
pain from the contact of the magical barrier. The angel flew into a
wall and bounced off of it, only to land against it with his arms
out as he panted heavily.
"Give it up. I know you're the imposter!" The
triumphant boy walked over and pointed his blade at the weary
angel.
"You're making a mistake…I'm the real
thing," the white-winged angel stared him straight in the eyes but
Keiji would have none of it. The imposter was simply trying to sway
him into killing the original Hiroshima.
"Liar. Don't try your mind tricks with me,"
Keiji replied firmly.
"Don't let him trick you. You're doing the
right thing. Remember, the lives of your team mates are at risk.
The more time that flies by, the less they'll remember, so if you
want to save everyone, kill him now!" The dark one instructed,
reminding him of the importance of his goal.
"If you kill me, you'll be making a huge
mistake. Think it through. If I'm confused then there is a
possibility that I could be dark in the end but I could very well
turn out to be light as well. The future has yet to be determined,"
the light-winged one reminded him of an important fact that was
also very true and both conflicting sides tugged at his brain like
two dogs on a chew toy.
Something would have to break soon.
"Once my decision is made, I refuse to change
it," the dark one tried to remind Keiji that Hiroshima was not that
optimistic. "You should know how stubborn I am. Trust your
instincts. You know that I'd never be light. The heart doesn't
forget the guilt and pain. I wouldn't be able to deal with that
guilt."
"You bastard!" The light one cursed as he
looked up at his dark counterpart.
"Die!" Keiji, in a split second, decided to go
with his instincts as he rammed the sword through the light angel's
chest in a fatal blow.
"K…K…Kei…ji…" The light
angel didn't look surprised, for he had predicted this long before
it had happened. He felt the blood surge up from this throat as it
ran down the corner of his mouth. The boy refused to look at him.
He turned his head away from the man who looked so similar to his
guardian angel. Keiji didn't want to watch someone who held the
features of his friend die. His green bangs shaded his eyes as he
frowned.
His wrist was then lightly grabbed by the
angel. "What in the-"
"Please…Please tell me that you're the
spirit and not the real one. Please tell me that I didn't just kill
the real Hiroshima," his voice was low and nearly pleading the
white-winged angel to tell him that he was, in fact the spirit and
not the real angel.
"I'd be lying to you if I said that," the angel
then revealed his true identity as Hiroshima as he smiled an ironic
smile.
Keiji's gaze then shot straight up to Hiroshima
as his eyes grew wide with shock and a sense of horror that made
his stomach churn with dread. "What?" The boy's hand shook with
terror as his voice trembled.
"No…no…You're…You're the real…"
"It's fine…I knew I was going to die
eventually," the smile still stuck to his guardian's face as he
looked upon him with understanding.
"See what your poor judgment has gotten you? I
am the true evil of this situation. Humans are so easily fooled,"
the dark angel smirked in satisfaction, revealing himself to the
boy and his dying guardian angel. Now he would have their souls as
well.
"It isn't fine…You're dying…" Tears
began to flow down the boy's face as he wept. He looked scared
shitless and wrecked with sorrow. He had just killed his guardian
angel. "Oh God…Oh God…I just killed everyone on my
team…Hiroshima…I am so sorry…"
Just then, Hiroshima hugged his lightly. "Kid,
it's not anything you could have-" He began but was cut
off.
Keiji hugged him tightly and sobbed.
"Hiroshima! I…I'm a failure…I should have never wanted
to help you so much. You're right; I should have minded my own
business. I murdered you…and I called you a fake."
"It's only a physical body…I'll be
reincarnated but I will have no memories of you all. Sorry I caused
you so much trouble," Hiroshima softly tried to chide him but he
knew that words would do him no good.
"Can't I help you in any way?" Surely there was
something! Couldn't he make a proper sacrifice that would bring the
angel back? There was never a time where Keiji felt more useless
then what he did now. Hiroshima was slipping away and he was
absolutely powerless to help him.
"It's a direct blow to a vital part of my body.
I'll be…" The angel was unable to finish his sentence before
his body gave out and he died in the boy's arms.
"Hiroshima? Hiroshima!" Keiji shot up in bed
and called out the angel's name again as his glance quickly shot
across the room to see that he was asleep. He continued to glance
around at the others to see that they were asleep as
well.
The boy sighed in relief as he wiped the sweat
from his brow. "Thank God…Thank God it was just a dream." He
then walked over to Hiroshima and sat down, with his arms around
his knees and watched him sleep. "You scared the hell out of me. I
thought I really killed you." He then brought a hand up to his face
to feel that his cheeks were wet. "I even cried out here. The last
thing I want to do…is accidentally kill any of
you."
He laid down and placed his hand on the angel's
wrist as he drifted off to sleep. "I'm going to sleep here, in case
that was some kind of bad omen," Keiji mumbled. 'I just don't know what to do…Somehow, I'm having
seconds thoughts about helping you get rid of that
spirit.'
