Chapter 13: It Has to End
"Holy shit! It's freezing!" I shouted. He laughed and jumped in after me, and then he started chasing me. I tried swimming away, but he caught up. Then he grinned mischeviously and lifted me up out of the water. Before I could start struggling, he dropped me back in. While I was under, I grabbed his ankles and pulled hard.
I laughed when he lost his footing and fell backwards. We swam a little more before we climbed out back to our picnic spot.
"Shoot," I said. "I don't have a towel."
"Shit, you're right," he said in mock panic. Then he pulled out two towels. We lay there together for a long time.
---
I had just grabbed his hand when my pone rang.
"Hello?"
"Hey, honey," my mom said. "I need you to come home and watch your brother. Grandma had a bad fall and needs my help."
"Alright," I said, pouting. I flipped my phone shut and snuggled up by Josh again. After a few mintues, I sighed and said, "My grandma fell, so I gotta go and watch my brother while my mom helps out. I'm really sorry."
"That's fine," he said. "Don't worry 'bout it."
I threw on my clothes, and we got on the four wheeler.
---
I had meant to give him a small kiss before I left, but he held me there for a little longer. Okay, a lot longer, really, but we both enjoyed it.
I wave goodbye and he drove off. After I lost sight of his truck, I went in the house.
"Hey, Mom, I'm home!" I shouted. I grabbed my brother out of his playpen, which he really doesn't need yet, and went into the kitchon. There was a note on the table.
Honey, you got really late so I called Liz.
Love you lots,
Mom
"Liz?"
"In here!" I heard. I went into the living room and found Liz and Chad making out on the floor.
"Hey, Chad," I said, smirking.
"Your mom said we could have some people over, so I invited Chad. I called Josh, too, but he wasn't home and his cell wasn't on. What were you guys doing?"
"Lots of stuff," I answered. "We went for a ride on the four wheeler and went swimming." Liz gave me a look that said 'that wasn't all you did.' I blushed a little. "Thanks for covering, Liz."
"It's fine," she said. "Talk to you later." Her and Chad left holding hands.
