Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Sharpest Lives ❯ Summer Begins ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

In a crooked little town

They were lost and never found

Fallen leaves, fallen leaves, fallen leaves on the ground

I don’t know why, but I had that song stuck in my head.

Sadly, it was summer and there was nothing to do. That’s usually what happens when it rains.

So I just sat in my room listening to music, staring out the window. I was about to fall asleep but the stupid phone rang.

“I got it!” I yelled out my door to whoever was home. “Hello.” I said groggily

“Hey Michi, what’s going on home skillet?” said a familiar voice.

“Oh, hey Cally.” I answered, still a little groggy.

“What’s the matter with you? Still sleeping or something?” she asked, catching onto my grogginess.

“No.. I’m just bored. Want to hang out or something?” I hopefully asked.

“Yeah sure, my mom will be there in 10!”

“Cally! Wait a -” ‘click’ “Oh never mind” I sighed.

So since I was apparently going to Cally’s house I had to change out of my pajamas and, since I only have 10 minutes, fast. It was 2 when she called and its 2:05 now so that gives me 5 minutes.

I ran up the stairs (my room is in the basement) and saw my mom sitting at the kitchen table with a beer in her hand. Nothing new there.

I pulled out the chair across the table and sat in it, across from her.

“Hey mom.” I smiled.

“What do you want?” she looked at me

“Um… can I go to Cally’s house for a little while?” I asked hopefully.

“No.” she stated plainly, taking a sip of beer.

I slouched in my chair.

“Why not? Its not like were doing anything.” I argued.

“Fine.” she yelled, “Go.”

She probably didn’t even know what was going on. She was an alcoholic after all.

When I got to Cally’s house her mom told me she was in her room.

So I walked up the stairs and went into her room.

“Hey.” I looked around.

“Yo hommie.” she said, crawling out from under her bed with a box in her hands.

“So you finally found your lunch?” I laughed.

“Yep.” she smiled, “Moldy egg salad, my favorite. Want some?” Cally laughed.

“But seriously.”

“Don’t know. Lets find out. Maybe it really is my lunch.”

Me and Cally sat down in the middle of her room.

In the box was a picture of the ‘Gang’ in 1st grade. Well, not all of us but most of us.

The gang is what my best friends and myself call each other. Were all always together almost everyday and were like brothers and sisters.

In the picture was Cally, Me, Danni and then Johnny.

I couldn’t believe how different we all looked. Especially Johnny. It was weird.

Johnny’s hair is still black and in his eyes and his skin was still tan but he was much taller than in the picture. His eyes were also deeper brown than they used to be when we were little. Now they were more of a chocolate color. E didn’t look like that little kid anymore obviously but still had some of the same facial expressions.

Cally’s hair was still dirty blonde but it was more blonde now, not too much brown left. And since she was Cally, she had hot pink streaks in her hair. Her eyes had gotten more hazel and her freckles were gone. Well, mostly anyway. You could tell by looking at her that her attitude hadn’t changed at all. It was more sarcastic if anything.

Danni let her hair grow out longer but it was still brown. Her freckles were still all across the bridge of her nose and her eyes were still a dark forest green. She hadn’t changed much except that she had gotten taller and all.

I was in like a daze staring at the picture.

“Wow.. I feel old.” I laughed.

“You should. That’s something my grandma would say.” she laughed while rolling her eyes.

Cally had a habit of doing that often. She would laugh and roll her eyes and some people thought it was an insult but if you knew her well enough then you know its just something she does to joke around.

“We should call Danni.” I suggested, putting the picture back into the box.

“I tried before, while my mom went to get you.” Cally droned.

“Lets call… -” I started

“Johnny and Jaesin!” she yelled.

Someone opened her bedroom door.

“No lets not call boys.” her dad laughed

I didn’t know if he was joking or not. I didn’t really know him too well since he was always away on business trips or something like that.

Cally laughed, ran over and hugged her dad.

“Hey Dad.” she said walking back to the middle of the room.

“Howdy, Mom left for work and I’m tired so try to keep it down, okay?” he pleaded

Me and Cally stared at each other for a second.

“Cally.” her dad said in that voice that only parents seem to have.

“Well maybe if you give me 10 bucks…” she trailed off.

He gave her the ‘Parent’ glare.

“Im kidding.” she assured him.

He started laughing and closed the door and we heard him walk down the hall to his room and close the door.

Cally pulled out her cell and sat on her bed. She went through her contacts and pressed send then turned it on speaker.

Jaesin and Johnny are hanging out today. Johnny told-” she was cut off

“Yo.” It was Johnny’s voice.

“Hey, dude.” Cally said

“Yo.” I added

“What’s good?” he questioned.

“Come hang out. You’re with Jay, right?”

“Jaesin.” we heard his voice in the background.

There was nothing that pisses Jaesin off more than calling him Jay. There really no other known way to piss him off. None that we’ve tried anyway.

“Yeah were on our way. Anything else?”

“Yeah. You have to come from the roof. Dad’s home and he don’t want boys,” she emphasized, “ even on the phone so be quiet and use the roof.”

“Alright Cal, Gotcha” Johnny said and hung up.

If you’re wondering how its possible to come from the roof, here’s how. On the side of Cally’s house there’s a part of the roof that’s only about 8 feet off the ground. In the middle of the wall there’s a ledge from the window. So if you climb up it (it slants up slightly to 10 feet) and walk across it to the edge of the house, about 3 feet away around the corner is an overhang that is just a foot or three below Cally’s windows.

Cally hung up the phone ad looked at me.

“Can I ask you something?” she asked in a tone that I’ve never heard from her before.

“Yeah, uh, sure.” I was curious.

“Well,” she started blushing slightly, “Is it…,” she paused, “ Is it wrong to, well, like someone who is like a brother figure to you?” she asked , surprisingly, meekly while blushing.

Okay I know Cally more than a lot of people. She like my sister and all but I’ve NEVER seen her like this. Honestly, I didn’t even think she had that emotion. And she never showed them if she had them but I guess you never really know someone as well as you think. No matter how much you know them.

“Well,” I didn’t know what to say, I was almost in shock, “How do you feel about it?” I asked.

“Well you’re a big help.” she scoffed, probably embarrassed.

“I’m sorry but that’s just not something I would expect you to ask, no offence.” I blurted out.

When I’m nervous I randomly blurt things out sometimes and I guess when I’m in shock there’s no difference to that.

“Well, I’m a girl too, ya know.” she squinted at me.

“Im sorry, I’m sorry.” I waved my hands back and forth in front of me.

“Anyway,” she almost yelled, “ What do I do?” she almost sounded desperate.

I’m always good for advice but I couldn’t think and I didn’t want to give her the wrong advice, I didn’t feel right giving her advice about this. It couldn’t have been Danni or someone else.. It just had to be Cally.

“Well, try not to let him know. Try to see how he feels first. If he’s smart he should realize your feelings. But then again he’s a guy so maybe I’m giving him too much credit. But either way, try to do it without having to tell him straight out. You get what I’m saying?” I tried to sound sure of myself.

Truthfully, I don’t know what the Hell I had just said.

“Thank you Doctor Phil.” she commented sarcastically.

“Hey, I tried.” I started laughing, “By the way, who are we talking about? I asked curiously while smiling.

She was blushing so much I thought she drew it on her face with a sharpie.

She looked up from the floor.

In a whisper she said………………………..
