Chapter One:
Summery: Although Avelonia Skyes and Pandoras Opal are roommates and have been best friends for eighteen years, they still have their secrets. Why would it take just one guy to bring their secrets out?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pandoras Opal slammed her fist on the bathroom door in a mix of annoyance and fury. Her roommate, Avelonia Skyes, had been in there for over half and hour and seemed to refuse to come out. It took up all the will power she had to not break down the door.
“Will you hurry up?” demanded Pandoras fiercely “I don’t want to be the only one in the class to smell like a farm animal!”
Pandora taught elemental magic at Taveron School of Sorcery, though she tells everyone who asked, including Avelonia, that she was an art teacher in some public school. If any word got out that she was a witch, she’d be tossed out of the world of magic and would have her wand broken in half. But right now she wouldn’t mind blasting the door open with magic and tossing out her roommate.
“I’m giving you till the count of three” she growled, roughly playing with the maroon strands in her midnight-black hair “one……two….thr__”
The door swung open and out stepped a young, blond woman in nothing but a canary-yellow towel and a look of annoyance on her pretty face. Pandoras noticed faintly that Avelonia had one blue and one green eye. She blushed.
Avelonia brushed out some pink strands of hair out of her face, and gave her roommate a glare “Here you go ‘Dora” she said rather crossly “you woke me from a nice, warm bath”
“So I’ve noticed, not that it matters, but I’m the last person in the world who wants to see you in a towel.”
Avelonia looked down on herself and back up to Pandoras in a flash, her face was turning pink as she quickly tried to cover up what the towel could not. She stuck out her tongue at Pandoras, who, in turn, pretended to snatch it, and marched to her room.
Pandoras rolled her eyes, shook off a very strange feeling, and bounded into the bathroom.
The shower only took ten minutes, but that was all she needed to wake herself up. By the time she was out and dressed, she saw Avelonia go out the door. She jogged up to her roommate.
“Another day on stage?” She asked brightly. Avelonia nodded. She was wearing a tight, bubblegum-pink mini skirt, a white, strapless belly shirt with pink lace, knee-high white boots, and her hair was in two girlish pigtails “Blue Heaven wouldn’t be much of a band without their lead singer.”
Both girls laughed. That was one of the cool things about living with a pop star goddess; you tend to know all their secrets. Pandoras gave her friend a quick hug, but was rudely interrupted by a loud honk.
“Oh, Rusty!” Avelonia called out to the driver “I’m coming!” she faced Pandoras and hugged her once more “See you later sis.” She bounded cutely out the door.
Pandoras watched as her best friend entered the passenger’s seat of the car. That was when she noticed a strange, unidentifiable person coming out of the shadows covered in battered, crimson robes. Pandoras wasn’t too sure of what it was until it pulled out a long, black stick…a wand!
The stranger pulled it out and did a quick movement that caused a stream of red light to pour out of it, shooting at the car.
Instinctively, Pandoras pulled out her wand and did a quick counter charm, knocking the stranger off its feat and landing on the ground. Apparently, nether the neither driver nor Avelonia noticed all the commotion, for they drove off unaware. Pandoras took a flying leap towards the stranger and pined it down. The cloth covering its face fell off, reveling a rather handsome, pale faced man with stone-grey hair and golden-yellow eyes, Pandoras recognized him immediately.
“Donovan” she murmured. Donovan worked as the Black Magic teacher at Taveron and had bad views on how non magical people should be treated. The wizard smirked and grabbed onto Pandoras’ waist possessively “this was how I’d always imagined it, Pandoras….you on top”
Without hesitation, Pandoras punched Donovan square in the jaw. “What game are you playing, coming onto my field and attacking my loved ones?” she demanded, pointing her wand at his throat. He gave a deep laugh “do you not know what she is? She is the danger to all races!”
“What do you mean? Avelonia wouldn’t hurt a fly! She is a human!”
Donovan laughed louder, Pandoras did her best to keep her cool as he continued “ have you noticed anything unusual about your friend?” he paused for a moment as Pandoras shook her head, then he roared “MARK MY WORDS, PANDORAS! SHE WHO SHINES IN MOONLIGHT WILL KILL US ALL”
With a loud ‘pop’ he vanished, leaving Pandoras kneeling on the sidewalk, quiet alone. She stopped shaking and stood up, dusting herself off. ‘I knew he would finally loose his mind’ she thought to herself as she used her wand to summon her broomstick. But she couldn’t help feeling that there was some truth to what he said. There is one thing she could never understand about her friend.
Avelonia never left her room at night.
