Chapter One: Cows!
“Hey, look, cows!”
Miu directed her chocolate coloured eyes towards her little sister, Etsuko.
“Aw, the cows are gone!” Etsuko stated, clearly disappointed.
“Well, we are driving pretty fast, we're obviously going to pass by things very quickly. And do you have to announce every herd of cattle that you see?” Miu shouted at her sister, clearly annoyed for unknown reasons.
Etsuko's head drooped down, as she returned to her seat, and tried, to no avail, not to cry. Miu realized that she'd over-reacted and reached to turn off her mp3 player, which was softly singing into her ear. As the music stopped, she reached out her hand and patted the soft black pigtails on Etsuko's head. “Sorry.” Was all that needed to be said.
Wiping away the tear drops that had escaped from her eyes (the lovely shade of her older sister's) and rolled down her cheeks, Etsuko looked up at Miu sitting next to her and smiled goofily, not needing to say a word.
“My my, you two get over fights so quickly!” a laugh followed the statement; their mother always seemed to be laughing at her own jokes.
Giggling, Etsuko tried not to cringe at her mom's echoing, squeaky laugh. It was quiet at first, but then just got louder, to an almost deafening tone. It was almost like the screech of a terrible monster.
Miu gently pressed the play button on her mp3 player, and leaned her chin in her palm, gazing out the window. She didn't exactly like car rides, Etsuko tended to get carsick, and her parents would often argue over directions. She would usually get involved too, pointing out that both of them wanted to go the wrong way.
“Hey, sister!” Etsuko shouted, tugging on the sleeve of Miu's dark blue sweatshirt, and waving a hand in front of her face.
Again, Miu paused her mp3 player, looking over to her little sister, “What now?” a tired smile was forced.
“What are you listening too?” Etsuko asked, eyes glistening with eight-year-old visions of rainbows and puppies.
“Nothing really. Just what I usually listen too.”
“…Oh….” Sitting back in her seat, Etsuko folded her hands and looked down. “Can I listen too?”
Miu removed one earphone, and placed it in the smaller girls more rounded ears, hoping it would fit. The mp3 player sang once again, and Etsuko sang along with it. Miu listened to the song often, and had thought Etsuko the words, so the lyrics flowed easily from her mouth. Miu joined in with her, smiling, as Etsuko got louder.
Etsuko's voice sang high and flowed beautifully, doing the song great justice. It was no secret that Etsuko loved to sing, and she did so quite well. She learned when to lower her voice and how to go with the timing very well, and Miu was sure she could be a professional one day. Miu, however, had never had anyone judge her voice, because her family was the only group that heard her. Even though, talented voices seemed to run in the family.
As the song continued, Etsuko kept singing, after a while, she didn't even realize she was anymore. However, her voice still flowed, with a voice that made the birds jealous. Miu definitely felt proud, she wanted her sister to go far, and with her singing, Miu was certain she could.
The song ended, and a new song came a few moments later. “Huh? I never heard this one before… did you just start listening to it?” Etsuko asked, blinking her large eyes in confusion.
“Yeah, it's the ending song for a new show I started watching.”
“Not another one of those anime shows, right?” Natsuki's voice asked from the front seat.
Miu gave a small glare, “Mom, it's mean to mock your children's interests, you know.”
A smile graced Natsuki's face, “I'm not. But I was hoping you started watching something more… your age?”
“Mom… ugh, forget it.” Miu sighed, and slouched into her seat.
Etsuko stood up on her seat again, “Look! We're here, we're here!!” Her eyes lit up with excitement as she pushed her face against the cool car window, trying to get a better look.
The car pulled to a stop in front of a large red brick house, it's black roof going along quite nicely. Blue curtains hung inside the house in front of every circular window, and the white door up front looked very inviting.
“Yay! Time to see Grandma and Grandpa!” Etsuko shouted, leaping out of the car and running to the door, letting her long red skirt flow behind her. She ran to the door, and knocked cheerfully, giggling as the door slowly opened.
END.
A/N: Well, this is the first chapter; hopefully it'll turn out this good (in my opinion) when I finally turn it into a web-comic. These are mostly going to be short little random stories in the beginning, so don't expect a continuation to this particular one. Until next chapter, bye bye!
