Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Stories of Ye' Old Gettysburg ❯ Schools in Gettysburg ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

1. As the Confederates were coming into Gettysburg on July 1, 1863, the school at Gettysburg was in session. As the armies started to advance into town, the children were dismissed and dumped into the streets. The students, who had always been told anyone from the South was evil and were bloodthirsty killers out to get them, were frightened, to say the least. In voices loud enough to be overheard, but not suspiciously loud, they spoke of how the wells had been “poisoned.” The soldiers heard, and so decided to stay away from the wells (since it was not unheard of to poison your enemies' water). The days of the battle were about 90Ëš, which made the soldiers very thirsty. It was so hot out, and they need another source of hydration, so they chose coffee. They got the water for the coffee from the hoof-prints of their horses, which was a nasty yellow color, but they had liquid, so they were not concerned. And that was how a bunch of kids helped the Union to foil the Confederate troops' water supply, without ruining it for the Union itself.
