The Death of Tigger
by Candace Carpenter
Alexa's eyes drifted back and forth between the television and the lamp. She walked slowly on her knees across the carpet toward the T.V. and waited for the scene to reappear. When it did, she focused as hard as she could on the screen.
Standing quickly, Alexa darted back to the lamp. The red gooey, possibly sticky substance floated slowly around and around inside the glass. After a moment of thought, Alexa decided that her suspicion was correct.
It did look a lot like blood.
But even if it were blood, whose blood could it be? She knew that her parents were too nice to kill someone. And her younger brother, Jason, was too much of a baby still to hurt anything. Though he does pull my hair something fierce, she thought with a scowl.
That only left her older sister Jenny. A light came on in Alexa's mind. Jenny often wore red on her fingernails and on her lips. She also drank tomato juice, which, in her opinion, also looked a lot like blood. Jenny had also been very angry at that guy lately. He had stopped coming over too. He used to come over all the time, but not now. It was all very suspicious.
That settled it. Jenny was a murderer. She killed that guy and put his blood in this lamp she came home with yesterday. Alexa could have cried. Her sister was a murderer! Yet something in her was excited for having solved the mystery. She had to tell someone right away. Who was home?
“Alexa,” she heard her mother call. The perfect person! Alexa went quickly into the kitchen to report the bad news.
“Yes, Momma?”
“What are you watching in there? I thought I told you to put in one of your movies. Are you just watching T.V. again?” Alexa shifted her eyes to the right. Darn. She had forgotten about that. Well, anyway!
“That doesn't matter now Momma!” she said hurriedly. “Jenny is a murderer! She killed that guy!” Her mother's face became first shocked, then confused.
“What are you talking about?” she asked. “Oh! Do you mean Ryan? Alexa, honey,” her mom bent down to her level, below the kitchen counters. “Jenny and Ryan broke up, and that's why he won't come over anymore Sweetheart. Jenny didn't kill him.” Her mother put out a hand and began to smooth Alexa's dark brown hair. Alexa had yet to be convinced.
“But what about that weird lamp with blood in it?” she asked suspiciously.
“Blood?” her mom thought for a moment. “Alexa, that's just a lava lamp. It's not blood, Honey.”
“Oh.” she replied. Alexa's mom walked her back into the living room.
“Court TV? Alexa, haven't I told you that I don't want you watching this?”
“Yes, Ma'am,” she answered. Sliding a tape into the tape player, her mother spoke again.
“Here, watch Winnie-the-Pooh. You love Winnie-the Pooh, right?”
“I guess so.” Her mother pressed play, and returned to the kitchen. As the picture and music came on, Alexa couldn't help but think to herself, that Winnie-the-Pooh would be much more interesting if only somebody killed Tigger.
The End
The story had to consist of 500 words, and include Court TV, Winnie the Pooh and a Lava Lamp. Hope you enjoyed it! It was fun to write.
