“Weakness”
... He tried to avoid her, nervous, when suddenly they heard footsteps coming from nearby bushes
Arthion stood up quickly, ready to fight, but from between the bushes a small kid appeared. He was obviously a dragon, of about ten years and black short hair; he ran towards the prince and embraced his legs.
“Your Highness! Please, help!” he cried, grabbing the young man's legs as if his life depended of it.
The prince and Azami watched with surprise. “What happened?” asked Arthion, trying to calm his sudden worries.
“My mother felt you, she knew you would help us! Come, my prince, I'll take you” the child said and started to run.
Arthion and Azami followed him, until they arrived to a small village. There was a barrier around it, which prevented them to pass, but they could see it all: there were at least 10 soldiers, dressed with light medieval-like armors; they were surrounding a group of people (evidently dragon people). In front of them, there was a tall man with spiky gray hair; he seemed to be the soldier's commander.
“We'll never tell you anything… I can feel him, he's here, he will help us… my loyalty is with the real heir!” said a woman, apparently the leader of the village.
“Really? And where is he now?” asked sarcastically the commander, and hit her.
“Mother!” screamed the kid.
Arthion watched impressed, it seemed his people were not as resigned as he thought. After seeing the commander's cruelty with such a brave woman, he felt furious.
“Azami, use you medallion and open the barrier” he said.
“How am I supposed to do that?” she asked.
“Touch the barrier with it” he said, although he didn't know if it would work.
She did as he said, and the barrier dissipated at the medallion's touch, creating a hole big enough for them to pass. The child ran to his mother's side, while Arthion attacked at the soldiers with incredible speed. Azami simply stood and watched: she was amazed at the prince's speed, which allowed him to knock the soldiers out without even give them time to defend.
“Here I am” Arthion said, and the commander turned to see him standing near the villagers.
“How convenient, now I can once and for all destroy this stupid's hope” he said, and raised his hand towards the woman, “but first, let me show you what happens with those who defy the king”.
Arthion suddenly felt paralyzed, the gray dragon's magic had imprisoned his feet; he watched with horror as the commander shot from his hand a blast of wind, capable of slashing anything like hundreds of knives… the woman could not escape. Arthion managed to free himself from the spell, but there was no time for him to deflect the attack. In a desperate attempt to protect the villagers, he placed himself in front of them, receiving the attack in his body.
Arthion managed to deflect part of the attack with his hands, but screamed in agony as the blast hit his right side, slashing his skin. The force of the impact sent him to the ground. Azami and the villager watched with horror, but the commander laughed.
“See? Its foolish to place your hopes in such a useless dragon… it seems he's not as cold as he wants us to believe”.
As Arthion lose consciousness, he thought he had failed… he had shown his enemy his true hearth, his weakness…
