The Gift of Immortality: The Vault
Previously: Michael Anderson, a normal eighteen year old, met his un-timely end when he was hit by a car. Hours later he awoke in a morgue and while walking home was attacked by two dog like creatures. Before the creatures could finished him off, he was saved by a man called Johnathan Klawvious, who helped by explaining that he was a being known only as an Immortal, a creature that will not grow old and is very hard to kill. He also explained about the other immortal creatures in the world (Lycans, Vampires and Heamo-Lycans). Afterwards Michael was introduced to Edward Hepps, a mysterious old man who unlocked Michaels hidden power and then taken to "The Green Viper", a pub run by a large green demon named Ajax which acts as a safe haven for demons and other creatures.
Chapter 2: Old & New
We rejoin our newest immortal three days after his experience at "The Green Viper" which revealed to him a bit more about his rescuer. Apparently being brought back from dead doesn't relieve you of some of the basic functions of the body as the drinks Michael had had run there course, which lead Michael to the toilet. On his way out his arm was grabbed by someone sitting near the entrance. He seemed normal enough, until Michael saw that he had lizards eyes.
"Hey, who's that guy you walked in with?" He asked
"He said his name was Johnathan Klawvious."
When he said that the lizard eyed man quickly turned to the guy sitting next to him.
"See I told you, you owe me a tenner."
"Wait you know him?"
"I've never met him but I've heard of him, haven't you?"
"Well not really, why is he famous or something?"
"More like infamous, the Klawvious family is one of the strongest and oldest heamo-lycan family around, not to mention most of its members are famous in their own right. I mean John there fought in the last big vampire war, and I heard that he's gone up against an old one. There's also his father who beat an entire clan of vampires on his own, plus his great grandfather, Darius Klawvious, who fought some war god along side Dracula himself."
"So I take it he's tough?"
"One of the toughest around."
It was with these thoughts that when John offered to train Michael, he accepted very quickly, and so we see our young immortal in the present, flying into a wall with a very painful thud and sliding to the floor.
"I told you, never let your opponent get a good grip on you or you don't know were you'll end up."
"You mean there are worst places then in the walls?" He said as he got up, the pain in his back fading as he healed.
"They could pin you to the floor, and not all bad guys aim to kill you." John seemed to remember something then shivered slightly. Michael had to ask.
"What do you mean?"
"Have you ever heard of a Succubus?"
"I think." He said as he remember hearing the name vaguely
"They're a female demon that entice men into sleeping with them, then fucks them to death."
"What a way to go."
"Tell me about it, I knew something was off when she shouted 'You should be dead!!'. But it wasn't like she was that tough to kill, all lust based demons are easy to kill."
"Lust based?"
"I'll explain later, anyway I think that’s enough hand-to-hand for today, lets try some sword technique, you still remember how to summon your sword."
"Yeah." Michael closed his eyes, held out his hand and concentrated. He felt a strange sensation in his hand for a second as a sword materialized in his fist. He opened his eyes to see his weapon, still amazed that he could do that even though this is about the fifth time he's done it since he learnt how to summon his sword, another ability taught by Ed. John walked across the room to get his sword, which was larger, heavier and definitely older. They both took a stance facing each other, with their weapons at the ready, and waiting to begin. John charged and went for a downward slice which Michael barely blocked with his sword; John took a step back and again attacked, which Michael also blocked and it carried on like this until John decided to show him some alternatives.
"Your blocking to much you've got to dodge some more, remember you don't need to worry about getting injured."
With that said John went in for another downward slash and just as Michael went to block John quickly changed direction and stabbed Michael in the gut. The pain in his stomach only lasted for a few seconds but Michael still felt a bit woozy as he looked down at the sword sticking out of his belly.
"This may sting a bit."
Before Michael realised what he said John quickly pulled his sword out. Michael watched as the wound shut and healed leaving no evidence that he was stabbed except for the hole in his t-shirt.
"If you keep blocking, you might never get an opportunity to attack, but if you dodge or deflect attacks then the chances of you getting hit increase a bit but that leaves your opponent more open. You have to remember that the only injury that can hurt you is if you get your head cut off, so taking a slash or two to the chest or arm isn't really going slow you down."
"Sorry, I was brought up thinking that if you get stabbed in the chest by a three foot blade you usually die."
"Yeah well I've been jumping off roofs since I was seven so I wouldn't know how that feels. Anyway, I guess that we're through with the swords, I think we've got just time enough for one more thing: A flying lesson."
Michael started to sweat when he said that, he had been putting it off all day but he couldn't think of an excuse now. He learned about his wings from Ed but wasn't sure about using them, seeing as most things with wings were born with them, not suddenly develop them after a resurrection. They made their way out of the training room to the elevator and John pressed a button for the top floor. When the elevator stopped they got out and went up the stairs to the roof. It was already dark so the risk of being seen was minimal but that’s wasn't what Michael was worrying about. He knew that they were over sixteen floors up and immortal or not, he knew that hitting the ground from this height will hurt.
"Okay get your wings out then."
Michael again closed his eyes and concentrated until he felt the weight on his back and looked to see a large pair of black feathery wings on his back. He stretched them out and flapped a bit to get more familiar with them then turned to John and nodded to say that he was ready.
"Okay, this is a lot like when your fighting, just rely on your instincts, don't think just act okay, and if that doesn't work I just want to say sorry."
"Okay, Wait wha.." Before he could finish John grabbed the back of his shirt and threw him off the roof. When Michael realised that the only surface under him was over a hundred and seventy feet below him, he acted with out thinking and started to flap his wings. When he noticed he wasn't going down he started to go around the building and enjoy himself.
"See, it's not that bad now is it? Now come back in or your going to be seen."
Michael flew over the roof and landed, retracted his wings and followed John to the elevator. They went to the car park, got in John's car and drove off.
"So you were saying about Lust based demons."
"Well I'll start from the start from the top." He said as he keep a eye on the road. "Demons have different ranks, at the bottom are the imps and general soldiers. They deal mostly with possession and small things like that. Above them are the demon races, which are pretty nasty as they are high in numbers. Next are demons that feed off human energies, and they have there own ranks, like lust demons are the lowest as lust is the most basic of human responses, then there's fear, anger, hatred the usual. Then above them are the harder demons, their main warriors, and can take human form. Then there are the older demons which are just a pain in the arse, and the old ones, the first demons. The only ones more powerful then them are the chaos or demon gods."
They continue driving as Michael digests all this new information as the car turned into the familiar car park of the Green Viper, when he realised something.
"So what’s your beef with lust demons then?" Michael asked as John had a slight edge to his voice when he spoke of them.
"You'll find if you meet one, anyway lets not keep the others waiting shall we." He said as he pulled the car in and got out. They walked to the entrance and through the door, giving a welcoming nod to Kano, and into the main area. John instantly recognised Ed and the red head he was talking to. They walked over as another man ,with a ponytail and a long black leather coat, walked toward them and gave John a nod who nodded back.
"What was that about?" Asked Michael.
"Nothing really, just.......an understanding."
Perplexed by that answer he continued to walk with John.
"Hey Anna I didn't know you were back."
The red head turned around to reveal an attractive women, around her early to mid-twenties, with shoulder length hair and dark green eyes. Pale skin indicated that she was a vampire, which contrasted against the long black coat she was wearing.
"Hi John, Yeah I arrived yesterday, hey who's the pretty face."
Michael blushed at the comment and developed a sudden bout of shyness.
"This is Michael, he's only been dead about a week so go easy on him. Mike this is Anna Varess, a vampire from America who moved over here a few years ago."
"Alright." Michael spoke just above a whisper.
"Anyway how's your sister?" Asked John
"She's alright, misses the old days though."
Ed turned to see Michael looking a bit left out and decided to bring him into the conversation.
"I see you've learnt to fly as you don't look like a puddle." Said Ed with his usual knowing smile.
"More or less."
"Good thing to as I wasn't going to scrape him up." Said John
"So how did you hit the bucket then?" Asked Anna
"I was hit by a car."
"Oh, pretty standard then."
"So are we going to get a drink or what." Asked Ed
The group were approached by woman roughly in her mid-twenties, with long brown hair and green eyes. She was wearing a white tank top aand blue jeans, with a barbed wire tattoo on her right arm.
"Finally, we'll have the usual please Tina." Said Ed
"Yeah well you'd better pay soon or your tabs goner be worth more than this bar."
"You know I'm good for it lass."
Anna goes up to Ed and slaps him on the shoulder.
"Still hassling Tina, well go easy on her she's only human."
"I'll show you only human."
The two started to give glares when John thought it would be best if he intervened.
"Ladies please, or shall we get Terry involved."
As if on queue a man, somewhere in his late forties, in a wheelchair rolled by.
"Yeah you know the rules, no fighting, and that means both of you. I don't care if you are my daughter Tina."
"Sorry Dad."
"Yeah sorry Terry."
After that little scuffle, they settle into general conversation, with Ed and John making comment on each other as usual and Anna getting to know her new friend. As she asked Michael questions the more he was becoming attracted to her. John and Ed also seemed aware of the crush the young immortal was developing but decided not to say anything as they thought it would be more fun to tease him about it later. After a few hours Ed decided it was time to go home and feed his bat.
"Well you goner give me a ride or not."
"Keep your beard on you old git and wait." Said John as they got up and started to head for the door as Anna quickly downed her drink and caught up with them.
"Do you mind if I catch a ride with you guys?"
"No it's alright, hop in."
They piled into John's car a set off out of the car park and on to the road.
Back at the Green Viper, Kano was sitting reading his paper when he got a bang on the door.
Punters, this late?
He got up and looked through the slot, but could only see the silhouette of a large cloaked figure. Deciding that the guy look odd enough to be here he opened the door, but the guy just pushed past him and walked to the entrance to the main room. But before he could reach the door Kano ran in front of him and stopped him.
"Hey, no-one gets through here unless I let them."
Ajax was just wiping down the bar when he started to hear banging noises from the coat room.
"I wish Kano wasn't so loud when he's beating someone."
When the noise ended Ajax looked up and waited for Kano to come in wiping his hands, but when he didn't Ajax knew something weird was going on.
"Hey Kano, you Alright?" Asked Ajax
As a response the door was knocked off it hinges and Kano was sent flying across the room. A large man walked in, discarding his cloak to reveal a fully armour figure, with rows of metal spikes on both his forearms and thighs. He also had a strange light coloured helmet with slits for eyes. Ajax look at the symbol on its chest with resembled an eroded claw mark and with a deep sense of dread, recognised it.
"WHAT THE FUCK." He shouted. "It can't be, your all dead."
The warrior reach behind it and brought forth a large axe which had one side damaged, and started to smash the nearby tables. Ajax jumped over the bar and headed for the armoured man.
"No you don't, not here, not now."
Ajax went up to the armoured attacker and grabbed its large shoulder, but it just spun around a back-handed Ajax in the head with its fist. Ajax just stood back up, un-sheathed the claws on his fore arms and attacked the warrior, but couldn't penetrate the its armour. The Warrior swung at Ajax with its axe but missed and the two began trading and dodging blows. The warrior caught Ajax off guard and charged at him, pinning him to the bar by the throat.
"Tina, hit him."
Tina grabbed a nearby bottle and went to go hit the attacker, but he saw it coming and moved his head, allowing the bottle to hit Ajax. It smashed against his horns, leaving him dazed and glaring at Tina, who simply shrugged. However the action allowed Ajax to notice the shotgun and sword he keeps under the bar. He stretched but couldn't reach the shotgun, but he could reach the sword, so grabbing its handle, he swung at the attacker slamming against it's helmet. The warrior back up and the two began to fight again, this time with sword and axe. As the two fought, Ajax, driven by a deep determination and hatred, began to slowly wearing down his opponent, who realised that he has to end this fight quickly. As Ajax went to attack again, it saw its chance, he quickly spun around and delivered a round-house kick to Ajax sending him over the bar. However, as Ajax hit the floor he couldn't help but smile, he was exactly were he wanted to be. He quickly grabbed the shotgun and stood up, preparing to fire at.....nothing, the attacker had fled.
"Your not getting away this time." Ajax leaped over the bar a ran through the door.
Outside the Green Viper, the warrior burst through the door and ran down the alley way, occasionally doing a random turn to prevent any body following him.As the warrior made his get-a-way a man with a ponytail and a long black leather coat stepped from the shadows, watching it retreat.
"Interesting."
With that he jumped and scaled the building up to the roof and followed the warrior. Just as the mystery man left, Ajax ran through the doorway and looked around, shotgun in hands, but saw that his enemy had retreated.
"FUCK!*#" He shouted. Irritated and angry he went back inside.
About an hour later John and Michael walk through what remained of the door, into the bomb sight that was Ajaxs’ bar. Ajax was sitting on a stool with his sword in his hand and a thoughtful look on his face. Kano was also on a stool, but he was leaning against the bar with a couple of ice packs on his head and was looking rather annoyed.
"What the fuck happened here?" Asked John
Ajax looked up at John and through gritted teeth gave his reply.
"It was a Sath."
"Wait, didn't you tell me they were all dead?"
"I thought, or rather hoped, they were."
Michael thought he better ask before he was left totally in the dark.
"Sorry to sound like the new guy but what’s a Sath?"
John looked at Ajax as if asking for permission, and when he nodded John turned back to Michael.
"Well Ajax is a Ragent and he comes from a place called Ragenta, another world. There was a huge war the between the Ragents and a parasitic race called the Sath. The war was so bad that in the end only Ajax and one Sath remained, but in the final fight between the two an strange burst of energy brought Ajax here. That was about twenty years ago. I'd heard rumours about him and meet Ajax and with Terry's help set up this bar."
"I thought that whatever had brought me here had killed the Sath but now’s my chance to finish it of for good."
"You need any help?" Asked John
"Wouldn't mind some."
"Then I suggest we start looking tomorrow, for now lets get this place cleaned up."
With a plan made they went about helping the others fixing up their smash surroundings.
