Dreaming of the Future

Mandy leaned back in her chair. A little came onto her face. Soot tilted his head.

“What are you smiling about?” he asked. Mandy looked up.

“Oh, I was thinking about the future,” she said.

“Why?” Soot asked with his eyebrow raised.

“You need to know what you are going to do by then,” she said.

“Why?” he asked again. She blinked, looking so confused.

“Huh?” she asked.

“Kind of pointless, isn't it?” Soot asked. “Worrying about future and all that. Live for the here and now, man! Living in the moment. Seize the day! Make world your bitch! Be the king! Or queen in this case.” He noticed Mandy frowning at him.

“What?” he asked. His colleague sighed.

“If only you were this passionate about work and school,” she said.

“Aw come on!” Soot said. “That shit is boring!” Mandy shook her head and walked away.

“Don't appreciate it?” he asked. “Whatever.” Soot shrugged and walked away.
