Bryan gave a quiet sigh as our lips touched. He gently wrapped his arms around me and brought our bodies extremely close. I had never been this close to anyone before in my life. I stared up into Bryan's frosted eyes and knew that he was the only one I would ever want, despite anything my fathers said.
“Jay? Is there something wrong?” Bryan asked me.
“No, there's nothing wrong,” I answered. I buried my face deep within his chest, taking in his earthy, masculine scent. “I…love you. That's all.”
Bryan pulled me closer for another kiss.
Chapter 17
The day of Caelyn's due date came, but he did not go into labor. Daire and Aidan both knew that it was because the doctor was off by a month, but they kept this little fact to themselves. Both of them played the parts of the worried friends and they played them well. Everyone was on pins and needles the entire day, but Caelyn felt completely healthy. The next day was tense as well, but Caelyn remained healthy and did not go into labor. On the morning of the thirteenth day, Caelyn was admitted into the Medical Facility, accompanied by Daire and Aidan.
The nurse in charge checked his blood pressure, temperature, and pulse, and got him changed into a white gown.
“The doctor will be in shortly,” she said, closing the door after her.
Caelyn exhaled softly. Aidan took his hand and gently squeezed it.
“It'll be all right,” Daire said soothingly.
“They're gonna find out.” Caelyn shook his head.
“Shh.” Aidan's tone was severe. He looked around the room. “We don't know who may be listening. I don't know how thick the walls are. They could hear us outside.”
Caelyn nodded and fell silent. Half an hour later, Dr. White entered, looking urgent.
“Caelyn, what's going on?” he asked.
“It's been thirteen days since my due date has gone by and I'm not anywhere near going into labor.”
“I see. That is something to worry about. Well, let's have a look and see if we can find anything wrong with you.” Dr. White pulled on a pair of rubber gloves.
Suddenly, the door burst open and an angry-looking John strode in.
“What the hell is going on?” he demanded.
“O…oh. J…John,” Dr. White stammered. “I…I was about to have a look at Caelyn.”
“What is wrong?” John repeated sternly.
“Caelyn is almost two weeks past his due date.”
“Why?”
“I…I don't know sir!”
“Well, hadn't you better find out?”
“Y...yes sir. I…I was about to do that.”
Daire and Aidan had never seen Dr. White so flustered before. Nor had they ever seen John so angry. He looked like he was about to start breathing fire as he stood in the corner watching Dr. White do an ultrasound. John turned to them.
“What are you doing in here?” he asked.
“We came with Caelyn,” Aidan answered hotly.
“You can wait in the waiting room,” John said.
“We are not going anywhere.” Aidan's voice was firm.
“You don't have the right to decide,” John snarled.
Aidan scowled deeply. “And you do?”
“Don't you dare question me!” John shouted. “I am the director of the Institute!”
“That doesn't mean you have the right to play god!” Aidan shouted back. “Why do you get to decide what's right for us? Why can't Caelyn decide for himself?”
“Get out!” John roared. “Get out now!”
“Or what?” Aidan challenged, standing his ground. “What are you gonna do to me?”
“You dare talk back to me?!” John yelled, his face turning brick red.
“I don't give a fuck what you think,” Aidan said severely.
“Don't make me call the guards,” John warned.
“Please don't fight,” Caelyn whimpered, tears in his eyes. “And please don't kick Daire and Aidan out. I know it's not up to me, but I really want them to stay. I don't want to be alone.”
John sighed softly. “Very well, I will not make them leave. But I expect them to remain quiet and out of the way.” He turned to Daire and Aidan. “Is that clear?”
“Yes sir,” Daire answered respectfully.
Aidan scowled but said, “I understand sir.”
John turned to Dr. White. “Proceed please.”
“Yes sir.” Dr. White looked startled.
He quickly regained his composure and went back to what he was doing. He started the ultrasound. The next several minutes were tense.
“The baby is all right,” Dr. White finally announced. “His heartbeat is normal and there doesn't seem to be any sort of problem.”
“So why hasn't he gone into labor yet?” John asked icily.
“I…I don't know!” Dr. White answered uncertainly. He was silent for a few moments. “I…I don't believe it!”
“What's wrong?” John asked.
“It appears…I was wrong.”
“Wrong about what?”
“I don't know how this happened, but I was off a month on Caelyn's due date.”
“How can this be?” John asked.
“I…I don't know, sir!” Dr. White said nervously. “I…I thought when he came in that he was two months pregnant. I…I just assumed because of the timing that he was two months along.”
“Caelyn?” John turned to the blond-haired boy.
“I didn't know,” Caelyn lied. “I swear. I was just happy that I finally got pregnant.”
“I see.” John glared at Dr. White.
“I'm…I'm sorry sir!” Dr. White cried.
“You had better not let that happen again,” John said severely.
He stormed out of the examination room.
Dr. White let out a shaky breath and regained his composure. “I'm terribly sorry, Caelyn. I don't know how I managed to screw up your due date. Let's see here…” Dr. White was silent for a few moments, calculating. “Let's see…you have less than a month left so that puts you at…October 25. All right?”
“Yeah.” Caelyn nodded.
“You're free to go,” Dr. White told him.
“Thank you,” Caelyn said as Dr. White turned off the ultrasound machine.
Dr. White merely grunted. He left. Caelyn got up and grabbed his clothes.
“Thank god they didn't find out,” Aidan muttered, turning around so Caelyn could dress privately.
“You should have held your tongue,” Caelyn said severely, pulling his shirt over his round belly.”
“I'm sorry. I lost my temper.”
“I'm not surprised,” Caelyn muttered.
“Come on, let's get out of here,” Daire said before Aidan could respond.
The three friends left the Medical Facility and headed for lunch.
Suddenly, Daire felt a large hand cover his mouth. Someone grabbed him from behind and dragged him away from Caelyn and Aidan. His friends never noticed that he was gone.
Daire was dragged into a deserted hallway and thrown against one of the walls. While he was stunned, he was pinned against the wall. Daire got a glimpse of his captor, a Breeder he knew from a distance.
He gave a harsh gasp as he felt the Breeder's body press against his and slammed into the Breeder with his shoulder. It was like running into a thick concrete wall.
“Let me go!” Daire yelled.
The Breeder ignored him and clamped his mouth over Daire's. He licked and nipped at Daire's lips, trying to gain entry. Daire firmly kept his lips together.
“Open your mouth,” the Breeder commanded, pulling away.
“No.” Daire shook his head.
“I said open your mouth!”
“Go to hell!”
The Breeder growled softly and seized Daire by the hair and roughly slammed his head against the wall. A soft gasp left Daire's lips. The Breeder took advantage of this and slipped his tongue into Daire's mouth. Daire nearly choked. He tried to push the Breeder away, but it was futile. The Breeder was at least twice his size and three times as strong. Still he struggled, pleading and crying to be let go. The Breeder just ignored him.
He slammed his hips to Daire's, grinding them together. Daire grimaced at the contact. One of the Breeder's hands slid up his shirt, taking in the soft skin. Daire's breath caught in his throat when the Breeder's hands ran over his nipples.
“You are as beautiful as your outward appearance suggests,” the Breeder whispered huskily, nibbling on his earlobe.
Daire could barely suppress a groan. “S…stop.”
“Now why would I stop?” the Breeder asked.
“I'm…I'm not your mate,” Daire stammered.
“Does you think I look like I give a fuck?”
The Breeder placed more hot kisses on Daire's neck. His hands slid down to Daire's waist, cupping his crotch with one of his hands. Daire gave a harsh gasp. The Breeder slid Daire's pants down to his knees.
“No, please!” Daire breathed.
The Breeder ignored him. He slid Daire's boxers down.
“Please no!” Daire tried again.
“Silence!” the Breeder snapped.
“Help me! Someone please help me!” Daire screamed.
“I said silence!” the Breeder slapped Daire across the face.
Daire cried out and his face twisted around.
“There, that's better,” the Breeder said.
He lifted Daire's legs up, freed them from the tangled mess of his pants and boxers, slid his own clothes down, and wrapped Daire's legs around his waist.
“No! Let me go! Someone please help me! Anyone!” Daire screamed.
The Breeder slammed into him hard and without any sort of hesitation. Daire screamed as he was penetrated by one who was not his mate. The Breeder slammed again harder. Daire dug his fingernails into the Breeder's shoulders, trying to force him to let go. The Breeder's face twisted unpleasantly.
“Aleksei please help me! Please” Daire cried, tears streaming down his face.
“ALEKSEI!!”
The tray Aleksei was holding slipped out of his hands and clattered to the floor. The entire cafeteria fell silent as the dishes on Aleksei's tray shattered. It was so unlike him to drop anything.
“Aleksei?” Bryan asked, turning around.
Aleksei was completely frozen, his hands dropped by his sides.
“Daire,” he whispered in horror.
Without saying anything more, he turned and walked away, the broken dishes crunching loudly under his boots. Bryan put his tray down and left the lunch line. He didn't say anything as he caught up to Aleksei; he just obediently followed his friend.
Outside the cafeteria, Aleksei quickened his pace. Bryan had to practically sprint in order to keep up with him. He had no idea where they were going, but Aleksei seemed to know. He ran faster and faster, his breath coming in quick gasps.
Then, Bryan heard it. Screams. Terrified shrieks. It made his heart beat faster. They rounded a corner and stopped.
Bryan heard a low hiss escape past Aleksei's lips. He wondered what would cause his friend to react in such a way until he saw for himself. His eyes widened and he sucked in his breath.
Daire was pinned against a wall, his legs wrapped around a Breeder's waist. His face was streaked with tears and his nails dug into the Breeder's back. His eyes were squeezed shut. The Breeder was thrusting into Daire hard, causing the boy to cry out each time. The stunned silence was broken when Aleksei stepped forward.
“What the fuck do you think you're doing?” Aleksei shouted. “WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING TO MY MATE?!”
Daire opened his eyes at last. He had a terrified expression on his face when he saw Aleksei there. Aleksei stepped forward and grabbed the Breeder by the shoulder. He forcefully pulled him out of Daire. Daire gave an agonized shriek and collapsed, his breathing ragged. He wrapped his arms round himself and gave a quiet whimper. Bryan glanced over at Aleksei. He held the Breeder by the front of his shirt. His expression was severe as he glared at Bryan.
“Get him out of here!” he hissed, pointing to Daire.
Bryan nodded silently. He turned to Daire, who was crying and whimpering on the floor. He crouched down and gently put a hand on Daire's shoulder. Daire gave a strangled cry and his head shot up. He looked around wildly.
“Shh Daire.” Bryan withdrew his hand. “It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you. We've gotta get out of here, okay?”
Daire seemed to get control of his emotions and nodded, wiping his eyes with his arm. He exhaled shakily and got up. He found his discarded pants and boxers and pulled them back on. Bryan got up and waited for him to get dressed, politely turning his head away.
When Daire had finished, the two of them silently walked down the hallway. As they passed Aleksei, who was just standing there holding onto the Breeder, Bryan gave him a puzzled look. He didn't understand why Aleksei was just standing there. The redhead was known for his temper and he should have been beating this Breeder to a pulp, only he wasn't. But then Bryan saw Aleksei's face and he understood. What the Breeder had done was unforgivable and Aleksei wanted to beat him to a pulp, but no matter how angry he was, he would not take it out on the Breeder while Daire was present and stress the blond even more. Aleksei's usually unreadable face was filled with anger and also fear.
Bryan and Daire walked off, Daire trembling badly. When they were almost to the dormitories, thye could hear enraged roars all the way down the hallway. Daire gave a shudder and squeezed his eyes shut. Bryan gently touched him on the shoulder.
“You're almost there. Just a little farther,” he whispered.
Daire nodded and forced himself t start walking again. He swayed unsteadily. Bryan followed behind, keeping his eye on Daire. When Daire looked like he was going to fall over, Bryan was there to make sure he stayed upright.
They reached the Bearers' dormitory and Daire went in. Bryan hesitated at the door; he wasn't allowed in the Bearers' dormitory—no Breeders were. However, he needed to talk to Daire's friends. The guards blocked his path.
“Let me go,” he said. “I need to talk to two of the Bearers. It's really important.”
“You're not allowed in the dormitory,” one of the guards said firmly.
“But I need to talk to them!” Bryan hissed. “Please! At least let me talk to them. I don't care if you don't let me anywhere near them. I just need to talk to them!”
“I will see if the Bearers will come out to you,” one of the guards said. “What are their names?”
“They're Halen and Ian's mates, Caelyn and Aidan,” Bryan responded.
The guard went into the dormitory.
Caelyn gave a soft cry when Daire entered the dormitory. The blond looked terrible. Absolutely terrible. Caelyn heaved himself off his bed and rushed forward. Aidan, who had heard Caelyn's cry, and looked up, saw Daire and rushed forward, giving a cry of his own.
“Daire? What's wrong? What happened?” Aidan asked urgently.
Daire simply looked at him, his face streaked with tears, and filled with confusion and pain.
“What happened?” Caelyn asked. Daire still didn't answer. “Honey, what's wrong?”
“Caelyn and Aidan?” a guard asked, suddenly sticking his head in the dormitory. “There's a Breeder who wants to talk to you. He says it's urgent.”
Caelyn and Aidan looked at each other in confusion. Wordlessly, they left the dormitory. The Breeder waiting for them in the hallway was Bryan.
“Bryan?” Caelyn asked, stepping forward.
Bryan looked up, his pale blue eyes troubled. “Caelyn.” He glanced over Caelyn's shoulder. “And Aidan. Good.”
“What the hell is going on?” Aidan demanded. “What the hell happened to Daire?! Do you know?”
“Yes.” Bryan exhaled softly, running his fingers through his hair, trying to find the right words to say.
“Tell us,” Caelyn said softly. “Please.”
“You're not going to like it.”
“Tell us!” Aidan demanded.
Caelyn glared at him.
Bryan exhaled softly. “Daire was raped.”
Caelyn and Aidan gasped. Aidan gave a loud growl and laughed himself forward at Bryan.
“Bastard!” he yelled.
“Aidan, control yourself!” Caelyn cried.
He threw his arms around Aidan's waist and despite the fact that he was nearly nine months pregnant, he was able to keep Aidan restrained, though the brown-haired boy struggled to get free. The guards stepped forward to mediate.
“Do you think,” Bryan hissed at Aidan, “that I would be standing here if I had raped him? Aleksei would kick my ass, kill me, cut me to pieces, and burn the pieces if I had.”
“Do you know who raped Daire?” Caelyn asked.
“I…didn't see his face,” Bryan answered evasively.
Caelyn exhaled softly. Aidan stopped struggling in his arms.
“I…can't believe it,” he said faintly. “Who the hell would do something like this?”
“I don't know,” Caelyn answered, shaking his head.
“When I find who did this, I'm gonna kill them,” Aidan muttered.
“Aleksei may beat you to that.” Bryan gave a hollow laugh.
“He knows?” Caelyn breathed.
“He saw,” Bryan answered grimly.
“God!” Caelyn's eyes widened.
“Take care of him, okay?” Bryan asked softly.
“Of course,” Caelyn answered. “Daire's our little brother.”
“I've gotta go find Aleksei.” Bryan turned away.
“Bryan wait!” Caelyn called. Bryan turned around. “Thank you.”
Bryan nodded silently and then walked away.
Caelyn let go of Aidan. “Let's go!”
He and Aidan hurried back into the dormitory. Daire was sitting on his bed, just sitting there. He looked like he had no idea what he was supposed to do.
“Daire?” Caelyn asked, stepping forward. Daire looked up, a lost expression on his face. “Oh Daire!”
Caelyn rushed forward. He put his arms around Daire and pulled him into a hug. Daire leaned into Caelyn and closed his eyes. Caelyn could feel him trembling. A quiet whimper left Daire's lips, followed by a low choking moan. Finally, he opened up and started sobbing quietly into Caelyn's shoulder. Caelyn shed a few tears of his own as he quietly held his sobbing friend in his arms. Aidan stood in the background, feeling utterly helpless.
Suddenly, a guard burst into the room.
“Daire?” he asked brusquely. “You need to come with me. The Director wants to see you.” He looked at Caelyn and Aidan. “You too.”
“Right now?” Aidan asked.
“Yes,” the guard simply answered.
“Can't you see he's upset?” Aidan pointed to Daire. “Why can't you leave him alone for a bit and let him deal with this?”
“I'm only following orders,” the guard said hotly. “It's not up to me.”
“That doesn't matter!”
“Aidan,” Daire said quietly. Aidan looked over at him. “It's all right. It's important that John understands what's going on.”
Caelyn moved away so Daire could get up. he moved slowly and suddenly looked years older. It broke Caelyn's heart to see him like this.
They had no idea who had done this terrible thing to Daire. It could be anyone.
Caelyn's breath left him as he entered John's office. He felt faint and had to lean against the wall for support.
“Oh Halen,” he breathed. “What have you done?”
To be continued.
Note: Oh hell. What have I done? I just made things about a hundred times more complicated. Actually, Bryan wasn't supposed to show up in this chapter at all. Originally, Caelyn and Aidan were there with Aleksei and they were the ones who were supposed to see Daire raped (along with Aleksei, of course). But I rewrote the scene later because I didn't like the way it turned out and then Bryan ended up in the scene instead of Caelyn and Aidan, and I realized it worked well. I was originally going to have the chapter be much longer, but I decided that this was a very good place to stop. God, I'm horrible, huh? XD
Just out of curiosity, did anyone see this coming?
