Being pregnant was weird. From what my fathers told me, men weren't normally supposed to become pregnant. The two of them were a special case and now so was I.
I got a lot of help from Harou, who had done this so many times before already. He told me what to expect and helped me through my entire pregnancy. He was so patient with me. I got huge and was incredibly moody from the hormones.
In September, I gave birth to my firstborn son, Anatole. It was extremely difficult to give birth but I had a beautiful baby boy.

Chapter 31
Aleksei was gone for a very long time. Daire nervously paced around the room. Caelyn sighed softly as he watched Daire's movements, Rian asleep in his arms. He turned to Bryan.
“Can you hold him for me?” he asked.
“But…” Bryan protested. He sighed softly. “All right. Give him here.”
He held out his arms. Caelyn smiled and gently placed the sleeping baby in Bryan's arms. Rian shifted slightly, but remained asleep. Satisfied that his son was comfortable, Caelyn now turned to Daire.
“Daire sweetie…” his voice was extremely gentle.
He held out his arms. Daire walked over to Caelyn and the other blond wrapped his arms around him.
“It'll be okay,” Caelyn whispered.
Daire shook his head. He didn't say anything. He just kept shaking his head.
Finally, Aleksei returned. He had his and Daire's things with him. Daire gave a loud cry and ran from Caelyn's arms to Aleksei's, nearly knocking the redhead over.
“I'm so glad you came back,” Daire murmured, burying his face in Aleksei's shoulder. He started crying softly. “I was so scared I was going to lose you too.”
“Shh.” Aleksei held Daire tightly. “I'm not going anywhere, got it?”
“Now isn't this sweet?” a new voice sneered.
Dante and Bryan leapt to their feet. Daire and Caelyn gasped softly. Aleksei just stared. John stood in the doorway holding a gun.
“So this is where you've been hiding,” he said.
Aleksei immediately pushed Daire behind him, discarding their bags to the side.
“What do you want?” he demanded.
“Don't get so excited, Aleksei. I'm merely checking to make sure you're still alive,” John responded.
“I seriously doubt that,” Aleksei snorted.
John pointed the gun at him. Daire shrank further behind Aleksei, but the redhead didn't seem to be afraid. He gazed calmly at the director. John's eyes dropped to where the bags lay abandoned.
“What the hell do you think you're doing?” he demanded.
“We're leaving The Institute,” Aleksei answered.
“No you aren't,” John snarled. “You are not permitted to leave The Institute ever unless I give you permission and believe me, I will not allow you to just walk out of The Institute..”
“I don't care.” Aleksei's voice was extremely calm. “You aren't going to dictate our future any longer. You're done playing god.”
“Silence!” John yelled.
The room was quiet except for John's heavy breathing.
“You are not to leave The Institute under any circumstances. Do you understand?” John snapped.
“Go fuck yourself,” Aleksei responded.
“You insolent brat!” John screamed, his face turning dark purple. Aleksei stared at him levelly. “This isn't over yet!”
He stormed out of the room, slamming the door loudly behind him. Aleksei gave his retreating back the middle finger. Dante smiled at this.
“Just what I would have done,” he said.
“John is such a stupid fucking bastard. I hate his guts,” Aleksei growled. He turned to Daire. “Are you all right?”
“I'm fine,” Daire answered, trembling slightly.
He moved away from his mate and started to gather the fallen bags.
“Arlen better hurry up,” Dante muttered.
The door suddenly burst open and John came in with a handful of armed guards.
“All of you are under arrest for treason,” John announced. He turned to the guards. “Arrest them.” The guards didn't move. “What are you waiting for?! Arrest them!” He seemed to realize what was going on and laughed. “Oh I see. Very well then. I will execute all of you myself.” He turned to Daire. “I'll start with you.”
He fired the gun. Daire stood rooted to the spot. Aleksei started running but he wasn't going to make it in time and he knew it. But Bryan was on the move. He blocked Daire with his own body, taking the bullet in the shoulder. He groaned softly and fell to the ground. Caelyn and Daire screamed. Daire dropped to his knees and pulled Bryan onto his lap.
“Bryan!” he gasped.
Bryan's eyes slowly opened. “Hi…Daire.”
“Bryan, why did you do that?” Daire asked, tears in his eyes.
Bryan chuckled weakly. “I didn't want Aleksei to be heartbroken. I couldn't bear to see him like that. I…love him.”
Daire did not gasp at the revelation. In a way, he already knew about the relationship between Aleksei and Bryan. It didn't matter; it had started long before Daire had even arrived. They needed the relationship, a way to release their sexual feelings. Daire could understand. Sex once a month just wasn't enough for them and since they were forbidden from having sex with anyone besides their own mate, they had to do it secretly. Daire couldn't hold it against them. Bryan and Aleksei had their own needs and it had been impossible for Aleksei to have sex with Daire more than once a month when his heat came. Bryan didn't even have a mate.
“You don't look surprised,” Bryan observed.
“No,” Daire admitted. “It doesn't bother me. The Breeders are all horny teenagers. The only way for them to release their stress is through sex. I know your relationship was only sexual. You didn't want to interfere with my relationship with Aleksei. Right?”
“Yeah.” Bryan nodded. “We just fooled around because we needed something to do and it was a good stress reliever. It wasn't meant to be anything more than that, although I do admit I sort of got…attached to Aleksei. But I would never interfere with your relationship Daire. I swear it.”
“I know. I trust both you and Aleksei,” Daire whispered.
Bryan smiled slightly. “I'm glad.” His face turned serious. “Take good care of Aleksei, all right?”
“You know I will.” Daire's eyes filled with even more tears.
Bryan looked up at John. “You've failed, Director. Whatever you hoped to accomplish by taking Daire's life dies with me.”
“Well,” John sneered. “I was hoping that I would kill Daire first, but it's no matter. I can deal with him later. It doesn't matter in what order I kill as long as all in this room are silenced permanently.”
“You bastard!” Bryan growled.
John fired at him again. The bullet pierced his stomach. Daire screamed. Bryan groaned. Blood gushed out of the wound. Bryan started gasping and then fell still, his head resting against Daire's chest.
“Bryan? Bryan!” Daire gasped. He shook Bryan, but there was no life left in the dark-haired boy.
Daire seemed to realize this and started crying gently, murmuring Bryan's name. Caelyn started crying as well, holding Rian close to him. Aleksei's shoulders were shaking as he stared at the floor and when he looked up, Caelyn and Daire were surprised to see tears in his eyes.
He glared at John and it was clear that he was pissed off. John pointed the gun at him but he didn't even flinch.
“I'm going to take you down John, no matter what the cost is. I swear,” Aleksei said.
“What can you do? You haven't any weapon,” John sneered.
“I'll improvise.” Aleksei shrugged.
He ran forward and charged John. John aimed the gun at him and fired. The bullet barely grazed his shoulder. He didn't even notice. He tackled John and the two of them crashed to the ground. They struggled for a while, trying to get control of the gun.
Aleksei pinned the arm that held the gun on the ground and tried to wrestle it away. John, in turn, tried to force Aleksei off. Both of them shouted and Aleksei colorfully cursed and condemned John to every known pit of hell imaginable.
Caelyn stood there with Rian in his arms, staring with wide eyes at the scuffle. Daire likewise, sat on the ground with Bryan's body in his arms, just watching in stunned silence.
Dante calmly stepped forward and took the gun. It didn't take much effort for him to take the gun away. He made a gesture with his hand and the guards stepped forward. With relative ease, they separated John and Aleksei and restrained the director of The Institute. John was strangely silent, seeming to accept his fate without question. Aleksei shook the guards off him and turned to Dante.
“Give me the gun,” he ordered.
“No,” Dante refused.
“Give me the fucking gun Dante!” Aleksei yelled.
“I will not.” Dante shook his head.
“But Dante…!” Aleksei protested. He sighed softly. “Unless John dies, it'll never end.”
“I agree,” Dante said softly. “However, I will not allow you to become a murderer. My hands have already stained with a lot of blood. I'll do the deed.” He turned to the guards. “Take him outside. I'll be right there.”
The guards nodded and dragged John out into the hall.
“Let go of me!” They heard John protest at once. “Get your hands off me! I am the Director of The Institute and you will listen to me…”
Dante sighed softly. “I'll be right back. Try not to listen, okay?”
“I understand,” Aleksei responded.
Dante left, closing the door behind him with a snap. Aleksei walked over to where Daire was still sitting on the floor and kneeled down. Then, he looked at Caelyn.
“Take Rian and go into the bedroom. Close the door. Hurry!”
Caelyn nodded and hurried off. Aleksei heard the soft clicking of a door closing. He turned back to Daire, not knowing how much time he had. He swiftly pressed his hands over Daire's ears.
“It'll be all right,” Aleksei said softly. “It'll be over soon.”
Daire nodded, his body trembling. Aleksei was tense, waiting for the sound he knew was coming. Then, he heard a gunshot. Despite Aleksei's hands covering his ears, Daire's heard the faint sound and his entire body stiffened. He sucked in his breath and closed his eyes, his hands tightening around Bryan's body. He felt Aleksei's lips press against his forehead for a light kiss, but didn't dare open his eyes. The silence now following John's end was even worse.
To be continued…
Notes: Um…wow? I wasn't expecting there to be a past relationship with Bryan and Aleksei, but I'm not surprised. The Breeders don't seem to have many morals in the first place. Monogamy? What's Monogamy? XDDDD Please don't kill me for killing Bryan? Please? I was going to kill off Aleksei, but Bryan sort of got into the way and I decided that that worked better.
Dante, who the hell are you?! I will say this about Dante: in Chapter 21 he told Daire that he was twenty-eight years old, but that's a lie. He's a liar. I'm not saying that you shouldn't trust what he says because 90 percent of the time, he is telling the truth, but he is known to lie on occasion. Why? That's the real question, isn't it? Dante is a very complex man, even more complex than Aleksei.
I ended up rewriting the whole scene where Bryan gets shot because I didn't like the way it had turned out. I'm much happier this time around. Originally, Bryan was only going to get shot once, but I decided that he needed to be shot again to speed up his dying process. God I sound so sadistic. XD
Only one chapter left, folks. Then I can really begin the revisions. And also, I decided that in addition to writing the two novels about Dante (yes there are going to be a whopping two novels about him—there's just that much stuff) I'm also going to write a novel or two about Hayden, Harou, Jayden, Bryan, and the rest. I know I got into some details here, but that was only a sample of what they went through. It's gonna be fun. :D
