Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ The Life of the War ❯ No One Mourns the Wicked ( Prologue )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

A/N: Hello! This is a story that was inspired by a random moment in time when I was listening to the Wicked soundtrack, followed by the Sweeney Todd soundtrack…And Les Miserables…And so on and so forth. Anyways, I hope you like this.

The Life of the War
Prologue: No One Mourns the Wicked

Good news!

The news was spreading fast, and everyone was celebrating all over the lands. There was a new ruler, and the one believed to be evil was no longer able to command them.

She's dead!

The army was even celebrating. It seemed that there was no depression…None at all, despite the important death that had occurred mere hours before.

The witch of the west is dead!

The death hadn't been overwhelming at all, and it seemed as though the overjoyed west would be better off. Unbeknownst to them, trouble was brewing amongst the ceremonies…

The wickedest witch there ever was!

The bright day was still unmarred, despite the evil that was coming into the lands. Perhaps the ruler's death would bring along something even more terrible…

The enemy of all of us here in Oz is dead!

The people who had considered her the end of their lives were celebrating as well, and the prisoners were freed so that they could all join in the festivities.

Good news!

“The `Rose' is dead!”

Good news!

“She's gone forever!”

Look! It's Glinda!

Everyone silenced as the new ruler was at the podium.

Fellow Ozians

“We are now free of the rule of Bara Ichido!” The man shouted.

Let us be glad

The cheers were extremely loud…Except from one man.

Let us be grateful

“This is the time that the central district can revive under my rule! The evil that was our leader is now gone.”

Let us rejoicify that goodness could subdue the wicked workings of you-know-who

“The wretched demon is gone!”

Isn't it nice to know that good will conquer evil?

The man crept closer to the large speaking area, his eyes beginning to fade to red…As this was only a human.

The truth we'll all believe'll by and by outlive a lie?

“Her concern was nowhere near true! And now we will have a real ruler, who cares about the land. What do you think?”

For you and—

Even louder cheers, until…

No one mourns the wicked!

The man kicked the new ruler hard in the side. “Though she won't be mourned, she was not evil,” he informed.

No one cries: They won't return!

“What the hell?!” The new ruler shouted at the man. “Who the hell are you?!”

No one lays a lily on their grave…!

He snorted. “You humans…” He muttered. “You're all so pathetic that you get over the past so quickly. If you must know who I am, I am the new ruler for the kingdom goes to me.

The good man scorns the wicked!

There was some obscene shouting, which didn't bother the man at all. He was still glaring at the `new ruler'.

Through their lives our children learn what we miss when we misbehave.

“So, do the children think all demons are wicked? That they'll turn into one if they don't do what they're supposed to?”

And goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely

“Demons are fiends!”

Goodness knows the wicked die alone

“How many times did she save your asses?! She was alone when she died! That shows how utterly stupid you humans are!”

It just shows when you're wicked, you're left only on their own

“She was evil!”

Yes, goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely

“She was alone for her whole life, you jackass…She cared, though. This was all she had.” He made a broad gesture of the central lands.

Goodness knows the wicked cry alone

“She had no emotion!”

Nothing grows for the wicked, they reap only what they sow

“She cried every day for the lands! She grew her own crops and gave them out to farmers!”

Are people born wicked or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?

“Hrmph!”
“She's a demon, yes. But that doesn't mean she's evil. She's forced into this darkness and cast away from it all.”

After all, she had a father.

“She pushed and pulled along the tides, very emotional because she was part human.

She had a mother!

“Her father was half human.”

As so many do…

“She was like you or I, you worthless humans.”

How I hate to go and leave you lonely…

He sighed, pulling of the hood of his cloak. “I was her mate. And I was away for a meeting the one day I oughtn't have been.”

That's alright, it's only just one night!

He looked up at the sky. She had urged him to go…

But know that you're here in my heart while I'm out of your sight…

He didn't think it could happen…

And, like every family, they had their secrets!

He even thought that she was cheating on him! No, she was extremely loyal.

Have another drink, my dark-eyed beauty.

Of course…He could remember her drinking…She was always horrible with liquor…

I've got one more night left here in town.

He looked at the crowd, annoyed that they were all glaring at him. “Fine…I will tell you the story of Bara Ichido.

So have another drink of green elixir and we'll have ourselves a little mixer

He sighed again, trying to decide where to start.

Have another little swallow, little lady, and follow me down!

He decided.

And of course, from the moment she was born, she was, well, different!

“She was born a long time ago, hated from birth.”

It's coming!

No, they hadn't expected her to look so strange…

Now?!

They expected…Perfection in a mix-breed.

The baby's coming!

That was almost impossible…But she was perfect to him, for they both were rulers with similar ways of ruler…And they loved each other.

And how?!

He looked at the sky again. “As a young child…”

I see a nose!

His voice faded as he saw a cloud that had taken the shape of a dog. He glanced at the crowd, who were all listening intently.

I see a curl!

“At first, they had expected perfection…She seemed perfect…Until one day…”

It's a healthy, perfect, lovely little—

“She killed her brother. She loved him, and she didn't mean to. Her bloodlust had taken over and she couldn't control it…”

Sweet Oz!

“It wasn't her fault, yet it was to everyone else. She wasn't evil then, but people called her evil and she was beat more often.”

What is it?! What's wrong?!

“Her mother tried to help, but she was killed by Bara's grandfather, who blamed it on her.”

How can it be?

Yes, he remembered the crisis after that…How everyone chased her out of the district…Almost out of the mainland.

What does it mean?

That was the beginning of the `demon trials', as they were called. Hundreds of demons were killed…But everyone was afraid of Bara.

It's atrocious!

“Still, Bara carried on. She was teaching herself how to fight, and she sharpened her skills and control.”

It's obscene!

But…She was still a monster to them.

Like a froggy, ferny cabbage, the baby is unnaturally green!

He could also remember her great homecoming…Nobody recognized her at first. She climbed to the top of the army, making her way to head general.

Take it away…

People were hesitant to send her away again.

Take it away!

But…Eventually, they had.

So you see, it couldn't have been easy!

“She came back, and was an impressive fighter!”

No one mourns the wicked!

“But nobody trusted her, not even after she was working to the point where she collapsed in the middle of duty. She wasn't on duty then, but she had accepted too many responsibilities. She may as well have been the ruler!”

Now at last, she's dead and gone!

People were still not convinced. He knew that much.

Now at last, there's joy throughout the land!

“She was a serious ruler, but she was never cruel. She had a reason when she imprisoned a person, and it was never for herself. If someone threatened her, she wouldn't bother with capturing them.”

And goodness knows we know what goodness is!

He knew that he could change their opinions…But the story would take a while. It wouldn't take…Too much longer, or so he hoped.

Goodness knows the wicked die alone!

Yes…She was seen as evil. She was known as `the wicked ruler' in most areas…But she had never cared about all that…

Woe to those who spurn what goodness is.

She still cared only for the land and its people. For the army to be celebrating…They would have to be killed…But Bara wouldn't have done that.

They are shown no one mourns the wicked!

He turned his gaze to the lord, and where he was walking away. “…You shall die if you do not stop.”

No one mourns the wicked!

The lord was caught.

No one mourns the wicked!

“As they say…”

Wicked!

“NO ONE MOURNS THE WICKED!” He roared at the supposed `lord'.

Wicked!

A/N: I don't think the man will appear for a while. He'll be there in the last chapter. This is a songfic for a reason!!! Well, I hope you like it. R&R so that I know if I should continue.
