The Light Side... Of Love
There was a shy girl of twenty-one who was the Goddess of Light, who goes by the name of Enka Gin. She’s always been a secluded person, used to being all alone, and pretty much grew up in solitude. Thus, she has learned how to function completely on her own, and even works alone (since she doesn’t work in a sub department.)

She is a beautiful girl with skin of a soft peach complexion, platinum blonde hair that nearly looked white, and grey eyes. She exhibits an air of confidence, and a walk of a strong independent woman, which is wonderful…

…Unless you’re trying to get a man, of course.

She’s never thought much about love (concerning her, anyways), not being exposed to many people of either particular gender growing up. She was tutored privately all through her school years, so obviously she never got to see any males, besides her father and little brother. And even if she did find females attractive, it certainly wasn’t going to be her tutor, which was as old as dust and looked like death walking, putting it ever-so-bluntly.

But one day, about a week or so ago, she saw someone whom made her heart beat a little faster than normal, and she couldn’t take her eyes off him.

Enka was at the park, on her laptop writing one of her many love stories she loved to work on in her spare time, being a romantic, when a man walked up to her and asked her a simple, “Do you have the time?”

“It’s… three twenty-two,” she spoke, gazing into his eyes, studying his handsome face.

“Thank you,” he responded, smiling. And as quickly as he appeared, he was gone.

“I think I felt that crush feeling…” she spoke to herself, placing her hand delicately over her heart, feeling the beat. “How could it happen so fast?”

After a few days, however, she just accepted the fact that out of the millions of people in Heaven, she most likely wasn’t going to see him again.

Now today, she was going to visit her friend Sasuka, fellow goddess and long-time friend, at work while she was on break. Little did she know, she was going to see the mystery man there as well.

“Good morning Enka!” the little petite goddess with the lavender hair greeted her friend. “I ordered Chinese, that okay?”

“Yes…” Enka agreed.

“Good, because either way it’s already here and paid for so it’d better be okay!” she jokingly threatened her friend before gesturing that they head to the lounge room.

And at one of the tables was the handsome man from the park, just eating a sub! Enka couldn’t believe her luck.

“Enka, this is Souretsu Washi, God of Bravery. Souretsu, this is my friend Enka Gin, Goddess of Light. Acquaint yourselves,” Sasuka introduced them, before sitting to the man’s left side and opening one of those little Chinese food boxes before grabbing chopsticks.

“Good morning Miss Enka… what an unusual yet pretty name,” he greeted the pale-eyed girl, slightly complimenting her at the same time.

It was then that she was aware that she was still standing in the doorway, and decided she’d better sit down. Now the question was, sit down besides her crush, or take the safe choice and sit by her friend?

She chickened out, and decided to sit next to Sasuka instead. Then, she responded to him, “Um… Good morning Souretsu, and uh, thanks… you know, about the name.”

“No problem,” he replied, giving her a small smile before continuing on his sandwich. “Although I’m sure I’m not the first person to compliment you.”

“I think you’re the first to compliment me on my name…” she spoke, before starting on her food as well, since she was having a hard time looking at him. He smiled too much! And his smile just made her turn into a puddle, a puddle that couldn’t form a coherent sentence to save her life.

Sasuka was trying to stay relatively quiet, but she was starting to get frustrated when neither of them would say anything! Well she expected this from someone like Enka, but why was usually so social Souretsu so quiet?

“So Enka…” he finally spoke. “What’s it like working your own department, pretty much being your own boss?”

“…More work than it sounds,” she sighed. “You work almost all the time, and yet you never have anyone to work with to pass the time.”

The petite goddess wanted to shake her best friend and scream, ‘Stop sounding so depressed! Guys hate that!’

“Well, working around here is fun, isn’t it Sasuka?” Souretsu said, trying to get the other girl in the conversation.

“Oh yeah, the people around here are crazy! And Netami is just the king of mellow-drama, always freaking out about something,” she giggled, while inwardly swearing she was going to have to fix her friend’s social habits sooner than later.

“You like Souretsu, don’t you?” Sasuka later confronted Enka.

“Well I barely know him but… he’s very handsome, and has the most wonderful voice I’ve ever seen. And his eyes are the most gorgeous eyes I’ve ever stared into so… yes I like him I suppose,” Enka confessed, reluctantly.

“I just wanted to let you know… that if you continue to talk to him the way you did today, you’ll never win him! Rule one: don’t talk about things negatively with him, it’ll make you sound like a complainer that’s never satisfied. When you mentioned your job you sounded depressed!” the woman scolded her friend. Rule two: if you can say all that stuff about his eyes and voice and whatnot, compliment him on it! No reason he shouldn’t know you think he’s gorgeous, just go about it little by little.”

Suddenly, Enka found herself in a crash-course on love, taught by her one and only best friend.

“Basically, think about what you would like a guy to say to you, and say it to him, within reason of course. And one more thing: you are going to totally have to stop dressing so conservative like an old woman! He can’t get a look at the ‘goods’ if you’re hiding them. Wear shorter skirts that’ll show off your long sexy legs, and for gosh sakes stop trying to hide your boobs so much, men actually like those!”

“But Sasuka, I’d feel like be portraying myself as a whore by showing off my chest and legs like that…”

“There’s a difference between whore and having sex appeal. Just ask my friends Kanashii and Kiku to help you out, they know how to dress and act cute without being whores, trust me,”

So that weekend, Sasuka arranged for Kanashii and Kiku to come to Enka’s house, and when the two women surprised the shy girl by showing up at her house, she knew she was in trouble.

“White-white-white-white-white!” Kiku screamed when she went through Enka’s closet. “Why the fuck do you wear so much white? I know we’re angels but good lord… And either way white is about your worst color of choice regardless.”

“…Why?” Enka questioned.

“Ok honestly, when we look at you we see a girl with very light peach skin, light grey eyes, and near-white platinum blonde hair. Your features are beautiful, but they don’t really scream any major color except white, and adding white clothing is only going to make you look like a ghost and as a result, not stand out,” Kanashii explained, displaying her fashion expertise.

“So… I will be throwing away about ninety percent of your clothes, only the ones I deem pretty enough are staying. And we will take you to buy some more colorful clothes. I think you might look pretty in blue…” Kiku stated, tearing through the woman’s closet.

“And what about these pants and skirts you have? The skirts are so long, no modern woman wears a skirt this long, unless you’re going to a funeral perhaps. And these pants don’t hug your gorgeous model legs either, you need some skinny jeans or something…” Kanashii suggested. “And maybe some cute heels as well, instead of these grandma shoes. Who taught you how to shop?”

“Well no one really…” Enka sighed. “My mother bought most of my clothes when I was living with her, and afterwards well I didn’t really know about much to buy so I pretty much stuck to the same thing.”

“And apparently that thing was white tops, and black bottoms that make you look like you have no ass,” Kiku laughed.

Kanashii and Kiku were pretty much all over the place, and it was making Enka worried. “Do you think Souretsu has a bad first impression of me?

“I doubt it, you’re still pretty regardless. We’re just enhancing what you were born with and showing off your good points, that’s all. So if he liked you before, then next time he sees you he’ll be all like wow…” Kiku spoke.

After the two women got through getting rid of nearly everything in her closet, including her shoes, Kanashii brought up another point. “If you and Souretsu so happen to become a couple, do you have any sexy underwear or sleepwear or anything?”

“Well… not really. I just have plain old bras and panties, since I never figured I needed any fancy looking ones…” Enka explained. “As as far as sleepwear, I usually just sleep in a t-shirt and sweatpants or something.”

“Enka… you do not have a sexy bone in your body…” Kiku sighed heavily. “But don’t worry, we’ll fix it! We have all day and your credit card, so lets drop these old clothes off at the goodwill so we can get shopping!”

Next Monday, the grey-eyed woman set foot in the department of emotions yet again because Sasuka insisted on having lunch with her again while on her break.

“Look at you, aren’t you just gorgeous?” Sasuka exclaimed, grinning wide. “I knew they’d do a good job on you, and help reveal the pretty girl I know. Now lets head to the break room, I ordered Italian this time.”

The little woman lead her ironically tall friend into the break room again, where not-as-surprisingly this time Souretsu was in there as well, eating his own lunch.

“Wait here Enky, I forgot something,” Sasuka lied, trying to leave the two alone.

“What did you forget?” Enka asked, suspicious of her friend.

“I kinda forgot to order the food,” she giggled, before making a motion of smacking her forehead as though it really was an accident, before scrambling out the room.

“Good morning Miss Enka,” Souretsu greeted, just like he had before.

“Good morning… Mister Souretsu,” she replied, playing along.

This was the first time she noticed him looking her up and down approvingly. His eyes first looked at her face, which was adorning make-up for the first time. Nothing too extravagant, just some pink lip gloss, gold eye shadow that wasn’t too noticeable, and a little bit of blush to add some color to her light skin. Then his eyes traveled down to her turquoise blue blouse that was slightly ruffled around the collar and such, and then he realized his eyes fell to her chest, the chest that was a lot bigger than he thought, considering it was covered with a black vest last time he saw her. Finally forcing his perverted self to stop looking at her chest before she noticed, he looked at her black skirt that came down a little above her knees, and showed her long legs (well she was pretty tall.) Finally, she was wearing some simple black heels and her toenails were polished the same blue as her shirt. Overall, she was gorgeous and sexy, and he felt as though his eyes were deceiving him because last time she looked so plain! Sure he thought she was pretty before but now… he had a beautiful body to put on that pretty face.

“You know…” he finally said at last. “You don’t have to call me Mr. Souretsu, I just like calling you Miss Enka for some reason. The miss kinda accents your name with an air of a rich, fancy lady. You seem like the kind of lady I’d see walking in the park with her sundress and parasol while walking a small dog or pushing a stroller.”

“I can’t imagine why I’d have a stroller…” she laughed. “After all, I have no one I should be pregnant by. I don’t have a husband or a boyfriend.”

“Well that’s a wonder. You think someone would’ve just snatched a girl like you right up, and you’re a goddess too?”

“I know, right? Well what about you, do you have a girlfriend?” she asked, anticipating the man’s answer.

“No, I’ve been single for a couple of years now, go figure. I’m a little rusty on the whole dating thing…”

“I’ve never had any experience with it, considering I never went to a public high school or anything like that,”

“Well, I may be rusty on the dating thing, but that doesn’t mean I can’t teach you a little of what I know,” he remarked, patting the seat beside him.

She sat down beside him, before asking, “So what’s the first piece of advice?”

“Well, let’s consider this a bit of a pop quiz: when I ask you are you busy this Friday, you say…?”

“No, I’m not busy this Friday at all,” she replied, smiling.

“Alright. So if I ask if you would mind going out to dinner together, you would say…”

“I would be delighted to go out to dinner with you,”

“…Congratulations, I think you just passed your first pop quiz,”
