Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ The Story of the Age's ❯ Chapter 1
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
My grandmother told me many stories as a child. Many of them ended with the typical `happily ever after', but not all. She told me not to be fooled.
“Not every story ends that way, for fate is not always nice, it can be cruel. Destiny does not always run in a line, it can twist and turn to no end.”
This is what she told me on one of the many cold winter days I spent with her. At the time I was too young to pay her any mind, my young head was filled to the brim with the 'Happily ever afters'. It could hold nothing else, and so I remained oblivious to the more cruel aspects of life. Sadly everything changes at some point. Little children grow up and learn what real life holds in store for them. As I grew older I started to realize the wisdom my grandmother passed on to me in her many stories. She was preparing me for my future.
My future would be like that of my mother and grandmother. My marriage would be one to secure an alliance with a neighboring lord. My father was no king but he watched over a large area, and under him all knew peace and tranquility. There was peace between my father and the lords around us. I wasn't necessarily pleased about my future but I would do as my father said.
Growing up my childhood was pleasant enough, we weren't overly wealthy but neither were we poor. My sisters, of which there were four, and I learned how to sew and embroider, we learned proper manners and everything that entailed being a proper lady. Everything changed once we were outside and out from under our mothers watchful eye, or so we thought. Mothers have a way of knowing everything you do. Our older brothers delighted in teaching us things that others would scorn us for. We learned how to fight with small knives, neither brother would let us near a sword or distaff. They taught us how to survive off the forest should we ever become lost. Many of the villagers contributed towards our education, teaching us how to thatch a roof or plow a field. In time we realized that our mother knew full well what we were up to and then we started to tell her everything that we learned on that particular day. She started to teach us how to mix medicines and even let us help when some villagers were injured in a fire.
Childhood was a lovely time all in all, but everyone has to grow up. One by one my sisters grew up, married and left to live with there husbands. It was lonely at first but I grew used to it, it helped that my brother's wives welcomed me and kept me company. Several more years passed until it was my fourteenth birthday. That day my life changed drastically. That was the day the Age's came for me.
