Boris's hands bit into his knees as Hailey hands went to work on him, but not once did he move.

"What happened?" Maven said as he closed his eyes and relaxed on her lap.

"What happened was that we made the mistake of trusting you," Sven muttered. "All you had to do was watch the camp, then wake one of us when you were about to fall asleep. You failed that and we nearly died."

"It was my fault too!" Skyla yelled. "And you shouldn't be so mad! He save us!"

"Skyla..." Lana said softly and pat her on the shoulder. "It's alright." Skyla looked like she was going to cry.

"Look, if you are going to do watch, how about doing it instead of your girlfriend. That way we don't get fucked up," Evana groaned.

"I think maybe you two shouldn't be taking watches together anymore," Maverick said.

"Fuck that. I'm not going to let either of them take a watch. They both fell asleep and cause of that we're going to get slowed down. This is why it's easier to travel by yourself. You don't have to worry if other people mess up."

"Amen to that," Sarah muttered as she grabbed some of the Raider's guns and looked them over.

Maven fell silent after that. He wanted to get up, but he felt sick, so instead he just closed his eyes and rolled over on her lap.

"You are such a whiner, Sven. Why don't you stick your dick in your mouth and shut up for once. Always talking," Evana said and rolled her eyes.

"Watch your mouth. There are children," Maverick warned.

"You know I could always stick it in yours. At least you could do some good. You certainly weren't doing anything during the fight," he growled.

Before Evana could get to him, Hailey threw a pin at him, hitting him in the chest. He hit the ground like a rock. "Time out!" Maverick laughed.

Sarah snickered and poked him with her foot. "Oh, this could be fun," she teased.

Hailey walked over and sat on his chest. "If I let you up will you be a good boy and be nice?"

Sven glared at her. If she wasn't a little girl he'd probably shoot her. Even now he was strongly considering it.

She patted his cheek. "Good!" Plucking the pin from him, she rubbed the spot on his chest. "Better?"

"Don't ever do that again," he said as he looked up at. "Do you understand?"

She held up the pin as she sat on his chest and looked at him harshly. "I will do it again if you are going to be mean to me!"

He groaned and rolled his eyes. He picked her up and moved her off of him so that he could sit up. "I wasn't being mean, I was just telling you to never do that again."

"No one tells me what to do," she said coldly. She then smiled and ran over to her bag. After cleaning everything she put it away and held her arms up at Boris. "Up!"

Boris knelt down and lifted up, holding her while she nuzzled his chest. Only Sven had heard her dark threat, and no one else seemed the least bit fazed. He shuddered and grabbed a cigarette. Something about that little girl was creepy.

"Well, we mind as well start out," Evana said as she started packing.

"It will be morning very soon. We could use the head start and day light," Maverick added.

Skyla helped Maven up and Lana went to pack her things.

Maven grabbed his bags and whistled for Zenith. She landed on his shoulder and nuzzled him as he helped the others finish taking down their camp. Within a few minutes, they were all packed up and ready to get back on the road.

"It will be noon by the time we make it to the base. That's if we don't have any more accidents along the way."

"Keep being grumpy and the child will knock you on your ass again," Evana smirked as Hailey looked over Boris's shoulder at Sven.

Lana walked next to Maverick and she went on to thank him for looking after her when the Raiders showed. She blushed with every word, but she found him a mentor. Skyla and Maven walked behind everyone, mostly because Skyla walked slow on purpose. She wanted to get a few feet from them. Slowly she took Maven's hand.

"You saved me back there, Maven. You saved all of us," she said softly. Leaning over her lips pressed to his cheek. She pulled back and locked her eyes on him. "I owe my life to you."

Maven blushed as his eyes met her's. "I don't...I don't really remember what happened back there," he admitted. "I'm just glad that everyone is alright. That you...are alright. You don't owe me anything, Skyla."

"Whether you remember it or not, you saved us. And I owe you everything. I promise to you that from this day forward, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure you know it."

He looked at her, wondering what she meant by that.

Her fingers intertwined with his. As they walked. She smiled softly.

He looked down at their hands and then up at the others who were still bickering about something. This was the second day of their journey. They'd already almost died twice. Could they really survive to finish this quest? Or was it a suicide mission?

"I'm telling you, Paradise has better women," Sven argued as he and Maverick conversed about the fairer sex.

"Are women all you think about?" Maverick asked.

"No, sometimes he takes it up the ass I'm sure. Which is where he gets the whining from," Evana said.

Lana snickered on the other side of Maverick.

"Please. You wish I did so that you could have both me and Maverick at the same time," Sven smirked.

"Neither of you are my time, no offense, Maverick."

"None taken. I'm happy with the only girl I have in my life," he said happily.

"You miss her?" Lana asked. He nodded.

"So, what exactly inspired you to have a kid with the world like this," Sarah asked. "I mean, I'm find going toe to toe with Raiders, but I'm not brave enough to raise a kid in this wasteland."

"I was in love with this young woman not too long ago. But she didn't love me. It was just a fling to her. I showered her in gifts but eventually she left. A few months later she showed up at my door telling me she was pregnant with my child and she was getting it aborted at a back alley doctor office since abortions are against the law with the large decrease in babies being born," he explained. "I begged her not to go through with it and ended up paying her an lot of money. She stayed in my house and I kept her happy until Angelia was born. A few days later she was gone and Angelia was motherless. I loved her from the moment I saw her so there was no way in hell I was just going to give her to an orphanage. I might have lost the girl I was in love with but I gained something even more precious so I can't complain."

"I can't imagine a mother skipping out on her child," Evana said. "I mean, I'm not even that cruel."

"Did you ever see her again?"

"No. She took the money I promised her then skipped town. Honestly, I don't care what happens to her. As long as Angelia is safe and has everything she needs, I'm a happy man," he said with a smile towards Lana.

Lana looked away with a blush.

Sarah nodded slowly. "There are few men like you, Maverick. The wastes have turned most men into pigs and jerks like Sven." As she said this she whacked him upside the head.

"Yeah, it's a little refreshing to know that men like you are still out there. What about you, Boris? I hear you talk of Sasha."

Boris looked down at Hailey who was asleep in his arms. "Sasha was the most precious thing in my life. Every time I close my eyes I see her smiling face. Then I see blood. She and my wife...." He shook his head slowly. "You'll have to excuse me. I still do not find it easy to talk about."

"Oh...I'm sorry...I didn't know," Evana said.

"You don't have to talk about it," Lana said softly.

"It's alright," he assured them. "It's just that...no parent should have to bury their child."

"Yeah..." Evana whispered.

"So what about you Lana? You are so young and yet you are here. What about your parents?"

"Um...my parents were killed by Raiders when I was really little," she said. "So I really don't know much about them."

"Well, who takes care of you?"

"I take care of myself. The village I'm from lets me do odd jobs to get food or water. It's hard work, but I'm faster and strong than the men so it's not so bad," she said with a small smile. "Besides, this is the most I've ever really done. I've always thought there was more to life then waking up, working and going to sleep to do it all over again. Even if I don't come back alive...it's still worth it."

"That's a good way to look at things," Sven said while checking his com data. "Live life to the fullest regardless of the risks. Too many people die early for stupid reasons. You might as well enjoy the time you have."

She nodded with a smile. Maverick patted her back and she blushed.

"So what exactly are we going to do about the love birds back there?" Sarah asked. "We can't trust them to watch camp, and unless bird boy goes all possessed demon again then they're practically useless in combat."

"Whether we like it or not, we need flower child. Even if it's bits and pieces of the future that she can see, it's still very useful," Evana sighed.

"I believe Maven has a lot to learn but when he does learn it, he will be of great use in the future. We can only hope it's not too late by then," Maverick added.

"We could always just make a rule about relations in the group. At least then we can know for sure that they won't be fucking on the job."

"We can't do that!" Lana said quickly. Everyone turned to her and she blushed. "It's just...I mean...well...we might be stuck with each other for a while...and well..." she said nervously.

"Lana's right," Maverick said and Lana took a deep breath. "Making that kind of rule would only cause more damage. They will just sneak around behind our back and we really need to rely on our trust otherwise we won't survive for very long."

"Trust?" Sven stopped to look at them. "Listen, guys, I'm going to be straight with you. I'm in this for the money. I wouldn't take a bullet for any of you, and I wouldn't expect you to do the same for me. We're together because some brainy guy thought we should. It's nothing personal, it's just business."

Evana laughed. "No one was talking to you. We all equally hate you."

Sven just tipped his hat and smirked. "Good. Then the feeling is mutual."

Maverick smirked. "I'll remember that when a skag has your leg in it's mouth and you call for help."

Evana laughed. "I am going to take pictures."

Sven rolled his eyes. "I wouldn't mind taking a few pictures of you. It would keep me warm on lonely nights."

"Look as much as you want," Evan said as she ran her hands over her tight dress. "But I'm way out of your league."

Maverick covered Lana's eyes. "Can we keep this PG at least?"

Sven wrapped his arm around her and suddenly pulled her against him. "You really think so? I could probably teach you a thing or two."

She kneed him in the crotch and watching him fall to the ground. Flipping her shoulder length, black hair she smirked. "Keep me in your dreams. But touch me again and you won't have a head to dream with," she said and continued to walk.

"I like them...feisty," he said in between moans of pain.

"Dick," she spat.

Maverick sighed and lowered his hand from Lana who was blushing as always. "You are too young to be around such types."

"Seventeen isn't that young..." she said softly.

"What did we miss?" Maven asked as he looked down at Sven who was cursing in some language and holding his crotch. Super strength plus balls was not a good combination.

"You...don't want to know...." Skyla said as she pulled him along.

"What? Why?"

"Because...some things shouldn't be said," she said with a soft blush.

He looked at her curiously. "If you say so. I guess..."

She flashed him a smile to ease his heart.

His face softened and he nodded. "So...when you see the future, what happens? Does it just come in random images or flashes and signs?"

"Depends. Sometimes I see it like I see the past of people, like a mini movie and sometimes I just see it like a picture," she said as they walked. "I'm still playing around with it. I still have a lot to work on before I can get where I'm happy."

He nodded slowly. "I think it's cool that you can see the past and future. I mean, that's pretty awesome. Not to mention the fact that you can talk to animals. Even animals as annoying as Zenith." He still hadn't forgiven her for last night.

She looked at him. "I think it's pretty cool you are telekinetic."

He shrugged. "It's okay as long as what I move is small. Moving heavy objects makes it feel like tiny pins are picking at my brain."

"I know the feeling. When I try to force myself to see the future, I feel like that. If I push myself too hard, I black out just like you did today."

"I guess we have more in common that I thought."

"Why do you think I'm always around you?" she smiled. "You didn't think it was just because I think you are cute, did you?"

"Honestly, no," he said with a small laugh, his cheeks burning at the way she looked at him.

"Then what did you think?"

He shrugged. "I guess I thought that you might like my company."

She tapped his nose. "Correct!"

He rubbed his nose and frowned. Zenith flew down and picked his head. "Ow! Hey, what was that for?"

She laughed. "She thinks you are very slow. She says for your age you shouldn't be so shy and reserved."

He rolled his eyes. "I'm not shy. Reserved maybe, but that's not a bad thing. Better to be reserved than to be well...unreserved."

"Why is that?"
