Sven whimpered outside the door. He'd just lost the only two girls he'd actually bang in one fell swoop. "This sucks...."

Skyla looked down at him with an apple in her hand. "What sucks?" she asked innocently as she took a bite and offered him some.

Sven looked up at her and sighed.
"Nothing."

She sat down next to him and pressed her back to the door with him. "Doesn't seem like nothing," she said and offered him some of the apple again.

"I'm good; and it's just that I think the two girls I was likely to screw around with have just become lesbians."

She looked him in the eyes. "Well...it's not like you loved them." She bit her apple. "We both know neither of them hold a special place in your heart, Sven."

"No, but they were both good screws. Who knows. Evana might have been the one," he smirked.

She sighed.
"She's not the one. And you know why."

Sven looked at her and his eyes narrowed. "I know you can't exactly control your powers, but I'd prefer if you kept from looking in my past."

"I don't get a choice in the matter. The moment I laid eyes on you it was registered in my brain as if they were my memories. Whether I want to or not, I know just about everything about you and the others," she said softly as she looked down at her apple.

"That's got to get confusing. Though for the record, I wouldn't exactly bring up anyone's past. They won't exactly like the fact that you know their past. Too many skeletons in their closet."

"I get very confusing and sometimes I find myself crying over a lost love that was never mine," she said. She looked over at him. "Don't worry, Sven. I don't share anyone's past without permission and I don't open my mouth about their past to them unless I feel it necessary."

"That's a good policy. Stick to it and you might just make it out alive."

"If it is my time to go, I will not bargain to gain more time. I'm fine with knowing that I eventually have to die whether it be painful and long or short and sweet."

He smirked at that. "Not me. I plan to live forever."

She smiled. "Then don't let anyone tell you it's not possible."

"I won't. Hopefully by the end of this holy crusade I'll find what I'm looking for."

She nodded. "I'm sure you will." She stood and placed her hand on his shoulder. "You can say that you won't take a bullet for any of us or that we mean nothing to you...but we both know the extent you will go to in order to save a life, even if you don't know them. But if you want to play like you are hard, I'll keep your secret." She smiled. "And just so you know, I'd take a bullet for you too." She took a bite from her apple and walked back outside. She looked at Hailey and Boris having a pretend tea party before climbing back in her tree.

Sven rolled his eyes as she walked away.
"Bite your tongue pretty boy," he said as he looked down the hallway to Maverick.

Maverick only smiled. He held his hands up in defense.
"I won't tell anyone you love us." Behind him there was a giggle where Lana stood, trying not to let Sven know she too had heard.

"Please. I couldn't care less about any of you. The girl is obviously off her rocker." He stood and glanced at them with a hard glare. "I'm here for money and immortality. Not friendships and love. I'll leave that to you two."

Maverick continued to smile. "Don't be so cruel to your family, Sven. Wouldn't want to lose us in a fight and break your heart."

"Listen knife boy, don't press me. I'm in a bad enough mood as it is," he muttered.

"Pretty boy? Knife boy? How about my name? Works a lot better when you want something done."

Sven smirked. "I'll call you by your name when I respect you enough to do so."

"And I'll start taking orders from you when you get morals and admit that you love us."

"Well then, it seems that you're stuck with nicknames and I'm stuck wanting desperately to shoot you."

"Shoot all you want, you won't hit me," he smiled. "Lana, care to accompany for a walk?" She nodded quickly.

"Right. See you love birds later."

Maverick waved and held out his arm for Lana. Hesitantly, she took it with a soft blush and walked out with him.

Sven just rolled his eyes. All these mushy people were starting to get on his nerves. He needed a drink.

Lana looked up at Maverick as they walked on the city streets. She moved closer to him since it was getting dark. "Don't worry. I won't let anything happen to you," he assured her.

She swallowed hard. "I...I really like you, Maverick," she whispered.

"I know," he said and patted her hand on his arm.

She met his eyes as she blushed. "W-what?"

"You are a very sweet girl and I enjoy your company, but you are much too young for me," he said softly.

"I'm not innocent," she said quickly.

He stopped and looked at her. "What do you mean?"

"I-I mean....I'm not as innocent as you think..." she said as she played with her hands. He looked her over trying to understand. "I'm not a virgin..."

His lips tightened. "I see..."

"But you treat me like a child...and I'm not..." she said. "Even if I've only done it once and it was awkward and quick, it still counted."

He sighed then smiled. "Yes it counted. I suppose I have been treating you unfairly like a child. I will try to remember that you are a woman." She smiled. "But," he lifted her chin, "you are still too young for me."

Boris tried his best not to break the tiny cups. Where Xavier had even gotten such utensils was beyond him. The tiny cookies were a nice touch though. Of course it took four or five of them just to equal one real cookie. Even so, Hailey was enjoying herself and that was all that really mattered. "May I have some more tea?"

"Yes you may," she said sweetly and poured him some more. "Nanny Doc says manners are very important in the world. And a lady should always use her manners no matter what," she smiled as she placed her napkin on her lap.

"That is very true, and you are going to be a wonderful lady when you get older," he said with a smile."May I have a cookie?" Maven had come out of his hiding spot, and upon seeing the impromptu tea party, he couldn't help but be lured in by its childlike innocence.

"You have to sit down and join us," she said and pulled out the chair for him. "Princess Skyla! Come down from the tower! Prince Maven has joined!" she called. Skyla jumped down from the tree. She did a curtsy then Hailey returned it with a giggle. Skyla sat down as more tea was poured.

"Why thank you, Hailey," she said and sipped lightly.

"You are very welcome!" She passed a cookie to Maven. "I invited Mr. Xavier, but he doesn't want to play with me..." she said sadly. "Nanny Doc would have played. I was going to marry him."

"Would he be Nanny Xavier now?" Maven asked while nibbling on his cookie.

"Mr. Xavier is not my Nanny. He stays in his room and tells me when to eat and when to sleep and where to go and what to do," she snapped. "He is not my Nanny!" Skyla placed her hand on Hailey's. Hailey let out at small sigh.

"It's ok to miss him," she said softly. "It's ok to still love him and to wish he were here. And it's ok that Xavier is not him. No one will love you like Nanny Doc but you should let Xavier try."

Hailey pouted. "But he doesn't know any of the songs! And he doesn't play with me! And he doesn't know anything about me!" Her eyes grew dark. "I hate him..."

"What would Nanny Doc say if he heard you say that?"

Hailey's face softened. "'Hailey, doll, we do not hate anyone. We are the bigger person and learn to deal,'" she said in her best manly voice. She then smiled. "Nanny Doc is so smart. He told me to go to Mr. Xavier."

"If he told you to go to Xavier, then he must trust Xavier to look after you," Boris said softly.

"He told me that I would be safe here...but he didn't say I would be very happy..."

"Xavier doesn't seem like a bad guy. Maybe if you told him that you didn't want to be ignored he would pay more attention to you. I mean, he did have this tea party stuff here for you, didn't he? So he must have been expecting to spend time with you."

She threw her tea cup at him. She then stood and flipped the whole table breaking the glasses. "I did not ask to be here! I want to go home!" she screamed and ran inside.

"Hailey!" Skyla called after her.

"And just where are you going in such a hurry?" Xavier asked with a smile, seeing the entire thing over his many camera.

She pushed at him. "You are not my Nanny!"

Xavier easily knelt down and picked her up into his arms. "You're right," he told her as he stared into her face. "But I would like to be."

Her lip quivered. "I don't know you..."

Xavier rubbed her nose like Doc would. "Do you want to get to know me?"

Little tears trickled down her cheeks and she put her little hand on her nose. Slowly she nodded.

"Okay then." He carried her to his room and sat down in the big chair in front of his computers. Sitting her on his lap, he pulled up a myriad of pictures and stories about him and Doc so that she could read and see them grow up.

Hailey's little hands touched the screens as Doc came up in the pictures. She missed him terribly. For a long time she cried until Xavier started telling her the stories. She sat in his lap and quietly listened while the pictures flashed on the screen.

Skyla gathered the broken pieces of glass and used her dress as a basket to hold them. She looked up at Boris. Pausing for a second, she leaned over and kissed his cheek as she noticed the sad look on his face. Patting his heart lightly, she continued to pick up the pieces.

"Here," Maven said. Holding out his hand, the remaining shards rose to the air and moved into her dress with the others. He looked over at Boris, whose face was that of sadness and heartache. He rose without a word and started walking the perimeter of the house. "I bet he feels like he just lost his daughter all over again...."

"It's a lot harder for him then you think," she said as tears streaked down her face. She could see Sasha's face in her head, her lifeless little body covered in blood. Standing she walked over to the trashcan and dumped the glass.

"I can only imagine what he's feeling...and even then I'm certain it doesn't compare." He had tried to kill himself over a lost loved. This was his daughter....

Skyla wiped her eyes. She only nodded at him.

Maven reached out and wrapped his arms around her. "Boris is a strong man with a big heart. He'll be alright," he promised.

"Their faces...his wife and child...they linger in my head. Sometimes it's hard to believe that they are not my memories...that they were not my family and my hands holding their bodies close..." she said against his shoulder.

There was a pause as he heard this. Never before had he considered what it was like to actually have these people's memories in her head. "Is there any way for you to block out his memories?"

"It's not so easy...I've told you before...I haven't mastered my power yet... It's a lot easier when I'm alone in my forest," she said.

He nodded slowly. "I guess the memories of animals aren't as complex and emotional as ours are...."

"Simple, short, and calming," she whispered. Her eyes closed. He was like her cure. With his arms around her, everything else melted. All the memories, all the worry or confusion. She was just the normal Skyla. Her hands fisted on his shirt, and she took in his body heat. What was it about him that made her feel so complete? Her face nuzzled his neck, trying hard to remember that Zenith wasn't far.

"Relax," he whispered softly in her ear. "Just listen to my voice and try to think of only it." He'd read that in a book one time. It was about hypnosis. He'd tried to hypnotize himself into remembering his past. Needless to say it failed miserably, but maybe it would work for her.

She did as he said, listening to him. Flashes of Farrah played in her head and for a moment, she felt she was Farrah, but it was only for that one moment. Her eyes snapped open and she slowly pulled from him. "I...think I want an apple," she said and started inside.

Maven watched her leave, wondering what he had done wrong to suddenly make her go. Zenith circled over head and finally landed on his shoulder. "Women are...confusing," he sighed as he stroked her. "Maybe it's just my lack of memories that makes her hard to understand."

Zenith fluffed and he could have sworn that she was laughing at him.

Those few days they spent in Xavier's house seemed to go by with a flashing. Interesting enough, Sarah and Evana hardly left the room. Skyla left tea for Maven, but didn't sleep with him again. She spent the nights awake and some of the day sleeping in the tree. Hailey stayed with Xavier, sleeping on his bed but occasionally went to Boris to play. Lana and Maven talked, but much to Lana's despair, that was all they ever did. Sven spent time drinking, smoking, and shooting random things.

On the day it was time to leave again, Hailey slept in Boris's arms while the others yawned and carried their bags. Skyla seemed like the walking dead. She didn't sleep that night and usually she would be in the tree at this time, but now she was running on what sleep she had gotten the day before.

They were quiet, each consumed with their own thoughts. It was hard for them to talk, both because they didn't want to and because they were being weighed down by their own emotional baggage. They had entered this as strangers, but in the short time already feelings were starting to form. That was the problem when you stayed with people too long. Eventually you started to care about their well being. "I can't believe we've got to go all the way to the middle of nowhere again," Sarah muttered, smirking as she stared at Evana's ass as they walked.

"I swear to god if we've got to come all the way back here I'm going to put a bullet in Xavier's head. The least he could have done was try to get us a vehicle for this stupid mission. I mean, he's got us going to the D.C. ruins. The fucking Library of Congress.... That place is Raider central! Not to mention the military is still strong there and the fucking mutants." At the thought of that he checked his ammo reserves. That was all they needed was for them to run out of ammo.

"When we get into D.C., I figure we'll cut through the memorial grounds for the Xenomorph massacre. Not even the mutants and Raiders go there. If we stay along that path we can go through abandoned buildings. God help us if we get caught out in the streets."

"Let's hope our oracle will be able to give us a heads up if something is about to go down," Evana said. She looked back to see Skyla nodded off as she walked. "If she doesn't pass out first." She looked at Sarah and noticed her smirk. Reaching back, she grabbed her hand and pulled her to stand beside her, giving her ass a soft massage in the process.

Lana yawned. "I hate getting up this early," she said and leaned against Maverick's arm. He took off his jacket and put it on her then scooped her up. "You...didn't have to do that...." she whispered.

"I'm wide awake. I don't want you falling asleep while we are walking and hurt yourself," he said. Even though he had told her she was too young for him, he made a promise to keep her safe.

Sarah smiled as she held onto Evana's hand. God if there weren't people around what she would do to her. Though this was suppose to be strictly no strings attached, she couldn't help but notice the way that Evana played with her hand as they walked. Shaking that thought from her mind, she looked back at their 'oracle'. "She does look dead on her feet. Were you 'busy' last night?" She teased as she looked over at Maven.

The boy just rolled his eyes, raising his arm so that Zenith could take off and scout ahead for them. He didn't even bother to respond to her accusations for fear of getting angry again. He slowly fell back to keep pace with Skyla. "Did you not sleep well?" He hid the concern in his voice so the others wouldn't hear, but his eyes told a drastically different story.

Skyla looked over at Maven. "Um..." What did he say? She thought a moment then yawned. "I didn't sleep."

"Why not?"

"Knife boy, can I speak to you for a moment?" Sven asked, nodding for them to go ahead of the others so that they could talk in private. Maverick followed Sven as Lana drifted off to sleep in his arms. "This area we're going to is known as Death Valley. You've got three factions gunning for control, and they'll kill whoever gets caught in the cross fire. Should anything happen and we get separated, die, or whatever here's a copy of the files we gotta take. Cause if I manage to lose you suckers I'm not coming back."

Maverick took the copy and slipped it in his pocket while trying to juggle Lana. "Do what you want, Sven."
Sven just nodded while grabbing a cigarette. "That's what I'm best at."
Skyla stumbled over a rock. "Um...I don't sleep good in a bed. And it's too dangerous to go outside alone at night so I wait to sleep in the tree in the morning," she said. Reaching in her bag, she pulled out a cookie she had made the day before out of some herbs she had for energy.
