"Just wait. If you're lucky we can go to the war memorial. That's about twenty times the size of this one. Of course it doesn't have every name listed. Too many to count. But it does have records of all the bombs names."

Lana reached over and took Maverick's hand as she stepped over bodies. Maverick stopped walking and crouched down. Blushing, Lana crawled on his back and he lifted her up so she wouldn't have to walk around bodies. Behind them, Skyla walked behind Maven, glued to his back, her head buried in his back so she wouldn't have to see the bodies. Lucky for her, dead bodies had no souls for her to look into and see the past. Although Hailey was the youngest, she hopped across dead bodies like a game. She sung a soft song, then hopped over a head or arm and gave herself ten points.

"Look!" she laughed and picked up a gold piece off a body. "I found a shiny!"

Boris took the shiny piece from her and wiped it off on his shirt. "Be careful with that. You don't know where it's been," he laughed.

"Don't worry! I won't put it in my mouth!" she assured him. She walked along and randomly picked up things here and there to examine them then throw them down and continue with her game.

"If you do put something in your mouth, make sure it's a grenade. Those taste like happy," Sven teased.

She turned to him, her eyes piercing and cold. "Cruel people are the ones that die first," she said then smiled and continued with her game.

"Perhaps. Perhaps not. I think there's a witch somewhere that would love to turn you into a stew."

She turned around and in a flash he was on the ground unable to move. Her pin was in his chest and dust scattered about him as he hit the ground. Her eyes were hard. "People like you give a reason for people like me to kill."

Maverick's eyes grew wide and Lana looked over his shoulder, jaw dropped. Evana was a little afraid to say anything. How could something like that come out of someone so cute?

"And people like me give you cookies," Boris said, completely unfazed by her little outburst. He picked her up and tickled her stomach, seemingly not even noticing her dark words of doom.

Sven glared up at her. He tried to roll his eyes, but he couldn't even do that.

She giggled and laughed as Boris tickled her. She had no plan to take the pin out of Sven. Reaching into his pack, he handed her the cookie, showering her forehead in kisses while he cradled her.

Sven tried to yell, but all he could mutter was a slow moan. She was so getting poisoned tonight.

No one else moved to help him, Maverick stepped right over him and continued on while Lana looked back at Sven from Maverick's back. Hailey munched on the cookie happily, completely forgetting her anger.

Maven stopped to look down at him as the others left him. He sighed and reached down to pull the pin out. "I think you ought to be nicer to her," he said as he pulled it out."And I think she should be fed to wild skags," he growled.

"She won't hesitate to kill you," Skyla said from behind Maven. "She's killed for much less than someone picking on her. And she won't do it honorably. She will wait until you are vulnerable and take you out before you have a chance to know what happened."

"She's just a little girl. One who needs to know how to mind her manner and respect her elders."

"Little girl or not, she will kill you."

"She can try. But she won't succeed."

"I wouldn't bet your life on that," she said softly and urged Maven forward.

He ran his hand over his chest, hating how such a small girl could suddenly make him feel so powerless. It sucked. Once they got through the memorial he nodded to Maverick. "Okay. Let's take point knife boy." He stopped and smirked. "Point. Knife boy. I crack myself up."

"Yes, you are hilarious," Maverick said, unfazed as he gently set Lana on her feet her turned to her. "Keep a good look out for what we don't see. If anything should happen, I will find you." She nodded and he walked off.

"I guess that makes you de facto leader while they're gone," Sarah said as she looked at Evanna.

Evana looked at Boris. "Why? Boris is much more qualified."

"Me? All I do is smash things and carry Hailey," he laughed.

"Yes, well, I break the rules what makes you think I'm good at barking orders?"

"The fact that I can't shoot, Hailey is too young, Boris has his hands full, and would you really want to take orders from bird boy or Skyla?"

"I'm still here. Just because I don't say much doesn't mean I don't listen," Lana said crossing her arms. How could she forget her?

Evana rolled her eyes. "Fine, whatever."

Sarah smirked and rolled her eyes. "Good. Now be a good leader to make up for you breaking my hand."

"Blah blah, just started walking and Lana keep an eye out. I find it stupid that they left the girl with the perfect vision behind but since you are here, make sure to pay close attention to anything and everything we most likely can't see. Skyla, keep your mind open and do you best to see if you can let us know before we get attacked if it's about to happen. Hailey, try to keep it down, sweetie."

Hailey saluted to her and smiled. "Yes, Captain!" Evana put her finger over her mouth and Hailey did the same to keep quiet.

"Maven, see if your bird will fly ahead and see if it catches anything." She looked at everyone. "And for the rest of us, stay quiet and keep your ears and eyes opened."

"Yes ma'am." Maven whispered to Zenith. She seemed hesitant, but eventually she took to the sky to check on the routes for them.

"Hey, can you guys hear me okay?" Sven asked over their com link, making certain to keep his voice down so that others wouldn't overhear him.

"Loud and clear," Evana said as she adjusted her ear piece.

"Good. Wanted to give you guys a heads up. We've already run across two armored divisions from the north. Hug the walls and try not to make much noise. These guys are armed for war."

"Good to know." Evana looked at Hailey and she instantly covered her mouth to be quiet. She then looked at Lana who nodded, knowing that she would have to been the look out.

Skyla, however, was nervous. She was trying hard to focus on seeing the future, but the closer they got to the north, the more she seemed to soak up the pasts of ever man out there. Her body stitched and her head ached. It was hard to think, to focus.

"Skyla, I want a heads up," Evana said without looking back at her.

"R-r-right..."

"Take a breath," Maven whispered as he gripped her hand, wanting her to calm down or else she was likely to pass out from the strain.

"Shut...up..." she said. She didn't mean to sound harsh or cold or mean to say it at all. But with the rush of personalities in her head, it was hard to know who exactly she was.

"Okay?" Her voice didn't even sound like her. She almost sounded like a man when she said that.

Skyla reached inside her head. Like a weaver, she made little walls, pushing back every memory, every personality that wasn't hers or that she hoped wasn't hers. It was hard and it was something she had never done before. She placed her hand on the wall to steady herself while she worked, her eyes closed tight and sweat gathering at her forehead. Evana looked back at her to ask for an update, but before she opened her mouth she looked at Hailey.

"Do something to keep her from blowing up!" she said in a loud whisper.

Hailey jumped down from Boris. Just then Skyla fell to her knees grabbing her head. She shook hard and opened her mouth. Just before she could scream, a pin went in her chest and she tipped over, stuck with the memories crowding her brain and straining her head while her eyes looked around in a daze and tears slipped from her eyes.

"She's in pain," Maven whispered. "There must be too many people here. Too many pasts. Too many thoughts...."

Hailey stroked her head. "I don't have anything to let her sleep..." she whispered. "She's going to have to bear the pain in silence," she said softly then ran back to Boris.

Lana glanced at Skyla. "She looks...so broken..."

"As much as I want to feel sorry, I can't. Pick her up and keep the pin in her. If she yells out, we will all die."

Maven nodded and knelt down beside her, scooping her into his arms as he held her close.

"It will be okay," he whispered to her.

Sarah sighed and shook her head. "That's one down and we haven't even ran into any hired guns yet."

"As long as we continue without a sound we will be fine."

Sarah smirked and nodded. "That's a lot easier said than done."

They continued on. Evana made sure no one spoke and Lana kept her eyes on the horizon.

Zenith circled over head. Suddenly she sky bombed them and cawed loudly. Maven looked up at the area she had cawed at just in time to see the glint of a rifle. "Get down!" he yelled, a small push sent everyone flying as bullets began to rain from above.

"Fuck!" Evana yelled.

"Fuck! I can't get a shot off," Sarah yelled as she fumbled with her rifle with one hand.

Boris had ripped a metal sheeting off and put it between them and the bullets. "If I move, they won't be able to miss me," he said somberly.

"We need help, Sven! Get your ass back here!" Evana yelled in the com. Lana moved to Sarah. She took her rifle.

"Better shot," she said. Looking out in the distance, she started snipping and getting head shots, their numbers slowly falling. Not one bullet missing.

Sven winced as his com channel suddenly gave him a terrible feedback which echoed in the abandoned building. Not even ten seconds later he and Maverick were having to run for cover while fending off the military and the Raiders. "So not a good time Evana!" he yelled.

"We already have a man down!" Evana called.

Maverick's eyes grew wide. "Lana!"

"It's not me," she assured him. "I'm the only defense we have though. No one else is using a gun and Boris is shielding us from the bullets. Skyla...is...well...practically dead."

"Be careful, Lana. Try to hold off until I get there."

"Hurry...I'm running out of bullets.

"Knife boy. Do you think you're fast enough that if I give you a distraction that you can reach them?" Sven asked as he fired bullets into the crowd of Raiders.

He nodded. "Lana, do you think you can run to me? I'll bring bullets and I'll need your back up."

Lana was quiet. "What about the others?"

"You won't be any good if you don't have bullets. Meet me."

"Alright."

"When I say go, you run for me when you see me."

"Ok..." she said softly.

"I know you can do this, Lana. I have faith in you."

Sven hit his suitcase and grabbed a large black orb from it. "I was hoping to save this baby for later. You'll have about two minutes knife boy." Twirling the object around in his hands he looked at him and smirked. "See you on the other side." He pressed something and the object glowed. "I'd start running now."

"Move, Lana!" He grabbed some bullets and dashed out, leaving dust behind.

Lana ran. Of course she wasn't as fast, but she was faster than the bullets at least. She met Maverick and as they ran he passed her some bullets she reloaded.

"Back to back, move fast, if I step you step," he said. She nodded. They rushed into the crowd.

"Holy shit..." Evana whispered as she watched. She couldn't see Lana or Maverick but she could see men falling like leaves. "It's like a storm..."

That's fucking awesome," Sarah said in awe. Suddenly the entire ground shook as an explosion ripped through a building on the other side of the street. The force of which all but decimated the entire structure and half of the block it was on. "What the hell was that!?"

"I'm guessing it was Sven."

"Reload!" Lana yelled. Flipping her gun in the air, Maverick flipped a clip. Both connected and she caught the hand gun and started ripping bullet through bodies again.

"We work well together!"

She smiled, this time, there was no blush.

"Sven!? Sven was in that explosion!?" Sarah paled as she looked at the ruins. There was no way he could have gotten out of that alive.

"I have to go check. Stay here where it's safe." She looked at Maven. "Put her down and stand guard!" She grabbed a piece of metal and shield herself as she started running to the building.

Maven nodded and set Skyla down beside Sarah. Taking her gun with shaking hand, he looked over the barrier. Swallowing hard, he pulled the trigger, surprised when a Raider went down. "Wow...."

"Sven!" Evana called and coughed at all the dust and smoke. "Sven!" She picked up large rocks, moving them and searching for any sign. "Damn it! Answer me!"

Maven sat down as Maverick finished off the last of the guards. "That was just...incredible."

"I can see where your speed comes in handy," Sarah smirked.

Lana's hands were shaking. "I've...never moved that fast before."

Maverick grabbed her hands. They were hot from the guns and sore. "You did a very good job. I would have never done this without you watching my back." She smiled.

She opened her mouth to speak but stopped when she saw a dust cloud finally clear and Evana's form walking towards them. She was empty handed and covered in dirty. "Oh no..." Lana whispered.

"No," Sarah said as she shook her head. "No! Tell me you found him!"

Evana fell to her knees, exhausted from lifting so many rocks. Her arms hurt and her hands were covered in blood from being cut open by the rocks. She shook her head sadly. "I'm sorry, Sarah..."

Hailey hugged Boris. Maverick was covered in blood from all those he killed as well as Lana. This trip was looking more like a death trap.
