Sarah groaned, wincing as she reached up and touched her forehead. Her head was throbbing, and blood poured from her face where her head hit the steering wheel. "Fuck," she whimpered. She tried to turn, but the metal parts of the car kept her pinned, she couldn't even move her arms. Her eyes widened as she struggled, claustrophobia kicking in. "Fuck! Fuck! Get me out!"

Sven shook his head. What the hell happened? He reached out and started to pull himself out of the car through the broken window. The broken glass cut through his skin, but he was able to get out relatively unscathed. He blinked as he stared at the car, his hands reaching out to take hold of Hailey. "Hailey. Are you okay!?"

Hailey cried hard, her words coming out in jumbles of her little squeaky voice. Finally Sven was able to make something out. "Evana is bleeding really bad! And I can't get my bag! And there is gas!"

"Gas..." He sniffed the air and paled. "Hailey run! See that broken pillar? Run to it as fast as you can!" He set her back down and quickly turned back toward the car. He could hear Sarah screaming. "Sarah, just stay there. I can't get you out." Fuck. Just fuck. "Evana? Can you hear me?"

Evana started bending the metal until finally she could see Sarah. "Sarah! Crawl to me!" she said as she made the hole bigger where Hailey got out. "And drag Maven."

Sarah took a breath as a way was opened. She was barely able to keep her calm as she grabbed Maven and started to pull him with her. "Come on, Maven," she whispered. "I can't do this alone." She pushed his arms through the hole. "Pull him. I can't get any leverage to push."

Evana grabbed him and pulled him out. "Sven! Pull them out from the opening I made to the outside! I have to get Boris out!" She was the only one strong enough to move the metal off Boris. Turning her body and twisting, she cried out as she pulled the metal out of her leg. Slowly she crawled to Boris and started pushing metal. She had to throw the bags out of the car just to get to him. "Take the bags! Hailey is going to need the supply!"

Sven scooped Maven into his arms and pulled him out of the car. He reached down and pulled Sarah up. "Hailey's over by the pillar, go to her."

"I can't...I can't carry Maven," Sarah said.

"I'll carry him once I get Evanan and Boris out. Just go!"

She nodded and took the bag Evana gave her. "Be safe," she told all of them as she hurried off after Hailey.

Evana had to stop. Her leg hurt so much.
"Taka Maven to a safe distance in case this thing blows! I'm going to be here for a bit!" she yelled and once again started bending the metal. "Sven...come back for me..." she added as she looked back at him from the opening.

He looked down at her and nodded.
"Okay. I'll be right back." He picked up Maven and propped him over his shoulder. He looked back at the car before hurrying toward the safe spot.

"Ok, big guy. It's just you and me," she said as she moved metal from his body. "I'll get you out...I promise."

Boris began to stir as he heard the metal grinding above him. The flames from the explosion were steadily moving their way. He could smell the burning flesh. "My head," he muttered as he started to move. His eyes shot open as he gasped. The metal of the roof and bent downward, stabbing into his right shoulder.

Stop moving! I'm not working this hard so you could die!" Evana snapped. She calmed herself. "Now just sit still. I only have to move a few more pieces and you will be free."

He nodded. "Alright. Just…be quick." He coughed, tasting blood. His eyes widened as he looked around. "Hailey. Where's Hailey?"

"I got her out. All the others are safe." She moved the last piece. "Ok, big guy. I need you to kick your left leg out. There is a door there. Kick it hard and it will come off and you can get out."

"Thank God." When she told him what to do, he nodded. His foot moved out, slamming into the door. It came off of its broken hinges, allowing him to squeeze out. As he moved, the car moved with him, dragging it closer to the fire. By the time he could stand, the flames licked at the gas.

"Run!" Evana screamed at him.

"Not without you!" Boris said, taking hold of the car and bending it to get her out.

Sven jumped on top of the car and reached into the hole.
"Give me your hand!"

Evana slowly moved to sit up slightly. "I can't stand...my leg is messed up," she said as she reached for him.

He stretched, his hand wrapping around hers. Boris's hands grabbed at the hole and pulled it wider, his hand reaching in to take hold of her body to help pull her up. The fire hit the gas and quickly started toward the car.

"Fuck."

Sven winced and closed his eyes as the flames hit the tank. There was a blinding light as it erupted...but nothing happened. Sven opened his eyes slowly to see a glowing ball of fire and metal stretching against invisible bonds. Looking up, he saw Sarah, letting Maven lean against her as he held his hand out. "Okay. He can't' hold that blast long. Let's get you out of there."

Evana moved her arms around Sven's body. Hailey came running across the dirt to Boris. She was crying harder than anyone had seen her and was covered in so much blood from Evana and from her head.

Boris reached up and pulled her into him.
"It's okay. It's okay sweet heart." He watched as Sven lifted Evana against him.

"He can't hold it! Get out of there!" Sarah yelled. Sven nodded, picked Evana up, he and Boris ran toward them. Maven's hand was shaking as he forced the fire back. Once they were clear he relaxed and let it go as he passed out. The resulting explosion ripped through the vehicle, turning it to nothing but a smoldering rubble.

Evana looked around.
"Has anyone...seen Mavrick?"

Sven looked at her and then at the others. "Hailey, can you stop her bleeding?"

Hailey buried her face in Boris's shoulder. "I want to go home! I want Nanny Xavier!" she cried.

Boris stroked her back and kissed her forehead.
"I know. I know," he whispered. "But right now you have to be a big girl. Okay?"

She cried harder but took her medical bag as he set her down. Moving over to Evana she sat down and opened the bag, pulling out everything she would need to stitch Evana up. Her hands shook and she kept jumping at every cracking sound from the fire behind them.

Evana looked at Hailey then at the fire. There was no way Maverick was coming out. She knew that. She felt it. Laying back on the ground, she closed her eyes.
"We...need to go back to Xavier's..."

Skyla shot up from the bed causing Lana to jump. Skyla pulled the IV out of her arm then the eating tub. "Xavier!" Lana screamed.

Skyla's body shook.
"It's not suppose to happen! That's not suppose to happen!"

Xavier watched the scene from a satellite. He closed his eyes and sighed. As soon as he heard Skyla he hurried down the hall. "What is it?"

"The explosion! It's not suppose to happen! Something went wrong! Someone tampered with the outcome! It's not suppose to happen!" Skyla screamed. Lana put the mask on Skyla's face so she could breathe.

Lana's hands shook.
"What...are you talking about?"

Xavier's lips tightened as he heard this. "That...was not part of the outcome?"

"No! I would have warned them if it was!" She was shaking hard and started out of the bed. "There...was something I couldn't see...a 20% chance that something would happen that I couldn't see... I see all outcomes but there is always a 20% chance that I can't see it... They weren't suppose to flip the car...Maverick was suppose to come out of the fortress before it exploded. Something isn't right! That's not suppose to happen!"

"Shepherd," Xavier whispered.

"How could he do that!? How could he change the outcome! It's not possible!"

"What are you saying? What about Maverick?" Lana shook her head.

Evana watched as Boris put a bandage on Hailey's forehead. No one knew how to do stitches but her and she couldn't do them on herself. The bleeding wasn't stopping but it was slowing.
"We need another car. We need to get her to Xavier."

Sven nodded. "I'll go see if there's anything left from Serena's warehouse. Maybe some of her vehicles are still viable."

"Don't go alone. You don't have your guns anymore. Boris you go with him."

"I'll be fine. Boris just stay here with the girls...." He started walking toward the burning rubble, hoping that he could find something that would let them get the hell out of this burning graveyard.

Maverick pushed himself out of the corner of the warehouse wall. It was only by chance that he made it to the warehouse. The blast didn't reach that far. Slowly he stood with the A.R.K. piece in his hand. He coughed as his hand waved away dust while he pushed broken wood out of the way to get the the car that was calling to him from the other side.

Sven pushed the rubble away from the warehouse. He clawed at the wood and metal until he was able to get to the door. Pushing it open, he slumped against the wall, quickly turning as he saw someone moving.
"I'll be damned," he muttered as he saw him. "You survived."

Maverick nodded. "What are you doing here? I figured you would be long gone by now."

"Well while you were relaxing in here, we got blown up. Hence all the blood and glass on my skin."

Maverick stiffened. "Is everyone..."

"They're alive. Not necessarily in one piece, but they're alive."

"Get in," he gestured to the car.

He just nodded and gingerly slid into the passenger seat.

Maverick got in. Surprisingly, it was a fast car. Turning it on, he shifted the car in gear, and hit the gas. In seconds they were pulling up to the others. Maverick got out of the car and looked at them.
"Hell..." he said."Let's head back."

Evana looked up at him. "I don't think I've been happier to see you..."

"Didn't you know? I can't die," he smirked as he lifted her up and put her in the car.

Boris held Hailey while placing Maven in the back seat. Sarah joined them, and within minutes they were driving back home, or at least back to what they considered their home. They were exhausted both mentally and physically.

It was around the early morning a day later when they got back to Xavier's. They didn't stop that night and Maverick's foot never let the gas have relief. He pulled up to the house and Skyla came rushing out.
"Give her to me!" she said holding her arms out and Maverick handed Hailey to her.

Skyla ran inside, having everything ready to stitch her up and fill her with drugs and blood. Lana came running out, crying. She wrapped her arms around Maverick. Maverick walked her inside while trying to calm her.

"What happened out there?" Xavier asked, watching as everyone limped and dragged themselves inside. Maven was surprised to see Skyla awake. She was suppose to be unconscious. What was she doing awake? He shook his head. All he wanted to do was lie down.

"We got fucked up," Sven said as he took of a puff from his cigarette.

"Why didn't Skyla warn us?"

"Apparently she didn't see it. She didn't know that it was going to happen."

"How is that possible?" Evana asked and grabbed Sven's cigarette. "Take me inside. No smoking," she said before putting it out and throwing it to the ground.

He groaned and rolled his eyes, breathing out his last bit of smoke.

"We aren't certain,"
Xavier admitted. "It could be that her powers were only enhanced as long as she was getting the drug. Going so long without it, perhaps she is weakening once more. We don't know."

Sven picked her up, and started inside with her.

Skyla finished with Hailey while Hailey cried and called for Xavier. After fixing her up with a blood transfusion, Skyla went down the hall as everyone was coming in. She looked at Xavier.
"I stopped the bleeding and sewed her head up. But...she's really scared and she's asking for you."

Xavier fixed his glasses and nodded. "I'll go check on her." He followed the hallway till he came to where Hailey was. "Hey sweetie. You're being such a big girl. I'm so proud of you!"

Hailey cried and held her arms out. "I lost the book!"

His jaw dropped slightly and he tried to hold back the crest fallen look on his face. "Oh...no," he whispered. Closing his eyes he reached out and wrapped his arms around her to hold her. "It's...okay, Hailey."

She cried against his chest and shook her head. "I don't want to go anymore! I don't want to!"

"You don't have to sweetie. You don't have to if you don't want to."

Skyla walked to Maverick's room and peered in as Maverick tried calming Lana. Taking a deep breath she backed out and started to Evana's room. After checking on her wounds she did the same for Sarah and Sven. She looked at Maven and Boris. "Um...did you want me to take a look at either of you?" she asked softly.

"I'm fine. Just a little banged up," Boris assured her. "More shaken up then anything.""I'm just tired. All I want to do is lay down," Maven told her.

"Right..." she said.

"I'll leave you two alone," Boris said, really not wanting to be in the room with both of them. He walked past them to go to his room.

"Boris I-"

"That's enough," he said, cutting him short as he left.

Maven looked at Skyla, shaking his head slowly as if he was disappointed.

Skyla looked down. Slowly she walked out and back to her room. Shutting the door behind her she took a deep breath as she went to the window and sat on the windowsill.

Sarah knocked on her door.
"Hey...." She said softly.

Skyla didn't bother looking away from the window.
"Hello, Sarah. I'm sorry I didn't warn you about the crash..."

"Yeah, that was kind of a bitch move. Why didn't you see it? I thought you were all super powerful now."

"No one is super powerful. And I did see it...only...it didn't happen the way it was suppose to. Maverick was suppose to come out before the bomb then get in the car and you guys speed off into the horizon just before the bomb goes off. That's how it was suppose to happen. Even all the other outcomes did not come out that way. No one was suppose to get hurt," she said softly. "I wouldn't have let you go if I felt your lives were in danger..."

"So why couldn't you see us dying as a possible future?"

"Because...it wasn't a possible outcome...it wasn't until it was happening that it came to me... And I've never had a delayed future before... It's like...my powers are revolting against me."

Sarah sighed. "Oh well. It's not that big of a deal. It's not like we relied on it or anything. I mean, we've gotten this far without needing your future powers. Either we'll die or we won't."

Skyla said nothing. Not a big deal? How could it not be a big deal? If she was off on this...then maybe everything she has seen will now be off. One thing could throw off the whole future.

"I never thought that the future was something that we should know. It just seems like there are some things that we shouldn't know."

"Perhaps you are right...I only wish I had that choice," she said. "Could you please leave? I think I need to be alone."

She looked at her and nodded. "Okay. If you need me you know where I'll be."

She nodded. Opening the window, she made a soft bird call and a little bird flew in. "I need your help..."

Maven stroked Zenith, gently rubbing her while she laid on his chest. "I don't know what I'm going to do," he whispered. "Skyla did what she thought was right, but...." He closed his eyes and sighed. "I'm mad at her. So...very mad. I can't understand why she brought me back. Yet...I still care about her."

At night, Skyla sat on her bed in her night gown waiting. Finally the bird flew in and danced about chirping. "Thank you," she smiled and went to the window. A horse sat there waiting for her. Crawling out the window, she hopping on the horse, adjusting her night gown. Petting its face lovingly, she whispered something in its ear and it slowly made its way to the front gate.

"So, that's just it. You're leaving in your night gown?" Xavier stepped out from the shadows by the gate, smiling as he looked at her.

The horse made a grunting noise and she patted its head to calm it.
"I'm not leaving...I'm just going away for a while. I'll be back. After all...I'm in my night gown."

He smiled and nodded. "Okay. Don't be gone long. Maven get's anxious when you're not around and I'd rather not have my house floating off the ground."

"Don't say things like that. I've seen enough of the future to know that I won't be missed." She made a clicking sound and the horse took off.

"You don't have to see the future to know that he's pining for you," he sighed.

Skyla let the horse pick the pace as it led her out of the city. Breathing in some cleaner air, she wiped her tear stained eyes and her hair danced in the moonlight. One way or another...she was going to fix herself. Or die.

Xavier went back to his room, smiling at Hailey's sleeping form on his bed. He stroked her hair lovingly before kissing her forehead.
"No more," he whispered. "No more missions for you."
