Skyla let out a deep breath. Standing she dressed then got into her bed. In the morning, she woke with the cub licking her face and Hailey screaming for Xavier.

"I'm here sweetie. I'm here," Xavier said as he hurried into the room.

She held the book with shaking hands.
"He came back! He came back and brought me the book!"

He looked at the book and smiled. "He did," he whispered as he stroked her head.

She jumped up and down on the bed.
"He misses me!"

He laughed and nodded. "Of course he does. Who wouldn't miss you?"

"He's my guardian angel! Look! Look!" she laughed as she hugged the book.

He just nodded, letting her enjoy the moment. Skyla walked down the hall and stood off to the side of the door way as she listened with a soft smile, but she stayed out of the door way so Hailey and Xavier wouldn't see it. They needed this moment. Both of them. That book meant a lot to them.

"Eavesdropping is one hell of a way to say hello," Sven muttered as he walked past her to start the coffee.

She gestured for him to be quiet. Before she could say anything, her little wolf cub bit Sven's ankle. Laughing lightly, she picked him up.

He hissed, nearly kicking the cub in the process.
"What the hell is that thing?"

"I don't know his name yet. And try to refrain from kicking him. He's still learning," she said and walked back to her room.

"First birds now wolves? This is turning into a zoo."

Skyla changed into a dress and brushed out her hair as the cub started barking lightly. "I'm hurrying. I'll get you some food." She put her brush down and walked out the room. He followed behind her all the way to the kitchen. Going through some things in the fridge, she put some food and water down for him and sat on the ground to watch him eat. "Why won't you tell me your name?"

"He's just a pup. Maybe he doesn't know his name." Maven was already up and staring down at her, Zenith perched on his shoulder like a watch dog.

"No, he does. He just doesn't like to talk much. He watched him mommy die. He's still a little traumatized."

"Watching loved ones die can do that to you, " Boris said. He looked at the two of them, grabbed something from the fridge and then quickly made his departure.

Skyla sighed. The pup ran after Boris.
"No!" Skyla called but he didn't listen. She ran after him and grabbed his little back leg. He turned around and bit her. She narrowed her eyes and he looked at her. After a moment his ears went down and he laid down. "Bad," she said.

Maven smirked, leaning down he rubbed the back of the pup's ears.
"He's a feisty little thing."

Skyla picked him up. "I see Boris still thinks I'm the plague..." He still acted as if she didn't see his family die...or Maven die. It was as if she didn't know. Taking the pup back to the kitchen she pointed to the food and he started eating again.

"Give him time. He's...warming up. Slowly. Very slowly."

"It doesn't matter. I can live without it." She grabbed and apple and sat down, watching the pup bark at Zenith.

Zenith ruffled her feathers and glared at the pup, obviously feeling territorial. Maven just laughed.
"I think if your pup wants to reach a ripe old age he won't tease Zenith too much."

"He's not teasing. He wants to play. He's asking Zenith to come down," she smiled.

Zenith just glared at the pup and then at Skyla as if to say 'I don't play'.

Skyla looked at the pup after a few moments he started whining. She kept staring at him then suddenly started pulling at Maven's pants. Skyla started laughing.

Maven looked down at the pup.
"Uh...why is he doing that?" He was curious why the tiny terror was tugging at his leg.

"Play."

He sighed and reached down to rub him. He smirked and rolled it over so that he could rub his belly.

"Now you've done it. That's his spot. Now every time he sees you he's going to do that," she said and took a bite of her apple.

He smirked at that.
"So in other words I've just gained a new best friend."

"No, you've gained a burden. The only thing he will want you around for is belly rubs." She smiled. "I wish you could hear him."

He rolled his eyes. "What's he saying?"

"Roughly, 'Mmmm. Yes. Ah. Yes. I like. Yes.'" She laughed.

He groaned and shook his head.
"On second thought. I so don't want to know." He scratched his belly, watching his tongue roll out and his tail wag.

"He keeps wanting to say play, but then you keep scratching." She walked over to the pup and got to her knees. She looked down at him and he rolled over as she talked to him. Pointing to Maven then to herself the pup tilted his head. She did it again and he scratched his ear then licked her hand and went to the water bowl.

"What did you just do...or say?"

"I was..." she thought a moment. She didn't want to tell him the truth but she didn't want to lie. "I was setting boundaries," she said.

"What kind of boundaries?"

"The kind...that he should know..."

"Okay?" That was just about as vague as a person could get.

Skyla opened the door and the pup ran out. A few minutes later her rushed back in. Licking her ankle in thanks he went back over to Maven and rolled on his back.
"See?"

Maven just leaned down and laughed. "You better be glad you're cute." Zenith fluffed up her feathers and flew out the open door to get some fresh air. "I don't think Zenith likes the competition."

"I warned you she wouldn't." Skyla touched Maven's chest then her chest. The pup flipped back over and barked. She did it again. Her barked again then started chasing his tail. "He's so silly."

He smiled as she touched his chest. He was curious what all that was about, but he figured that she was going to be elusive again, so why bother. Leaning forward, he pressed his lips to hers, gently massaging them before pulling back.

Skyla was taken back. She knew he wasn't mad at her, but she had no idea that he was forgiving her. A soft smile graced her lips. Slowly she looked down at the pup
. "Mine... That's what I was telling him. You are mine, my mate."

He smiled at that. "So even though we haven't officially made up, I'm still yours?"

"Even when I saw that you would never forgive me...when you walked away and never came back for me...I still thought of you as mine. You are my first love. And I hope my last," she said softly.

"It seems that you were wrong about...our future."

"Because of the explosion...I'm wrong about a lot of things..." She moved her hands over her cuts on her arms. "But...I'm fixing it."

"I would still prefer if you found a less dangerous way."

"It's not dangerous. I'm not doing anything other than causing physical pain. I know enough about medical things from Hailey's past to know where not to cut."

"Good girl," he smirked and patted her head.

Skyla pushed his hand from her head.
"I'm not a dog."

"No. You're more like a wolf," he smiled.

"How's that?"

"Protective of others. Works well in groups. Vicious if made mad. Dangerously beautiful."

She blushed. "Dangerously beautiful... How silly." She turned from him and picked up the little wolf cub. Scratching his ears she sighed. "I don't think your future will change. I can still see you...becoming more mature...more level. You'll be acting much older very soon." She handed him the pup and pulled out the little metal piece and cut her upper shoulder slightly.

"Yay?"

She sighed. "You don't have to understand it."

"I just always assumed that it was best to stay away from pain."

"Depends on who you are I suppose," she said with a shrug. She took the pup from him and he ran to the door. She opened it and ushered Maven out with her as she stepped out into the morning sun.

"We've got to go back to the flatlands to get that piece we missed. Will you be able to come with us this time?"

"Only if I'm wanted," she said as she climbed the tree and watched the wolf run around barking at bugs and chewing on sticks.

"I don't see why you wouldn't be." He climbed up beside her, nestling against her as his arm wrapped around her waist.

"Not everyone is as forgiving as you..." she said as she moved her back against his chest. "Do you have any idea how much I've missed you? Nearly a month and a half of behind locked away in a room, torn from your arms, shut out by your death...your memory loss..." she whispered. Her heart hurt.

"No," he said slowly. "I honestly have no idea. All that time is nothing more than vague memories of being in and out of consciousness."

She closed her eyes. Of course he wouldn't know...

He leaned forward, letting his lips trail over the back of her neck.
"But I do know how much I have missed you."

Her eyes opened. "You...missed me?"

"Yes."

She turned in his arms, facing him and moving her legs to each of his sides. Her hand caressed his face. Her face was broken and she couldn't help the tears from flooding her eyes. "I've been so very alone..."

He felt a small part of him breaking inside as she looked at him. Closing his eyes, he leaned forward and kissed her, gently and sweetly. "You're not alone," he promised.

She moved her hands to his chest and brought her body closer to him. Her lips brushed his lightly before she passionately moved her lips over his, nibbling and messaging. Her hands fisted on his shirt. All she could think about was those lonely days she spent in that forest with no one but herself, longing to feel his body next to hers. His hands held her waist, trying to pull her into a lap. If they weren't in a tree he would probably allow himself to be more intimate, but with their moving he was having a hard time keeping his balance. His lips tingled as she nibbled and kiss him. He could almost feel her longing and heartache in every tear drenched kiss.

Slowly she pulled back, pressing her forehead to his as she took a deep breath.
"I love you, Maven."

He bit his lip and nodded. "I know you do," he whispered.

She laid her body against his chest, moving her head to his shoulder as she gently pressed her lips to his neck ever so lightly.
He smiled, simply glad to have her so close. He shuddered, feeling goose bumps on his flesh as she kissed him. Feeling his goose bumps, she couldn't help herself but to her move her hand under his shirt to feel his warm chest. She pulled her lips back and kissed his neck again, repeating the sweet kisses. He moaned sweetly at the feeling of her hand on his chest. He moved his neck to the side, letting her explore his flesh with her lips. His hands moved back and forth, slowly sliding up and down her thighs, working themselves up her dress. Skyla moved her hand to his buttons and slowly undid each one on his shirt until she could see his chest. Her kissed moved down his next to his collar bone then back up again as her hands roamed his exposed chest.

His breathing started to pick up as his hands slid up her thighs, rubbing against her panties. He let his hands roam around, grabbing her butt and pulling her until she was sitting in his lap.

"Skyla! You're back!" Lana yelled from the window. Skyla and Maven jumped and Skyla fell from the tree, hitting the ground. Lana came running out as Skyla stared at Maven. "Oh my! Are you ok?" Lana asked as she ran out to check on her.

Skyla just laid there.
"I've never...fallen out of a tree before... Ouch..."

"I'm so blaming you for that," Maven moaned even as he laughed about what happened.

Lana helped Skyla up and started dusting her off. Before Skyla could rub her head, Lana was hugging her.
"I'm so glad you are back! We were going to go get you today! I was just getting up to wake Maven."

Skyla hugged her back and shifted. Lana looked up at the tree at Maven, seeing his shirt open. She blushed. "Did I...interrupt something?"

"No, not at all," he said, moving and easily landing in front of them. "We were just making out...I mean making up! We were making up."

Skyla covered her face with her hands. Lana just stood there awkwardly. Finally she patted Skyla's shoulder. "I'm glad..." she whispered then ran inside to let Maverick know the good news.

"That went over well."

"Right..."

"It could always have gone over worse," he smirked.

She opened her mouth to say something but looked back as the pup started barking at Zenith who was sitting in the tree now. She smiled.
"Kota!" she called. He looked over at her and she held her arms up. He ran to her and she scooped him up. While he licked her face she hugged him. "Kota! Your name is Kota!"

Maven smiled and rubbed him as he licked her. "So he finally told you his name?"

"No, he told Zenith. He wanted her name so he told her his to be fair. How clever!" She put him down and he ran back to the tree and kept barking.

"So, what you're saying is my bird is smarter than you are," he smirked.

"No...your bird has yet to speak to Kota. Kota told her his name in order to get her name, but she won't talk to him."

Maven just smiled as he watched Zenith stare down at the pup as if he was from another world. After a moment, she puffed her feathers and flew down in front of the pup to size him up. Skyla's lips tightened. Kota ran around Zenith and growled at her to get her to play. Zenith watched him run around her. Finally she jumped up, fluttering as she landed on the pup's back and lightly pecked his head once. He cried out and ran to Skyla whining with his tail tucked between his legs. He wasn't expecting the bird to do that. Zenith stayed on his back, riding him as if he was a rampant bull.

Skyla shooed Zenith and picked up the screaming pup. She spoke to him with calming words to get him to stop crying.
"Zenith, he's a baby you mean bird."

Zenith fluttered her wings as if to shrug. When the pup continued to squall she flew over to Skyla's shoulder and stared at it, slowly the pup began to quiet.

"What did she just do?" Maven asked.

"She told him her name," Skyla said. She set him down again and he ran over to Maven, flipping over on his back.

He chuckled and knelt beside the pup, scratching his belly lovingly.
"You're going to have him spoiled rotten."

"No, you are," she smirked. Going to the door, she held it open and the cub ran inside. She went in after him.

"What can I say? He's too adorable to refuse."

Once inside, Skyla found everyone sitting at the breakfast table. Hailey had spotted Kota. "Puppy! Mine!" she cried and tackled him.

Xavier laughed as she watched her with the puppy.
"Oh dear. I have a feeling that Hailey has a new best friend."

"What is his name!? Is he mine?! Can I keep him, Nanny Xavier?! Can I?!" she said excitedly as she hugged the suffocating Kota.

"Uh...Skyla?" Xavier smiled and motioned to the puppy who was nearly suffocating.

Skyla moved over to Hailey who was now getting chewed on though she didn't seem to notice or care. Pulling Kota from her arms she smiled at Hailey.
"Kota. He's mine. And you may play with him."

Hailey screamed with joy. She started running to her room and Kota ran after her, barking.

"I don't think you'll have any trouble tiring him out before bed. My bet is that he'll run out of energy long before she does," Maven smirked.

"Welcome back, Skyla. I'm glad you are safe," Maverick said and handed her a cup of tea.

"Thank you," she smiled.

"What's up with your arms?"

Skyla shifted. "I'm in training..."

"She likes to hurt herself. She thinks it's kinky," Sven smirked.

"It is kinky," Sarah said sipping on her coffee.

"I didn't say that..." Skyla said.

"Then what is it?"

"I focus on the pain so I don't see the future."

"So kinky, masochistic sex."

She blushed. "No..."

Sven just rolled his eyes. "You're such a virgin. Mark my words, Maven. Soon she'll be wanting it rough and rowdy."

"I'm not a virgin," she said and sat down with her tea.

"Oh?" Evana smirked.

"Not that it's any of your business," Maven muttered.

"Skyla, you don't have to..." Maverick said softly, remembering her showing him that she was raped the day she was taken.

"It's alright. Some have good experiences...some have bad," she smiled and played with her tea cup.

"So in other words Maven sucks in bed," Sarah laughed.Maven's cheeks turned red, his fingers twitching.

"No. I was raped," Skyla said.

Lana's head shot to her.
"What...?"

"Leave it at that."
