Maverick nodded, making sure everyone was in the car and ready before getting out himself and stepping to the side.

"I...need us to make a side trip."

"We aren't hunting cigarettes and alcohol."

Sven sighed and stared off in the horizon. "It's my son."

"Oh... Yes, I don't see why not."

Sven closed his eyes and tried to relax. What was he going to do? He'd only seen his son twice in his five years. He didn't even know the first thing about being a dad.

Maven wrapped an arm around Skyla as she rested against him.
"It will take us a while to get there, so just rest up."

Skyla only nodded against him. Every now and then, she would test her wall in his head, pushing against his mind, willing him to lift his arm or say something, but he never moved. She smiled. It was a good wall. Lana shifted uncomfortably. As she rode in silence. "Maverick," she whispered.

Maverick patted her leg and pulled off to the side.
"Rest stop. Stretch your legs. We won't be camping tonight."

Evana would have objected, but really, she didn't care. She wasn't driving so she could sleep in the car. Maverick reached in the back and grabbed Lana's bag. Getting out, Lana ran to a large rock and moved behind it. Maverick sat next to her. Pulling out the breast pump, he undid her shirt as she flushed. Soft hands hooked the pump up to her and she rested against him with a sigh. Already she was feeling better.

Sven got out and stretched, walking away from the loving couple so that he could smoke. He sighed and stared at the little picture that had accompanied his information. He sighed and ran his picture over it.

Maven nudged Skyla and kissed her forehead.
"You want to get up?"

Skyla shook her head. She nestled into him more with a content sigh.

After their little side trip they made their way to their destination. Surprisingly, aside from the flat worms, they didn't have much trouble taking the piece. Between Maven slaughtering anything that got too close and the hail of bullets coming from Sven and Sarah, Maverick was able to run in and grab the piece without any trouble.

"That was too easy," Boris yawned. "At least we had one easy case. It will be good to get back and relax."

"We're not going back right now."

"Did Xavier want us to pick up another piece?" It had already been three days and she was quickly filling all the frozen bottles in the chamber Xavier had given her for the milk. She was ready to go home.

"We have to pick up Sven's son. So it's imperative that we hurry," Maverick said as he drove.

Everyone's eyes locked on Sven.

Sven groaned and sank in his seat.

"You have a son!?" Sarah asked unable to believe what she was hearing. "Why the hell didn't I know?"

"Because I didn't want anyone to know."

"Ashamed? How sad," Evana said as she sat back and closed her eyes for the ride.

"I'm not ashamed of my son," he snapped. "I just can't exactly offer the best life for him."

"So you left him with Serena!? Why the fuck did you do that?"

"I didn't leave him with her. I left him someone I could trust. We just...lost contact."

"Because you didn't care. Just admit it."

"I don't presume to know you, so don't presume to know me."

"I don't care. That's different from presuming. However, when it comes to children, one can't help but care."

"Whatever," he sighed, as he closed his eyes. "Let's just go there so I can get him."

Lana turned around in her seat to look at him. "How old is he?"

Sven reached into his pocket and pulled out the picture and handed it to her. "He just turned five."

Lana smiled. "Wow...he's so cute. Aww, he has your eyes," she said softly then passed the picture back to him.

Sven just nodded uncomfortably.
"Yeah. I guess he does."

She smiled at him then turned around back in her seat. Another child in the house. She looked over a Maverick as he stared straight ahead. Thoughts ran through her head and she sighed to herself before leaning against the door.

It was another day before they got to the place where his son was staying. Boris whistled as they arrived at the large mansion. The area was surrounded by a large metal wall with guards lining its every walk way.
"This isn't a place...it's a prison."

"It's...not that bad," Sven said slowly.

Lana paled. Skyla moved her back against Maven. So this was the place she saw in Sven's memories? It looked a lot darker than she thought.

"So...who exactly did you leave your son with?" Sarah asked.

"A friend," he sighed. The guards stopped them at the gate. "I'm here to see Veronica."

"Veronica isn't seeing anyone," the guard said coldly.

"She'll see me. Tell her Sven in here to collect on some old debts."

The guard nodded and called the intercom. After a few moments he nodded. "She'll see you, but stay where the guards are. Go out of the area and you'll be shot."

"Yeah. I know the drill," he muttered. They waved Maverick through and they started through the driveway. There were different areas, housed throughout the mansion. What looked like cell blocks held people in there, while others worked outside. Each new sight he saw made Sven's heart hurt.

Skyla took out the piece of metal and moved her dress up slightly. Slowly she made small cuts on her thighs, trying to keep herself from seeing anything other than the present.

"Don't," he whispered. "We may need that. I've got the feeling that getting out of here won't be as easy as it was getting in."

She stopped, watching her blood run over her thigh. With shaking hands she put the metal away. He reached down and pressed his hand against her thigh to stop the bleeding.

Once they got to the part where the guards told them to stop, Sven got out.
"Uh...you guys don't have to come. It should only take a few minutes hopefully."

"At least take Skyla with you. Just in case..."

"No. It will be fine," he said softly. "Just...keep the car running. Okay?"

Skyla looked at Sven. She moved closer to him and passed him a gun. "It...will be needed..." she whispered.

He took the hand gun and slipped in his coat.
"Yeah. Probably." With a small nod he followed the guards through hallways and upstairs till he reached and office. "Veronica.... I'm here for my son."

Veronica turned in her chair and smiled. Her raven hair cascaded down her pale face as she looked at him. "You brought your son here for safe keeping, Sven. The contract was for life. You can't take him back."

Sven rolled his eyes
. "I left him with you because I thought he would be safe! Serena couldn't get to him! I get shot at on a daily basis, and let's face it, I'm not really father material."

"Then why are you trying to get him now?" She smirked.

"Because, when I was with Serena she mentioned him. You've been letting her see him. I know who she was working for. I've got the inkling feeling that you're working for him as well."

She just smiled and shrugged. "Business is business Sven."

"You were my friend! I trusted you."

"Trust is cheap. I thought you knew that."

Skyla looked at the other.
"Get ready," she warned.

"What's going to happen?" Sarah asked as she cocked her gun.

"A fight," she said softly. Thrusting her hand forward, the car suddenly had a sunroof, the metal pulling back to make a hole. "Get in the car." Everyone got in. All the windows went down. Evana grabbed a gun. She stood up and poked out of the sunroof with Sarah. "You shoot, Maverick drives, Maven and I clear a path to the gate. In a few minutes...Sven is going to run out with his son. We won't have time to hesitate. As soon as he's in the car, hit the gas and start shooting."

"So you're working for him?"

"No. It's more like we have a mutual friendship. He gives me what I need...and I give him you guys." She smirked and reached beneath her. Sven pulledhis gun and pointed at her, but his hand shook as he saw her pulled out his son and hold him up. His hands were bound and his mouth was covered with tape. His eyes were wide with fear as he looked at his father.

"Put him down," Sven whispered.

She pulled out a gun and pointed it at the boy's head. "Give me the A.R.K."

"Oh right, because I just carry it in my pocket," he spat. "Now give me my son!"

"Put your gun down," she smirked.

Sven swallowed hard and put his gun down.
"There it's-"

She fired, shooting him in the chest. Sven gasped as he fell back on the ground.

"God, I've wanted to do that for so long," she laughed. "Now what pretty boy? You're fucked. You can't save your son."

Sven held his hands to his chest and laughed.
"That's why I have friends."

Suddenly her gun went flying out of her hands. It was pulled a part with a flick of Maven's wrist. His son was then pulled away as Maverick cradled him in his arms. "It's okay," Maverick said, his knife pressed against Veronica's throat. "You okay?"He glanced at Sven on the floor.

"Took you guys long enough," he hissed as he pushed himself up, using the table as leverage.

Maven stood outside her office window, three feet off the ground. He held her against the wall with his powers as he looked at them.
"The guards are coming. We should go now."

Sven nodded and looked at Veronica. Grabbing his gun, he pointed it at her head. "Fucking with me is one thing, But you don't ever fuck with my son!" She winced as he started to pull the trigger. However he stopped when he saw his son's wide eyes. "You owe me," he hissed. Turning to Maverick, he held his hands out for his son. "It's okay. It's okay." He exchanged a glance with Maverick before looking at Maven. "So how does this work...do you just....?"

The doors burst open behind them and bullets flew at them. They bounced off of Maven's shield as he shoved the guards back. With a quick motion, Sven, the boy, and Maverick flew toward him. They crashed into him, and the entire group fell, but Maven managed to soften their fall.

Skyla moved in front of Maven, holding her hands out and stopping bullet.
"Get to the car! I can't hold it as long as Maven! Go!" she yelled they got up and ran to the car. "Maven! On my word, throw them back!" She looked at the door. She knew Veronica was about to run out. As soon as the knob twisted, Skyla yelled. Maven's arm flew out and all the men went flying into the door, crashing into her. Grabbing Maven's hand, she ran to the car and got in. "Move it!" Evana and Sarah shot bullets off from the sunroof while Lana shot from the window. Skyla and Maven sat in the front seat together, throwing people away from the car.

"The gate, Maven!" Skyla screamed. There was no way she could break it on her own. Maven's eyes narrowed and the gate flew off the hinges off into the distance. Skyla looked at Maverick as he drove out of the plantation. She turned around and looked back at it. A soft sigh escaped her lips. "She won't come after us...not yet. Her pride is hurt," she assured Sven.

"She's lucky that's the only thing that's hurt," he whispered as he cradled his crying son. He looked up at Maverick and sighed. "Can I see one of your knives?"

"You don't need it." Skyla said and crawled in the back. Moving to the floor board in front of him, she placed her hand on his wound. Slowly, she willed the bullet out. "Lana?"

"Here," Lana said softly and handed Skyla the medical bag. Skyla threw the bullet out the window then opened Sven's shirt to work on him.

He tried not to yell as she pushed the pullet out of him.
"Can you get his hands free?"

Skyla nodded. "Kota," she said. Kota walked over to the little boy and started chewing on the ropes. When his hands were free, Skyla took the tap off his mouth lightly. Kota started licking the boy's little fingers to get him to calm down. Skyla smiled at him and pulled out a little cookie. "Want a cookie? It will make you feel better. I promise."

The little boy looked up at her with big eyes. He hesitantly reached out and took the cookie, chewing on it as he hugged his father. "It's okay son," he whispered.

"There we go. See? All better?" she said and placed a patch over Sven's wound. She took his shirt completely off and wiped his chest down so he wouldn't get any blood on his son.

The little boy buried his face in his father's chest. Sven tried to console him.
"It's okay. Just sleep. We'll talk when you wake." The boy nodded as his father cradled him. It wasn't long before his cries were silenced as he fell asleep.

Skyla moved back in the front seat and started wiped the blood off her hands. Maybe if she hadn't had seen what was going to happen...Sven wouldn't be alive now and neither would his son. She had so much to think about. Yet she knew...her training needed to hurry up.

"What's his name?" Maven asked as he looked back at him.

"Adam," he whispered with a sigh while he stroked his son's curls.

Maverick pushed his foot to the floor, the car speeding up. They would be home in three days.
