Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ The Winged Warrior ❯ The Arguments over ( Chapter 3 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Ms. Vexo had rushed home that night. Her neighbor reported the lack of noise from her house, the lights were off and no movement had been made for hours. That it appeared that there had been something like a fire in the upstairs, smoke was pouring into the night sky.
She pushed the door open and looked around inside, the stereo was playing Go the Distance, it looked like it hadn’t been touched since the morning. River’s helmets were discarded on the ground, the half full cup of cereal sitting on the coffee table, now soggy and just left there. She continued into house, things looked like they had been over turned. As if someone had been in a rush to get somewhere, she looked around again. “What... happened here?” She spoke slowly, she looked up the stairs. Surely they were up there, probably individual in their rooms being good children... Hopefully. “Now, Holly, you know they have to be up here…. There is nowhere else they could be… River’s motorcycle is outside, Alex’s car is still in the driveway, and Sam doesn’t know how to drive.” She started up the stairs. “You’ve already called their friends and they’re not there.”
Then she saw it, the hole in the ceiling and the empty gas bomb, the place was a wreck! She opened Sam’s room, no one, she kicked opened Alex’s door, no one. She knew there was no one in River’s room….. the hole gave it away. “Okay, so they’re not in the house and no one in town has seen them.” She started to hyperventilate. She found the note on the floor.
To The Mother of Samantha Vexo;

The Shadow Men
“River? What do these men want with River?!” She thought aloud. She quickly ran down the stairs and picked up the phone… then she discovered the line had been cut. “Oh my….” She took out her cell phone… and called the sheriff.

“Wow what did I miss?” Sam asked looking at the two of them, having just that moment woken up. “Hello?” She blinked then took a picture, “ewww”
Alex pushed away from River as quickly as she had kissed him stumbling back and falling onto her butt on the ground, her face a neon red. River just stared forward blankly shocked, his face slightly drain of color.
“I’d love to see how you end a physical fight.” River said, spoken like a true immature boy. Alex mumbled then kicked his shin her face getting an even deeper red.
“Well that wasn’t exactly what I wanted to wake up to.” Sam said looking around the cell before getting an annoyed look. “Well maybe it is.” She said sarcastically. She looked at River and laughed as Alex’s foot made contact with his shin.
He didn’t cringe; he was still just staring into space. He took off his necklace revealing the magnificent blue wings on his back. “Bet you wouldn’t do it again.” He said blankly Alex turned away from him in a huff. “I think we’re thinking different things… oh well not my problem.” He put his necklace back on, and looked back as the blue wings disappeared instantly.
Alex let out a sigh, “Like I said. I’m not going anywhere” She still wouldn’t look at him. Sam looked at River a bit confused having missed the entire argument.
“Yes you are.” River replied then looked to Sam, “I’m busting you two out”
“And you’re going with us, like it or lump it.”
“I can’t go with you.”
“Don’t start this again, River. We’re escaping and you’re coming with us, end of discussion.”
“I'm a fucking freak, Alex, even if I go with you, it won't be long until someone figures me out and they haul me off to fucking area 51”
“We’ll make sure that no one finds out, and if they do, I’ll kill them.”
“In what alternate world do you live?” River asked staring at her. “You know they won’t bring guns and such to bring down the damned winged freak, but obviously you’re stronger then that.” River tilted his head back and stared at her “You guys still have a chance out there…. I don’t”
“Read my flapping lips. We. Are. Not. Leaving. You” Alex replied looking at him again and putting her finger in his face.
“The hell you aren’t” growled River through his teeth. He made another dent, this time in the wall. “I can do that! What do you got?” Sam just watched them silently.
“My foot in your groin”
“Dare ya to try it.”
“Well obviously I’m not going to try it now, you know it’s coming.” Alex just looked at him like he was a moron after rolling her eyes.
“What are ya, chicken?”
“No, I’d do it anytime, anywhere” She rolled her eyes at him again.
“Blaze is coming.” River said looking towards the door, the tall man’s walking could be heard echoing down the hall way.
“Good” Alex started to stretch.
“You’re not fighting him.”
“You’re going to need someone to keep that muscle from going to your head.” She said tapping on his skull.
“You will not fight him.” River said catching her wrist, his face showing his seriousness. He let go of it then looked to the door where Blaze would be shortly
“You’re a kill joy, you know that?” she asked with a smirk. River shook his head as Blaze appeared in the door way.
“Hello…. Little brother.” Blaze said with a smile as he stared at River who stood with his face locked in an angry expression.
“Enter the bastard” Alex said glaring at Blaze
“Whoa whoa, wait, little brother?” Sam finally spoke confused.
“Oh, River didn’t tell you?” Blaze asked almost as if he was talking to small children. “He got a tad bit of memory back during our fight... I’m William Musha.”
Alex only laughed, “No wonder you changed your name, Willy.”
“Pleasantly, fuck off Alexandra” Blaze smiled at her. Alex only glared and clenched her fists at her side. “Come on Loser.”
River stepped forward, and as soon as he did, he and Blaze were both outside of the cell, River was escorted away by two tag-along guards.
“Hey! Leave him alone!” Alex called after them. Sam got up and walked over looking at Alex then where River and Blaze had gone.
“I still don’t know what’s going on here.” Sam admitted watching two more guards come out; they set a large TV up across the way from the cell. They both sat at either ends of the cell and turned on the TV, it was broadcasting wherever River and Blaze were.
The scene looked like one straight from an action movie. River was playing the hero, he had thrown his shirt aside and taken off his shoes as had Blaze, who just stood opposite him only a couple yards away. He was smirking wide and maniacally. They were talking but their words didn’t make any sense as if they were speaking an entirely different language. Then they nodded to each other and began, the conflict almost seemed like a sibling thing at first. A few light punches were thrown and they both would stumble now and then, but then the real fight kicked in when Blaze’s hands lit on fire and he began to throw flaming punches at River, who could nothing more but acrobatically dodge.
Alex and Sam sat helplessly in the cell just watching. “I would make so many jokes about River doing all those flips…. But…. It’s not the right time.” Sam smiled towards Alex trying to lighten the mood a bit. Alex’s face was too laced with worry to pay any attention to Sam, then River let out a blood curtailing scream. Alex and Sam seemed to jump back, River was on the ground gripping his chest, obviously having been burn there, and Blaze was standing over him.
“Stupid little brother.” Blaze kicked River across the cheek. River fell back, his head jerking ahead of his body. He scrambled a bit before a now extinguished fist collided with the other side of his face. Blaze had his brother pinned down with his knee on River’s chest denying his little brother much air or able movement. The fists that Blaze were sending were faster the eye could comprehend, all that was able to be seen of the blows was River’s head jerking both was ever second. He was begun to bleed from wounds on his mouth and from his nose. He finally connected a blow to Blaze’s chest which sent him flying! River was back on his feet and with a wide grin, used his thumb to wipe his mouth clear of blood.
Blaze slowly got up, anyone watching could tell though, fire began to burn all around him. He launched at River again, and the fight continued. Fists where flying and mid air combat occurred a couple of times, but then the screen fuzzed out when Blaze and River obviously knocked into where ever the camera covering their fight was sitting.
River was brought in a few minutes later; he was beaten and was carrying his shirt and shoes, but he was conscious. He was let into the cell and walked straight by the other two and sat against the wall. Alex just growled at him before walking over and kneeling down, Sam following close behind. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.”
“Liar” He only glared at her. “Are you sure you aren’t hurt?”He nodded,
“Well that was different,” Sam said sitting back on the mattress.
Alex only sighed and got back up. River was staring at his feet calmly, “he’s letting you guys go tomorrow.”
“What?”
“He’s letting you go; he has no use for you.” River said looking off.
“What will become of you?”
“Not important.”
“Yes it is.”
“Sam,” River said pointing his attention towards her, “If your mom asks, I was in a terrible motorcycle accident, my parents found me and I’ve been moved to a different city, but it was all kept very quiet because I crashed in the forest.” Alex balled up her fist and punched him across the face, blood from his mouth hit the floor. He said nothing.
“Don’t push me to the side Musha.” Alex said, “Listen, you are coming with us, I’m not leaving you to die.”
“By the time you wake up tomorrow, I will be gone.” River replied, Alex again growled, “What’s wrong Oceana, mad because things just won’t go your way?”
“I’m mad that I can’t even save one person that I care about.”
“I’m not person anymore, let that be what keeps that thought away.”
“I’m mad that I can’t save River Musha.”
“River Musha can’t be saved, even if I get out of here” He replied
“Listen you, I can't stand it when people try to run my life, and right now, you're tap dancing on my last nerve Musha”
“Maybe you should listen to me!” He barked, “I’m what these people call a winged warrior, my people are at warrior, even if I get out of here, I have to find them… and I have to help.”
“Then I’m coming with you, for sure.” He shook his head. She grabbed his shoulder, “I’m going with you River Musha..”
“No” he said bluntly slapping her arm away.
“River, I'm going, I got nothing to go back to and if I go with you, not only can I save your ass, I might be able to find my parents!”
“No” He said even more bluntly then before.
“you’re so infuriating!” She growled
“Too damn bad!” He replied, “I’m not even leaving this place.”
“Then neither am I”
“No you’re not staying here any goddamn longer.”
Alex got right back in his face, “I’m staying.”
“You’re not cause the longer you goddamn stay the s- NEVERMIND YOU’RE GOING!”
“Cause what?”
“You’re a winged warrior too.” River said taking her locket and opening it up, showing her a picture of herself, with the light blue wings from his dream.
“That’s impossible, I don’t have wings now.” Alex said looking at it, “obviously this is a tampered photo.”
“Well neither did I, princess, but oh look.” River held up a picture of him with his family, all of which had their wings out.
“I wonder if our families know each other.”
“Kinda hard not to know mine.”
“Why’s that?”
“I'm one of the sixth gen, children from Tenshi Musha, founder of the Tenshi clan, which we belong to, aka royalty” River said crossing his arms.
“Why haven’t my parents come to find me then? Why is your family trying to kill you?”
“Not my family blondie, my brother. And he’s a traitor.” River said cross his arms, “now you know why you have to go.”
“Now I know why I have to stay more.”
River stood up and pinned her to a wall. “We’re in an enemy compound, right now Alex.”
“I know that stupid! That’s why I want to help us get out of here and return to our families.”
“I’m with family, go home! You too Sam!” River barked as he stepped back
“I’m staying here with you, and you won’t make me go.”
“I’m not fighting you anymore, you’re going and there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it.”
“What is stopping him from coming back and using us against you?”
“We’re going to kill each other that’s what.”
“Over my dead body!”
“THAT’S IT!” River clocked her across the jaw. Sam stood back in shock, Alex stayed on her knees holding her jaw. “My brother and I can do so much worse than that.” Alex glared at him, eyes filled with anger and sorrow, tears brimming over her eyes.
“JERK!” She yelled launching at him. River only grappled her holding her in a standing pin, and mumbled nice try. “I don’t want you to die!”
“It’s my duty to my family.”
“You don’t have a duty to anyone but yourself!”
“Please don’t make me punch you again.”
“Go ahead! Do your worst! It won’t hurt nearly as much as your backstabbing!” River released her and pushed her forward then turned around and sat in front the cell door staring out. Alex wouldn’t look at him and just wouldn’t say anything. “I’m sorry.” He didn’t respond, “I just want you to be safe.” He didn’t reply for a few minutes.
“Go home and put this out of your mind.” He said coldly not looking back at her.
“Yeah, go home with my death on my conscious.”
“There never was a River Musha, it’s all just a dream.” River said, Alex just shook her head taking a step back. “Go home and tell yourself that every night.”
“No River!” She was actually crying this time.
“You’re not going to do any good here. Go home. You’re not going to be able to get me out. Go home, believe this was all fake.”
“River, you’re my best friend..” She said shaking her head to his statement, “I won’t believe.”
“I don’t exist. I’m not real, this is all just fake….. Keep telling yourself that. Tomorrow you’ll wake up in bed at Ms. V’s and this will all just be a dream.”
“River. Stop saying that.”
“Not until you believe it.”
“I’ll never believe it.”
“you have to.”
“I don’t want to…. I just… I just want to be with you.”
“Why?”
“Because I do..” River stood up shaking his head.
“I’m not real.” He repeated putting his head against the bars.
“You are.” Alex replied, he just shook his head again, she bowed her head. “River I…” He raised and eyebrow curiously. “I… like you… a lot.” She spoke,
His head begged him to say something smart; something that she’d remember, anything, all he could muster was, “Really?”
“Yeah, wanna make something of it?” She said looking away again. River just shook his head, his head told him to say yeah, something good but his mouth just wouldn’t say anything. This wasn’t the place… this wasn’t the time.
There was suddenly a tap on the outer wall; Sam looked up at the window. The other two were too distracted being hurt both physically and emotionally to pay any attention. Suddenly a sign came through, “get away from the wall.” Sam read aloud, “going to- oh my god they’re gonna blow it up!” Sam ran and planted herself against the bars. River finally snapped to attention and pulled Alex back as the concrete started to fly.
From out the dust came a figure, only about 5’6. It was a woman; she didn’t look older than twenty or so, her body hinted experience in battle as did her stance. She wore a baseball cap, a black t-shirt that was about a size too big , black pants, black shoes, almost everything about her was dark, her hair was black too! She smirked; except her flesh a creamy tan, then went she looked up here eyes almost yellow with red rings around them. “Come on morons, we’ve got to go.”
