Them
Chapter One

“I can't believe I let you talk me into this,” She sighed, swirling her straw around in her drink. She looked down at her watch, “He's not coming Pris, let's just go.” She stood and picked her bag up. “Not so fast,” Pris grabbed her wrist and yanked her back down again. “You're not escaping this time Jassie,” She grinned and winked. “Anyway, you might find him buff or something,”
“Yeah, emphasis on the might, come on Pris, do ya remember what happened last time you tried to hook me and a guy up?” Jas asked her, raising an eyebrow at her friend. “Yeah well, that a mistake, you two obviously had nothing in common with each other,” Pris said quickly.
“And what makes you think that this guy and I will?” Jas asked her.
“Well, you're both funny, and random and really weird…” She trailed of and shrugged. “I am not weird!” Jas said, her dark brown eyes widening slightly. Pris gave her a small smile and looked back out of the window. Her face broke into a smile and she waved at some one outside. “He's here Jassie babes,” She said glancing at her friend. “Which one is he?” Jas asked, looking out of the window, trying to guess which guy her friend had set her up with this time. “You'll find out,” Pris replied. The door twinkled as it opened and a tall guy stepped in. He smiled slightly and walked towards their table. “You're late,” Pris said, standing up and giving him a hug, he shrugged. “I missed the first bus,” He drew up a chair and sat down, his brown eyes trained on the girl sitting next to him. Pris smiled, noticing the direction of his eyes. “Harpz, this is Jassie, Jas this is Harpz,” She introduced them. They looked at each other for a few moments before nodding hi to each other. “So, we gonna catch that movie?” Harpz asked.
“We can't,” Pris said, taking a sip from her glass.
“Why not?”
“Because you're late,” Jas said, her eyes widening slightly once she had said it. “Sorry, I didn't mean it the way it came out,” She blushed slightly and looked down at her fingers. Harpz laughed. “It's okay; I get that a lot,” They sat in silence for a while, not really knowing what to say to each other. “Ah! Excuse me,” Jas stood up, her hand fumbling in the back pocket of her jeans. Pulling out her phone, she walked out of the shop and onto the pavement on front of it. Pris turned to Harpz, frowning slightly. “Well, what do you think?” She asked, resting her chin on the back of her hand. He gave a small smile. “She's hot,” He said simply, causing his friend to laugh. “I like the way you said that,” She said.
“Well, it's true, she is.” He shrugged. “But she doesn't say much does she?”
“Oh, yeah, she gets shy, give her some time, and you won't be able to shut her up, believe me, I've tried.” Pris ginned, turning her head to look out of the window.
Jas came back in, and picked up her bag. “Sorry guys, they need me back at the school,” She swung her bag over her shoulder.
“Why? What's going on?” Pris asked her.
“The guys need my help with decorating the art room,” She said, leaving a few coins on the table, next to her half empty drink. “Can't they do it themselves?” Pris asked her. She shook her head. “Nope, apparently I'm the only one who can do it,”
“I was about to say, why can't they ask Jalpa?”
“She's gone to London, and I'm the only one around here,”
“Can't you do it later?”
“No Pris, they have to lock up in a few hours and it takes so long to decorate the art room. I really am sorry Pris, Harpz.” She walked over to the door. “Another time, maybe,” She gave them each a small smile before stepping out onto the street.

She hurried through the empty park, cursing the weather under her breath. Rain poured down on her, soaking her to the skin. She shivered as an icy wind blew; rising goose bumps on her bare arms. “Jas!” She looked behind her, stopping when she saw someone running towards her. “Jas, God you walk fast,” He stopped in front of her, his hands resting on his knees, breathing hard. “Oh, Rick, hey,” She smiled at him. “What are you doing here? I thought you were at school?” She held her bag over her head, trying to stop her hair from getting any wetter. “You know, there's really no point in you doing that, you're hair's already soaked.” He said, pointing to her bag. She pulled a face and brought her bag back down, slinging it over her shoulder. “I thought you're supposed to be at school,” She said, moving out of the way as a bicycle came tearing down the path. He ran a hand through his wet, black hair, making it stand up. “Yeah, I'm supposed to be, but I'm running late,” He paused and looked around. “The guys are going to kill me, I was meant to bring some of the posters with me, but I forgot,”
“That's okay, we still have to do the backing before we put up the posters,” She said.
“Why are you here? Aren't you supposed to be on that blind date thing?” He asked her, as they started walking again. “Yeah I am, but Shane phoned me and asked me to go down to the school and help them out, they're behind schedule.” She gave a small smile. “Did you meet your mystery guy then?” Rick asked her, jumping over a puddle. “Yeah, I did actually,” She replied.
“How is he then? Do you like him?”
“He's okay I guess, I don't really know, we hardly said anything to each other.”
“Is he good-looking?” He winked at her and she blushed slightly, and hung her head as they walked. “Yeah,”
“I hear a `but' coming up…” He trailed off, catching the look on her face. “What's up with you?”
“Huh?” She looked up. “Oh, nothing, I was just thinking, about, um, the art room,”
“Liar,” He breathed, “What were you really thinking about?” They walked through the gates and onto a side road. “Was it that guy that Pris set you up with?” He asked, instantly guessing when she blushed again. “Yeah,” She replied, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “What were you thinking?” He teased, giving her a knowing smile. “What! You perverted boy!” She laughed. “It was nothing like that Rick, honest!” She held her hands up when he gave her a look. “It's just that, I don't know why Pris keeps on setting me up with all these guys, it's that I don't appreciate it, because I do. It's just that, I don't like any of them, well I do, I mean, a couple of them had fantastic personalities, but there was just… Just no spark, you know what I mean?” She asked him as they crossed the road. Rick nodded, letting her carry on. “And I don't even know how to tell her that I'm just not ready for a relationship yet.”
“You haven't been ready for the last seventeen years Jas,” Rick grinned.
“You're not funny Rick,”
