Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Through Harushi's Eyes ❯ Questions and Goodbyes ( Chapter 8 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Harushi soon figured out that her being there was a harsh punishment. All the other gods of death were all doing there own thing, so she could only see a few of the. Now that she was alone, she had more time to observe the strange creatures. They all looked different, but they had the same gothic theme to them. Some of them looked skeletal; some of them were just a blob. They all had sinister eyes, if they had eyes at all. Their skin looked mouldy, as it was either grey or black. They wore animal skin, rotten animal skin, and the jewels that Harushi had seen on the ground seemed to be a god of death fashion statement. The thing that stood out most though, was that every god of death she saw looked bored. Even a visitor wouldn’t be exiting for them. “Maybe their passion was killing, but they ran out of things to kill. How sad.” Harushi thought. Harushi soon found that her herself was bored. So, she stared to search the ground. There were so many things piled up on each other. It seemed that the ground would be miles below al the junk. The god of death that she first saw was approaching her slowly. Harushi didn’t notice.
“What are you doing?” the god of death asked, as if he’d never seen anyone doing this before. “Shouldn’t you be crying in hatred or pain?”
“Oh, I was just looking.” Harushi said as she looked through the junk for something interesting. “Oh, I forgot to ask what you name is.”
“My name. My name is Inoshi Yuro.” Yuro said as if he was reminiscing about something. “But if that is too hard to remember, you can call me Yuro.”
“Oh.” Harushi was busy examining a torn book. “Yuro, why is the sky always red?” Harushi asked. Yuro looked at the sky.
“The sky is red because everyone in this realm is... is...” Yuro couldn’t finish. Harushi seemed to know what he was going to say.
“Is cursed.” She said as she looked down solemnly.
“And if a normal non cursed human came in here, which is impossible, the sky would turn blue. But if a pure hearted person came, the moon would come out and the night sky would appear, the stars shining brightly.” Yuro said as if it was a poem.
“How beautiful. And sad.” Harushi looked at the sky too. After a while, Yuro wandered away from Harushi. She went back to her rummaging. Something cool felt her hand. She picked it up. It was a crystal ball, with hundreds of pentagon faces. It was beautiful. Harushi wiped some of the dust away. It was so shiny, yet it made no reflection. It glowed red because of the sky. Yuro eyed Harushi cleaning the ball. He started to laugh at her. But Harushi didn’t care, as she was busy cleaning the sphere. She looked carefully into the ball. Suddenly, a feeling of sorrow and anger came over her. “YUJI!!!” she screamed. What she saw in the ball, was Yuji sitting under the cherry blossom tree, next to Muri, as before. It was like a replay of what happened before her death. The only difference was that Muri reached to Yuji’s face. And they kissed. Harushi was gasping for breath, and her eyes widened. She couldn’t look away. The scene faded away from the ball. She turned to Yuro. “What is this?!” she yelled at him. He just laughed. Harushi was embarrassed that Yuro was still laughing. He stoped to explain.
“That is the glass of a god of death. He was a very bored god of death, so he spent his time making these glass balls. If you look around closely, there are hundreds of them.” Yuro said. Harushi looked around, and yes. He was right. There were hundreds of them. “You were bound to find one sometime. If you look into it, it shows your worst fear.” Yuro said this with a grin.
“This really is a punishment!” Harushi complained.
It was Harushi’s last day in the land of the gods of death. “You! Human! Come here” one of the gods of death ordered her. Harushi’s eyes were red from crying, as she had been looking into the glass ball for the whole five days. She got up, putting her hand to her head. “Come with me.” It said as it started walking up towards a cliff. Harushi followed him. When they got to the top, they met up with Yuro.
“What is it?” Harushi asked.
“It is now time for you to leave.” Yuro said. This stunned Harushi, as she had completely forgotten about leaving. She suddenly realised that she was meant to jump off the cliff. She slowly walked up towards the edge. “Wait. I must tell you something before you leave.” Yuro said.
“Tell me what?” asked Harushi, not looking back at him.
“That-Yuji. He is not a human. He is different, but the rest is for you to find out.” Yuro explained, this time of his own will.
“WHAT?!” Harushi yelled as she turned around to face Yuro, but the floor started to fall under her feet. The edge of the cliff was crumbling. “Wait!! Yuji is?!” Harushi yelled at the top of her voice, but the noise of the crumbling cliff was too loud. Harushi saw Yuro’s mouth move, but she couldn’t hear the words. Harushi tried to climb up the cliff, eager to know what Yuro said, but the cliff kept falling. She soon gave in to her painless death. Everything faded away.
