Chapter 4

I was getting very frustrated, it was Spanish class. As Jess said Zack was here, but I hadn't had the chance to talk to him. It was like he was avoiding her, like he knew she wanted to talk to him so he ran away.
I took a deep breath, surely I could talk to him after school, catch him walking to his car, yeah that's what I'll do.
The final bell rang and we were dismissed. I grabbed my books and left. When I reached my locker I threw my books in my book bag and half-ran outside. I looked around the front yard, then I saw him, he was walking to a black pickup truck. "Hey!" I yelled and ran to him. When I was at his side I started talking. "Hey Zack I just wanted to thank you for what happened Friday, And Frank wants to thank you too-" Zack opened his door and got in.

He appeared like he wasn't listening, or like I wasn't there. I frowned at him. "Zachariah Donors!" Zack stared at me, shock and disbelief written clearly all over his face. "Thank you. You can have a free pizza anytime." Zack just stared at me, his lips slightly separated. What? Did I say something wrong?
"Um so thanks" I said. Zack looked frozen. "Zack are you okay?"I asked, worried. He didn't respond. He didn't even blink. Maybe if I touch him he'll snap out of it. I thought. I reached my hand out to touch his shoulder. When my finger was only an inch away from his arm white lightning appeared between our skin. It was bright and my finger felt numb.

It stayed for a second and then was gone. I gasped and pulled my hand back quickly. What just happened? I looked at him for the answer. He wasn't frozen anymore but he had the same look of confusion on his face. He didn't know what happened either.

"There you are! We've been looking all over for you." I turned around. Jessica stood there with her hands on her hips. " Sorry" I said dazed. Then she looked behind me. "Oh" She said it like it explained everything. A smile lit her face. Then I heard a door slam and an engine turning on.

I turned around and watched at Zack backed up and drive away."Oooooh! What happened? Tell me everything!" Jess said as the truck went out of sight. I was speechless. I looked down at my hand. I flipped it over. Weird. My hand still looked normal, but I felt different. I felt like energy was blazing through my body in a warm current. What was that lightning and what did it do to me? I blinked utterly confused. I knew Jess was talking to me but I couldn't hear her, my mind was in shock. I looked at Jess's moving lips. I stared at her worried face. I blinked 3 times in a row. I felt so different, so weird. But it was a good feeling. My brain had trouble comprehending the lightning and the feeling I was having now.

Suddenly I heard Jessica. "...okay. Dylan she looks like she's in shock. I don't think she can hear me." Dylan shook my shoulder gently. I didn't realize he had come. "Lyssa," His voice purred. "Lyssa can you hear me? Are you okay?" I looked at him. Was I okay? I had to think about that. "I'm not sure." I answered his question. "Lyssa what happened??" Jess asked. "I-I-I don't know" I answered honestly.

"Crap!" I grabbed Jess's arm. "I'm gonna be late for work" I cried. "She nearly gives me a heart attack and she's worried about work? Yep she's back to normal." Jessica complained. "Let's get go' in" I snapped. Dylan just looked at me and then he sighed. "I gotta get home. Catch ya later!" he called as he jogged to his car.

Jess drove to work in silence. When we arrived she asked, in a whisper, "What happened? I-I thought you were hurt- you didn't answer me-and you had this weird expression on your face." "I don't even know what happened. Just pretend it didn't okay?" "Fine"

I got out of the car and she skid away. I walked into pizza palace and was greeted by Blondie, she ran into me. "oh my gosh. I'm so happy. We're gonna have so much fun, I know it." "Honey. Let go of Lyssa, we haven't asked her yet." Franks voice came from behind the counter. Memo walked up to me. "Hey sweetie can we talk to you for a minute?" She asked with a kind voice. "Sure." I answered. She motioned for me to sit at a table as Frank walked up and sat down. I sat down too. "What do you need?" I asked. Memo blushed.

Frank looked at her, then at me. "We want to ask you a favor." He said. "Anything" I replied. "Well ya see, um, Memo has an out-of-state doctor's appointment, so's I was wonderin if ya would like to watch Crissy for a couple of days, till we get back. And I really want to keep the Palace open so if you could take care of Crissy and run the Palace I'd be very grateful. I'll get somebody else to make the pizza's I just need you to waitress and manage to keep an eye on things?" I smiled. "Of course I will, I am a godmother and the manager for a reason right?" Frank laughed. "Yes you are" He agreed. "We really appreciate it sweetling" Memo added.

"Oh! um one question. Will I be staying at your house or will Crissy be staying at mine?" I asked. "I didn't think about that, um, I guess you girls can choose." Memo replied. "Yours!" Crissy said happily. "Okay I guess we'll stay at mine then." I said. Then I smiled. Crissy was in the sixth grade. "okay we'd better get to work, oh wait, when are you guys leaving?" Memo blushed again.

"Um tomorrow, but early. So I was wondering if you could take her tonight. We'll probably be back by Wednesday or Thursday." Frank answered. "Oh David! You should probably call and get permission Lys. I wouldn't want you to get into trouble." Frank said.

Then five people walked in. Memo rolled her eyes. "Back to work, thanks Lys. We owe you." "No problem, anytime." I assured her as I got up. "I'll get them" Memo said. Crissy smiled and hugged me. I hugged her back.

I went to the counter and grabbed my cell out of my bag. I went outside. I dialed the very familiar number to my house phone. Riiing. Riiiing. "Hello?" " Hey daddy" "Hey Lyssa what's up?" "Well Frank and Memo gotta go outta town for a little while and they were wondering if I could watch Crissy while they're gone.

"OF COURSE! Why didn't you say so sooner? Course she can come over, I miss our little Blondie. Do you know when she's coming?" "Yeah when you pick me up you'll just pick her up too." "Okay, cool. Wait what about her clothed?" "Actually I'm not sure but we'll figure it out." A group of three went inside. "Well okay. You'd better get back to work. I'll see ya in a couple hours." "Yeah, bye dad." "Bye Lyssa"

Lyssa walked inside and put her things away. And she grabbed her apron and notepad. Work was normal, nothing happened. At 10:00 David came in. "Hey dad!" I called. "Hey David! What's up?" Frank called. "Nothin Frank." He answered. "I got my stuff already!" Crissy called. She ran up and hugged David. "Hey Blondie" He greeted. "Hey unca David." Crissy said.

"So we ready to go?" He asked. "Uh-huh" Crissy answered. "Okay." He said. "Wait! You better get back here and tell your father goodbye!" Frank commanded. "And your mother" Memo added. Crissy rolled her eyes but ran to give them hugs.

We Said goodbye and walked out the door.
