Chapter 5

Carter looked at the Frasier house with rage in his eye. He was ready to pounce, his mate right by his side. Jane exited the house, stretching in the morning light, going about starting her day. She went to the mail box, completely unaware that the enemy was near. They were downwind of her, so she would not smell them. They were on a neighbors roof, very visible, yet Jane was not paying attention to her surroundings. As they drew their blades, they were stopped by a familiar presence. They turned to see a figure, cloaked in a raggedy black robe, no part of their body was visible.

“ Y-You?!” declared Amala to the being, who simply laughed at her cowardice.

“Yes, I reveal myself to you again, but for a warning. Their is a barrier protecting the house, you will die if you try to enter.” she explained, her voice sounded old and withered, as if her time had long past.

“How do you know, Malisa?” asked Carter, not fully trusting the woman that black mailed them into this job.

“I'm a witch, I can see another witches work a mile away, especially one weaker than me. I've waited for this time for nearly a thousand years. I don't want a simple mistake to ruin my plans again. Though this barrier is amateur at best, it will still take a day or two to break it, then you will strike with my children” said Malisa, disappearing into a mist that swallowed her.

“For a fallen witch, she sure is powerful!” complained Carter.

“I thought Striga were suppose to be shells of their former selves. That their desire and need to become immortal was so great it corrupted them and cursed their body for all eternity.” said Amala.

“Yes this is true, they can only do certain magic, their main gift is the ability to suck the life force out of mortal souls and add it to their own increasing their lifespans. The Eurain Coven tried to wipe them out nearly a thousand years ago, and banned any teachings of immortality to weaker minded witches. However, many survived the purge and went into hiding, some survivors are said to be as old as the Original Vampires.” explained Carter, stretching his bones from watching the house all day.

“So what your saying is we're screwed? And what about her 'children'?” asked Amala, concerned about the turn of events. Carter just shook his head and ran away in a blur, his faithful wife following him, waiting for the time to strike.

The Atlantis Coven, the most powerful witch coven in North America, was headquartered in Atlanta. Janie, mother of Jamie, was a member of this prestigious Coven. There was always one Coven that was more powerful and had more sway in 'politics' than the others, usually one per continent. However even the Atlantis Covens Council of Witches took its orders from the Eurain Coven. They were rumored to be in Europe, and their strength alone prevented the werewolves from pushing the witches out of that continent. Janie approached the Elders, the leaders of the Atlantis Coven, all six were present. All Covens are governed by the six most powerful and wise witches of the region. There were six Original Witches, hence the reason that there are always six witch Elders ruling a Coven. The strongest Witch of its generation, and the Leader of their respective Coven, eventually become members of the Eurain Coven.

The Eurain Coven High Council consists of the six most powerful witches of all six major covens of the world: Atlantis, Edan, Babylon, Sumer, Teotihuacán, and Oea. Usually the Leader of these Covens were in Europe, but the Leader of Atlantis was present, for this particular event.

“Hello Janie, we have heard of these events from the High Council of North America, what do you need us to do?” asked Mildred, Leader of the Atlantis Coven, and member of the High Council of the Eurain Coven.

“Really?? You're just going to give me the resources needed to deal with this breach of Vampire and Witch Law?” asked Janie in disbelief. Many Vampire and Witch Laws were linked or shared common reasonings. The only know werewolf law was for no other Prime Dark Race to inhabit Europe under penalty of death.

“Alena, Original of North America has already sent word to me about these events. She personally requested that I aid all that I can. I have also spoken to the other members of The High Council of the Eurain Coven. They are allowing me to grant you equal resources to put an end to this threat to the Order. You have the full support of the Atlantis Coven, however, Sister Laneia, will take command” explained Mildred, pointing to one of the members of the Council. Laneia was known for her skill at killing multiple enemies in a single attack. She would be useful and her wisdom would be necessary.

“Very well Master. But why does the Eurain Coven take such great interest into these rogue vamps?” asked Janie, confused about all the sudden generosity. Mildred was about to explain when George, another member, cleared his throat. Male witches were called many things, but none more than wizards and warlocks.

“This rogue group of vamps have been around for more than five centuries. According to what we've been told by Mildred and the other Eurain High Council members is startling. They have reason to believe that a group of Striga are controlling this Clan. Though there are very few Striga left, this is cause for alarm. There must be a reason for them doing this. The vampires do not know this, and mustn't know. When we aid them, we are doing this for our benefit. You must capture the leader of the Striga, and get information out of her, to lead us to the rest. This is a secret mission given to us by the Eurain Coven itself. Bring her to us!” said George, as Janie left with Lenia, to prepare for the mission that would start once the Slayers arrived, tonight.

Samantha, was preparing dinner for her family, when Ronald walked in the door with a huge smile on his face. Jane, Marcus, and Kiara all ran up to him, hugging him with great force. Samantha simply smiled, her happiness was so great it made her cry. While immersed in conversation, Matthew and three Slayers entered, their very presence chilled the room. You could tell they were cold, though you couldn't see their expression due to their full body armor. The children backed up, not liking their presence. They smelled old, and they could taste death around them, they were truly fearsome.

“Family, this is Matthew, Leader of the Slayers and Councilmen of the High Council of North America.” said Ronald. Matthew smiled warmly, but the family was still uneasy, they've never been around such old vampires. Samantha walked up and shook his hand, and introduced herself and her children by name to him. It was scary, but a great honor to meet these skilled warriors. Marcus, sensing the chance to become more skilled, requested to join the ranks of the Slayers. Matthew, laughed, saying he would need to be at least seven centuries old to be considered for a place with the basic Vampire Security of the High Council, a minimum of 4,000 years to be considered for the Slayers. No vampire force could handle the teamwork of the Slayers. The oldest vampires were already part of the High Council, so only a war between Council's could cause the eldest generations to be killed.

While they were going over battle plans, the sickening feeling returned. This time it was different, as the barrier that protected the house, was broken. At that moment, several grenades were tossed through the window, exploding, and filling the house with vaporized Holy Water, and several air borne pathogens that could harm a vampire. The Slayers, were safe, due to their vented air masks, they drew their steel blades for combat. The family wasn't so lucky. Almost instantly, they began to be hurt by the deadly combination. They had to leave immediately, Ronald taking his family through the back. The Slayers quickly followed, but were distracted by Carter, emerging from the shadows, and shooting down one of the Slayers with Holy Water filled shotgun shells. The Slayer succumbed to the bullets, quickly dieing.

“Get your family out of here, we shall handle him!” shouted Matthew, facing Carter. Ronald and his family quickly ran through the streets, heading to the safe zone: an abandoned warehouse, protected by magic. As they ran off, a Slayer quickly tried to take Carter down, his speed and strength would make it easy to be sure. However, he was stopped, and flung into a wall by a cloaked figure.

“A Striga??!!” declared Matthew in awe, the other two Slayers joining his side. They didn't expect to run into this Dark Race. They had Iron bullets, but the only way to permanently kill one would to shoot it in the heart while it is feeding. But the chances of that were slim at best.

“Let's not be too loud Slayers, we wouldn't want to wake the neighbors!” laughed Malisa, as dozens of people gathered in the streets. These weren't the normal residents though, they had all been turned into vampires. Though they were new vampires, Matthew suspected that their strength and speed were trumped up to gain the advantage over the battle. Over head, dozens of Striga flew above, heading for the Frasier Family. Some stayed above, to help the vampires. The situation was bleak, even for the Slayers.

“Now Matthew, it is time” screeched Malisa, as the vampires charged at the Slayers. Matthew was confused how she knew his name, but had no time to think. The Slayers easily killed many, but the Striga interference was irritating. Though some were gunned down, they fled into nearby buildings to kill and feed. Once done, they returned to attack the Slayers. Malisa and several Striga flew to catch up with the Frasier family, as the rest and Carter attacked the Slayers. One Slayer was pinned, the Striga ripping his organs out one by one. Matthew killed a vampire, and ran for the warehouse, the other Slayer following. Carter and the other pursued, but in vain, due to their speed.

They were so close, until Amala appeared, wielding a wooden stake. They stopped the grenades still affecting their system, they couldn't stop her attack. She separated the family, and flung Kiara into a tree. She stood over her, and prepared to stab the young girl fatally. But Amala was flung into a wall across the street by Janie and a group of witches. Very slowly they killed her with the Strain technique, causing her to bleed out.

“Quickly, heal them, they are infected with holy water and pathogens!” yelled Janie, as witches began to heal their wounds and create a barrier.

As Matthew and the other Slayer neared the warehouse, Matthew was closed lined by an unknown assailant. The last Slayer was ripped in half by strong magic, stronger than that of a Striga. Malisa and the other Striga surrounded Matthew and clawed at his flesh. Matthew quickly began gunning down the enemy with Iron bullets, turning the tide.  Malisa attacked Matthew fiercely with her strength and speed, but Matthew easily countered, shooting her in her stomach and pinning her to a tree with Iron stakes. She screamed in pain, and cursed him in an ancient dialect. The other Striga disappeared into the tree tops, blending into the dark shadows.

“You are well equip to handle Striga. Tell me, how did you know we would be here?!” asked Malisa, between coughs. She was critically wounded, but she wouldn't die. Matthew threw off her cloak to reveal her hideous face. Blood was coming from her mouth, and as she coughed, more came out.

“The Eurain Coven couldn't hide their intel that Striga might be controlling the Durden Clan. When Amala heard of this, she told me to come prepared for you. Now tell me. Why are you doing this?” demanded Matthew, jabbing an iron stake into her fresh stomach wound, causing her to scream.

She laughed, “To please my master!” she declared to Matthew.

“Who is your Master?”

“My Master is the Lord of all Striga!!!” screamed Malisa, as Matthew jumped back in horror. He couldn't have believed what he just heard. It was an impossible fact he couldn't grasp.

“Impossible!” he declared to the weakened Malisa, who looked as if she was on the verge of death. He quickly turned to see Carter and the other vampires surround him, preparing to kill him quickly.

“Noooo!! My master wants him alive!” Malisa shouted as she ordered them to destroy the Frasier Clan. Before they left a cloaked figure appeared beside Malisa, and removed the stake from her arm, and the bullet from her stomach. Carter and the others left at the smell of the newcomer vampire, due mainly from their fear. She smelled old, older than Matthew. Matthew smelled her, an instantly got a knot in his stomach. He leaped in the air, wielding his blade to strike down the new enemy, only to be kicked in the stomach by the enemy, Matthew being sent through an oak tree. The tree collapsed quickly, and made a loud thud sound.

“Master, I've brought you the one you seek!” said Malisa, bowing low to the ground, as not to look upon her master.

“Excellent, you've done well. Feast on the mortals, regain your strength and come back here, I may need your assisstance.” said the vampire, the voice showing it to be a female.

“Do you know who I am?” she asked, walking around Matthew like a lion circling its prey.

“I have a feeling!” said Matthew, preparing to fight or run.

“Yes, you are old, however, you were not around during the Great War of the Prime Races. That was a terrible time, and its conclusion led to the deportation of all vampires from Europe. Lucky for us, humans didn't catch wind of the war, or we would have to destroy all of them. I was there, I turned the tide. My partners lead way to a treay being side, you know of that treaty, don't you?” asked the woaman, who was revealing much information to him, confirming his belief.

“Yes I do. I also know of your group, and you, Isabel, was the only one to escape. You don't know what would happen if the general Dark populace were to discover this classified information on the Originals and the Eurain Coven. It would be anarachy, or worse, another war. Give up now, and turn yourself into the High Council's.” demanded Matthew, though he knew she wouldn't listen, and he would need help taking her down.

“You already know my answer. I seek revenge against those who betrayed me and my family. You are the person who will help me relieve that dream!” said Isabel, snickering at the thought.

“I'll never help you.”

“You don't have to willingly. You and Amala were the ones who buried my partner, and my pet. All I need is their location. I know they are in this country. Amala personally wanted to watch them, and she let you join in on the fun. Which was bad for her. I knew she would send you to handle such a problem, rogue vamps, Striga, and possible exile of the witches out of her region for withholding information. She couldn't leave it up to chance, so she sent you. She wants more than anything to downsize the Atlantis Coven, she wants no share of power with the witches.” she explained her master plan, before rushing Matthew, and sinking her teeth into his neck, draining him of his memories.

Only the elite old vampires, ones that would be seated on the High Council, Slayers, and the Original themselves could use this gift. They used it to gain knowledge and information from anyone they bit. Some consider it an involuntary reflex when it came to feeding. In a matter of minutes, she learned of the locations she desired, and the location for the High Council. Her bite was venomous to other Dark Races, a unique trait only she possessed. His entire left side became limp, as it began to paralyze and shut down his organs, which would kill him in a few minutes. She searched his body, he struggled in vain to stop her, and she found a cell phone, which had the direct line to call Amala herself.

“Before I kill you, I shall make sure Amala is none the wiser.” laughed Isabel, calling the phone. It rang for a few moments when Amala picked up.

“Amala, I shall return in a few days, the situation is under control, however, we lost the rogues. They are dead!” said Isabel in Matthew's voice, sounding exactly the same. Amala said a few words of thanks, and hung up.

“Now that will by me time to awaken my partners, and kill Amala, without a chance of a full defense” laughed Isabel when Janie and the other witches came, to see Matthew on the ground and an enemy standing before him. They sensed the danger immediately, and took extra precaution.
