Gia came home two weeks later with her test in hand. She ran inside and slammed it on Leo's desk even though he wasn't home. It was a large A and she wanted it to be the first thing he saw. Running to her room, she quickly dressed in her uniform and started studying. It was several hours later before Leo came home. He went to set his paperwork down, and almost covered up the piece of paper on his desk. With a small pause, he looked down and smiled as he saw her test. Taking it, he set his paperwork down and knocked on her room. "Gia? Are you awake?"

Gia's eyes snapped open and she sat up at her desk. Quickly she stood. "Yes, Master!"

He opened up the door, stopping as he took in her in her uniform. "That outfit really looks nice on you."

"Thank you," she smiled.

"I saw your test. Excellent score, and as such you shall be rewarded tomorrow."

"Oh thank you!"

"A deal is a deal," he smiled. "Unfortunately I can't take you a top end retailer, but I will take you someplace nice to shop. How does a hundred dollars sound to spend on clothes?"

"A hundred dollars?!? That's too much!"

He shook his head. "No. You've earned it."

"Thank you, Master!"

"You are very welcome," he smiled, glad to see that she was so happy.

She quickly hugged him tightly.
"I will continue to make perfect grades!" Hurrying from him, she went to take a shower.

He was only briefly able to stare down at her in shock as she hugged him. When she went to the shower, he smiled. At least he was helping her in what little ways that he could. Gia woke in the morning and was standing by the car before Leo, waiting for the big day. Leo rubbed his eyes as he made his way to the car.
"You look chipper this morning," he smirked as he opened the door for her.

"I'm excited!"

He laughed and crawled into the limo beside her. "I'm glad." Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out a crisp hundred dollar bill for her.

She looked at it with wide eyes.
"Wow..."

"It is yours to use how you wish," he told her. "Though for the purpose of today it shall be spent toward purchasing clothes."

"I will spend it wisely!"

Soon they were pulling into the mall and he got out with her. Going to one of the basic departments, he walked with her to the girl's department. She freaked when she saw all the clothes. Her squeal could be heard around the whole place. Running to the dresses she pulled out a few things, watching prices and colors. Taking a seat by the changing room, he watched her with a careful eye as she examined everything. He took it that this was her first time actually being able to shop. Perhaps he should have given her more money. After trying on outfit after outfit and doing the math in her head, her total came to exactly one hundred dollars. Not a penny more or a penny less.

"Very impressive." While she had been trying on her clothes, he had stepped out to get his own package. With it neatly tucked beneath his arm, he took her bags as well. "Did you enjoy yourself?"

"Yes, thank you."

"You're welcome, Gia. Though honestly you have no one to thank but yourself. You worked hard and you earned that money. As long as you continue to do well, I will continue to reward you."

"Then I will continue!"

"Good." Once they were in the car, he handed her the package he had been carrying. "This is for you."

"For me? What is it, Master?" she asked as she opened it.

"It is a new nightgown. It is made of silk," he explained.

She pulled it out and ran her hand over it. A smile appeared on her lips as she hugged it closely.
"I will treasure it forever, since you picked it out."

"Do you really like it? I hope it is not too revealing for you. It just seems that is the style now a days."

"I love it! I love it so much!"

He grinned at that, his eyes twinkling with appreciation. "I am very glad."

She kept the gown hugged to her while she looked over the small details on it. Soon they were back home and he helped her carry her bags to her room. She quickly put her maid uniform on then started hanging and filling her drawers with her new things.

"You know that you do not have to wear your uniform unless you are working."

"I like to wear it. And I am working," she smiled.

"Very well. I have to go back into work in an hour. Enjoy your day off from school."

"Yes, Master."

He left her to play with her new clothes while he finished looking over the reports for last week. Stifling a small yawn, he found that the lack of sleep was starting to grow on him. He was soon fast asleep at his desk. Gia worked in her room for a while, then at lunch, she made Leo something and brought it up to him. She smiled when she saw him sleeping, so she covered the food and left it there for him.

It was several hours later before he began to stir. A small yawn escaped his lips and when he lifted his head, papers clung to his face. His eyes widened when he realized what time it was. It was nearly dinner and he hadn't gone to work! He became frantic and quickly called the office to let them know that he was coming in right then. Of course they told him that they were fine, but he had already wasted too much time.

Gia hummed to herself while she scrubbed the floors with a smile. She had been busy all day and really didn't mind.

"Gia? You left me food, why didn't you wake me?" he asked as he fixed his tie and suit.

She looked up as she sat on her knees.
"You hadn't slept much... I just wanted you to sleep."

He sighed and shook his head. "I don't need sleep. I need to get back to work."

"Yes, Master..."

Looking down at her, his face softened. "I am not upset.... Just next time, wake me please."

"Yes, Master," she nodded.

"I didn't get a chance to eat, so feel free to help yourself to that meal."

She nodded and picked up the rag then started cleaning again. He was gone after that, and didn't return until early the next morning. For the first time in months, he'd actually been able to affect the stock prices. His new business format was a risk, but investors were looking into it with interest. Going to his room, he collapsed on his bed, not bothering with his clothes as he stared up at the large LED clock on his roof. The numbers ticked away slowly, counting down to zero.

Gia woke in the morning and got ready for class. She went down to the car and got in, waiting for Leo. That morning, Leo never came. Rosemarie, walked to the car and tapped on the glass. "You can go ahead and take her to school," she told the driver.

Gia stared out the window as they drove off. Her hands pressed to the glass like a lost child. Rosemarie gave her a small wave before hurrying off back inside.

Gia went through school with a moppy face. She hung her head low through the halls though her work was done without fail as always. At the end of the day, it started raining and crowded. Everyone was trying to get to their cars, so she had to push past them, falling three times in puddle after puddle before finally getting to the car. She was soaked and she had no raincoat or boots that day. Thankfully, all her books were dry and safe, having wrapped them in tones of plastic bags.

When she got home, Rosemarie was there to greet her as always. "Are you okay? You look upset," she said, handing her a towel to dry off with as if she had predicted the accidents.

"I'm all wet!" she said with a stomp. "I just...just...got these..." she sneezed, "clothes!"

"Oh dear. You'd better get out of those clothes before you get sick," she said while leading her to her room. She stripped out of the clothes sneezing and coughing. "Here, put on your warm night gown and some fresh underwear," Rosemarie said while handing her the clothes. "Lay down and I'll check your temperature." She did as she was told, shaking and crawling in bed. Once she was in bed, Rosemarie put a thermometer in her mouth. After waiting a few minutes she pulled it back. "You're burning up," she said. "I'll get you some medicine. You stay put."

While she was gone, Gia pulled out her books and started to study. Though, with the sneezing and coughing, it was hard to focus. A hand reached out and pulled her book from her. Setting it aside, Leo placed a hand on her shoulder and laid her back down.
"You are sick. Forget about studying for now," he said, offering her a smile.

"But I have a test on Friday," she said as she coughed and rested on the pillow, slowly closing her eyes.

"Not if you are too sick to go," he said. Tucking some of her hair behind her face, he looked to Rosemarie as she entered. Taking the medicine from her, he poured some on a spoon and sat down on the bed beside her. "Open your mouth." She opened her mouth slowly, her eyes meeting his with adoration. He let the liquid slip into her throat. Once he was certain she'd taken it all, he set the medicine aside and moved to tuck her in more. "Rest," he told her. "I'll...be home a little more for the next few days because Rosemarie is going to visit some relatives. I will do what I can to take care of you."

"Yes...Master..." she whispered as she closed her eyes.

"Good girl." He caressed her cheek with a smile before standing.

In the morning, Gia was worse than ever. Her temperature had skyrocketed and she was miserable. Once Leo woke up, he heard her coughing all the way from his room. Going down to where she was, he took out the bottle of medicine and told her to sit up. Propping the pillow behind her back, he sat down beside her and let her take her medicine.
"Tell me your symptoms," he said.

"Coughing...chest pain...fever...can't breathe...well..." she said between coughs and wheezing.

"Let me see how warm you are." Taking her chin, he pulled her toward him and pressed his lips to her forehead to check her fever.

She closed her eyes and leaned into him.
"My...first...kiss..."

He glanced down at her, smiling as he caressed her cheek. "That is just the fever talking," he whispered. "The medicine should help to ease the congestion. All you need is lots of sleep and fluids."

She clung to his shirt. "Don't leave me alone..."

"If you want, I can stay with you until you fall asleep," he said, stroking her back comfortingly.

She nodded and leaned against him. A soft sigh escaped his lips as her small, warm body relaxed against him. Moving her with him, he leaned against her headrest while she curled against him. Taking out his phone, he began managing some files from where he was while letting one hand stroke her to help her calm down and sleep. She slipped to sleep once again, but her fever didn't break. It went higher with each passing hour.

Her skin was almost too hot to touch. He had to get her fever down and help her body cool off. Slipping out of bed, he scooped her tiny frame against him and carried her to the bathroom. Turning on the cold water, he let the bath fill up.
"Gia, it's about to get really cold," he whispered as he slid her body into the tub.

Gia's eyes snapped open and she gripped him tightly.
"Cold!"

"I know, but we have to break your fever," he said while letting the water climb up her legs. She shook against him and whimpered while she coughed. Once he had her submerged up to her chest, he took a rag and ran it over her arms. "Once this is over you can curl up into a nice warm blanket," he promised.

She shivered and cried gripping the tub very hard.
"Gia, try to relax." He caressed her face with care, trying to show her some compassion. He knew that this was hard. Her body was burning up, but she was already freezing before the cold water.

She couldn't relax. It was so cold and her face was so

hot. She just wanted to sleep so badly. She was so tired. It was nearly thirty minutes in the freezing water before her fever finally broke. Wrapping his arms around her, he pulled her out of the tub, getting soaked in the process, all while letting her collapse against him. Taking a towel, he let her curl up in it before he took her to her bed. She cried softly against him, coughing and wheezing.

"We need to get you in some warm clothes. Do you think you can stand and get dressed?" She shook her head. Standing was too much thinking. All she cared about was getting warm. He pursed his lips but nodded. "If you can't get dressed then I will have to undress you and dress you myself. Do you understand?"

She nodded. Grabbing his tie, she moved her lips to his ear. "Pneumonia..." she whispered.

He nodded slowly. "
That is what I am afraid of," he sighed. Looking down at her body, he bit his lip, his eyes meeting hers as he pulled the blanket back revealing her wet form. His hands took the edge of her nightgown and slowly began to pry it from her wet flesh.

She wheezed against him. Her heavy hands raised so he could lift it over her head. She was studying to be a nurse. Of course she knew that sometimes, assisstance was needed and it was better to not fight about it when one is ill.

Taking her gown off, he tossed it to the ground. He tried to avoid gazing at her chest which was heaving slowly due to her labored breathing
. "I've to take off your wet panties now," he said softly, instructing her to lay down so he could do that as well. She laid back, closing her eyes as she blushed brightly and tried to focus on her breathing. His hands slid to the rims of your panties. Taking a deep breath, he looked away as he pulled her underwear down. Tossing them aside, he turned to her room. "Where do you keep your underwear?"

"Top...dresser..."

He moved over to it and pulled out a pair of panties for her. "I'll be right back," he promised. Disappearing down the hall, he came back with his largest, fluffiest, and warmest house coats. Taking her panties, he swallowed hard as he made her lift her legs. His eyes shifted down to between her legs as she exposed herself to him. Taking another breath to calm himself, he froze as he felt a tingle in his throat. Clearing his throat, he slid her panties down until they were where they needed to be. Next, he took her small form and moved it into his house coat, wrapping it up around her to keep her warm.

She opened her eyes and looked at him.
"Thank...you..."

He smiled down, his wet clothes hung to him as he pulled her against him. "You are welcome."

She wheezed into his chest, her body feeling like it was full of rocks. Her chest hurt badly and she was doing her best to hang on so she wouldn't be hospitalized. He moved her against him, all but cradling her as she sat in his lap and leaned against him. He tried to keep her up so that she could breathe better, but he could tell that it was hard for her to do anything at the moment. If this kept up past the night he would have no choice but to take her to the hospital. Eventually, her fever came back while she slept and her breathing only became worse.

He sighed as he heard her raspy breathing. Scooping her up, he called for his limo. He couldn't risk her health any further. She had to get to the hospital. Gia woke with IVs, a breathing mask, and a feeding tub. She couldn't talk, but she knew where she was. How long had she been sleeping?

Leo pressed a hand to her cheek, a smile gracing his lips.
"You've finally woken. The doctors thought you would be out for a lot longer. I had to take you to the hospital last night. You have slept through most of the day."

She opened her mouth to speak, but remembered she couldn't. Reaching bye the bed, she grabbed a pen and piece of paper. "Thank you for taking care of me. I will work off the bill anyway needed."

He smiled at her while shaking his head. "Do not worry about the bill. I am simply glad that you will be alright."

"I am more of a burden than a maid..."

"Do not worry or think such things. People get sick.... It is a fact of life and not something we can control." She sighed and closed her eyes with a nod. Leaning over her, he pressed his lips to her forehead. "Your temperature is normal now. Hopefully you will be able to go home soon."

She moved her hand over his and leaned in closer. He smiled and stroked her cheek to comfort her. Her fingers wrapped in his and the door swung open. Quickly she pulled back. "There you are. I've been calling your cell all day. I was told you were here with the maid. Looks as if she has been giving you trouble," Katherine said as she walked in. She looked over at him. "I took care of her bill. God knows you can't add that to your list of things."

"I was quite capable of paying for her bill," he assured her. "She's gotten sick from all the rain, so I had to bring her in so that the doctors could take a look at her."

"I'm sure. Well it's done now. If she is such a burden, just send her back. God knows I hate children anyways," she said. Gia's eyes widened in fear.

"I will not send her back. She's already gotten comfortable here. I've paid for her tuition in advance and she is doing well in school, I see no reason to send her back."

"Whatever. It's your money." She waved it off. "However when we are married all that will change. Dinner Saturday at seven. Don't be late," she said and walked out.

"Yes dear...." He sighed as she walked out. Shaking his head, he glanced down at Gia, noticing the wide eyed look of fear. "Do not worry. You aren't going anywhere."

"Who...is that?” she wrote.

"She...is my fiancée."

"You...are getting married? When?"

"Sometime in the fall. We really haven't talked about it much. Katherine is the one who will end up deciding when she wants to have it."

"Do you love her?"

He paused before smiling. "I would like to think that I do. Maybe in time, I will."

"How can you marry someone you don't love?!? And she doesn't like kids! Don't you want children someday?"

"Yes, I would like children someday.... But what we want is not always what we get. Sometimes you have to do things to help others that are more important than yourself. Our time is fleeting on this world, and the greatest gift we can give is to do the most good we can while we are on it."

She placed her hand on his before writing again. "To cheat your heart is like giving up on living all together..."

He was quiet as he read her words over and over again. Finally when he looked back at her, there was a sad smile on his face. "Yes... but in doing so, I help so many people, and that is more important than my own heart."

"How can you help others when you can't help yourself?"

He squeezed her hand and took her paper. "Rest. Remind me and I will explain it to you when you are better." She sighed but nodded.

He took a seat beside her, holding her hand all the while.
