Author's Notes: Um hi? Please don't kill me for the late update? I
was out of town until Monday and then things got crazy because I'm
starting a temporary job next week so I had to go in for a drug
test. And classes start next Tuesday, so yeah. I will be updating
on Sunday again, don't worry. This is one of my favorite chapters
so far. It was fun to write. Also, one last thing. I haven't
mentioned this before because I keep forgetting, but Will's theme
is Orchard of Mines by Globus. Seriously go listen to the song. It
is amazing.
Day 14 Suva, Fiji
David is woken by the sound of his phone chiming. He looks at the
time and swears softly; it's a little past six in the morning. He
has a text from Will:
U doing anything 2 day?
David sighs and texts back:
I'm not sure yet. Why?
Just wanted 2 know if u want 2 explore the market w/ me 2
day.
I'll have to check with my parents to see if they have anything
planned but if not, I'd love to.
Ur going 2 tell them about me?
No, of course not. I'll tell them I want to explore the market
on my own or something.
Sounds good. Text me when u know 4 sure.
I will.
David puts his phone back on the nightstand and tries to go back to
sleep, but he can't. Groaning and cursing Will for waking him up so
goddamn early, David gets out of bed and crosses the room to the
sliding door that leads to his private verandah. He slides the
glass door open and steps out. The ship has just arrived at their
next port. The water is too shallow for them to pull up to shore,
so they'll have to be tendered in by small boat. David watches the
crew members anchor the ship in the bay until he's torn away by a
knock on the door connecting his stateroom to his parents'.
Reluctantly, he goes to answer it.
“Good morning father,” he says politely.
“Good morning David,” his father says. “I'm
afraid I have some bad news.” David's heart races when he
hears this. “The Whites won't be able to join us today. All
three of them managed to come down with a rather nasty case of food
poisoning.”
“Oh what a shame,” David says.
Thank you God. He wasn't sure he would be able to take another day
of being forced to be social with these people. He has nothing
against them, really, he just finds them boring.
“Your mother and I are going on a tour of the city like we
planned,” his father says. “We'll leave it up to you if
you want to join us or not.”
“Actually, I thought I might explore the Suva
marketplace,” David says. “You know, experience the
culture of Fiji for myself. I do have a school project to think
about, after all.”
“Ah yes, that's right,” David's father says.
“That sounds like an excellent idea. We will see you for
dinner at 5 PM.”
“Yes father,” David says.
He waits until he has his door closed and is certain that he is
alone before letting out a loud sigh of relief. He goes back into
his bedroom and texts Will:
Good news. Parents' plans got cancelled. Fiancée and her
parents have food poisoning so I'm free.
A few minutes later, he gets a text back from Will:
Awesome! Meet me on the Observation Deck at 7:30.
Okay. Sounds good. See you then.
David returns his phone to the nightstand and hops in the shower.
He dresses in a pair of nice khaki shorts and a polo shirt and
makes sure he has his cell phone and wallet. He has a brief, boring
breakfast with his parents and then heads up to the Observation
Deck to meet Will. The deck is empty except for a woman with long
black hair wearing a multicolored skirt and a white blouse standing
by the rail. David ignores her until she turns around and David
sees that it's Will.
“Oh my god,” he murmurs.
Will grins at him. “Hey gorgeous.”
“Will…you…you're…” David
splutters.
“Yeah,” Will says. “I'm wearing a skirt and
blouse. I make a pretty convincing woman, don't I?”
“But why?” David asks.
“I got the idea from something my father told me
yesterday,” Will says. David gives him a funny look. Will
smiles grimly. “He told me I look like a woman. I realized
last night that I could use that to my advantage. We don't want
people to know that we're together, right?”
“Right,” David says slowly.
“Well, people are going to see us together eventually and put
two and two together,” Will says. “It's pretty much a
given that someone is going to see us. So I thought that it would
be better that if people are going to see us together, they should
think I'm a woman. It'll be less of a scandal. Don't get me wrong,
I know it's still going to be a scandal, but at least it'll be less
of a scandal than if they know I'm a man. Right?”
“Yeah.” David nods. “But will they believe
it?”
Will's smile is all teeth. “I once was in a relationship with
a man for six months and he never knew I was a man.”
David stares at him. “How did you…?” he shakes
his head. “Never mind. I don't want to know.”
“Shall we go?” Will asks.
“Yes.” David nods.
They catch a boat to the mainland. David is surprised at how modern
the city of Suva is. He had never even heard of Suva before though
he had certainly heart of Fiji. They walk down the street and come
to a large open air market. Even at such an early hour, the
marketplace is crowded, though not uncomfortably so. David has a
very fun time wandering the market with Will, looking at everything
for sale. There's everything from food to handmade wares.
Because of the way Will is dressed, they don't attract a lot of
stares. People just assume that they're a young tourist couple out
for a stroll. David can't help glancing at Will. He actually makes
a very convincing woman. His facial features are already very
feminine, but with his hair loose like this, he looks even more
feminine. He is dressed in a loose billowing skirt to hide the fact
that he had something between his legs and a white button up
blouse. He has even managed to make it look like he has a bosom.
David isn't really sure he wants to know how he did it. He wears no
makeup, but he really doesn't need to.
“David! David!” David's heart sinks as he sees one of
his parents' friends coming towards them through the crowd.
“Hello Mrs. Blakely,” he says, forcing himself to smile
politely at her.
He hates all his parents' friends. They're all shallow,
narcissistic, and petty and Mrs. Blakely is no different. She's
around the same age as David's parents, thin and blonde with lots
of makeup and designer clothes. David has to be nice to them,
though, or risk a scandal, something his parents would never
forgive him for.
Mrs. Blakely's eyes fall on Will and David can see her eyebrows
raise as if to say, “You're walking around with a girl who is
not your fiancée? How scandalous!” David decides to nip
this one in the bud before Mrs. Blakely gossips about this to the
entire ship.
“Mrs. Blakely, may I present to you Miss Wren
Goldberg?” he says. “She and I have become acquainted
on this voyage. She too is engaged to some foreigner whose name I'm
afraid escapes me at the moment.”
“Adnan Issa,” Will supplies softly without looking up.
“He is from Dubai.”
“Yes,” David says. “Unfortunately, Tessa and her
parents came down with a case of food poisoning. I was planning on
exploring the marketplace by myself, but then I found out that Miss
Wren's fiancé had to cancel their plans due to illness so I
volunteered to escort her.”
Mrs. Blakely smiles brightly at him. “Oh, what a wonderful
thing for you to do! How very thoughtful of you.” David
smiles politely at her. “Well, I won't keep you any longer.
You two have fun.”
“Thank you,” David says politely.
He gently takes Will by the arm and leads him away, into the crowd.
They duck down a dark, narrow alley and come to a dead end. The
alley is long enough that no one will know they're there unless
they walk all the way down the alley and even then, it's dark
enough that they could be missed. David leans against the wall and
breathes a sigh of relief.
“That was way too close,” he murmurs, pushing his bangs
out of his eyes.
“Yeah,” Will agrees. “That was some quick
thinking on your part. And some good acting on my part.
Right?”
David can't help smiling at Will's arrogance. It's just a part of
who he is, he's learned. He sucks in his breath as Will steps close
to him, his mouth hovering only inches from David's.
“W…we can't. Not here,” David stammers.
“Why not?” Will asks. “There's no one around to
see.”
His lips find David's. David groans and turns his head away.
“Aw don't be like that,” Will says, placing several
light kisses on David's neck. “Don't resist.”
David shudders as he feels Will's tongue on his earlobe. He turns
to Will. Will grins wickedly at him. David slams their lips
together. He unbuttons Will's blouse and slips it off his
shoulders. He stares at Will's bra which is seemingly filled out.
Will laughs softly and takes David's hand. He places it on his
chest. It's soft. David stares even more.
“It's an orange,” Will says and he reaches down into
his bra to show him.
David laughs though he's not really sure why he finds it so funny.
He relieves Will of his other orange and his bra. He runs his thumb
over one of the pert nipples, then the other, causing Will to
gasp.
“Hurry David,” he whispers.
David fumbles with his pants and boxers but finally gets them down.
He lifts Will's skirt and slides down his underwear. He takes Will
there, hard against the wall. He's not sure how they manage it, but
Will is up against the wall, kept up by David, his legs wrapped
around David's waist. His eyes never leave Will's until he's come
and pulling out. Then he can't bear to look at him anymore.
“What's wrong?” Will asks.
“I…oh God.” David turns around and puts his
forehead against the brick wall.
He can't tell will that this isn't' him, that he's not the type of
guy to randomly have sex in a dark alley with an almost complete
stranger. He's known Will for two weeks now and yet he still knows
almost nothing about him. Every time he tries to spend time with
Will and tries to get to know him a bit better, they just end up
having sex.
He smiles at Will. “I just have never had sex in an alley
before. I didn't think I was that type of person, you
know?”
Damn it, why can't he lie to Will? Why does he feel like he has to
tell Will the truth?
Will smiles at him and puts his hand on David's shoulder. “I
know how that is. Now come on. We should probably at least attempt
to make ourselves look halfway decent.”
“Right,” David mumbles.
He gropes around the alley for his pants and boxers. When he
straightens up a few minutes later with them back in place, Will
has put his bra back on and is stuffing it with his oranges. David
watches him adjust them to make it look more realistic, then bend
down to pick up his blouse. He puts it on and buttons it up,
smoothing out the wrinkles before turning back to David.
“Let's go,” he says.
They sneak out of the alley and join the crowd. Somehow, no one
notices them. They continue their tour of the market, which is much
larger than David expected.
“So why are you marrying your fiancée?” Will asks.
“Don't tell me it's because you love her. We both know that's
bull.”
David stares at Will, surprised at his sudden question. It takes
him a few minutes for him to say, “Why do you want to
know?”
“I'm curious, that's all,” Will says. “I guess I
don't understand how someone can force themselves to do something
they really don't want to do.”
David thinks about Will's question for a long time as they finish
their tour of the market and lap back around to head to the
ship.
“I don't know,” David finally says quietly. “I
really don't know.”
“About what?” Will asks.
“Anything!” David shouts. He angrily runs his hand
through his hair, making it stand on end. “I don't know about
anything anymore!” He signs and turns to Will. “Look,
I've gotta go. I'll talk to you later, okay?”
“Yeah, sure,” Will says.
David storms off towards the ship, trying hard to not think about
how hurt Will looked.
