AN: Okay, so this is my first story on here, and it can be a little rocky. I hope you guys enjoy it though. =] here's the first chapter
“Catalina, quit fooling around, let’s go.” My feasting time was finally over. Kain always ruined my fun.
“Oh Kain, just take a taste, you know you want to.” I smirked up at him sweetly.
I watched as he rolled his eyes, and turn towards the path we had to follow. “Come on, the council is waiting.”
“Since when did you start caring about the council?” I sneered. Kain has never cared about the council before, so I was curious.
“They have an assignment for us.” The boredom was clear in his voice. I also detected a bit of annoyance.
“Oh, that would explain…” I trailed off and looked toward the ground. I wondered what the assignment was this time. Hopefully something good.
We both soon arrived in front of the council. The room that we entered was eerily dark, different than usual. The candles dimly lit the room, giving it a dark glow.
“Okay, if they called us here, then why are they late?” My question was never answered by my partner.
The door creaked open, and four dark figures emerged from it. “Kain, Catalina, it’s good to see you.” A tall gray haired man acknowledged us.
“Elder…” Kain gave a small bow.
I stared up at the old man in front of me. He stared back down at me with waiting eyes. I slowly, reluctantly gave him a small bow.
“So, Elder, what is it that you need us to do?” Kain quickly got to the point.
“Actually Kain, I just need you, Catalina didn’t need to come.” I quickly rolled my eyes.
“Does that mean I can leave?” I heaved a frustrated sigh. When I saw the Elder nod, I slowly walked out of the room.
I leaned against the wall, and slid down into a sitting position. I heaved in a breath as a sharp burning sensation went through my arm. I bit my lower lip to make sure I didn’t make a sound.
I sat there for a bit longer until I saw Kain walk out with his head bowed.
“So what was the assignment?” I was quickly by his side. He never let his gaze meet mine. “Kain…?”
“Cat, I need to leave.”
“Well, let me go with you, I can help.”
“No Cat, I need to do this alone.”
“But Kain, you can’t do everything alone.”
“Catalina! You can’t come with!” My eyes finally met with his furious ones.
I had never seen so much anger in those blue eyes I grew to love.
I slowly backed away. “Okay, I get it.” I watched his face turn from furious to guilty. I left the hall before he could apologize, like he usually does after he yells at me.
I quickly wiped at the tears burning my eyes. People always said that I cared too much. I was starting to think they were correct.
Feelings for the hot-headed, white haired, blue-eyed beauty steadily grew day after day. It was something about him. The only problem was, he would never return the feelings.
Kain only thought of me as his partner, someone to even out the delicate balance of our personalities. I was the person that kept him in check whenever he went into one of his spells. I was the one person that held him together.
“Catalina…” His soft voice pierced through my ears, and stopped all of my thoughts. Tears appeared behind my eyelids once more. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to snap like that.” He trailed off. I could still feel his eyes boring into my back.
“Kain, just go…” I could hear the strain in my voice. It was pathetic of me to even get attached like I did. I wanted everything that every couple had, but that seemed impossible.
When I finally looked up from my little patch of grass, Kain was right in front of me. “Cat…” His voice was silky soft.
I finally let one lone tear trail down my cheek. He quickly wiped it away with his thumb.
Before I could pull away, warm, soft lips embraced my own in a soft, sweet kiss. It was something I’ve never experienced before.
When I felt him pull away, I kept my eyes closed, not wanting the memory to fade.
“I will return safely.” He whispered that promise quickly into my ear. I sighed softly, slowly opening my eyes.
I looked back into his blue ones for a split second before he swiftly turned and dashed away. I knew right then I was in for a long wait. My only problem: hoping I could survive without him.
Chapter 1
A sweet, bitter, savory taste passed my lips and filled my mouth. I unclenched my jaw from the smooth skin of the guy in my arms. The cold, limp body fell to the ground, as I wiped the thick liquid from my lips.“Catalina, quit fooling around, let’s go.” My feasting time was finally over. Kain always ruined my fun.
