When arranged love becomes true.
Chapter 20
Apparently angry.

Spring was coming with the flowers' reborn and the scenery's new face. The snow had almost all melt and the birds came back from the south of Amphora. The waterfall was as strong as ever and the forest started to recover its green colors. It was still dawn when the prince got out of bed to leave the guild, the only place where he had peace as a young boy.

The girl was still furious at Kohaku for leaving without her. Not a word had been exchanged between the fiancés since the fight into the library. Everything was ready; the girls were going south, right to Condero, the capital of Ides, and the men were traveling west right to Neira, ancient capital of Silva. The horses were saddled and the supplies were packed. Lyra was about to depart when the firm grip of a soft hand circled her wrist.

“-I know you are still furious at me but I do not want to leave you in such a mood.
-Then let me come with you and kill Matuni with my own hands!
-We already talked about this fact!
-Well not enough as it seems!”

Her eyes had never been so cold to him before this moment. He took a deep breath to try and calm down but his emotions took the best of him and his hand went across her soft cheek leaving a red mark. His pupils were almost all dilated and his fangs were growing sharper by the second when his brother stopped his hand for a second hit. Tears were flowing down her red cheeks from fear as Kohaku returned to himself. His terrible black gaze went up her face.

“-You are not coming! I…its too dangerous.
-I think you're more a danger than whatever is there!
-I know, and that's why you're not coming!”

Her eyes widened as he turned around, his back facing her. His fist was still trembling from the effort of keeping his anger under control.

“-I am sorry Lyra, for your cheek…Just…Don't follow us!”

He jumped on his horse and departed, never turning back to face her. Mokuba came to her and put his hand on her red cheek. He opened his mouth to speak, but couldn't find the right words to reassure the frightened princess.

“-I'll punch him for you… Just know that he is leaving you for your own good.”

Taking the young girl into his arms he whispered in her ear:

“-I'm afraid he is more dangerous than you think…”

The girls were traveling in silence since they had departed from the guild. Midoriko had tried a lot of times to start a conversation, but Lyra just kept looking in front of her, staying quiet. The air had become warmer into the lighted path between the trees in bud and the herb had started to pass through the thick snow on the ground. They could still hear the roar of the fall and the chipping of birds. It's after about an hour that Lyra finally said:

“-I'm terribly sorry Midoriko, I'm just…still panicked…
-It's okay Lyra, but I'm sure he didn't meant to hurt you!”

When Lyra turned to her and she saw the look of death she gave her, she automatically explained herself:

“-Listen, I read in a book of the library about a cursed family, their blood is mixed with a lion's and their human side is constantly fighting to keep the beast under control, but when they feel anger, sadness or other, their lion blood starts to boil and they loose control over their body! They can be extremely violent. This family lives in Ides, Lyra… Kohaku's blood is cursed…”

She kept silence at that. Not too sure about what she had just heard. As Midoriko called her name to bring her back from her thoughts, she remembered the look Kohaku had right after he had hit her. His pupils had covered his whole iris. His gaze was truly black. His fangs were pointier than ever and his claws sharper.

They passed over an old bridge made from dead and dry wood. Once Lyra and her friend were in the middle, a crack was heard and suddenly, the wood crackled and the bridge fell into the river, the current taking the girls and the horses to an unknown destination.

Still rubbing his cheek, bruised by the punch his brother just gave him, Kohaku kept his thought for himself, regretting the fact that he had hit the only woman who truly accepted him for who he was. His hair were tied in a high ponytail to free his face, but some, too short to stay within the knot, fell onto his forehead and down his eyes, hiding the guilt held within the depths of his baby-blue orbs.

Last time his chest felt tight like this was when he met his fiancé. But this once, it was different. He hadn't resisted when his brother's fist came in contact with his cheek bone, he still could taste some blood pouring out his closed lips. After all, he truly deserved it.

Still traveling along the river, he heard a fainted cry in the air. He turned around, seeing that his brother had heard it too. It started again, less distant now. He pushed his horse at a gallop to discover where the scream came from. From where he was, he could only see movement in the water. A moment later, he could see a brown and a red spot into the current of the river. Stopping his horse, he looked around for a way to save the girls. He quickly took a rope and just when Mokuba was arriving, he tied the rope around his waist and explained his plan to his brother.

“-I'll go on the branch passing over the river to try to take a hold of the girls, you keep the end of the rope and tie it to a solid tree, in case I'd loose my grip over the branch okay?!
-Hurry, they're coming this way!”

Running to the twisted tree, he jumped onto it and easily slid to the middle of the branch. Bending his knees over the wood, he let himself fall over the strong current, holding himself by his legs. When the girls saw him, they quickly made an effort to go near each other and to be where he could take a hold of them. Once they were near him enough, he took a hold of Lyra's hand and Midoriko's waist. Pulling the brunette to him, he laced his arm around her stomach and started to lift the women from the icy water. When they got a hold of the branch, they noticed the sound of cracking wood and before they had the time to look at the source of the sound, the wood was destroyed and they fell into the cold water. Kohaku had just the time to catch Lyra before the current could take her away and Midoriko caught the rope just in time. Midoriko pulled her way to the shore and Kohaku followed her, Lyra's arms wrapped around his neck. Mokuba helped the red girl to climb the shore and made sure she was completely safe before turning to Kohaku, Lyra trembling into his arms.

“-You three must change your clothes quickly before you catch cold…”

Kohaku stood and exited two shirts and pairs of pants for the shaking girls. Once they were in a clearing near them, but far enough for their privacy, Kohaku changed too, Mokuba preparing something hot to eat. The blond prince untied his hair and tried to dry them as much as he could while shaking his head upside down.

Every one sat around a warm fire, covers wrapped around their shoulders. The girls were hugging each other to stay warm. The night was falling slowly; the sun was almost down the horizon. The dry meat and vegetables were all eaten when Kohaku, excusing himself, stood and walked into the forest. Lyra stared at his back until he was too far for her to see him. Standing right after him, she entered the dark woods ignoring Midoriko's protests.

She walked in the night, trying to stay in the path, but the shadows were making it difficult to look around her. Stopping when she heard a noise behind her, she hoped it was Kohaku coming to tease her. A hand was placed over her shoulder and she turned around to look at the man behind her, but realized it was not Kohaku when a fist came in hard contact with her cheekbone.
