Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ Yami Ni Ochiru ❯ One ( Chapter 1 )
[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
It all started with a black butterfly, flittering around the sky and flaunting its dark beauty. It had escaped from a labrotory where the butterflies were being altered for reasons unknown to the public. No matter where it went, no one would help it. No amount of screaming, pleading, or crying could get through to those thick-headed humans. As it was about to give up, it saw a group of boys, laughing and shoving each other playfully. One of the boys, an average height boy with dark aburn hair and glassy green eyes, noticed the broken creature and nudged another boy, pointing at it. The butterfly was rejoicing. Someone had finally noticed! It could finally tell the world of the government's awful intentions!
Shockingly, two of the boys gave their red-headed friend a weird look and continued to mess around. Assuming the other human was as deaf as his friends, the butterfly prepared to take off. However, gentle hands surrounded it, hindering its takeoff. The two idiot humans were yelling at the boy in their human language, but the other just laughed. About a minute later, the dark butterfly was released into a strange place. There were many towering objects littered around the place and strange, limpy things on the ground. It was offered a green leaf, which it took happily. As it munched on its tasty treat, it heard the boy say something that even the black butterfly could understand.
"Don't worry about a thing."
----------------------------------------
"Kenta, it was just a stupid butterfly! Have you gone sissy on us and turned to the dark side?!" Senkai Akemi laughed at his own pun. Kenta Chokichi had just returned from putting the strangely black butterfly in his bedroom, feeding it some leaves to occupy its time.
"Don't get mad at Kenta-chan," Gingi Chokao softly chided. "There's nothing wrong with helping a cute little creature." Smiling to himself, he continued to scribble on a blank sheet of construction paper. Moments later, he held up his creation prouldly. In a messy scrawl, he had written Kenta, Senkai, and his name over three crudely drawn boys.
Ignoring their strange friend, Kenta and Senkai began another game of chess. The time seem to drag on for Kenta. He was always bored of the small little town they lived in. Nothing really big happened there, other than a scandal about the Henderson's daughter, Tiffany, almost commiting suicide. Hardly anyone who lived in the surrounding cities had heard of the town's name, and tourists passed the place on purpose for an ideal vacation spot.
"Hey," Kenta began. "Why don't we pull a prank on those brainwashed morons for my birthday?" Ideas and schemes were already flooding the red-haired boy's mind.
Senkai's head turned so fast the others thought it would snap off. "Don't be ridiculous, Kenta! We're still in trouble for the hot sauce we put in Mrs. Anderson's coffee! What makes you think I'll go along with another one of your idiotic schemes to get back at our peers?!"
'He has a point,' Kenta thought ruefully. Every plan he made had always backfired, one way or another. He still couldn't give up. He wanted to pull one more prank on his 13th birthday, then give it up altogether. He turned to his rigid friend and gave him a sad puppy face. Gingi fell out of his chair, laughing at his leader's pathetic attempt to change Senkai's mind.
Senkai nevously pulled at his white wool hat, hiding his eyes. However, he was unable to hide the red that was beginning to spread across his face. "I c-can't do it!" he retorted. "Nothing we do ever turns out right! Sooner or later, we'll get arrested or worse. I can't risk it!"
Pain stabbed at Kenta's head and chest. 'No faith in me anymore, eh?' He tried to smile brightly but only succeeded in making a twisted smirk. "I get it. You don't have to help me. Neither does Gingi. I'll take the fall for this one, so you can rest peacefully. Besides, that's what little miss perfect wants anyway; to be an honorable member of this backwards society." He quickly walked away. He would never let them see him cry. It would be too much.

"Is that him? He sure is a scrawny little one." Two men were watching a little boy with dark red hair rush away from a couple of friends from the corner of the street. One of the men, a tall blonde man of 34, was smoking a cigerette. The other man, a 31 year old with long black hair and pitch black sunglasses, drank something from a large flask. These two had been sent to watch a Kenta Chokichi for a few days to determine whether or not he was "the one". They had no clue what that even meant, but they weren't about to question their boss of 8 years.
The blonde turned to his partner and smiled. "Yep, that's him all right. He fits the description."
"I don't get it, Kevin," the raven muttered before drinking another shot from the flask. "Why does the boss care about a 12 year old brat? "
Kevin shrugged. "Beats me. Some think that he has our experiment locked up in his house. We'll find out here shortly." He took one last drag of cigerette before stomping on it. "You up to pool after this mission, Mark?"
Mark shook his head and stared at one of the kids with the white hat. "Focus on your work before you decide to play."
