Other Fan Fiction ❯ Alpha-Omega ❯ Alpha-Omega ( One-Shot )

[ A - All Readers ]

Once, in a land ruled by Kiara, goddess of fire, there existed a powerful treasure. The treasure, a small stone known as Alpha-Omega, contained the ability to give life and to destroy it. It was both the beginning and the end. Alpha-Omega was a powerful gift that the townspeople soon realized they were not wise enough to control. It was their decision that the treasure should be destroyed. But, soon enough, they discovered that the Alpha-Omega was too powerful to be damaged by a mere mortal's hands. The treasure laid waste to anyone with intentions of its destruction. Kiara soon grew tired of her followers constantly dying. She had heard the water god, Merusha, speak of a young girl in his kingdom.
“The girl is wise beyond her years. Only fifteen and she is already deeply skilled in the ways of magic and combat.”
Kiara smiled and looked down from the heavens upon the young girl.
“Perhaps she can quell the powers of Alpha-Omega. I shall find out at once.”

Once on Earth, Kiara disguised herself as a simple townswoman and set forth to locate the gifted child.
“I know I saw her here in Hebenia, but where at? She can't be far.”
Suddenly, Kiara heard a small, high-pitched scream followed by the sound of laughter. Kiara turned down an alley and saw a girl, no more than seven years of age, being tortured by a group of boys. They appeared to be waving a dead snake over her head.
“Aww, did we scare you?”
“It's just a dead snake! What a dumb kid.”
“Look at her. I think she's going to cry.”
Kiara walked over to them and grabbed the snake from one of the boy's hands.
“I do not think it would be wise for you to linger here.” The boys looked at Kiara, her titian eyes glaring at them. Quickly, they scurried off and Kiara stooped down by the girl's side.
“There, there. It is okay now.” The girl sniffed and looked up at her.
“Thank you for saving me. My name is Trina. I got lost and then those boys stared scaring me.”
“Who did you lose?”
“My sister, Nysha. We were shopping in the bazaar and I guess I wandered off. Nysha is really smart, smarter than anybody in Hebenia.”
“Nysha? Could that be the girl Merusha spoke of?”
“Where do you and your sister live, Trina?” Trina smiled and grasped Kiara's hand.
“Come on, I'll show you.”

Soon, Trina and Kiara arrived in front of a small hut on the edge of the town. Trina pushed the door open and called, “Are you home, Nysha?” Someone in a chair turned around to face them.
“Trina? Oh, thank the gods. I was so worried. Who is this woman with you?” Kiara stared at the girl. She had soft blonde hair and deep azure eyes. She was only fifteen, but she looked as though she were much older.
“My name is Shisha and I found your sister in the bazaar. Tell me, are you the child I've heard so much about? The one who is smarter than any adult?” Nysha nodded slightly.
“Yes. Why do you wish to know?” Kiara looked briefly to Trina, then back at Nysha.
“If I may, I'd prefer to tell outside, without your young sibling.” Nysha glanced at her sister and then nodded. After stepping outside, Kiara dropped her guise. Her hair became a deep scarlet with a tinge of sable. She now wore a long crimson gown and held a golden torch, orange flame burning brightly. The girl stared at her, azure eyes meeting titian.
“You're... you're a goddess?!” Kiara smiled and nodded.
“Yes. I am Kiara, goddess of fire and I need your help, Nysha.

Nysha was in shock.
“M...me? What could you possibly need from me? I'm just a girl.” Kiara laughed and shook her head.
“No, Nysha, you are much more than that. I assume you have heard of the land of Terimba, have you not?” Nysha nodded.
“Well, in Terimba, there lays a powerful treasure known as Alpha-Omega. It is able to give life and destroy it. It contains great power, perhaps too great. Many have tried to destroy it, but all share the same fate. I believe you, Nysha, will be the one to destroy the Alpha-Omega.” Nysha's eyes were wide in terror.
“The Alpha-Omega? I'd heard of its power, but I didn't know it caused so many problems. Why is it so bad?” Kiara sighed.
“It is not the treasure that's bad but the people who use it. Have you heard of the Wave of Chaos that occurred nearly two decades ago?” Again, Nysha nodded.
“Yes, but I was always told it was a myth, that it never happened.” Kiara laughed. “A myth, you say? Hardly. The Wave of Chaos was a result of someone trying to tamper with the stone's power. The entire village was destroyed.”
Noticing the shock on Nysha's face, she added, “But you, Nysha, are different from the others. You have more power than anyone else I've ever met, I can see it in you aura. So, Nysha, will you do me the honor of saving my kingdom and destroy the Alpha-Omega?” Nysha stared at the beautiful goddess before her, still in a state of awe.
“I...I'll try my best, Lady Kiara.”

Swiftly, Kiara had transported herself and Nysha to Terimba.
“Where is the Alpha-Omega kept, Lady Kiara?” Nysha asked, observing her surroundings. Kiara, back in her simple disguise, smiled.
“The stone is kept in a sacred place. It is in the Temple of Kiara at the base of Mount Dyaverta.” Noticing the puzzlement on Nysha's face, she added.
“I take it you didn't realize what I meant when I said `my kingdom' earlier. Terimba, and a few other rural towns, are under my jurisdiction. Every main village has its own ruling god or goddess, just as Hebenia's is Merusha.”
Nysha cocked her head slightly, and then grinned.
“Is Merusha your rival, Kiara, considering he is the god of water?” A look of amusement appeared on the fire goddess's face.
“I suppose you could think of it that way. Merusha and I have a deep past, but now is neither the time nor the place to discuss it. Now is the time for action.”

Kiara and Nysha swiftly made their way to Mount Dyaverta and stood just outside of the temple.
“If you still have doubts, Nysha, now is the time to turn back.” Nysha shook her head. “No. If you believe in me this strongly, then I'll do what I can to help you and your village.” Kiara smiled.
“If you are certain, Nysha, then let us proceed.”
Slowly, Kiara walked past the pillars at the entrance and into the temple, immediately followed by Nysha. What she saw inside made Nysha shiver. In front of her were piles of gold, jewelry and other treasures.
“The villagers are quite interesting, aren't they? They pay the gods to help them when, in reality, they could use the money to help themselves.” Then, Kiara pointed to a large pedestal at the back of the temple.
“There lies the stone, Nysha. Now is when your work begins.”
Nysha walked towards the back and saw a small stone atop the pedestal. She saw the amber stone, just sitting there upon its perch. One thought ran through Nysha's mind.
“How can something so small be such a threat?”
Nysha stepped next to the pedestal and asked, “What should I do, Lady Kiara?”
“Take the stone in your hands, Nysha and put all your power into it. Let the power flow through you and into the stone. Your power will battle the stone's and, should your powers win, the stone shall be no more.”
Nysha didn't like the fact that she had said `should' as opposed to `when'. Nysha gulped and grasped the stone in her right hand.
“I have no choice, I can't back out now. I must try.”
* * *
Kiara watched as Nysha held the stone tightly, channeling her power. Nysha closed her eyes tightly and pushed her power into it. Suddenly, a burning sensation filled her. The stone was fighting back, attempting to overpower her.
“K...Kiara! It hurts, Kiara!”
“You must hold on, Nysha! I know you can do this!”
The burning became stronger and the stone began to glow brightly within her hand. Nysha, too, was glowing now, a deep azure. Her power began fighting off the amber one of the stone. The powers battled one another fiercely. Nysha was breathing heavily, barely able to hold on much longer.
“Kiara!” Nysha loosened her grip on the stone, allowing the amber light to grow stronger.
“Nysha, do not let its power consume you, you'll be destroyed!”
“I can't hold out much longer!”
“Yes you can! You are stronger than any other mortal I've ever known. Think of what you'll be losing if you give up. Think of your family, of your sister!”
Nysha's head filled with images of Trina, the sister she would be leaving behind if she gave up now. Nysha became filled with a strong anger.
“I can't give up, I won't. I have to destroy the Alpha-Omega. I have to do it, for Trina!” Nysha gathered her power deep from inside of her, tightening her grip on the stone. She screamed loudly and thrust her entire power into her stone. The azure light enveloped the stone, forcing her palm open. The stone burned brightly and shattered before her eyes. Nysha smiled, her eyelids growing heavy, weakened from the power she had lost. Slowly, she watched Kiara come close to her as she slipped out of consciousness.

Nysha awoke in a small bed unlike her own. She turned and saw Kiara sitting beside her quietly.
“Oh, you're awake now. That's good.”
Nysha looked up at the ceiling above her, mentally counting the pieces of straw entwined in the thatched roof.
“What happened, Kiara?”
“You fell unconscious right after you destroyed the Alpha-Omega. The gods were very pleased with your accomplishments. I must ask you something very serious now, Nysha.” Nysha was confused, but nodded anyway.
“As I said, the gods were pleased. Actually, they were more so in awe. They could hardly believe a young girl like you could destroy something so powerful. They have asked me to offer you a place in the heavens.”
“Do you mean I'm going to die?” She was both shocked and afraid.
“No, Nysha, you misunderstand. They are offering you a place among them, among us.” Nysha's face changed to an expression of utter amazement.
“They... they want me to be a goddess?”
“Not quite, but as close as a mortal could ever get. So, what is your decision?” Nysha thought for a moment, and then smiled at Kiara.
“I'm sorry, Kiara, but I have to say no. I have Trina to care for, I can't abandon her.”
“I could ask for the gods to make an exception, allow Trina to come with you. It was her, after all, that motivated you to destroy the stone.” Nysha shook her head lightly.
“My answer is the same, Kiara. I have other family to think of, as well as my friends in Hebenia. I hope you understand.” Kiara smiled and nodded.
“I see. Its fine, I understand. I'm sure the gods will as well. It is, after all, your decision. That being said, I must leave you now. You have proven to me, that anyone can have great power, no matter their size. Goodbye, Nysha, perhaps we shall meet again someday.” Nysha watched as the goddess vanished from her sight. She smiled slightly and closed her eyes, drifting off into a well-earned sleep.
