Looking Toward The Future - chapter 3

DISC: I do not own Land of the Blindfolded. I do not own Masahiro Namiki, Outsuka Kanade, or Naitou Arou - or even the little puppy. They all belong to Tsukuba Sakura. I am borrowing them for this fanfic. However, should Tsukuba-san have any complaints, I will be willing to remove this fic from the site upon request.

He leaned over and nibbled on her ear. Then whispered, "You never have to worry about me wanting you, Kanade." He flicked his tongue out to tease her earlobe, then pulled back so he could look her directly in the eyes. "I've never wanted anything until I met you. And now, you're like air to me. But how do you feel? I… How do you feel about me?"

She gazed up at him with longing. "I…" She blushed and looked away. Then turned back to him determinedly. `He was honest with me. I can't hide from him.'

"I want you, Arou. I love you and I want to be with you. I can't seem to stop thinking about you, and every time I'm near you, I want to feel you touching me and holding me. I want to feel you inside me again." She blushed furiously, but held his gaze. "I want you every moment of every day."

He leaned in to recapture her lips and murmured gratefully, "Oh. Is that all?"

Their kiss was passionate, but at the end, she playfully slapped at his shoulder and said, "Isn't that enough?"

"Kanade," he said, looking at her with complete seriousness, "You see the future and I see the past, and even if we took all of time, I don't think I could ever get enough of you."

Her heart fluttered in her chest as she looked at him. `God, I love this man. I love him so much it feels like my ribcage is too small to hold my heart any more.'

The two sat there for a moment longer, staring into each other's eyes - each of them thinking the same thing `Are we far enough off the beaten path, or should we go back to eating for now and maybe AFTER, we can go back to his place, and…'

"BARK BARK BARK"

"OH! Uh. Hi! Hi, Kanade. Hi, Arou."

That broke their gaze. They looked up to see Namiki walking Koinu. Or more like Koinu was pulling fiercely on the leash and dragging Namiki behind him.

"Oh. Namiki," they both said as they broke apart. Tone really does tell the difference. Kanade's was surprised - a bit guilty sounding. Arou's was irritated… annoyed.

"Huh. A picnic. You guys on a date?" He smiled at them charmingly. Koinu jumped up and down, trying to get Kanade's attention.

Kanade and Arou looked at each other and then back at Namiki. "Yes. We are." They said together.

Namiki visibly sagged, but he kept a cheerful face and tone. "Oh. Well then. Don't let me interrupt. I was… just taking Koinu for a walk."

Kanade's guilt got the better of her, and she looked at Arou pleadingly. Who sighed and then turned to Namiki. "Well. I always do make too much food. You could stay and eat with us, I suppose."
`Not that I really want him to intrude on our date, but I do kinda feel sorry for the guy. He's had it worse than Kanade and me put together. Besides, I know Kanade would feel worse if we didn't invite him. That's why I love her. She always sees the good. In everyone.'

Uncharacteristically, Namiki looked at both of them carefully to judge their intent. When he realized that they were serious, that they would accept his company, and that Arou wasn't just inviting him to win points with Kanade, he looked surprised and then beamed.

Kanade put together another plate of food and Arou poured him a glass of wine. And Namiki pulled a rawhide out of his pocket that he'd just bought while on their walk as a treat for the dog and tossed it to him to keep him pacified while they ate.

XXX END SCENE XXX

"Oh my GOD!" Namiki said after taking a bite of the potato salad. "Arou, you have to marry me! Be my little wife and cook for me every day!"

Kanade giggled and Arou threw a biscuit at the precog boy's head. Namiki reached up and snatched it out of the air before it could bounce off his bean. He took a bite of the biscuit and closed his eyes and moaned. "I'm in heaven."

He opened his eyes and looked at his love rival. "I'm serious, Arou. Marry me. Then we can both have Kanade-chan as our mistress and we'll all be happy." He reached set his roll on his plate and reached out to grab a hand from each of them. "Picture it now: A little two-bedroom home where the three of us live. Arou does the cooking and Kanade and I split the cleaning. Arou works as a police detective - solving all the unsolvable crimes with his gift, while Kanade and I use our talents to clean up in the stock market - and run through the city helping everyone we can. So we benefit from our gifts and help others, too! And we can have a rotating schedule - Kanade with Arou and me alone, then Kanade with me and Arou alone, followed by Arou and me together," he squeezed the boy's hand and batted his eyelashes at him lovingly, "with Kanade alone. And every now and then…" His eyes closed to slits as he grinned and nodded at them. "Threesome."

He quickly dropped both their hands and snatched the food items they'd thrown at him out of the air as if he had known all along that would be the result. And with his abilities - he probably did. He laughed heartily, and after a minute they both joined in.

No one noticed how Kanade blanched when he said threesome - or if they did, they attributed it to her kind and pure nature. No one could possibly have guessed about the dream she'd been having. Or that her thoughts were `Do I want him that way? I don't do I? I'd have to be a slut to want them both. And… I don't. I don't want to marry Namiki.' She thought about it fully and realized that this was indeed the truth. `I don't want to marry Namiki. Arou, though…' she blushed and cut the thought off. `I just want Namiki to be as happy as we are. I… maybe if I try, I can see his future and see if he's going to be okay. I'd hate for him to suffer because of me.'

As they finished up the main dinner, and put the rest away, Arou used a couple of the now empty containers to make a take home of leftovers for Namiki. He'd gotten a flash of Namiki at his house eating instant ramen and then throwing the empty container into a trash bin that appeared to be filled to the top with empty ramen containers.

Namiki was thinking, `I know I joke about it, but… I really do like Arou. He's my rival for Kanade, but… he's really a good guy. I mean, if I were in his place and he'd come by on MY date with Kanade, there's no way I would have invited him to join in. I'm too selfish for that. Maybe that's why Kanade chose him. Hmmm… Maybe if… If I could only become less selfish… Maybe… Maybe after that happens is when Kanade will come to me. Like I saw…'

And Kanade was dishing out pie. (AN: no pun.) She concentrated as she held out the piece to Namiki, and made sure that his hand touched hers as he took it from her. And she concentrated.

This time, both the boys saw her go into a vision. When she came out of the trance, she looked at Namiki and grinned. Both boys looked at her in anticipation, and she just smiled and said, "I know something you don't know!"

"Oh really?" Arou replied, smirking with an eyebrow raised, and touched her shoulder.

"OH!" he said. Then he broke out into a huge grin. And laughed. And looked at Namiki and said, "I know something you don't know!"

What else could he do? Namiki pouted and folded his arms defiantly across his chest. "That's not fair!" he muttered. And the couple burst out in fresh laughter. Until Kanade started to feel guilty for the poor boy's discomfort.

She leaned in and kissed his cheek and whispered, "It's gonna be great." And Arou nodded.

After that, they ate their dessert in companionable silence. But when it was done, Namiki knew he had to leave the couple alone. He thanked them both and was surprised when Arou handed him several containers of food.

"Dude, you need to eat more than just instant ramen. I'm not going to marry ya, but hey… I'll feed ya occasionally so you don't wither and die. What are friends for?"

`Friends?' Namiki rose quickly and left even more quickly than that, with Koinu in tow. `We're friends?' He thought about all the times the three had spent together. `Friends.' He walked the rest of the way home smiling. As he got ready for bed, he wondered why his cheeks felt sore.

Back at the park, Arou and Kanade cleaned everything up and walked hand-in-hand back to his apartment.

Relief at knowing that their friend would be fine - was about to find a love of his own that looked like she was made for him - had freed her from her guilt, and released some of her inner restraint.

"Arou?"

Turning toward the sweet girl who had made him happier than he had ever dreamed possible, he replied, "Yes?"

"Um…" He watched her blush as she finished her query. "Do you think when we get to your place we could… pick up where we left off when Namiki showed up?"

He swallowed and smiled, and pulled her along, jogging the rest of the way to his apartment.
