Other Fan Fiction ❯ Rough Cuts ❯ Zone 1 ( Chapter 1 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
chills run down my spine, spidering through my shoulder blades, as the heat slices through the frost. the feel of liquid heat intensified the burning, dripping down my back from under muscle tissue now tearing itself open. my mind exploded in fear at the screams escaping my throat. who knew i had demonic vocals in the end? i screamed and growled and twisted and moaned until i was purring. finally free from the confines of my flesh, my wings spread wide and proud around me, a bloody beacon in this desolate ember smoked night.
screams echo farther than the bounds of invisible walls, altering heat swirling thick in the ashen skies. this desert my hunting ground, i search. a trace, faint, to my left. it's warm, not like this smothering burn, but gentler, less heat but more sensation, curling softly through me, cooling my rage. like glass in the smoke , i slice through thundering clouds, intent on victory; with filled arms i'll leave this wretched place.
above me in the highest tower of bodies she lay covered in blood and ash, smoking corpses surrounding her. i dive down, arms outstretched and lift her limp form. my wings beat faster, my heart racing, my hand fumbling. slicing easily through her silk dress, i delicately cut open her chest and slip my hand through. behind her ribs, a little bit north, my fingers wrap around her still heart. with gentle pressure i pulse it, sending blood through her veins while soaring higher and higher above the thick black smoke and clouds. i pump again, looking into her face, and leaning my lips to her's. i breathe into her, willing my life force to restart her own, refusing to give up. i'll have her in my arms for eternity if she'd just open those pale grey hazel eyes to me. another breathe another pump and suddenly it pumps of its own accord. startled i gently hold her softly beating heart, helping it, coaxing it and her lungs expand as she takes a new breath unassisted. her eyes flutter open and her hand covers her chest. through skin i feel her pressure, the warmth from her flesh returning. her voice is weak but stable as she looks into my eyes and says,
"i told you my heart will only beat within your hands. I may be your angel, but you have always been my wings"
