Keith shook his head. "I don't...I don't know. Without his healing powers...I just don't know," he admitted.
"He'll be fine," Elyssa said once more. "You're all worrying over nothing."
Mia pulled out her gun and pointed it at Elyssa. "SHUT UP! YOU DON'T GET TO TALK!" She looked back at Sophitia. "Can you get him to the car?"
She nodded and lifted him Mia kept her eyes on Elyssa as they walked to the door. "This is the second time you trusted her, Keith and a second time you cost Neron's life. If he dies...I will never forgive you."
Elyssa smiled as they left. "Don't worry, Mia. Pretty soon you won't have to worry about him at all. He'll be all mine."
Just for that, Mia shot her in the leg listening to her scream. "Good luck having him take that wound from you, bitch!" she spat. They walked to the car and got in. Sophitia quickly stepped on the gas.
Keith smirked, but quickly lost his smile as he saw the way Mia hovered over Neron as they drove. "We might...we might need to take him to a hospital," he told her. "I don't know how much damage that caused to his brain."
"We can't take him to the hospital. He doesn't have a birth certificate or a social security card. They will turn him into the police," Sophitia said.
Mia was so mad with Keith. She blamed him. Every time he called Elyssa, he made things worse. He always told Mia she was too trusting and yet, she seemed to think it was him who was too trusting. She cried over Neron. Now, all she could think about was the words he said right before they left. Already...she missed him.
"I could pull some strings and get him seen without question." He sighed as they pulled up to the house. They got him in bed, and put some ice packs on his face.
"If you want to help, stop making deals with her!" Mia snapped. Sophitia placed a few more ice packs on Neron's head. Mia pushed her and Keith out and slammed the door. She sat over Neron, holding his hand and praying to herself.
Neron didn't move or make a sound save for a few whimpers throughout the night as dark dreams pulled at his mind. Savage images of fire, blood, and flesh. Images of two naked body rolling over silk sheets. Images of a burning castle, or a bloodied white horse. Images which were suddenly burned into his mind.
Mia didn't sleep. She sat over him all night and wiped his forehead as he sweated. She cried and prayed and yet, she could barely feel him even though he was right in front of her. His bond with her felt weak, like it was slipping, fading.
Keith knocked on her door before opening it. "How is he doing?"
Mia looked over her shoulder at him, trying hard to be strong. "He...won't..." suddenly she started balling, "wake up!"
Keith sighed. Walking over to her, he rubbed her shoulders as he looked down at him. "He looks like hell," he whispered softly. "I'm certain he'll pull through. Just give him time."
Mia turned to him and hugged him quickly, holding him tightly as if she was falling and didn't want to let go. She shook with her tears. Her anger over him had died hours ago when the sun fell in the sky. Now, all she could think about was that she was losing Neron and she was alone.
Keith stroked her back and held her close to him. "It's going to be okay. He's strong. He's suffered worse than this."
That didn't make her feel better. It didn't give her any comfort. Back then, he healed. At the moment, he was relying on the weakness of a slow healing factor. If she could, she would take it all from him just so he wouldn't suffer. She wished she had the ability to take wounds like him.
He stroked her hair and kissed her forehead. "You need to sleep. You won't do him any good if you can't stay awake."
"I can't sleep," she said against him. "I tried..."
"Come on, you're going to bed." He lifted her into his arms and started out the door.
She didn't object. Being held at the moment felt good. She clung to him and cried into his shirt.
He took her to his bedroom and set her under the covers. Pulling them over her, he stroked her face. "I want you to sleep," he ordered.
She grabbed his arm quickly and looked up at him. "Stay with me...I don't want to be alone."
He nodded. "Okay," he told her. Sliding off his shirt and shoes, he crawled into the bed beside her, Wrapping his arms around her he nuzzled her neck. "Go to sleep."
She moved close to his chest and closed her eyes. Taking in his scent, she found comfort being in his arms despite her earlier hate for him. Cuddling in his warmth, she felt herself slipping from reality and soon drifted off.
Keith smiled as her small frame huddled against him. He stroked her body, gently kissing her body while she slept.
Mia woke hours later. It was noon when she finally stirred in Keith's arms. She looked over at him and ran her hand threw his hair to wake him.
He groggily moved and kissed her, his lips massaging hers as his tongue dipped into her throat. "Five more minutes," he whispered as he pulled her closer and nuzzled her.
Mia blushed. Maybe he thought she was another one of his overnight girls. "Keith...it's Mia...remember?"
Keith cracked open his eyes slowly. "Mia?" He yawned and nuzzled her again. "Why are you in my bed?" He stopped when he remembered why. "Oh yeah.... How was your nap?"
"You kissed me, Keith," she said and looked at the clock. "It's noon."
Keith smiled. "You taste sweet," he whispered.
Mia blushed. She didn't have the energy to fight with him. "Thank you..." she said slowly. Sitting up, she moved to the edge of the bed and then stood. "I'm going to check on Neron," she said and left.
"You're welcome," he smirked as he laid back down.
Neron was laying there just as still as he had been hours ago. He squirmed, moaning as he struggled, fighting invisible nightmares.
Mia went to the bowl beside the bed and rung out the rage from the water. She dabbed his forehead and sat next to him like she did before. Taking his hand she kissed it and laid her head in his lap while she watched him sleep.
Something about her presence seemed to soothe him. His movements eased, as did his breathing. It was several hours later before Neron's eyes finally opened. He bolted up, grabbing his head, tears streamed his eyes at both the mental and physical pain washed over him. He fell back to the bed, his back arching as he screamed. Images filled his head. Painful memories which were suddenly seared into his mind.
Mia didn't know what to do. With tears streaming in her eyes she cradled him. "It's ok...shhhh. I'm here. It's ok," she said over and over.
His breathing was ragged as he held his head. "It hurts," he hissed, burying his face in her body. "The memories hurt...."
She held him close. "I know...I feel it..." she whispered.
"I remember," he whispered. "I remember everything."
She pulled back from him, her eyes swimming into his. "Everything...." That meant he remember Elyssa. Would his heart still belong to her or Elyssa?
He nodded, still cradling his head. "I remember every war. I remember every fight. Every scar. Every love...." He smiled, even as his eyes watered with pain. "I remember my daughter."
Mia forced herself to smile. "I'm...so happy for you."
He bit his lip as he held his head. "It feels like someone's running a hot iron through my brain." He looked up at her, his eyes softening through the pain. "I remember...Elyssa."
Mia stiffened. She backed away from him a bit giving him some space. Grabbing the glass of water next to the bed she handed it to him. "I'm...really....happy for you..." This time, she couldn't hide the pain in her voice.
He nodded slowly while downing the glass of water. "Could I...could I have some of that...pain killer that Keith talks about when he has a headache?"
She nodded grabbing the glass from him. She walked to the bathroom and grabbed the pills and filling the glass back up with water. The broken mirror showed her a broken image of herself and all she could think about was Elyssa taunting her and laughing. Walking out, she handed Neron two pills and the water. "It won't take long to kick in."
"I hope so," he whispered as he popped the pills and chased them down with a glass of water. "I'm already missing my ability to heal." He winced as he laid back down. "I...think...I need to talk to Elyssa."
"No...please...don't say that," Mia said. It wasn't an order, just a want.
He looked at her. Reaching out and caressing her face. "It's something I need to do. Now that I remember..." He shook his head slowly. "I owe her that."
"If you don't remember, she tried to kill me and Keith. How can you owe her anything? You owe it to me not to see or speak to her again," she said. She was being selfish. She knew that, but she didn't care.
He looked up at her, biting his lip. "Is that...an order?"
Mia looked away. "No," she said as she moved from his touch. "I would only order you if your life was in danger or I wanted someone dead," she said in a whisper.
"I know you do not wish to hear it, so I will avoid the details as to why its important. I do...I do owe her, Mia. I...loved her, for that I owe it to her." He used the past tense in hope that she would feel more comfortable.
"I'm not stupid, Neron. I...I know you lover her." She kept her face to the window as silent tears rolled down her cheeks. She was sick of crying. So sick of tears and heartache. Wiping them quickly she took a deep breath. "If you go to her..." she played with her skirt, getting up the courage to say the rest, "you will be leaving me. We both know she won't let you come back...and we both know that if I go with you...I can't guarantee that I won't kill her."
"I need to speak with her...but I do not wish to forsake you." He looked down at the symbol on his hand. "If I go see her with Sophitia...will that ease your fears?"
"No," she said honestly. "It won't stop her. Nothing will stop her. She was right...you don't belong to me..."
"You say I'm not your pet, and yet you speak of me as one. I belong to you. This marks proves that," he told her.
"You know what I mean by that!" she snapped. Standing she walked to the door. "I'm not stopping you from seeing her. Do as you wish," she said and walked out.
Neron winced, holding his head as she yelled. Her voice echoed in his head, and he watched as she left him. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and started to move and get dressed.
Mia walked to Keith's door and knocked lightly. "Hey, you still in bed?"
"Yeah, what's up? Come on in," he told her.
Mia's hand went to the knob and hesitated. "Are you dressed?"
"I've got boxers on. That's about it."
She opened the door and walked in. Walking over to his bed, she laid down next to him on top of the covers. "He's awake. He remembers everything. He...wants to see Elyssa..."
"Well that's good," Keith told her. "If he remembers everything he can tell her to screw off and she'll have no choice but to listen to him."
She sighed and moved into him. "I...don't think he intends to leave her. He...says he owes her."
He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her close to him, nuzzling her neck. "You could always order him to stay with you. I don't really think that he would mind it." Keith knew that right now would be his best chance to squirm in between her and Neron, but he learned that he was going to have to take his time and move in slowly. Savor it.
"I couldn't do that to him. I want him happy. And if he would be happier with her...I wish him the best. But I can't go with him, I would kill her. So...I'll stay here and wait," she said against him. "I'll give him my cell and he can call your phone when he knows what he wants."
He nodded as he let his lips run over her forehead. "No matter what you always have a place here with me."
She nodded against him. "I'm grateful to you, Keith. I owe you so much."
"Hey, it's no big," he told her, shrugging it off as he stared at her. "What are friends for? Though I do expect head out of it on occasion. Feel free to start now if you wish."
She laughed. "You always make me feel better." Reaching over, she kissed his forehead. "Don't move, I'll be back...but that doesn't mean undress," she said quickly.
She got out of bed and walked back to her room as Neron was coming out. She walked in and grabbed her cell then handed it to him. Opening it up she showed him how to work it. "Just press 1 then SEND and you will be calling Keith's phone. Call when you need me...or if you decide..." She bit her lip. "Just be safe, ok? And don't leave me in the dark," she said slowly. Mia ran her hands through his hair and kissed his cheek. "I'll wait...but I can't promise my heart will be in one piece should you return. And I won't wait forever. If you don't call tonight, I'll take it as a sign. Do you need someone to drive you to her?"
He shook his head slowly. "No...I do not want to bother anyone with this," he told her. Looking down at her, he smiled as he caressed her cheek. "Remember what I asked of you earlier? Should anything happen to me.... Please, be happy."
Mia hugged him tightly. "Don't...talk like that. I can't make you promise to come back to me, but promise you will let me know if you aren't. I don't want to be waiting forever...I'm not like Elyssa..."
"Yes, I know that now," he whispered. Pressing his lips to her forehead, he closed his eyes to take in her scent one last time. When he finally pulled away from her, he felt a strange sense of dread well up within him. Fixing the bandages which covered his arms and neck, he smiled at her before turning and exiting Keith's home.
Standing outside by himself only made the feeling worse, still he pressed forward. He had no idea what twists and turns Sophitia had taken in driving them there. He didn't even know if they would still be there. That didn't matter, however. With his memory restored, he knew he would find them wherever they were.
It took him an hour to move throughout the city and find the high rise apartment area. Walking past the front stairs, he made his way up the stairs to the 12th story. No sooner did he reach to knock on the door at the end of the hallway did it open to reveal her perfect figure.
"Please, come in Hades," she said, smiling at the use of his old name.
He nodded slowly, and she shut the door behind him.
Mia looked at Keith as she laid in his bed next to him again. "Do you think he'll come back?" she asked as she glanced over at his cell on the table next to the bed.
"He'll be fine," Elyssa said once more. "You're all worrying over nothing."
