"Hey Becca, can you toss me a soda?" I asked my best friend. She gladly reached inside our mini-fridge, which we paid for with our own money thank you very much, and threw one over next to me on the bed.
"Ok now, you have to practice just one more time," I told Zach. "If you can't grab onto things, how do you expect to be a good guardian?"
Of course Zach would always be more than a guardian to me. He was my angel. And sometimes, when I was angry, my perverted stalker ghost. You see, Zach is dead. He has been for who knows how long. According to him, we're "soul mates". Well then whoever was in charge of putting together soul mates obviously screwed up somewhere. Me and Zach are totally not soul mates. He's just here to protect me, like Rob is meant to protect Becca. And we have a good reason to be protected too. We're GODDESSES!!! Well, um, not really. But we are being hunted by The Society. That's reason enough to be protected. We're just lucky that our parents happened to be spies for this top secret organization. I can't go into full detail exactly, but the thing is that human help just isn't going to cut protecting us. So lucky us get ourselves a couple of ghosts up against blood-thirsty vamps, a few werewolves, and discusting demons.
I glanced up at Zach's face. He was so tired of practicing picking up things. The thing is, ghosts can only really touch the person they're supposed to be protecting, which is fine with Zach, whenever he feels like trying to feel me up or kiss me, which I have never allowed yet by the way, but ghosts always have to learn more. So it's my job to help "train" him. He's getting pretty good, but he isn't too good at picking things up too heavy, and after a while he can't at all once he gets tired. He never gets too tired of holding his sword though, of course to train and protect me.
From a glance, Zach and Rob would look like two ordinary teenage boys. But after you get a chance to really look at them like me and Becca do, you would be able to tell right away that they're indeed not. They have perfect skin that looks like silk, shining gray eyes, and a dull tone to their skin. Oh yeah, and if you happen to touch them, whatever you touched them with would go right through them.
Zach reached his hand over to mine which held the can. Suddenly, his hand went right through the soda, grabbed onto my hand firmly, and thrusted me forward. Luckily, this wasn't his first attempt at kissing me. I rose my hand up to his chest and pushed on him, while bringing my head down. I landed into him in a sort of awkward hug, which he took the moment to enjoy. He knew I wouldn't let it last long.
For some reason, Becca and Rob had no problem with making out and getting all into eachother in front of me. I, on the other hand, have no interest in PDA. Of course, I had thought about being with Zach. I even had dreams about him. Dreams of cuddling with his strong, tall self, playing with his dirty blond hair and gazing into his eyes. But those are only stupid, idiotic, childish dreams that must stay in my head. Zach is always trying to take control of me, trying to kiss me like he just did, and all that stuff. But I won't have any of that. Of course, I know one day I will give in. I have to.
Becca and Rob giggled at us. Becca lay across Rob's lap on my beanbag chair, her arms around his neck. I growled in frustration, both at myself and at Zach. He laughed nervously as I lifted my head to glare at him. My glares suck, however, and the nervous laugh turned into a grin. He ruffled my hair and patted my back.
"Come on Melody, why can't we be like Becca and Rob?" He pleaded. I rolled my eyes at him. He sat cross-legged towards me on the bed. I stretched my legs out in front of me, then turned my back on him. He gently tugged on my shoulders and I let myself slip into his grasp. I landed softly on his chest and closed my eyes. This was as far as I would let it go. He wrapped his arms around me and I rolled my head over onto his arm and breathed in his scent. It was like nothing I could ever describe. I loved his smell. No matter how angry or upset I ever was at Zach, I could just take one wiff of him and it'd be over. He smelled like soap, some kind of guy deoderant, and peppermint all at the same time in a swirling mass of awesomeness.
Sometimes, when I'm intoxicated of him, he starts to get carried away. I heard his breathing begin to get faster and heavier, even though technically he doesn't need to breathe, and start to pull axiously at the sleeve of my robe. It was kind of unfair of me though, since this was Zach's favorite robe that I wear. It's made of blue silk and has puffy clouds on it and is shorter than my usual robes. I also wore tight fitting black shorts with a white t-shirt. I don't know why I do it, but a big part of me likes to show off for Zach. Stupid teenage horomones. Don't they know I have more important things to worry about?!
I shrugged off of Zach's shoulder and ran my fingers through my still wet, yet drying hair.
"It's not fair...you just took a shower and your hair smells so good...." A smile tugged at my lips as Zach muttered this to me. I felt my eyes beginning to droop.
"Come on Becca, we'd better get to sleep before I pass out." I looked over at Becca, who now stood up from the beanbag chair, followed by Rob. She streched lazily, took a few steps, then flopped onto my bed. Rob hated our sleepovers, since he didn't get to spend as much time with Becca as he'd like to. Zach always loved it because then he had a reason to stay up and chat with me.
Becca got under the heavy sheets, and Rob rose them up to her neck, placing them down. He tucked her in, whispered a few goodnight words, kissed her cheek, and walked out of the room. Zach rose from my bed and let me get in. I decided I'd do one nice thing for him, since I did feel sorry for him and all. Becca had already rolled over on the other side, so I didn't have to be worried of her seeing. As Zach tucked me in with as much gentleness as he could, he stopped when he reached my face, and carressed my cheek. What he didn't expect was for me to do the same, but also reach up my head and place my lips in his. I moved my tongue along his lips, and he opened, allowing me in. I only let it last a few seconds, but our tongues touched, and then I broke free.
A blush formed on my lips, but luckily the nightlight didn't let him see. I smiled shyly as he just stared at me, bewildered. I layed back down and closed my eyes. As I heard him walk out, I opened one eye to watch him leave and saw him stumble a bit. I never knew I had that much kissing skills. Maybe it was just the surprise. Probably. Most likely. I knew he would never let me live it down though. I decided to just deal with it in the morning, and let sleep take over me. That night I had many different dreams all about the same thing: me and Zach. The last one, the one I loved most, was of us walking along the beach on a moonlit night, holding hands.
**
The next morning, I awoke to music. I could tell right away it was Zach playing on the piano again. I quickly got dressed in my black butt-kicking outfit. As I drifted over to the grand hall where the piano was set up, a familiar tune that Zach began startled me. It didn't have the country feeling, but more melodic and meaningful than I ever thought a song could be. (AN: Before I get too far, just imagine Zach's voice to be like the lead singer of 'The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus'. And Melody's voice is soft like the singer from 'Plumb')
"I want you to explain yourself." He demanded lightly. I stood up and walked two footsteps away, my back to him. "I d-don't know what you mean...." I heard Zach stand up and stop a breath behind me. "In order to be properly able to protect you, Melody, I must know your feelings towards me at all times." The strictness in his voice made shivers pass through my spine. I hated when he talked like that.
I quickly spun around, causing my hair to curl around my neck. He took one step closer to me, making everything stop around us, out breathing got shorter, and I wished that I could feel his breath that wasn't really there. I closed my eyes and all the sudden....
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" We heard a scream, causing my heart to race rapidly. Both me and Zach whipped our heads around to where the screaming came from. After a few seconds of hearing heavy footsteps and holding my breath, I saw Becca and Robb come out from the dark hallway. "Sorry for the screaming, but Robb scared me when he picked me up from behind." She giggled. I rolled my eyes and laughed. Zach sighed, feeling defeated. "Melody, I hope you and Zach are ready for your combat practice," Robb reminded us. I leaned my elbow against Zach, breathed on my fingernails, and rubbed them on my shirt, casting a glance at Becca and Robb, all in one smooth motion. Becca rolled her eyes at me and started squirming, trying to get out of Robb's arms, even though we all knew she never wanted to.
I hooked arms with Zach and began skipping down the hall with him towards the practice room. It was my favorite and worst favorite room at the same time. I only liked it for the view. It was a glass room that allowed all the lush, green forest seem to be in the room with us. The room was a little messed up from Becca and Robb's practice time, which must have been only a few minutes ago since the room still smelled a bit like sweat.
I was so glad that Zach was my guardian instead of Robb. He kind of freaks me out a bit. I'm a bit afraid of guys with long, dark hair. Maybe it's just weird me. While I was thinking this, Zach tossed me my thin sword. I caught it without any thought. I saw Zach pick up his own sword in a depressed fashion. He was still wondering about my feelings towards him. I just hoped that it wouldn't bug him for too long. Trying to hit me with his sword should get rid of some of the anger dwelling up inside him.
I took a swift swipe at him, aiming at his right side, but he blocked it by simply lowering his sword. His eyes got a sparkle in them. Now it was game time. He jumped up into the air about ten feet high and landed almost ontop of me with his sword, but I thought fast enough and put my sword in between his sword and my face. He smirked and jumped back in a tense stance. I regained myself and skipped over towards him. A few swipes here and there, it was like every other combat day, except for the carefree feeling that was usually in the air.
After about ten more minutes, I put down my sword, sweat beading my forehead and above my lip. My hair felt drenched, so I quickly put it up into a sloppy ponytail. Zach grabbed my sword from off the floor and his and placed them back into their holders. I looked quickly at him, seeing if he was still angry or upset. He seemed like something was still bothering him.
"Okay Zach, I can't stand seeing you like this." I told him, my voice echoing in the room. He looked again over at me and shrugged his shoulders. "Oh come on!" I shouted again.
"It's just that...I don't understand. First you shove me away, then you make a move like you did last night. It's like...I'm some kind of toy to play with. When are you ever going to just let me know how you feel about me?" The way he looked at me with his eyes almost made me want to cry. I didn't want to believe that I caused this much hurt and confusion to someone.
"Zach I...I don't really know. I don't know what's wrong with me, why I do this to you. I guess it's just that...I do have some sort of feelings for you. But...I don't want to tell the whole world. You know what I mean? And we've been just friends for so long, I'm just afraid it might seem weird if we end up like Becca and Robb." I confessed. Tears welled up, but I was determined to not them fall.
He took a few steps toward me, closing the distance between us. "Melody, we don't have to end up like Becca and Robb. Not if you don't want us to. As your guardian, I'm supposed to be the one you can trust and come to. Whether you treat me as a brother, father, lover, or just a friend, it doesn't really matter. It's up to you. I just need to know. And if you're worrying about it being weird, trust me it might be, but it's always ok to try new things, Mel. You don't have to be afraid of me." He laughed quietly.
"I'm...I'm not afraid of you." I defended. He smiled and grabbed my elbows, bringing us closer. "Then what are you afraid of?" He breathed.
"N-nothing..." And I kissed him. Ok so I'm an idiot, we already have that established. I guess I always did have feelings for the guy, I just...I don't know. Maybe I'm just too stubborn. Anyway, it seemed like forever until Zach broke our kiss. "Time for lunch." He told me happily. I sighed and grabbed his arm. He walked together to the huge kitchen. I'm so glad Becca gets to live with me. Incase any of you readers are confused, here's the story: Me and Becca's parents are spies. I know, so stupid sounding, but it's true. Well, the government I guess decided it'd be best and safest if we lived together so it'd be easier to keep track of us. And that way The Society can't get their greedy paws on us as prisoners. Got it? Good.
"What would you like today, Madame?" Zach asked, trying a French accent. I laughed and told him, "Whatever your specialty is, Sir." He grabbed and pan from the far left cupboard. "Grilled cheese it is!" He happily said. It was so easy to like Zach. Then again, it was just as easy to get mad at him. I watched him cook, perfectly placing on the butter-covered bread, cheese, then the other peice of bread. Becca walked in, grabbed a granola bar, and sat next to me at the round table. She smiled at me like she knew a secret. I raised an eyebrow at her, but she just opened the granola and took a small bite out of it.
"Becca...what do you know?" I glared at her. She looked around the room like I wasn't talking to her, the smile still playing at the edges of her lips. "Oh nothing, nothing...." She giggled. I rolled my eyes and rested my head on my arms, which layed on the table. Zach still stood staring at the cooking sandwich, checking to make sure it didn't burn. Becca elbowed me lightly, so I turned to look over at her. She was fully smiling now. "WHAT?!" I mouthed.
Becca tossed her head over to Zach. I shrugged my shoulders. She winked at me, letting me know that she somehow found out. I hid my face in my arms. I knew I would never hear the end of this from her. Robb could tease me to no end now. Just as I heard the sizzling of the grilled cheese being flipped over, Robb decides to come in.
"WOO HOO! YOU GUYS FINALLY KISSED!!!" He yelled, patting Zach on the back. I kept my head down and felt my face get beat red. "NOW WE CAN DOUBLE DATE!!!" Becca, already having eaten her granola bar, began laughing with Robb. She walked up to the trashcan and threw away the wrapper. Just as they began to leave, I heard Robb yell, "DON'T FORGET TO USE PROTECTION YOU TWO!!!!" I squeaked with embarrasment, but Zach chuckled. Once he decided my grilled cheese was finished, he grabbed my favorite china plate, the one with intricate flowers decorated all over it, and placed the sandwich on it. He cut it in half diagonal and placed it in front of me.

Not bad for the length of the first chapter, huh? Guess what!!! Ok, here's the plan. What I'm going to do is let anyone who has any questions ask in the reviews and stuff, ok? Then I'll post them back on here at the end of the chapter and I'll be doing it for every chapter. I will not be giving away any spoilers though. You can ask Melody, Zach, Robb, Becca, or even ME any questions that you have. They don't have to be serious, they can just be about whatever so have fun with the questions and keep on reading!! Thanks!

"Everytime our eyes meet
This feeling inside me
Is almost more than I can take....
Baby, when you touch me
I can feel how much you love me
And it just blows me away....
I've never been this close to anyone or anything
I can hear your thoughts
I can see your dreams
I don't how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you
It just keeps gettin' better....
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever....
Every little thing that you do
Baby, I'm amazed by you...."
I knew the next part of the song. I couldn't help but sing it.This feeling inside me
Is almost more than I can take....
Baby, when you touch me
I can feel how much you love me
And it just blows me away....
I've never been this close to anyone or anything
I can hear your thoughts
I can see your dreams
I don't how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you
It just keeps gettin' better....
I wanna spend the rest of my life with you by my side
Forever and ever....
Every little thing that you do
Baby, I'm amazed by you...."
"The smell of your skin
The taste of your kiss
The way you whisper in the dark"
Zach smiled, turned around to face me, and began to sing the next part. The taste of your kiss
The way you whisper in the dark"
"Your hair all around me
Baby, you surround me
Touch every place in my heart
Oh it feels like the first time
Every time
I wanna spend the whole night
In your eyes"
The next part we sung together. We knew we probably sounded like a horrible duet, but we didn't care.Baby, you surround me
Touch every place in my heart
Oh it feels like the first time
Every time
I wanna spend the whole night
In your eyes"
"I don't know how you do what you do
I'm so in love with you
It just keeps gettin' better...."
I took this time to sit next to him on the piano bench as we belted out our loud voices.I'm so in love with you
It just keeps gettin' better...."
"I wanna spend the rest of my life
With you by my side
Forever and ever....
Every little thing that you do
Baby, I'm amazed by you
Every little thing that you do
So in love with you
It just keeps gettin' betterrrr....
I wanna spend the rest of my life
With you by my side
Forever and everrrr...."
Zach took the lead now and I sung the backup parts. With you by my side
Forever and ever....
Every little thing that you do
Baby, I'm amazed by you
Every little thing that you do
So in love with you
It just keeps gettin' betterrrr....
I wanna spend the rest of my life
With you by my side
Forever and everrrr...."
"Every little thing that you do
Ooooh (every little thing that you do)
Every little thing that you do"
We sung the last part together.Ooooh (every little thing that you do)
Every little thing that you do"
"Baby I'm amazed by
Youuuuu...."
Zach played the last chords of the song, then wrapped his arms around me. We laughed at our horrible singing, then Zach suddenly looked down at the floor, avoiding my gaze. I guessed he was thinking about last night. "Um...Mel?" I drooped my head at the sound of my name, but he quickly lifted my chin and forced my eyes to look at his. My heart fluttered for some reason. I didn't understand it. Zach has been doing things like this ever since I knew him. Why the sudden change?Youuuuu...."
"I want you to explain yourself." He demanded lightly. I stood up and walked two footsteps away, my back to him. "I d-don't know what you mean...." I heard Zach stand up and stop a breath behind me.

Thanks!
