Chapter Seven:
One Man Army
Intro
The Rue Sant D'Alsa Cliffs stand in dark and majestic contrast to the shimmering black beach of the Rue Vermillion Sea, which does not reflect the star-filled night sky, what for the cloud cover.
The old ones- the ones who joined in the Great War, making them six thousand years old- who now sit in the darker corners of taverns where the firelight cannot reach often say that one could hold Rue Sant D'Alsa Castle with six human grandmothers swinging brooms.
What they say is most likely true, for the road up the Cliffs is narrow and long, and the Castle's soldiers hide in many places along the way, and though the gate is wide, it never opens wide enough for more than one man to fit through at a time.
Deep within this dark, impregnable fortress made of black stone that shines in the moonlight and gleams brightly enough in the day to blind lies an ancient evil, older and more powerful than Obsidian, or even Satan. It sleeps, curled into a circle and hiding within a Wheel of stone, and it waits. And every now and then, as Obsidian strokes the center of the Wheel and murmurs condolences, it opens its eyes and it knows that soon, it will live.

Seiji strode through the darkened streets of Tokyo, his feet splashing through puddles of water that shone in the witching hour moonlight, his hands clenched at his sides and his head bowed.
He always felt strange after he fed- his conscience, maybe- his hands always trembled for a little while after and his stomach always felt odd, as though he would be sick.
"Sir, may we ask you some questions- it won't take too long, I promise." The voice belonged to a young-looking man, he was maybe a little older than Seiji himself, and wearing a tan-colored trench coat, which was wet on the bottom as he was standing in a murky puddle. "Sir, this area is a crime scene. Have you noticed anything unusual about the area?"
"Aside from you," Seiji retorted, not feeling at all like dealing with a detective or an investigation- he had no good reason to be in Tokyo, and his residence was in Sendai, on the northern island- in other words, it didn't look normal for him to be there, and abnormal was exactly what the detectives sought.
"Sir, we've been dealing with four unusual murders and the disappearance of one of our prized officers. Please cooperate, else we shall haul you into the station and question you." Said another man, an older man, like that old guy off Law and Order, and he was obviously higher in the chain of command.
Seiji snarled inwardly, but said aloud, in the epitome of polite coldness, "I saw and heard nothing, officers. My sense of smell is none so good as it used to be, what with the snot clogging it, but the place doesn't smell right."
The officers nodded and agreed: the place did smell strange, not bad, but strange, and scary- and Seiji knew they feared him.
"It is not dead body smell- a cadaver smells different from this, and much softer- it is not capable of filling an entire area," Seiji said, just to put them on edge- he liked putting people on edge.
They nodded, and thanked him, and Seiji fled to the corner, where he teleported back to Sendai, leaving behind two very nervous detectives and a very bad smell.
"I don't like that guy," said Yoshidata, "he puts my Detective Sense on edge."
"No shit," replied Tanaka easily.

Had anyone seen the look on Seiji's face as he walked from the kitchen into the main hall, they would have cowered or run and Seiji would not have cared which they chose.
No Demon was above murder, but most had the decency to be subtle or at least point to a human- and Obsidian's actions were neither, and he was obvious enough about it to allow the humans to notice.
Nasuti and Hikari sprawled on the sofa in the living room, Nasuti reading Hikari a spell book, her gentle voice rising and falling with the melody of the poem. She did not look up at his entry.
"I need to talk to you. Do you mind?" Seiji said brusquely, his voice oddly coarse in his ears.
"Well, I'm rather busy." Nasuti replied, smiling and encouraging Hikari to continue his light spell. "Good boy! Now make the ball of light bigger!"
Hikari nodded and the orb of light appearing above their heads grew.
"Good. Now learn to banish it."
The orb disappeared with a faint popping sound.
"Nasuti, this is urgent." Seiji insisted. "Hikari, to the Daemon Realm. No argument, go visit Sliph."
Hikari nodded and disappeared, also with a faint popping sound.
Nasuti regarded Seiji with a dry look. "Well, you got rid of our son. Anything else you would like to be rid of?"
"There is a six thousand year old Demon on the loose, Nasuti. I can trust the Sliph to fight to her death for our son."
"Six…thousand years old? Are you referring to the Lord of Shadow?" Nasuti asked, her mythology training and the lore she'd heard as a Siren's daughter catching up with her.
"Oh yes. And here's another interesting bit of information: the Lord of Shadow has located the Wheel of Nine Souls. The deaths of Sarah Ebullient, Ukyo and various other humans is an attempt to waken the Wheel's Guardian."
An animalistic cry from another room and a wave of dark, cruel energy alerted him to a Demon's presence in his home.
"No warning, or sense of danger approaching." Seiji muttered, already donning his under-gear.
He sprinted to that wing of the house, sliding into his room after tripping on a conveniently placed child's toy.

Jun stood before the master bed, holding a bloody dagger and wearing nothing but a wicked, fearless grin.
His eyes were oddly blank, and glowed blood red. Blood dripped from his mouth like a madman's saliva, and when he laughed, the laugh was cruel and merciless.
"Jun?" Seiji asked weakly, his voice failing him on "why have you done this".
"Not anymore." That cocky grin, just like Inuyasha's but far more evil, didn't look right on the lad. Seiji wasn't sure that grin would look right on anyone.
"What do you mean?" Seiji asked suspiciously.
"Well, try this," Jun said, flipping open the closet door. "My old best friend."
With that, Jun pulled something's head out, and held up his sick 'trophy' for Seiji to see.
=====
Wee! I had too much fun with that entire scene. Think Jun might piss all over his head…
And Max, even you didn't see this coming! Ha, ha!
