A Birthday to Remember
~*~ Chapter 4 ~*~
Sunlight streamed through high windows, illuminating the figures lying in a tangle of silk sheets. Golden hair and skin gleamed against a creamy white chest, legs entwined undistinguishable of where they started and ended. Lazily a pale, long fingered hand slowly stroked the soft skin of his companions' back, eyes half open and drowsy.
A gentle sigh echoed as the other man burrowed contentedly further into his embrace, mumbling softly as he swung his arm up to rest upon his chest. D smiled softly as he opened his eyes fully to look down at the slumbering man in his arms. He knew that he was waking and would at any moment open his eyes. Soon he would discover if everything he had dreamed about would come true.
He watched as Leon's eyes slowly fluttered open, a dazed and dreamy look in his jade green depths. As he slowly became aware of his surroundings, D could feel the muscles beneath his hand begin to tighten. Then suddenly, all the tightness faded as the arm across his chest moved into an embrace, pulling him closer to that wonderful heat. Green eyes sparkled slightly as they meet mismatched gold and amethyst.
"Good morning." Leon murmured softly as he leaned forward slightly and dropped a light kiss on D's neck.
"Yes, quite a lovely morning it is." D answered as he brought his wandering hand up from Leon's back to cup the back of his head, tilting it upwards to receive his kiss. Their lips meet gently, a kiss of tenderness not passion. D lifted his head as the sound of Leon's growling stomach interrupted them.
"Sorry." Leon said chagrined, a sheepish smile crossing his face as he drew his hand up to bury it in his mused hair.
"You must be starving, you didn't eat anything yesterday. Why don't I fix us some breakfast?" D said as he slid out from under Leon. Leon moved to rise, but was summarily pushed back down into the sheets. "Stay here, I won't be but a moment." D said, dropping a quick kiss on Leon's nose, before pulling on his robe and hurrying out of the room.
Leon watched as D scampered out of the room and leaned back into the pillows with a sigh, pulling the sheet up around his hips. So much had happened in the last day and a half, that his mind was just beginning to process it.
`How had D known what was going on with him? Who had told him?' he thought. `Only very few of the people at the precinct knew about the story.' He closed his eyes trying to visualize who would have been at the department the day before yesterday that could have told D about his parents.
His musing was interrupted by D as he bustled in carrying a large tray. He sat farther up into bed as D placed the tray on the small table next to the bed and handed him a cup of steaming brew. He quietly sipped the tea as he watched D fuss nervously with the contents of the tray.
"D stop that and come here," he said as he leaned forward bringing his cup down from his lips. He watched as D jumped slightly at his words. "Why are you so nervous suddenly?"
"I wanted to ask you something." D said, his fingers twisting apprehensively, his eyes looking anywhere but at Leon.
Leon looked at the bowed head and leaned forward to put his cup on the edge of the tray before gently putting his fingers beneath D's chin and drawing it upwards until their eyes locked.
"Leon, would you stay with here with me forever?" D asked softly, his eyes filled with nervousness the belied his straight face.
Leon looked down at D, his heart almost stopped by such simple words. The vision of his life had changed in the matter of just one night. One night that had opened his eyes and heart and it scared him. One moment he had been drowning his sorrows in a bottle of whiskey and then the next reveling in heated passion.
His mind swum with endless possibilities to this dilemma, he could continue on as they had before choosing to ignore what had transpired between them, or he could face this and explore the opportunity of deepening their relationship.
Looking up into those mis-matched eyes, he couldn't at that very moment think of anything else other than being able to see them as they were now. So expressive, he could see the love and apprehension swimming within those endless depths. Reaching up he cupped D's cheek gently stroking his thumb along one high cheekbone.
"Why me? I am nothing but a broken down cop that has been hounding you, looking for any opportunity to bust you." Leon said, looking slightly bewildered and hopeful.
"You're a wonderful detective and care a great deal for the people that you serve and protect. Those admirable traits are what initial drew me to you. Your continuous attempts to arrest me prove that." D quipped lightly, a small smirk twitching at his lips.
"Ha ha, very funny." Leon scowled, "However, you still haven't answered my question."
"Maybe it was because during all those times somewhere along the way I fell in love with you." D answered softly.
Leon's eyes widened and his hand dropped from D's cheek at his unexpected declaration. His heart began to pound loudly as his mind was blown completely away. `D actually loved him.' he thought. This wonderful mysterious man loved him.
"I'm sorry." D whispered dejectedly as he watched Leon stared up at in him imagined horror. As he began to draw away, Leon suddenly galvanized into action. Reaching up he grabbed D and pulled him onto the bed, flipping him over to pin him down. D struggled against Leon, unknowingly leaving shallow grooves in his arms from his sharp fingernails. Leon captured D's hands and held them in a strong grip above his head, locking him into his embrace.
"D. . .D. . .Stop struggling and listen to me!" Leon said sharply, looking down into the startled, pale face that turned sharply up to him. D's eyes betrayed their anguish, and Leon locked both of D's hands into one of his before bringing the free hand down to caress his cheek softly.
"D, you are a wonderful person and I would be honored to accept your love. But only if you will accept mine in return." Leon said softly, his eyes shining with his emotions.
"Truly, you really love me?" D whispered, hope catching in his breath.
"Yes D, I love you and I will stay with you however long you want me to," he replied, bending forward to seal their lips together, strengthening his words with actions.

The time passes quickly and already another year had flown by. Leon straightened up his desk as he prepared to leave for the day.
"Hey Leon, wait up!" yelled out a familiar voice as he was sliding his coat on. Turning he found Jill hurrying across the room towards him, sliding to a halt slightly short of breath.
"Hey, I wanted to ask if you could cover for me this weekend," she said in a quick rush of words.
He smiled down at her as he shook his head, "Sorry, I have plans for this weekend and they don't involve working."
"But, Leon. . ." she started and stopped suddenly as Leon's eyes seemed to light up as he stared at something behind her. Whipping around she came face to chest with dark blue chengsom decorated with tiny dragons.
"Yes my dear, I am afraid Leon has other plans for this weekend. It's his birthday and we are going away on a vacation." D's voice quipped lightly as he walked around her and up to Leon. Reaching out he took his hand and pulled it to his lips, kissing it lightly. "Are you ready to leave love?"
"All set here." Leon said as he looked down into D's beautiful eyes, before turning to Jill. "Sorry, but you'll have to find someone else to cover for you. Have a good weekend," he said before pulling D with him out of the precinct offices.
Jill watched, her mouth agape for a second before a wicked grin appeared on her face. "Well I'll be."
