Disclaimer: I make no profit from the characters of The Pet Shop of Horrors. They belong to Matsuri Akino. Li, Shang, and Lynn, however, are of my own creation and do belong to me…, D…, and no one else...for now.

Warnings: This story contains suggestions of a Yaoi relationship. If you don't like Yaoi, then you're not even supposed to be reading this warning because I previously warned you about it in the description!

Author's Note: Okay, I made a couple of mistakes in chapter 11. I mentioned that Lynnhad orange hair, and then I later said that he had red hair. Just pretend that he has red-orange hair, please. Also, you may have read the wrong version of chapter 11 so please go back and be certain that you read the finished version. I had to repost it when I discovered on my comp that I had saved the wrong thing. Thank goodness I had it on disk. I will stop my blathering now. ^_^

"Hello beloved."

D tried to pull away.

"No," Li tightened his embrace. "I don't want you to see him. I want you to think only of me."

"Li, what are you doing? What have you done to Leon?"

"Your precious mortal is safe. I merely pushed him aside."

Despite Li's simple assurance, D's worry for the detective had not abated. "Bring him back now."

"Not yet," Li said. "I want to hold you for a little while longer…"

But he did so much more. He kissed D's neck and shoulder, and pulled the black garment further down D's slender arms to expose more of his pale skin, then nibbled on his delicate looking flesh.

The count closed his eyes as memories of their life together swarmed him. The dragon knew just how to please him -where to touch him. Years had passed since they had had the pleasure of enjoying each other's body. Although Li was still within his heart, it was Leon that he loved the most, and D could not disregard that.

"Li, no," D gave him a gentle shove.

Li refused to let him go. He pressed his hardness against D's. "If I take you now, you won't stop me because you will not hurt him."

He was right. D would never hurt the detective, but he could not allow Li to take him. He did not want to belong to Shang. Desperation spurred him to think quickly.

"If you do this, I will hate you," he said.

"You do not mean that," Li brushed the detective's lips over the soft skin just behind D's ear. "I can give you what you want."

"Li, you cannot. You don't have the right -"

"I have every right," he interrupted him, "and you will give in to me."

D's body suddenly shook with laughter.

Li became puzzled at his reaction. "Why do my words amuse you?"

"You and your brother think alike."

Li stiffened. "Shang is here?"

D smiled mischievously. "Yes, and he believes that I will give in to him as well."

"What?"

D used Li's anger to his advantage. "He hopes that I break my mourning so that he may have me. He even offered to do it himself. I was so insulted."

"My poor beloved…I will not let him have you," Li swore. "I will do everything in my power to restrain myself...and the American."

"Can you?" D sounded uncertain of his abilities.

"I will try," he said. "My brother can be quite dangerous with his passions."

Yes, D thought, remembering the little jade bottle that Shang had shown him. It still made him tremble. How had Shang procured it and what had he done to make himself immune to its spell of protection?

D cupped the back of the detective's blond head and said, "Please Li, if you truly want to help me, bring Leon back."

"I do not want to, beloved," Li admitted, "but if it is what you want…"

Li claimed his lips again and kissed D with all of the fiery emotion that he had harbored for him. D sighed into his mouth, shocked that even after so many years; he was still moved by Li's physical affection.

Leon's body slumped against him. Li's mental invasion had overwhelmed the detective's body.

D stroked Leon's hair and thought of what he had accomplished. He now had Li on his side to aid him in his battle against Shang. D had no doubt that there would be an unpleasant encounter. The blue dragon warrior had not brought the jade bottle just for show. He planned to use it, and the count could not afford to let that happen.

Leon awakened and found Q-Chan sitting on his chest, staring down at him. The freakish looking, long eared, yellow creature gave him the creeps.

"D! Get this thing off me!"

Q-Chan hissed at him and flew out of the room.

A few minutes later, the count entered carrying a tray of tea and apricot tarts.

"You left him here to torture me," Leon accused him.

"Oh, detective, do not be so mean. Q-Chan was worried about you," D said.

"He was probably trying to eat me!"

"Nonsense," D told him. "You are far too large to be consumed by him."

"You and Jill can defend him all you want, but I know that he has it out for me."

"Really, detective," D set the tray on the bedside table and sat down on a lavishly designed Chinese wooden chair.

"How long have I been asleep?"

"For four hours…"

Shit!

"Jill came by to see if everything was all right. She was worried when you did not return to the office. I told her that you were taking a nap -"

"Jesus, D," Leon sat up. His face had turned red with embarrassment.

"Tea?" D handed him a dainty cup.

"No," he said and placed the teacup back on the tray, spilling some of the liquid over the gold painted rim.

Four hours was a long time in Leon's perspective. He must have been exhausted.

He noticed that the count was unusually morose.

"D, what's wrong?"

His amber and violet eyes wavered with sadness. He had had the same expression when Li had passed away.

"You…saw him. You saw Li."

"He showed himself to me," D nodded.

"What did he want?"

D flushed and said, "It is not important."

Leon took one look at his face and bristled with anger. "Oh, that. I didn't realize that you considered it as unimportant."

"Nothing happened," D assured him.

Well, thank God!

It would be cruel of fate to allow Li to have D while he was in Leon's body.

"There is something I must show you, detective," the count said.

"More surprises," Leon muttered, still in shock that Li had managed to take over his body.

D led him down to the shop.

"When Shang first came to retrieve Li's body, he left something of his behind." D crouched down near a medium sized cage and pulled a blue silk covering off the top of it.

Leon's eyes widened as he saw the familiar looking animal that lay inside.

"That's a dragon," he said.

It was blue and very similar to Li's dragon, except it appeared to be a bit on the thin side. It raised its horned head and looked at Leon. The dragon's nostrils flared. It let forth a low growl and snorted out a thick stream of smoke.

"Yes," D said. "It is Shang's dragon, his animal spirit."

"Why is it here?"

"He wanted me to nurse it back to health. He knew that I would not refuse his request, considering that I was responsible for Li's death." D placed his hand against the cage. The dragon touched his snout to D's palm and sniffed.

"Why did you show him to me?"

"Because, detective, he is the reason why we could not break my period of mourning. Shang knew that you were here and he knows that you are here right now. His animal spirit is an extension of himself."
What better way to keep an eye on D while he was away. Shang had killed two birds with one stone. His dragon would be cared for and had maintained a link to him so that he could monitor D's activities.

"You should have told me this before," Leon said irritably.

"What could you have done?" D asked.

"Taken you to my apartment," Leon burst out, stirring the animal. "He would have never known that we'd -"

"I'm not so sure," D said, blushing. "Shang has very keen senses."

He would have smelled Leon's scent on him.

"He's a keen pain in the ass…"

D spoke softly to the dragon in Chinese, ignoring Leon's comment.

"What are we going to do about Li?"

"We'll have to convince him to move on," D stated.

"Come on, do you really think that will work?"

"No. He seems determined to have me."

Leon glowered. There is no way in hell that that is going to happen!

He found D staring at him. "What?"

The count smiled and said, "You are jealous."

"What, you're a mind reader now?" Leon snapped.

D placed his hand in his and said, "I forgive your surliness."

The count then remembered that he had seen a small package on the counter earlier and had forgotten to open it.

"You spoil me with your gifts, detective."

Leon gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

"It's not very expensive," he warned, when D stood to retrieve the present.

The scent that filled the room once the gift was opened was heavenly. Overwhelmed by the smell, D began to cry.

Leon was caught off guard by his reaction.

"Oh, Leon…you have no idea how much I needed this!"

What was the big deal? It was just cinnamon rolls covered in white frosting. He had never seen D act this way before. It startled him.

Leon wiped his tears away, and kissed his lips.

"I could sure use some tea," Leon told him.

D smiled weakly. "You liar, I know that you hate my tea."

Leon hated all teas, but D was down in the dumps and he wanted to cheer him up. "Come on, make some more and I'll help you eat those rolls. I haven't had any lunch today."

"Very well."

Leon was impressed with his self-control. For the first time in weeks, he did not have the urge to jump D. It was a new level of their relationship. They could finally enjoy each other's company without having to resort to sexual intimacy. Of course, Leon knew where his restraint was coming from, and he could not help to think that Li was having the last laugh at his expense.

*****

The scent of cinnamon, incense, and tobacco haunted him. The count did not indulge in cigarettes, which meant that the scent belonged to another.

The detective, he mused.

He had been meaning to do something about the American. The detective had also played a role in his brother's demise, and it was his duty to see that he would pay.

Lynn's slender, naked body was reddened with bite marks, bruises, and welts. Shang had been perhaps a little too rough with him -or rather with the count. Envisioning the dark haired D in Lynn's stead had made Shang more forceful, impassioned, and impatient.

He wanted D within his possession, and what he wanted, he would get.

Everything has been revealed...or has it? There is still that jade bottle that D is so afraid of, and what of Lynn? What dark secret does he hold? *suspense, suspense* ^_^!
