Chapter 1

Leaving New Bark Town

It was a beautiful morning, today was the day that new Pokemon trainers would go out into the world. A girl slept peacefully, like everyone else should be. Her eyes snapped open, a smile twisted on her face. She got out of bed, and walked into her closet. Getting dressed into a white jacket, bright red tank top, and yellow-and-green bike shorts. She walked into the bathroom, finding that her hair looked worse than a wicked witch's head. She had combed it and used a bit of hair spray to make it to look a little like Officer Jenny's hair-do. She then packed a few things into a small, worn-out backpack, and ran down the stairs into the living room. It was 7:39 when she ran down the stairs. "Good morning, Crystal!" greeted Crystal Clear's mother, Marina. "Morning, Monster." teased Crystal's brother, Jack. "Jack... For the Millionth Time... I AM NOT A MONSTER!!!" Crystal yelled angrily. Crystal couldn't wait to leave the house, to get away from her annoying, older brother. "Crystal, aren't you hungry?" asked Crystal's mother. "You bet I am!" replied Crystal. Crystal was so hungry and excited that she ate 7 bowls of rice, and 4 pieces of French toast. Her mother and brother eyes widened at how Crystal can really eat that much and still be a little skinny. When she was done, her mother gave Crystal a new backpack. It had a little picture of Crystal's favorite Pokemon together, Ninetales and Houndoom. "Thanks, Mom." Crystal said. "You're welcome.... We're rooting for you, baby!" Marina Clear spoke, tears running down her cheeks as she hugged her only daughter. She knew this day would come, she just wished that it wouldn't have came so soon. "See ya, Squirt." Jack said, their mother letting go of Crystal and sobbing into his jacket. "Bye, Mom. See you later, Jack. I'm really gonna miss you both a whole lot." Crystal spoke, a small tear finding its way out of her eye and down the side of her face. Jack took out a small device, handing it to Crystal. "Since Mom won't stop crying, I think I better give this to you. It's your Pokegear." Crystal held it in her hand, putting it into her new back pack. She cracked a smile to her family. "Good... Bye...." She slowly walked backwards, then turned around and walked down the street and into a large house. It was the New Bark Town Pokemon Lab.

"Ah, Crystal! I've been waiting for you!" Professor Elm spoke with a smile. "Well, I'm here now!" Crystal said cheerfully. "Well, as you know, you get your first Pokemon today. You will have to pick carefully ..." Prof. Elm said with a slow tone. "All righty! Let me see!" Crystal spoke, looking at a table with 6 balls on it. Professor Elm had let all of the trapped Pokemon out. There was a Chikorita, Totodile, Cyndaquil, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and a Squirtle. "Ohhhhhhhhhh, they're all so cute!" exclaimed Crystal, stars in her eyes. "Well, I know I'm not supposed to do this, but you may have 2 if you'd like." Professor Elm spoke, adjusting his glasses and looking towards the ground. "Really? Yay! I'll take Bulbasaur and Totodile!" Crystal gasped with a happy tone. "Ok, here are their Pokeballs. Oh, and before I forget... Here is your Pokedex, and here are some more Pokeballs, but these are empty." said Professor Elm, handing Crystal what she needed. "Thank you SO much, Professor Elm! I promise that I'll take good care of my new Pokemon!" Crystal spoke loudly, almost as if she thought she were dreaming. "I know you will. Your brother's Pokemon, Blastoise... I've seen you take care of it. You really do care about Pokemon." Professor Elm said, smiling. "Oh, thank you, Professor." Crystal said, touched by what he had said, which was true. "Well, you better go," said Prof. Elm. "Why?" asked Crystal, a bit clueless of why she had to leave so early in the day. "So you can train your Pokemon, catch new ones, and usually trainers are supposed to go out and start before they get to much behind." spoke Prof. Elm. "Oh, I know what you mean. Bye, Professor!" Crystal yelled, running out of the lab as if skipping swiftly. "Bye, Crystal." waved Professor Elm.

Crystal decided that she would take her Pokemon out, tossing both Pokeballs to the ground. The small, plant-type Pokemon and dinosaur-like Pokemon popped out of the balls with a flash of white light. "Bulba? Saur? Bulba? <Who? What? Where?>" the small Pokemon with the bulb on its back asked, looking around. It looked to Crystal, as did the Pokemon known as Totodile. "Hi there!" Crystal greeted with a smile. "I'm Crystal, and you two are my cool, new Pokemon!" "Totodile? Totodile toto! <Cool? Cool Pokemon!>" Totodile exclaimed, hopping up and down, from left foot to the right foot. The Bulbasaur watched the Totodile dance, then spoke. "Bulbasaur bulbasaur bulba? <We're your Pokemon now?>" Crystal nodded with a smile, showing them their Pokeballs. One with a leaf on it and one with a rain drop of it. "Bulba... <Oh...>" "Hey, now that we know each other, mind if I give you two nicknames?" Crystal asked, a slight grin on her face. "Bulbasaur... Bulbasaur bulba! <Sure... As long as it's not stupid!>" "Okie dokie! How about... Leafy?" Crystal asked with a sweatdrop. "Bulbasaur bulba! Bulba... Bulbasaur... <That's a stupid name! But... All right...>" Bulbasaur spoke with a sigh, looking at the ground. "Totodile! Totodile! <Me Next! Me Next!>" Totodile exclaimed happily, continuing its dance. "Umm... Shelly?" Crystal asked with a slight giggle. Totodile stopped dancing and tilted its head. "Totodile totodile? <Do I look like a Squirtle?>" "All right, all right! How about.... Toto?" Crystal asked once more with a sigh. "Totodile Toto! <That's better!>" Totodile answered, beginning its dance once more. "All righty then! Let's get going!" Crystal exclaimed, all three of them walking down the path.

They walked for a while, until Toto and Leafy stopped walking. Crystal stopped as well, looking to her two Pokemon. "What's wrong, Girls?" "Bulbasaur bulba... <There's a Pokemon up ahead...>" Leafy answered, staring straight ahead. "Hmm? What kind is it?" Crystal asked, looking up the road. "Totodile.... Totodile toto? <I think it's an.... Eevee perhaps?>" Toto asked himself, sniffing. "An Eevee?? Wow! That's a really cool Normal-type Pokemon! Let's go catch it!" Crystal exclaimed, running ahead, Leafy and Toto running after her. Crystal found the Eevee biting the grassy part of the stone path, playfully practicing its Bite attack. "Leafy! Tackle attack!" she commanded, pointing to the Eevee. Leafy ran at the Eevee, tackling it with all its might."Toto! Scratch It Now!" Toto jumped up, scratching the Eevee on its back. It fell to the ground, weakened and beaten. "Ok. Pokeball, go!" exclaimed Crystal, throwing the ball she held at the Eevee. The ball hit the Eevee, sucking it into the ball. It tried to escape, but Crystal and her Pokemon were at a bit of a higher level. "Wow! I captured an Eevee as my first Pokemon!" Crystal cheered happily. A boy ran up the path, not looking happy. "You give back that Eevee now!!" the boy demanded. "Why should I? I captured it fair and square..." Crystal smirked. "That's my Eevee you have there!" the boy told loudly. "Who are you?" asked Crystal. "My name is James. Now, give back my Eevee!!" yelled the boy. "Hey, how annoying can you get? I can battle you for the Eevee... This little one sure doesn't want to go back with you..." Crystal spoke calmly with a glare. "Ok, I'll have to win it back!" yelled the boy. "I choose you, Leafy!" said Crystal. Bulbasaur was ready to battle, she jumped in front of Crystal and got ready to battle. "Then, I'll choose my, Beedrill!" yelled James, a large bee with three stingers appeared with a bright white light. "Leafy, use Vine Whip!" commanded Crystal. Leafy wrapped its vines around his Beedrill, but Beedrill broke through it. Leafy glared at the Beedrill with hateful eyes. Just when she learned a new attack right that minute, that stupid Pokemon had to ruin it. Flames appeared in Leafy's eyes, they burnt with the passion of victory. She then used an attack she was never supposed to learn, Flamethrower. That defeated Beedrill in a matter of seconds. Crystal, Eevee, Toto, James, and the Beedrill were all wide-eyed to see that a Grass-type Pokemon had learned an attack that it's supposed to be weak against. "Wow! Leafy! You are 1 special Pokemon!" exclaimed Crystal, still wide-eyed. "<Even I'm surprised I could do that....>" Leafy spoke, blinking. "Look's like I win, and I get to keep the Eevee!" Crystal cheered with an annoyingly delightful tone to James. "Fine! I can catch another one anyway!" James yelled, running back down the path to who-knows-where. Crystal released her new Eevee. "<Thank you so very much for saving me from that maniac!>" thanked Eevee. "No problem... Is it ok if I nickname you?" asked Crystal. "<Go ahead!>" Eevee answered with a smile. "Ok, how about... Eve?" asked Crystal, smiling since she knew this name would fit perfectly. "<That one's good... Sounds like my real name!>" giggled Eve the Eevee. "Ok then, Eve it is!" spoke Crystal, giggling herself. Eve was so happy to have a better trainer, it jumped up into the air and into Crystal's arms, licking her face. "Hey, stop that! It tickles!" laughed Crystal, trying to escape from her tickling prison. Leafy and Toto laughed along with Crystal. Eve had stopped licking Crystal's face a few minutes after when Crystal returned her to her new Pokeball. They began to start walking again, then Leafy began a conversation. "<Crystal, what is your favorite Pokemon?>" "Well, I really like Ninetales and Houndoom. But, other then those 2, the 3 of you are my favorites... Why?" asked Crystal with a smile. "<Just wanted to know...>" Leafy spoke, looking from up at Crystal, back to the road ahead.

Just then, Leafy and Toto stopped once more. "What is it this time?" asked Crystal, annoyed. "<You won't believe it...>" "<There's a Vulpix up ahead.>" Toto finished for Leafy. "WHAT?" Crystal asked with a loud voice. "Let's go catch it!" Crystal and her Pokemon ran up the hill, they got to the top to find a dark red Vulpix. It looked closer to a red color than to a bright brown though. "Toto, Water Gun attack!" commanded Crystal, staring at the Vulpix with starry eyes. Toto opened its mouth, revealing a strong river of water hitting and weakening the Vulpix. Vulpix's were Fire-type Pokemon, so they are weak against Water-type attacks. "Go, Pokeball go!" yelled Crystal, throwing another ball once more. The ball sucked the Vulpix in, capturing it officially. "Yay! We caught a Vulpix!" Crystal cheered. "I think I'll nickname this Vulpix.... Beauty." They were walking for a little while longer, then, there was an explosion in the east. Four Pokeballs fell to the ground from the sky, landing right in front of Crystal. She picked them up, wanting to see what Pokemon were inside. She called the 4 pokemon out, all were Houndoom. "Wow! My very 1st favorite Pokemon right in front of my eyes!" exclaimed Crystal. All the Houndoom ran and jumped on top Crystal, made her fall, and they began licking her face. "Hey! Hey! Stop! That tickles!" Crystal laughed for the second time today. After 4 minutes had passed, the Houndooms got off of Crystal. "What gender are all of you?" Crystal asked with a tilted head. "<Him and me are boys.>" the biggest Houndoom spoke, pointing its muzzle to one of the other Houndooms. "That must mean that you two are girls?" asked Crystal, looking to the last two Houndooms. "<Yup!>" both female Houndooms spoke in unison. "Ok, now for nicknames... Boys, how about... You Howly and you Growly?" asked Crystal. "<Ok.>" said the big Houndoom. "<It's all right with me!>" spoke the other Houndoom. "Ok... And, you girls, how about... You Daisy and you Peony?" asked Crystal. "<Ok!>" both girl Houndooms spoke in unison once more. "I guess I'll leave Eevee with Professor Elm. I'll call him right now..." Crystal spoke softly. Just then, her Pokegear rang. When she had gotten it out, she found out that it was Professor Elm. "Hello Crystal! How are you? How many Pokemon have you captured?" asked Professor Elm. "Oh, I'm fine. Thanks for asking. I've captured 2 pokemon so far. But, there was a big explosion, and 4 Pokeballs dropped right from the sky. I checked what kind of Pokemon were in them, and I found out that there were 4 Houndooms," answered Crystal. "Really? Well, you're going to have to send two of your Houndooms to me. You can only keep 6 Pokemon with you. Remember?" asked Prof. Elm. "Yeah, I remember. Can I send you Beauty and Eve instead?" asked Crystal. "Beauty and Eve? Don't you mean Adam and Eve?" humored Professor Elm. "Heh... That's very amusing, Professor Elm. Beauty and Eve are the 2 Pokemon I captured. Eve is the Eevee, and Beauty is a Vulpix," said Crystal. "Ok. Hold on." spoke Professor Elm. Just then, the Pokeballs that contained Beauty and Eve disappeared. "Professor, Professor!! Beauty and Eve's Pokeballs are gone!!" paniced Crystal. "Don't you mean, Beauty and the Beast?" Professor Elm humored himself once more. "It's not that funny anymore, Elm. Now where did they go?!" Crystal yelled angrily. "Don't worry, Crystal! I transported them here with me." replied Professor Elm. "Oh. Phew... Thanks Professor.... That really worried me..." confessed Crystal. "Well, I have to go. I'm almost to the next town. Professor, is there a gym in Cherrygrove City?" "Nope, sorry." answered Professor Elm, sighing. "All right then. See ya!" spoke Crystal. "Bye." Prof. Elm said. Crystal then hung up her Pokegear, putting it back into her backpack. She looked to the Houndoom, smiling. She took their balls out, all of them disappearing with a flash of red. Crystal looked to Leafy and Toto, grinning. "Let's go, Girls ..." After this being said, they all walked down the path to Cherrygrove City.
