~*~And now, our feature presentation!! ^_^ ~*~
Part 1 ~ If it Looks You In the Eyes…
The wind blew swiftly through a window in the Enjyu Gym, sending a cold chill up my back. Dress warmly, Matsuba had said, it's probably going to be cold where we're going. And it isn't cold now, Mat-chan? It's absolutely freezing out there this time of year… no snow yet, just chilly mid-October air. Even with my dark blue hooded sweatshirt and layered khaki pants, I was still shivering. And Matsuba still hadn't told me where he was taking me!!
"Matsuba-chan!" I yelled impatiently, tapping on his door. "Are you almost ready? I want to know where we're going!"
"You'll see!" he replied. I sighed, and dropped to a sit on the ground next to him.
"Come on, I've been ready for almost five minutes!"
"I'm coming!" he said, opening the door. He was definitely dressed for the cold; overtop of his normal blue and yellow sweatshirt, he wore a thick black vest. A pair of thick black boots was visible under his navy pant legs. I stared for a few seconds, blushing… but he turned and started walking down the stairs. I got up and followed him, clinging to his shoulder.
"Matsuba!" I whined. "Where are we going?"
"I said, you'll see," he replied smartly, smiling at me. I scowled, stomping out the door after him.
"As long as it's not the bar or the evil dance hall, I'm in," I said. Matsuba looked back at me, smiling with narrowed eyes.
"It's more fun that that… trust me," he said.
My eyes went wide. Matsuba's idea of fun… I didn't want to ask.

In less than ten minutes we arrived… at the Burnt Tower. I glared at Matsuba in amazement… "This is fun?" I asked. "There's nothing here but your silly ghosts!"
"Not exactly," he replied, taking my hand and leading me inside. It was nearly midnight, and it was pitch black in there. I couldn't see an inch in front of my face…
"Well, what else is there?" I asked. "Besides you, me and all this darkness…"
"I'll let you know what's up in a second," he said. "I just have to find someone…"
"Oh, someone else is here?" I asked stupidly. Matsuba didn't even reply…
"Minaki!" he called, taking a flashlight from the small bag he was carrying and shining it around. "Are you here?"
Minaki… I know I've heard that name somewhere before…
"Matsuba!" said a voice suddenly. "I'm here; just stop shining that thing in my face!"
"Ah, sorry," Matsuba said, and he put down the flashlight before I could even see who Minaki was. Suddenly, a flame flickered out of nowhere, making me jump. Minaki, a strange man with brown hair and a purple outfit, had just lit a small lantern.
"There, now I can see you," he announced. "Who's this, Mat?"
Wow, I thought. He calls him Mat… they must be really close friends. Matsuba doesn't let anyone call him Mat.
"This is Yuui," he said. "She works at my gym. I brought her along because I happen to know she likes Suikun just as much as you do, Minaki…"
My heart stopped for a split second. "…Suikun? It's HERE?!?" I exclaimed, jumping to Matsuba's side. "What's going on?"
"People have been seeing Suikun, Entei and Raikou here recently," Matsuba said.
"At least," Minaki interrupted, "they claim to. We're here to look around, and see if they're telling the truth."
"But… That's impossible!" I said. "The three legendary dogs of power haven't returned to Enjyu since Houou left the city! There's no way they would just come back!"
"That's what I said," Minaki agreed, staring intently at me. "That's why we're here to look around."
"Yeah…" I sighed, staring back at him. "So… Mat said you like Suikun."
"I do," Minaki said, going all dreamy-eyed. "It's my favorite Pokemon… It'd be a great honor to see it, and an even bigger privilege to capture and train it…"
"I know," I sighed, drifting away from reality. "It's so pretty and mystical…"
"Guys!" Matsuba yelled suddenly. I jumped, and fell over, landing on top of Minaki and pushing both of us down. "Come on! I heard something from the basement!"
He took off, holding his flashlight in front of him. I instantly shot up, releasing Minaki and running after my gym leader. Or was it… away from Minaki? The way his cheeks had blushed when I had fallen on him like that… I hardly knew Minaki, and I didn't want to think that some stranger may possibly… like me in that way.
Besides… I was already in love with someone else.
@--}----
"Wait up, Matsuba!" I called as I followed him down a set of worn-out stairs. A couple of random Gousu floated around us, and I could hear Minaki's footsteps behind me.
"Sssh," he breathed, turning around. "If Suikun is down here, you'll scare it away with yelling like that."
"Sorry," I said as Minaki came up behind us.
"Don't worry," Matsuba said, smiling. "Come on… This way."
He made his way into the next room, Minaki and I both tailing him like a hungry Pokemon to its food. We were in the main chamber of the basement; a metal plaque of the Rainbow Bird Houou was hanging from the wall in the back.
"There's nothing…" Minaki began, but his words were cut off with a low shifting sound. It sounded like a huge Pokemon rolling over in its sleep… and it was coming from behind the wall with the Houou plaque. I swallowed hard, and attached myself to Matsuba's shoulder.
"Mat… There's not another room behind there, is there?" I asked in a low voice.
"There probably is… There are a lot of caved-in rooms in this tower that I haven't visited," he replied.
"I wonder how you get in," Minaki wondered, running his hand along the wall. "There are no doors… so how do you get into a room with no door?"
"There might be a way," Matsuba announced, walking slowly toward a door to our right. "Follow me."
The black door was stuck shut; with a small push, Matsuba forced it open, and allowed us to enter. Inside, everything was black, even with the light of the lantern and flashlight shining upon it. Charred beams of wood were scattered everywhere… it was like some kind of poorly-built maze. I clung to Matsuba's arm in fear, staring around the room.
"This is a highly dangerous area," Matsuba said, and I felt his hand wrap around mine. "I've never explored here before… I think the entrance to that other chamber may be somewhere in here."
"Great," I commented. "And how do we get through if it's highly dangerous?"
"Carefully," Minaki sighed, stepping forward. He stepped over a few of the fallen support beams, looking around for any sign of a doorway. Suddenly, he snapped to attention. "There!" he said, pointing. "I see something over there!"
"That's it!" Matsuba said. "Keep going, Minaki!"
Then… He turned to me. His alternate-colored eyes stared me down. "Are you ready?" he asked. His voice almost sounded concerned.
"Yes," I answered simply. What more was there to say? Arm-in-arm with Matsuba, I stepped over the remains of the ancient tower, following Minaki toward the doorway.
The new room would have been completely dark, had it not been for Minaki's dim lantern. I gasped as I entered; I could hardly believe what my eyes were telling me. They were all there… Raikou, the beast of lightning, rested against the wall opposite the door; Entei, beast of fire, lay asleep just inches from the doorway, and Suikun, the legendary beast of water, was lying contently in the middle of the room. My hand flew over my mouth to prevent myself from crying out.
"Wow," I heard Minaki whisper.
"So they were right," Matsuba confirmed. "Amazing…"
"Well," I started, swallowing hard. "We've found them… so now what do we do?"
"Leave, I suppose," my gym leader replied. "There's no need to disturb them."
"I should have at least brought a camera," Minaki whined. He turned and started to leave, Matsuba following, but I stood perfectly still. Matsuba spun around, taking me by the hand.
"What is it?" he asked. I said nothing… simply pointed forward.
Suikun's eyes were opened.
"Oh, no," he sighed, his own eyes widening. "Minaki… Get out of here, quick! Come on, Yuui!"
I wanted to… believe me, Matsuba, the last thing I wanted was to get plowed down by one of these Pokemon. But my feet felt paralyzed… I couldn't move as I watched Suikun stand up and alert its brothers. Entei and Raikou took one look at us upon awakening, and that was all it took. They both bolted; Raikou darted past us out the doorway we had come, and Entei crashed right through the wall. The lovely plaque of Houou dropped to the ground, shattering, and I shivered as Suikun stood up, still glaring in my direction.
"Ma…Mat…Matsuba… what do… I do?" I stammered nervously. The Pokemon was stepping closer and closer to me… I could feel the air around me becoming colder.
"Stay still, Yuui," Matsuba advised. "Whatever you do… Don't show fear."
"K…Kay," I said slowly. I stood my ground, watching as Suikun stopped right in front of me. It glared at me, its eyes narrowing as it looked into mine. It was almost as if it was trying to see past my eyes, and into my mind…
It stepped away, still gazing at me through the corner of its eye. Then, with a flash of blue light, it was gone. I stared blankly at the wall in front of me, then back at Matsuba; he was just watching me, a look of pure amazement painted on his face.
"That… was scary," I breathed.
