CHAPTER 04

Mount Moon loomed over Satoshi and company. Once again the sun was setting, anouncing the coming of the moon and her twilight. The grass and bushes had ended a while back, now there was only ancient stone under their feet, all in the shape of a path leading upwards. Pikachu didn't seem to mind, but Satoshi was a different matter all together. * weeze * Je, jezus, this is pretty hard. * gasp * I'll take a break. May, maybe I'll read that leaflet now." Satoshi found a big rock he could sit on, and gratefully took the uppertunity and rested his aching legs. - Mount Moon. Nature's pathway to the stars! Mother Nature has provided us with- "Bladeebladeebla." Also a point of great historical value, as several fossils and rare minerals have been found here- "Bladeebla." Popular rumors include the legends of Clefairy landing here from the moon. Pretty pictures. Unforntuantely, due to it's rich content, it has been known to be the target of assorted crimes. Oh boy. The possibility of rare and priceless fossils has attracted attention from even the crime syndicate Team Rocket! Huh? Team Rocket? What kinda'va stupid name for a syndicate is THAT!? Ahh screw it, I'm rested now, I'll be getting on. "Come on Pikachu." "Pi." Strange really, I can get Spinarak and Charmander to get in their balls(even IF Charmander is kind of a stubborn ass), but not Pikachu. Guess he's more comfortable walking....wonder what it's like inside of one of these things....so it's almost night already huh? Stars out and all... just as Satoshi contemplated the inside of a pokeball and the night-sky, he heard a relaxed voice and a grunt one from not too far.

"Aah, sure is pretty." * click click * * inhale * * fuu *"You like nature? Stupid hippy fag. What's with that pussy purple- slash! -GURGH!" * mumble mumble * * snicker * "As a lesson for the next life, don't get on the wrong side of dangerous people. Come along now, my sweet." As Satoshi listened very, very closely and very, very still, cold sweat started dripping down his face. Just what the fuck have I gotten myself into?! FUCK THIS I'M GOING BACK RIGHT NOW!! No such luck, he could already faintly feel several prences in the way of his way back. AAAAAH WHY ME~!? After a bit of hurried orientating, he just decided to go ahead into the mountains, he figured it promised the most chance of survival. I should take out all my pokemon, for safety. * dew * * dew * Now keep VERY, VERY quiet! Spinarak and Charmander understood, or rather felt his thoughts, and obeyed quite nicely, even more so because they felt a sense of danger through Satoshi. Ahead loomed the mouth of a cave, it's stalagmite teeth making it look like a mouth hewed out of rock waiting to eat him and swallow him in darkness. Better then nothing. I just hope this won't give any problems.

"Ah, there you are sir-" "Please Luther, call me James instead." "Yes, James, where is the gentleman who went out along with you?" "He made the mistake of not respecting his elders." "Ah..." "So, made any grand discoveries yet? Any fossils, moon stones, anything?" "Not yet, but the pokemon are working hard. Hey!" The scientist's angry face stared at a Machoke, a large, heavily muscled humanoid pokemon. Blue colored and three fin like pieces of bone jutted from a slightly reptilian face. Like many of it's kind, it was working hard to dig out any fossils or minerals, this one was taking a short break. "Don't stop until I say it's okay! Now work!" It got back to digging. "....does that ugly thing intimidate you?" "No! Nonono not at all! Now get on with-" "I remember- James interrupted him -I remember an incident from a while back, where you kicked one of your "work-forces" to death because it hesitated. When we finally got to you and started restraining you, there wasn't much more then a bloody whipe across the floor. If my memory serves me right, it was a small Elekid." "...are you trying to emply something? James?" "Oh, not at all, absolutely nothing." But his cold eyes and moking grin revealed he thought very little of the scientist as a man. Not that James had any sympathy for any living being, let alone pokemon. "I'll be going back to patrol the surroundings. Be back soon." Luther's face looked ripe to burst, blood rushed to his face and veines popped up. "Work harder!! All of you freaks!!" And he started kicking the closest Machoke in the back of the head. While the aggresive scientist was busy venting his rage on the Machoke, Satoshi was busy getting through the cave.

Even with Charmander helping to light the place up, it's pretty dark here. Stagmites and stalactites, great spikes of stone jutting from the ceiling and the floor, decorated the dark rock tunnel. The only way to walk he had was by following the faint trails of human thought. Ah man, how did I get myself into this, and why don't they make sure people can't get in?! Satoshi would stumble around for a while longer, before he would find himself in another situation, as he was too occupied to notice the footsteps sounding ahead of him.

Good god this is dull. I should find something to do...maybe I could bully Luther a bit more, he's wimpy enough. Or maybe Jessy could entertain me, o~r I could try and see if I can find some fossils for myself, or maybe a pretty moon stone, or I might- James thoughts were interrupted by footsteps that were too light to be that of any of the men, and Jessy's sounded different. My word, what could this be? Surely not an intruder, we kept our eyes open for those.....my entertainment has arrived! Yippee~! James started half-skipping, half walking in a fast pace towards the source of the sound. And to the surprise of both James and Satoshi, they faced each other.

"Aah! The charming young man I met in Pewter City~!" "GROAAH! The weird foreigner from Pewter!" "How crue~l, is that how you greet me? I notice your collection of pokemon has expanded, and the spider looks like he's grown a bit. ...so~, what brings you here?" Pikachu's fur was standing slightly on edge, showing an obvious dislike. "Forget that, why are YOU here? There are murderers around here!!" "Yeah yeah, I know." "....."What is this guy? All I get from this guy is a feeling of amusement, he's not lying either, he's taking me serious enough... "And I think you didn't know anything when you came in here, right?" "N-no..." "So! Want me to get you out?" "Would I!" The offer erased any momentary feelings of doubt he had a second earlier. Yes! This guy will get me out! "Well then, let's go!"

"This way uhm, what's your name anyway?" "Ah, sorry! I'm Satoshi." "Satoshi then, I'm James, pleased to make your acquaintance! Pretty soon we'll come to a crater left by a meteorite, if you got any luck, you'll see something nice." .....thank god I don't feel anything perverted from this guy. And sure enough, before long a faint star- and moonlight shined in from a cave opening, into the great crater James mentioned earlier, it was very wide, the size of a plain, but quite level. "Waah..." Satoshi looked up, and was greeted by the sight of many stars floating in the nocturnal sky, like diamonds on a velvet mantle, and amidst their midst the moon shone out like a big ripe pearl. "That sure is pretty yeah..." "You moron, look over there. There!" "Hn?...ah!" The light from the moon and stars were plenty to see the event that played some 20 feet ahead of Satoshi's eyes. Tiny spots of glowing light were moving rythmaticly around a large spike of silver rock. The light reflected off the great stone was a deep, silvery metal colour, bathing it's surrounding in a beautiful hue of grey. Inside the tiny moving lights themselves, tiny winged bodies were moving gracefully, and serenely. "Pretty...." "Those are called Clefairy, and the big rock is a huge moon stone. They dance around that thing every night." "You mean those are pokemon?" "Sure, what else?" "Yeah, I guess so." "Well, come on. I'll show you the exit now." "Oh, okay." A little dissapointed, but still grateful, he followed James into a new cave, which in turn lead to to the cave's exit. I've been thinking about this for a little while now, but why havn't we encountered anyone yet? "Well, this is where we part. The exit is at the end of this tunnel, and I've got business elsewhere. Ciao!" And he ran of in the opposite direction. Strange guy. "Come on guys." "Pi." "Shaa!" "..." Pokemon each have their own caracters don't they? I mean, Pikachu's kind of stubborn, Spinarak is really gung-ho, and Charmander is quiet when he's out, but when he fought with that Graveler he went completly nuts! It's kind of like people how they can be....shame they can't talk though, it would make things easi- A stream of blind aggresion flowed into Satoshi's mind befor he could finish his monologue. Where's this hate coming from? Satoshi couldn't feel intimidated, for with the viciousness there was also the taste of cowardice. It's coming from this way... Satoshi started backtracking, not so much as looking at the road in front of him, but feeling the way in a way he couldn't quite explain. It was like touching, or tasting, or looking, like an extra sense. His pokemon followed without questions, if somewhat confused. After some going a different way, he started hearing an angry voice. "Come one, work harder! Faster!" It was a thin, weak looking, bespecled man with a scarlet face. -James, you arrogant, filthy fucking asshole bastard, I'll get you someday I'll get you I'll get you get you murder you murder murder- This guy's screwed up in the head! "Swimming in his mantra, he picked up a pick-axe, and slowly edged towards a sweating, tired Machoke. He raised his arm, and-"HEY YOU BASTARD STOP THAT!!" For an instant the man looked terrified, alarmed, but when he saw what he was dealing with, he relaxed. "Just a kid… what are you going to do if I don't?" "I'll beat the fucking shit out of you." Satoshi's face was twisted by a cold rage, he dispised this sort of man, he knew this kind of person well, down at the laboratory he grw up in, there were other people like this. "Fine, come one then, crush them Geodude! Squirtle!!" Along with the Geodude, a rather timide, scared looking Squirtle was in front of them. That blue turtle's scared... "Charmander, Spinarak, take care of the Geodude! Pikachu, give the Squirtle a few electric priks!" That should scare him enough to keep him away. "Squirtle, Geodude! Don't you two DARE lose!" Pikachu charge himself up, tiny sparks grew into bigger ones, a low buzzing could be heard, and after about four seconds a small crackle came along with a small blast of electricity, hitting the Squirtle square in the chest. As a response to the pain, he sought safety in the recluse of his shell. Meanwhile, the single Geodude was losing badly to the pair of Spinarak and Charmander. The scientist looked panicky, not quite understanding why he was losing. He knew what a Charmander could do to him, so he might as well leave his Geodude alone, but as for his Squirtle, why was he losing so badly? It pissed him off, just a tiny sting of electricity and he was already in hiding, easily terrified piece of crap…pissed him off. And he started kicking the shell with all his might. "Goddamn weakling fucking turtle!!" Satoshi didn't fully understand what was wrong with the man in front of him, kicking the life out of his own pokemon, but he did know he had to stop that man, whatever that would cost. "Pikachu stop that man!" He was already ahead of him, and this time he called out his electricity without restraining himself, in fact, he really cut loose. For an instant Pikachu and the scientist were linked by a stream of thunder, and the stench of burning meat drifted of the dying man. "That's enough! STOP IT!!" Pikachu abruptly stopped, but too late. The cruel man was dead, and the last of his remaining memories were flying away. And other then having cowardly parents failing to protect or properly raise their son, he found no excuse for the man's behavior, only evindences of the man's vileness. Satoshi noted that several Machoke's have been standing there the whole time, and none of them had come forward to help the man. Satoshi spitted on the man's head, and turned around. "Let's go guys." But just as he was about to walk away, something stirred him, something ancient touched his memories, something from before the time humans walked the earth. "What's that…?" Slowly cold sweat was starting to appear on his forehead, he was intimidated by whatever it was. He slowly turned back, and after some time of peering into the stone walls, his eyes slowly fixed upon the source of those primeordeal minds. Layed down neatly on top of a small table, were two strangely shaped slabs of stone. Examening the pair of rocks closely, he noticed these were fossils. That's incredible......so incredibly old, but still so...what do I do with these? ...I'll just keep them myself, I'm sure the badguys don't need them. Strange nodoby's coming yet...never look a given horse in the mouth. Satoshi was about to go away again, when he turned around again. The Geodude had run off somewhere into the darkness of the cave tunnel, but the Squirtle was looking around, frightened, and alone. Satoshi felt a mixture of sympathy, and guilt. Needless to say, his heart was melting at the sight of the little thing. He got down on one knee, and looked at the Squirtle, standing ahead, with scared eyes. Satoshi smiled, and tried to make his kindness felt to the small turtle. Would you like to go with me? I can promise you I'll be a lot nicer then the people who will find you are. I'm not so bad. So how about it? Still unsure, but a bit more at ease, Squirtle slowly shuffeled forward. Satoshi slowly rolled a pokeball forward, and Squirtle gently, timidly tapped it with it's head. * dew * I'll keep you safe, don't worry. This makes four pokemon. "Now we're really going, let's hurry."

And after some hasty running, the group finally got to a path leading outside the mountain. The view was magnificent. One could see Cerulean City and surrounding grassy plaines and river. Tall grass marked the exit road, and Satoshi ran down it as if he was being chased by the devil's hounds. First thing I'll do is find a hotel, and sleep for a few days. Then I'll see if I can find someone who can tell me about these fossils, and then I think I'll go check out the local gym. It was still night, but Satoshi was wide awake. His arrival in Cerulean City would be followed by the making of friends, meeting up with old ones, and dangers yet unencountered. Please look forward to it!
