CHAPTER 01

A cold, bright light illuminated the sterile hallway as Professor Ookito walked through it, heading towards his office. Rumors were already spreading all over the place, how his unmarried student had a stillborn child, of course, the noises always quieted down when he or any of his students come close. Ookito despised his co-workers for their inhumanity. The professor worked in a research facility studying biology, chemistry, the occult, and less legal matters. The place was funded by the goverment, amongst others. Professor Ookito opened the door to his office, and stepped in, greeted by all his gloomy staff, minus one. "Good morning." The staff weakly greeted him back. Everyone was in a sorry mood over what happened to their coworker and friend. It would take long time before she got back.

There was much talk about new test-subjects having arrived, one being a 4 year old boy, the other a small, electric mouse-like monster. The boy, so said the rumours, was able to synchronize with animals and monsters at abnormaly high rates. He was to be trained further in his abilities, and his emotions. The appointed emotional trainer was the researcher who miscarried not too long ago, and treating the boy as her own seemed to be her way of coping with it. As for the child sized monster, he was brought in for causing something of a maelstrom of electric current close to Rosewood City's center, injuring five and killing two. As far as the species go, it was very strong, and very stuborn. For a year, all would remain quiet, and then, both the boy's and the beast's fates would intertwine.

"I think I'll just sit down here." Satoshi put a thin blanket on the wet grass and unpacked a sandwich. It was early afternoon, and the bright green leaves were filtering the sunlight, making spots dance in the blanket of shadow. Satoshi was sitting down against the tree, while his pet monster was walking around excitedly. He unfolded a map, checking his rout. First he'd head for Viridian City following the dotted road on the map. He finished his meal, and packed up. "Goddamn scientist bastards, forcing all this crap on me." He shot an angry glance at the yellow mouse having fun chasing, and ultimately eating a small insect. I don't mind the money and opportunity to get out for a change but that doesn't mean I want to cross the entire country. What's the point? "OK let's go Pikachu." Nothing. "Come on, let's move it!" A short look of disinterest. "Goddamn it!" An angry look now. "Jezus fine, take your damn time." I don't like what he's thinking when he's pissed off.

"I see, so this is a city." The buildings were interesting enough, sure, but the people weren't all that different from anywhere else. "Now let's see...gym, gym, gym." Satoshi traced his path with his finger on the map, until he saw the small dot entitled Viridian City Gym. "Come on Pikachu move along." Despite his slight dislike for the creature he still got worried, the people themselves weren't all that different but the amount here was a small horde. Good to see it at least knows what's good for him.

* pling * "A~nd....this one!" A push of the button and a small ratling noise later, Satoshi got his soft drink from the vending machine."Hehehe, this aint so bad!"* glug glug glug* But man this is kinda weird. From his lazy eyes, Satoshi surveyed all the buildings ,turned-off neon-signs and stores. Advertisements, noise, cars, all these people going around and about, some high-school girls, talking about god-knows-what, business-men, perverts, students, old people, young people. I've taken enough time. "Excuse me, are you by any chance....Satoshi?" Satoshi turned his head in surprise. In front of him was a young man his own age, he looked mildly familiar, yet he was sure he had never seen him before. "Who are you?" "Ah, excuse me, I havn't introduced myself yet." A short bow. "My name is Shigeru Ookito, professor Ookito's grandson." Now he recognized him."Oooh, now I see it!" Grin."So how do you like being a trainer?" "I don't. What's so great about being a trainer?" "Hnn, I can't really put this well..." I see, you're just feeling awkward about it now that you see I don't really care for it. "But I really think that the bonds you make and the people you meet are really fun." A sheepish grin with his eyes closed, and Satoshi felt that he was sincere about this. ...what is this feeling...? "Training one's pokemon, fighting other trainers, collecting trophee-badges, making new friends, that's what it's all about. I hope you'll have fun. But anyway, here-" he handed him a tuny red laptop "-it's called a poxedex. It holds handy information on most species. Grandpa told me to give it to you when I saw you. And I'll be off now. Excuse me." "Hey wait up, any idea how to get to the gym?" "Ah, the Viridian City Gym? It's temporarily closed." No way~! "Well, I'll be seeing you then. The closest one is in Pewter City. Bye-bye!" Satoshi sat down some more, feeling somewhat mortified. "............well let's take a look at the way to there then." He looked at the yellow mouse. It returned a stare. I guess it could be fun, but the next one had better be open damnit. And with that, an alternative adventure had begun.
