A legend speaks of 5 chosen Pokémon Trainers, whose hearts contain & manipulate unique Pokémon powers. The 5 chosen ones are: Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town, who controls the power of Electric Pokémon, Misty Waterflower of Cerulean City, who controls the power of Water Pokémon, Gary Oak of Pallet Town, who controls the power of Psychic Pokémon, Richie of the Orange Islands, who controls the power of Fire Pokémon, and Casey of the Johto League, who controls the power of Grass Pokémon. Ash received a small case. Inside it was a large badge.
Ash: "Super Spirit Master, Ash Ketchum!" Wow. Thank you, Professor.
Ivy: And here's one for you too, Misty!
Misty received a small case. Inside it was a large badge that read: "Super Spirit Master, Misty Waterflower!"
Misty: Thanks, Professor Ivy.
Ivy: What about you, Casey?
Casey: I'm going back to the Orange Islands with Richie.
Richie blushed.
Ivy: Very well. These are for you two.
Richie & Casey received the same badges.
Gary: Hmph! So, where am I going to stay? In the forest? On the streets? Underground?
Oak: You're welcome to come and stay at the base with us!
Gary: Heh…no thanks!
Oak: Oh, Gary, this is for you.
Gary received the same badge.
Gary: "Super Spirit Master, Gary Oak!" Heh! I like the sound of that!
Gary walked away.
Ash: He always was that stubborn!
Misty giggled.

Several years later, young Elena Ketchum, age 12, Ash & Misty's daughter, set on a quest of her own to become a Pokémon Master, while Ash & Misty stayed behind and looked after the Pokémon Center with 42-year-old Miss Joy.
Elena: Bye, Miss Joy!
Joy: Bye, Elena! Good luck! (Sigh) There she goes.
Ash: Yeah.
Misty: Mm-hmm.
Miss Joy, Ash, & Misty walked back into the Pokémon, with Ash & Misty hand in hand.
