Chapter 0.2: Lots of Things

“Now, for the next step.”

Taking three drops of blood from He of Spirit, He of Mind, and She of Purity, their creator flung them outward. From He of Spirit came forth Beings of Earth, one of Fire, one of Water, and one of Thunder. From He of Mind came forth Beings of Heaven, one of Fire, one of Ice, and one of Lightening. From She of Purity came forth Beings of Power, one of Grass, one of Mind, and one of Light.

“I want all of you to create creatures to live on this Earth.” Their creator smiled upon them, interested in seeing what they would make. “Use whatever you wish, make whatever you want. I will leave you and return to see your progress.” He left them, wishing to give them time to prepare their creations.

Dividing off to different areas of the Earth, each child set about trying their best to do as their “father” had asked. He of Spirit knew what he wished to do and easily set about it. Plucking several feathers from his body, he threw them outward and breathed fire unto them. Thus, they took form and He of Spirit created beings of Fire.

He of Mind also had an easy time with knowing how he wanted his creations. The only problem was finding the material he wanted to do it with. He wished for his children to gleam, such as he, so that they would all know they were his children. Finally, he found a metal that the Earth had made. Using his power of Mind and these metals, he created children of Steel.

She of Purity had a harder time. She wanted beings who would be at home in the air, on the land, or in the sea. Finally, she took some clay from Earth and sculpted it, using the sea's water to keep it moist. Using wisps of clouds, she made her clay creations light enough to soar in the air and added tree bark, which transformed to a rough skin. Using several of her jewels for eyes, she created what would later be called Dragons.

The Fire of Earth, just newly born, traveled the Earth, enjoying running across her surface. When he raced across a muddy field, in his excitement, all the drops of mud he flung off his paws as he ran created those from the Ground.

The Water of Earth, unlike her Fire Brother, preferred the lakes and sea to the dirty ground. The water beneath her feet held, allowing her to dance and spring atop its surface. Her jumps created ripples and when two ripples collided, she found it caused the Water to give birth.

The Thunder of Earth, far more ornery than the other two, preferred to hide and explore the rocky caves and chasms his Earth sister had. He explored every crevasse he could find, eventually climbing along the mountains. His barks echoed off the walls, causing rockslides. The largest fragments of Rocks crashed onto the Earth and took shape, creating his children.

Fire of Heaven roamed the sky, her wings brightly blazing as she soared. There was nothing better, in her mind, than flying. It took much longer for her to realize she could use her love of Flying to make her creations. When she did, she plucked pieces of the sky and threw them up into the clouds. When they emerged, they turned into beings with wings who could soar as high as she.

Lightening of Heaven flew as well, scanning for something that intrigued him. It wasn't until he grew angry at being unable to find anything that he noticed the darkening clouds around him. His rage peaked and he cursed and screamed, lightening sparking off his body as he did so. The sparks danced off him and reacted with the clouds, sending a cascade of lightening bolts down to the Earth. When they struck, they took form. Lightening of Heaven created his children from Electricity in his anger.

Ice of Heaven sought solitude and flew higher than her siblings, to where the air hurt to breathe and ice formed on her wings. She found the stillness soothing and landed on the highest mountain peak, which was covered in snow and ice. There she watched snow fall and created her beings from the ice.

Grass of Power spent its time in the flowering areas of Earth. Gathering pollen, sap, needles, and leaves, it mixed the concoction with the wind. Grass of Power sowed the seeds that the combination had made and grew its children like Grass from the Earth.

Mind of Power had trouble deciding exactly what its children would be. It thought and thought on the problem before reaching the conclusion that it didn't matter what its children looked like, providing they were intelligent. Focusing, it made its children from its own sheer mind power. Later, they were dubbed Psychics, seeing as they too possessed great mind abilities.

And what of Light of Power? Well… she had the greatest difficulty of all.

Jenny Galaxie: Wow, it's nice to have a dedicated fan. As for the connection, some will be subtle and hardly noticeable, others will be larger and obvious. Most won't be spotted until Kathryn's story progresses much further than it has, however. Until then, think of this prologue as more of a story unto itself rather than related to Kathryn's. After all, this one takes place many eons before Kathryn was even born.
