Chapter 3:

Disclaimer: I own nothing but the plot. And the detail. Other than that though, I'm pretty much out.

The next day, Ash awoke with the loud phone call, signaling it was time for breakfast with Giovanni. He met Giovanni in the lobby, who was this time wearing a scarlet smoking jacket and a crimson cape, and smoking a new cigarette. They went downtown to have breakfast, and while they did, Giovanni began talking again. After breakfast, they shared a walk until the meeting, and Ash felt strange. He had always considered Giovanni to be his arch-nemesis, his sworn enemy, but the more time he spent with him, the more he liked him.

“Well Ash, did I ever tell you about the history of Mewtwo?” He asked Ash as they sat in the central plaza, waiting for the League Phantom Rolls-Royce to come pick them up.

“No sir, you haven't.” Ash told him, and Giovanni laughed.

“Please, call me Giovanni.” He told him. “But anyway, Mew was first discovered in the early 60s by a Team of Scientists, lead by my mother, who was a scientist in her own right. Mostly however, she was a fool, who was blinded by her own ambition of making money, as oppose to seeing the beauty of her discovery. When she first got a video recording of Mew, her only intent was to sell it.” Ash didn't blink, sticking closely to every word, and absorbing it all with peak interest. “And so, when she died, she had amassed her wealth, but it mostly went to waste. For 51 years, ever since I was first born, I knew there was something beyond her monetary exploitation. She died when I was just fourteen, leaving me to manage my affairs alone for the past thirty-seven years. But I discovered the DNA of the same Mew my mother had earlier discovered, and was soon able to process the perfect warrior.”

“But sir… I mean Giovanni,” Ash began, “why did you continue to man Team Rocket? After all, you seem to be wealthy enough.”

“I don't really run Team Rocket anymore Ash.” He told him smiling. “I leave the power to executives who now how to act criminally. I'm quite bad at it.”

“So you have officials doing the work for you. That still doesn't excuse you being involved with the organization.” Ash argued, noticing that the car had arrived and stepping into it.

“The main issue is the enemies I've amassed. Many people hate Team Rocket and want me dead. If I were to seem weak in there eyes, I would be killed instantly. But let us talk of interesting matters. Today you will meet Lance of the Elite Four, the Dragon Master and League Champion from 1996-1998.”

Suddenly, Ash brightened up. He began talking about Lance and his journey, and spoke for nearly forty-five minutes until they arrived at the stadium in which the parade was about to commence. Ash could see the gargantuan floats, and saw the limousine that he would be riding in. “This is fantastic!” He said eagerly, stepping outside.
Giovanni smiled too, releasing the Persian from his Pokéball. “I hope you don't mind Ash, but Persian is a very old friend and I thought he might like the parade.”

“Not at all. In fact, I brought Pikachu with me, who's also an old friend.” But as he spoke the words, Ash realized that for the past few days he had been neglecting his Pokémon just as he had been neglecting his friends. “After the parade, I'd like to see my mom. And Professor Oak and Gary and Misty and Brock.” He said firmly, but Giovanni didn't disagree. He only nodded and moved towards the limo.

They sat down, and proceeded through the streets once the parade got moving. People began to cheer and wave, and Ash waved to them happily. Giovanni fell asleep once or twice, but Ash didn't mind. He enjoyed being the center of attention.

Once the parade had ended, Giovanni said goodbye, telling Ash that he was leaving for two or three weeks for Celadon, and that he would keep in contact. Ash was sorry to see him go, but at the same time excited to see his old friends. Misty and Brock were the first to emerge from the stands, rushing up to see him.

Ash hugged Misty as she come in a friendly way, and smiled at the two of them. “Hello.” He spoke softly.

“Hi.” Said Misty, and Brock nodded. “We haven't seen much of you since the Title Match.”

“I've been busy with matters of state. Actually, Brock, I have something that might concern you.” He said, and Brock looked up.

“Does it involve a rich young woman who likes people with my personality?” He asked overeagerly.

“No. I'd like to offer you a job as Pharmacist on the Breeder's Council of the Indigo League. You must have heard of it.” Brock was very excited now, even opening his eyes slightly more than usual, though not much.

“Of course I've heard of it! A job working for it would be phenomenal! A dream come true! Where do I submit my resume?” He asked, bobbing up and down, making Ash happy that he could help his friend.

“Just see my escort Alfred and tell him I sent you. He'll send it to the board by today. Now Misty, I have a question for you.” He asked as Brock went off to find Alfred.

“What is it Ash?”

“Well, I want to know about Giovanni. I've been given a seat in the Kanto Council of Gym Leaders, and I'd like to know what he's like.”

“Well he never shows up really. He sends someone else. He's usually busy in Celadon. He sure loves that city. I wonder why though, I've never seen anything related to either Team Rocket there. Why?”

“Because, well, he turned out to be Chairman of the Indigo League. He's the one I've been speaking too.” Misty gasped and put her arms on his shoulders worriedly.

“Are you okay? Has he hurt you at all?” She asked worriedly, but he smiled.

“I'm fine Misty. But you know nothing about him at all?” He asked.

“No. I'm sorry Ash. But are you sure he hasn't hurt you?” She demanded.

“Yes Misty.” He hugged her again, and turned away, but stopped and turned around. “Misty?” He asked.

“Yes?”

“How'd you like to come to Celadon City for a few days?”

So once again, I need your opinions. Comments? Flames? Anything?
