Chapter 5

Kilissa adjusted her seeing lenses, frowning. They were a strange invention, but she enjoyed them very much. They made her see as well as an elf, and she readied her crossbow as she took aim.
They were mages, and did not carry swords, but they were dangerous, and the High Mage Jacques had paid good money to eliminate competition.
She readied her darts, and took aim.

Red glanced up just in time to see something flying at them and panicked. Agatha faded into view behind him, teleporting, as Clair hissed in pain.
Lorelei glared in the direction the darts had come, and concentrated. Kilissa yelped as her legs and arms froze up, before she was an ice statue.
Lorelei and Jynx headed over to find a girl in a frozen block of ice.
Bruno grunted angrily. “I don't like it, here.”
“Too dangerous for you?” Lance asked, flicking his dragon blades into hand.
“If you put it that way, then I have to say yes.”
Red coughed. “Well, if it's that difficult, maybe we can send you back.”
“How?” the Fighting Type trainer asked, excitement flickering to life in his eyes.
Red shrugged, and threw a poke ball forwards. It arced through the air, and in a burst of red light, a pokémon appeared, singing softly as the smell of fresh grass drifted through the air.
Lance stared at him. So did the others.

“When did you capture Serebii?
“That's not important.” Red nodded. “But Bruno, if you truly want to go home, can you take her with you?”
“Of course.” Bruno hugged the psychic-grass pokemon tightly, as Serebii squeaked in surprise.
She was not used to such physical contact.
This trainer was not a bad man though. Perhaps a bit too naïve, but she thought she could stay with him for a little while before she moved one. She looked at Red, who nodded.
Moments later both had faded from view.

Lance watched Red's face for any sign of dissent or resentment, but found none. Red was hardly skilled in deception, so…
“You don't miss going home?”
Red shook his head. “Home is not a place, Lance. It's where you are. As long as you're here with me, I'll be all right.”
Lance smiled, and kissed him. And that was that.

Perhaps this was not the best solution. They were Chosen, and they had fled the Pokemon World. Without the Realm Guardians to balance, it would fall into dust.
Somehow, Lance did not care.
The Pokemon Realm was not worth saving. Humanity's greed and envy had sunk too deep. There was no fail-safe, no way to repair the damage now. Better to purge and rebuild in the next life cycle.
He was not shirking his duty - he was simply not suicidal.
And as long as he had Red, he could keep going.
